who's your buddy ?
Posted by 0-6-0 on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 8:02 PM

Hello I know most of you guys/gals chase your pets out of the train room. But some of us don't. My little friend has been hanging out with me the last few weeks. He has been good just watching me work if I make to much noise he will leave but he comes back when it stops. It nice to have him hanging out most of the time I am alone. So who's your buddy?

Have a nice day Frank

Your photo brought back fond memories of our late bassett hound, Maggie Mae, who would follow me to the garage layout and listen when the whistle blew and the engines chuf.  In time she would become bored and lay on the rug near the kitchen door and wait for me to let her in.  She had had enough choo-choo for the day.

A kindergarten poem that Ive made my motto:

Ill cuddle and purr, Ill groom my soft fur, all for my Favorite Guy.

But I cant help but boast, of the one I love most, Me, Myself, and I.

Though my grandmother's kitten does sometimes require a moment of stomping and crushing on the layout to boost her ego. Big Smile

Here's two of mine. I also have a little girl and we have another five Golden Retrievers kickin around here somewhere. The dogs have actually found itty bitty bits I have dropped into the carpet on more than one occasion. So they do earn their keep sometimes.

Legs, a big ugly wolf spider that lives in one of the mobile homes on my layout. It pays rent by snaring any bugs it comes across.

Meet Jackson...he follows me everywhere but with his short legs he can't get down to the model railroad room in the basement.  But he whines and cries when I'm down there just so I know where he is.Whistling

That Jackson is one fine looking dog!  Red Lodge is a great little town, was there in 2006 with two Harley buds having come over Bear Tooth on our way to a rally in Billings.  Great food in beautiful country.

Thanks for the kind words Gale...both for Jackson and our little town.  Our annual bike rally is very popular and draws a lot of people who love riding through this beautiful country.  The Beartooth Highway is a spectacular drive, closed during the winter but will re-open on Memorial Day.

Jackson is a rescue dog, we've had him for about 10 months and he is a real handful and a lot of fun.

Gracie, my gray cat, is my buddy and she is sleeping on my lap as I type this message on my laptop which is balanced on the arm of a sofa chair.

However, Gracie is no longer allowed in my train room since I found her laying on my plowed farm field. I had to completely re-do the field since she destroyed it by laying on it.

I also discovered that she had taken a liking to biting off pieces of telephone poles that passed through a village on my layout.

But the worst offense was a missing person, a fisherman, who was standing on the banks of a river on my layout.  I found his fishing pole, but I never did find the missing person.  Gracie is now a feline of interest in this missing person case, but I do not have enough evidence to arrest her and bring this case to justice.

When my tuxedo cat, Buster, was young, he used to sit and watch intently on whatever project I was working on. When he got older, he was like most kids, he just lost interest. My older tabby, Precious,  decided not to get along with the other two, she took up residence in the basement, er, train room. When I'm down there, she follows me around the room.

I changed my avatar to show my buddy - hope it worked. This is Abby - a 4 year old miniature Schnauzer. Her favorite spot is upstairs in front of the fire, but when she thinks I have been in the basement long enough, she comes down to get me. And if I don't come up right away, she will start bringing stuff upstairs and leaving it at the top of the stairway.

There's never time to do it right, but always time to do it over.....

A ten year old yellow lab named Shelbye. In addition to being my buddy she is a certified surveyor. She can determine the only available route between me and where I am going and manage to plop down right there.

I just realized I don't have any recent pics of mine.   Here is my Golden Retriever Kasey when she was a few months old.   She is 5 now.

Ya 'all got some really cool 'Buddies'!!!!

This is my Ops Exec!
She seems to trait a bit Siamese, but mostly minature Black Panther, as you never know where a stealthy furry paw may skillfully (& unknowingly to me) remove something woked on & set aside to dry, & then suddenly notice a rapid jovial scamper across the room...
In this shot she is guarding my CEFX Dash9 that completed my pair, I had detail painted it & added a wash to the bearings & other bottom gear.. I waited her out before moving & recovering it...  (Really though, she is pretty good with things, when told NO, she abides! [then claws up something else -elsewhere..])
I enjoy watching her watching trains, I had a 12 foot Back & Forth on a set of display cases in an apt once.  She would pace the engine, & then after a bit, sit & just bobble head with it.. Hilarious!!!

My two buddies aren't allowed anywhere near the train room!!!  When they were young they did come down cellar a couple of times only to be chased right back up stairs by the Yardmaster!  Once they got halfway down the stairs and I looked around at them and pointed upstairs...  They were off like a shot to the kitchen.  Haven't even tried to come since although I keep the door closed at all times.  I will tell you they did behave themselves when I had a couple displays upstairs in the dining room while working with Boy Scouts on trhe Railroading Merit Badge.  I was pleasantly surprised.......

This is Manét:

And this is Blackie:

Littermates from a stray cat that decided to raise a family on my Father's back porch.  They were about 5 months old when my Dad died.  I inherited the two of them.  They are two of the sweetest, most trusting cats I have ever seen.  Anyone who comes to the house will have one or the other sitting on their lap within minutes of their arrival.  BTW, they both weigh in at 20 lbs.  Just little guys.  Here is Manet in my arms back a few years ago:
