Jim- No I doubt that will happen. Shoot the carpet we have now is over 15 years old and she really never pushed to have it changed out until I started talking. See the problem is, if I had just kept up on some things, she would not have so many things that need done to look at all at once. Once something is done, she usually doesn’t revisit it again until it actually does need re doing. Being wood, I doubt if we will ever see it needing redone save maaaaybe a refinish. I will probably be old enough by then that it will be a hire out.
Stories of Mothers and cell phones/remotes got me chuckling. Mom didn’t have too much trouble with the basic cell phone. The voice mail, well that was a bit tricky (snicker). But the cell she had down. Now, talk about remotes. She had Dish Tv or Direct, can’t remember which, but the two remotes for the TV and the Satellite thing, plus the ability of one remote working two things….now that got me a weekly call because the Dish was out and only would show one channel or the thing is broke and won‘t change channels. She would sit on or bump the “input” button or something else, or have the wrong remote. Plus she couldn’t get that just because you’re watching the TV, and you want to change channels, changing channels on the TV won’t work. You need to change the channels on the Dish. “But I’m not watching the Dish” she’d say. I’m watching regular TV”. By that she meant the regular over the air free (local) tv stations we all get.
Well, gotta get a few thongs put up/ straightened up for the big Puttin’ Pampers on a Chef party this afternoon. HEAR THAT RYAN???! If’n you’s HERE…. Ah the things women do to Chefs in the name of fun in this neck of the woods. Anyway, I’ll probably scout for more of the flooring she wants. Gets me out of the house.

Good Morning Gang!
Sunday! I hope a day to relax a little, as the last week was VERY busy and tiring. Still fighting to get the company´s finances straightened out. The situation is pretty bleak, as we have to get three banks into buying our ideas. One of them is moving along with us, but I am not sure about the remaining two. My only hope is that they don´t need more write-offs in their books this year, so they´ll accept our request for re-financing and prolongation. On the business side the future looks promising, but without the necessary funds to finance the growth, this ain´t worth anything.
Coming Tuesday will see the show down at the OK coral with the banks.
YGW - I am saddened by the news about your wife´s health situation. Your family is in Petra´s and my prayers. We have lit a candle in our little church for your wife.
I hope to be a more frequent visitor to the diner soon. It´s those little daily issues that keep me from posting in this forum. Additionally, I have to start to worry about my parents again. We were supposed to see them today, taking them out for lunch, but yesterday my father called in, canceling today´s reunion on the grounds of my mom feeling to week. I haven´t spoken to her for weeks now, as my dad always answers the phone. He appears to be screening her off from the outside world. There is a certain queasy feeling in my stomach...
Chloe, it´s Sunday, so I´ll go for a big breakfast, with all the works, please.
Blessings!
Well it was a busy day for me. I WAS going to weather my well car today but suddenly life started getting in the way. First my father calls and wants me to go check on my mother because he can't get through to her on the phone. So I go check on her. She's fine. Sitting up in bed watching TV. I check out the phones. Nothing. No service. There's ten phones in the house and two more outside making for an even dozen and not a one of them works. So I go back to my place and call my father and tell him she's fine and the phones are all dead. Well then next he wants me to call Suddenlink and set up a service call. That took up the next forty-five minutes which I'll never get back. Got that done. Now I'm going to start on weathering the well car. Phone rings. It's my mother. Somehow she figured out how to dial out on her cell phone. She wants to know if I'm available to take her to town. First to Buffet City for lunch then to Stage then Lowe's then Ivan Smith Furniture. All this in a car I have never once driven. I didn't even know if I could get my five inch wide boot to the gas pedal without hitting the brake in the process. Well it turns out there was a little over an eighth of an inch clearance. I had to be careful that my boot didn't hook under the end of the brake pedal. Before I drive it again I'll have to lope off half an inch of the brake pedal to make the car safe for me to drive. Oh, what kind of car is it? Nothing much, just a Pontiac G6 with a retractable roof and the ability to take off from a dead stop like a Camaro Z28 running on nitro methane. A very sporty little car and very fast! So we go to Buffet City and have lunch. A very big lunch. Then we went over to Stage so she could sort through some clothes that had been picked out for her. That took longer than she expected. Somehow I wasn't surprised. Good thing was she was wiped out by that time and wanted to go home. On the way back we stopped at a furniture store (not Ivan Smith) so she could look at a new couch. Too late! Somebody else had already snatched it. We got back to the house sometime around three. My father was home by then so I talked with him for a time. He was going through his mail. Most of it was junk. To hear his comments about it is like having a comedian in the house! He comes up with some one liners that put Archie Bunker and Fred Sanford to shame. One of those was about his electric bill, which hadn't come yet. All the others had come. Mine, my sisters, my niece, my nephew, but not his. Well, it was probably so big they needed more time to print the extra pages then worship it in hopes of getting a dividend or a revocation of a volume discount. Maybe they were trying to figure a way to bill him for the extra paper. By that time I was a quivering pile of jelly on the floor. I had to get out of there. I bade them goodbye - see y'all later and I was out the door. I had other things to keep me busy at home for a while and I never did get to weather the well car. Oh, my electric bill is the smallest one. A mere $55.See y'all tomorrow.

***Jim, the trees are all gone. Those not sold previously, I let the timber company have after the tornado knocked them over. There was such a glut of trees going to the lumber mills, you couldn't sell them. I'm painting all the stumps and big roots left behind so they can be spotted from the cab of a trackhoe. Hiring the neighbor to do that. There will be hundreds of stumps to be burned, too. The new tractor will be used to prepare the land for seeding. Already have a root rake and a few other implements, so will only need to buy a box blade which aren't much. Looking forward to that work. Not so much fencing it all in though. Looked at used tractors and haven't seen anything cheap, at least that looks OK. Plus, you never know how it was taken care of. Although new isn't cheap, at least I know (at this stage) it will last me the rest of my life.
***Ray, you always look like such a kind soul.
Good Night y'all. Rob
Evening All,
Back from the club. There weren't many members that showed tonight but we did the dinner thing anyway. One of the members ran a Santa Fe named passenger train and it was gorgeous. It was the one before El Capitan that Walther's released.
Tomorrow I think I'm going to do switching at the meat packing facility. I haven't operated there a lot.
Jim- It's actually a J1 2-10-4. It's hard to tell from the angle.
YGW- Your wife and family continue to be in my prayers.
Ray- I need to get a pair of magnifying glasses like yours for close in work.
Barry- Where is that picture from?
Everyone have a good night.

Wow what a birthday for the oldest girl! Today a couple of ladies from our church "borrowed" our two girls for the afternoon and took them shopping. We also had a Sunday school class party this afternoon and the church ladies met us at the party with the girls loaded to the gills with presents and stuff ! Filled up the trunk of our car ! Then our sunday school class filled up a bag with gift cards for the girls and my wife. They put movie cards, grocery cards, prepaid visa, gift cards to a clothes store etc... They really lifted our spirits and loved on my wife and children. Chocked me up,sniff , sniff excuse me for a minute.....ahem okay.
Guys thanks soooo much for the happy birthday wishes and Prayers. I just cant tell you how much we covet your prayers and well wishes. It means a lot. Thanks.
Chloe can I buy a round for all ? Yep load em up tonight its on me !
Good Evening
It actually was a nice quiet day today..managed to get the trainroom a bit more organized and actually managed to run some trains as well
Next week we will get some time together to get our Xmas tree up..we have the external lights up and the wreath on the door but that was as far as we got here with our decorating...
Chloe, I'll have a coffee and some fries with gravy please...no, not the big 20lb bucket, just the regular sized plate...thankyou...I'll be at the corner booth ..
Evenin', Flo - I'll have one of those cinnamon rolls and a Rio Grande mug of coffee, please. Thanks!
Congratulations on your second grandson, Thayne! (almost missed it but hear some echoes of congrats as I was coming in the (front) door. Spoil him rotten (but make sure he knows how to help his folks and follow rules...) I'll pass on the cigar - unless you have one of those bubblegum ones?
I see Garry and some others have been talking about selling MRR stuff. I'm getting ready to put some of my covered hoppers (PS2's, the 2,893 cu.ft. ones), once I get the hang of how to set up ads. Mine will be over on the this site, as I don't have (or intend to have) a PayPal account. I decided on these covered hoppers that the build dates are mostly too close to the end of the 1950's for my RR, so I'll sell off the 2,893's and just use the two-bays (ACF and PS 2003 cu.ft. ones). Of course, I figure whatever I make from selling them will get plowed back into other stuff for the MRR... (Funny how that goes, eh?)
In our area we have only received frost on the car windshields, none of that white stuff that falls from the sky... So far, the frost has been light enough that I start the car, turn the blower to 'HOT' and the fan to about full on (up onto the windshield), then I got out and scrape the driver's window and work my way around the *back* of the car. By the time I get to the front passenger side, it's almost no-scrape, and the windshield only has a couple of inches at the top that need scraping. Rest comes off with the wipers. (Oh, if only it would be that easy allllllllll winter...)
Since I was last in here (I think it was; I've lost track of when I was last in here...), I've signed up for Social (in)Security (retirement) benefits and Medicare. Decided for now to continue with our agency's policy for the B and D parts, since they pay the premiums for all the employees (to keep their total costs down by including all the healthy 20-somethings in with us older folks ). I found that one of my 2 eyedrops that my eye doctor has me on, the least expensive part D puts that eyedrop into their maximum charge tier. I may change over to a seperate add-on coverage next fall when it comes around time to re-do, but I really expect to continue w**king where I am until they (so to speak) 'cut me from the traces'. Besides, I have too much to pay on my student loans - I can't afford to retire! But that benefit that starts in (late) Feb. of 2012 will come in handy (likely will put almost all of it into private retirement plan (to catch up a bit better). Ah, the stuff they don't tell you about getting older...
Sue, too bad that NP steamer wasn't a Berkshire; would've woke up Duke if you had mentioned that!
Rob, where my apartment is (now that it's colder weather and less outdoor noise), I can hear the train horns downtown from the BNSF trains coming through. Sounds kinda nice, even if I don't model the modern era! Hey, best wishes on finding the tractor you need at (or close to) the price you can afford. Are there any places with decent shape used tractors around your area? I think I may have missed it - are you painting the tree trunks because a) it keeps you/others from running over them when it's cloudy/dark, b) it helps kill the trunks off so the tree will rot out quicker, or c) you have a bunch of housepaint around your place and got bored with other stuff... ?
Barry, hope your water gets back on (and clear!) again really soon. That is no fun at all to deal with!
Curt - nice 2-10-2 there (That is what it is, right?). Your layout is coming along nicely, VERY nicely.
YGW, that's great about your Sunday school class doing that for your wife (and I bet she'll enjoy it, too). A belated to your daughter on her 9th (right?). And for your wife and the possible new treatments (and for you and the kids as well).
Dusty, a belated to the Diner, and have a mug/glass of your favorite beverage on me. Have you filled the others in about your layout (or plans for same) yet?
Todd, are you perhaps assuming that once you finish re-doing your floors, your wife won't decide that the first room's floor (the one you did maybe a couple of years ago...) isn't really what/how she wanted it to be, and... back you go again! (But for your sake, I sure hope that does NOT happen)
Jeff, you feeling okay today? That sore side you had a coupla days ago didn't sound at all fun. I like your shot of the enginehouse. Wonder how long the phone repair/replacement techs will be at your folks' home...
Ken, keep your options (whatever other ones you have...) open and your resume ready to send out (just in case, of course). And keep yourself sane in the meantime, no matter what the monkeys are doing around you!
Oh, last weekend, I was still having slowness problems with the iMac (and no particular cause I could find, though an online search found some possible design flaws...), and by sundown Saturday the internal hard drive was gone/didn't show up on the desktop, then it came back, but I couldn't re-format the thing. I have managed to start up using the external drive (the one that has all the backups, but an older oper. system on it). However, when I tried to update the OS, I got told that the partitioning format of the external was not compatible with the new OS version and I would have to re-format that drive to install the new OS version (I don't think so!). So until I can afford to get another external drive, back up the first external to it, then wipe the first external drive and install the newer OS on it. But then the fun stuff will start in February (using some of my 'retirement' benefits), when I can afford to get a new internal drive for the iMac (which appears otherwise to be w**king), open up the iMac and swap out the iternal drive (for a bigger one), which - judging from the directions and video I downloaded, will be a doable, but tedious procedure. (Hmm, maybe when my benefits start, I may look at a nice used - but newer - laptop)
Getting back to MRR'ing, specifically my pine tree project,I need to get some wire pieces (to go in the base of the trunks) and stick the trees on a spare piece of foam. They aren't holding up so well with being just leaned against a box on the w**bench (aka dining room table), and the 'conifer' foliage is falling/getting knocked off when they get bumped (or the table does). That, or I need to find something to spray them with, or a way to keep the foliage on them.
I did start on that nice resin kit (Main St. Heritage's Moffat's Bookstore) this afternoon - opening up the windows (by carefully removing the flash film in them), washing the pieces after that. Yeah, had a minor glitch with the washing - I was using a small tub (placed in the kitchen sink) to wash the pieces, but had neglected to put the stopper in the sink, so after that, I had to fish out some smaller pieces that had washed out of the tub and into the sink disposal. Finally found all the pieces (and carefully re-washed those ones that had been into the disposal), and blotted and set all the pieces out to dry on a double layer of paper towels. Of course, the weather is too cold to take the pieces outside to spraypaint these days...
Well (frozen over in the mornings lately), about time for me to be heading for home (if I don't get sn*wed in here in Denver, anyway). Hope all the Diners get some MRR time this weekend, if you haven't already been doing some of that.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape G.
howmus Jeffrey, your story about your parents phone reminded me of the time when my Mom was in assisted care and she was very upset that I would be at camp for most of the summer... I told her she could call me out there on my cell phone, and left the number for her. She replied, "How would I do that?" I told just call me on the phone! She says. "But I don't have one of them...(and points to my cell phone)" I told her, "Mom, use your phone." She looked at me funny, then picked up her TV controller (She had no clue of what it was and why it was always sitting on her table, so she just always watched the channel it was on...) and said you mean this? I can call your on this? Then proceed to dial my number into it.... Of course the TV now started changing channels... She was beside herself as she didn't like the new channel!!!...........

Janie I'll have the hot Roast Beast Sandwich and a trip to the salad bar along with a nice hot cup of decaf. Thank you Ma'am.
I helped to man the Lakshores Division NMRA Table today for a Modelers Corner. Managed to find time to basically finish another #6 Turnout during the day:
Also spent time (most if the time I think) talking to people about the Division and the NMRA....
YGW, Happy late B-day to your daughter! please know your wife and your whole family remain in my prayers!
Tomorrow I get to spend the day out at RIT again! Through the R&GV RR Museum, I know a lot of the adults and kids in the Tiger Tracks Train club. Several stopped over to the table and were checking out the Fast Tracks turnouts today, and some just came over to chat for a while.
Hope you all have a great night!

Cluster &^%$ Front, I mean Work Front. This shop is messed up, and I still don't know what I am, salesperson or management. We pulled up my KPI report and it did show my sales but showed no commission, so I still might be a Manger In Training. But to be honest I am afraid to ask. My guess they have forgot to do the pay change, at this point I rather have the base.
Tech are still doing half butt inspections, even on my tickets. As a salesperson I have no say authority to make corrections?
High lite of today? Was handed a ticket and told to call the customer (est was done by Kevin) and was priced to do Front Brake Pads and Rotors. Looked at the inspection sheet and front pads and rotors where marked as being OK, no specks, just checked OK? Now the rear brakes need to be replaced, so was it a typo? Asked Kevin (it is his ticket) and he said it need both? Asked the mechanic and he said the front brakes are good, just the back and front struts. Struts where not listed on the on the Est done by Kevin? Well I passed on calling that customer! Besides I would not have been paid unless I redid the est anyway. But then again, I would have never brought up the front brakes anyway.
If this is what has to be done to make money I am at the wrong company. But, it is not how it should be done by Company Standards! Looks like the monkeys are in charge of the ZOO if you ask me! This shop needs a new ZOO keeper!
Well running the trains trying to forget work. Flo, I take another one please!

YGW, Please know that I am with a bunch of fellas and Gals here wishing, hoping and praying for a miracle for your good wife. For now that is a terrible prognosis and our hearts go out to you. If spite of that do wish your Daughter a Happy Birthday as I am sure that is what her Mom wants for her as well. All of you keep your hopes high.
BARRY, I just love the looks of those Feedwater Heaters. It is similar to those GP-30s, they just look like they really mean business.
Hope you are all having a great week-end and remember there are only 14 more sleeps, till that Jolly Fat Man makes his annual trip. The CP Christmas train rolled through here a few days ago, and we had a wonderful night for it too, very mild, thus a good turn out. Should be somewhere west of Calgary by now.
I have to go in for a late shift tonight so I had better get shaved and showered.

Eh? Sponsor? No. But I am a member of the zoo.
One winter afternoon I was out taking pictures of the lions and tigers and bears, and then stopped to shoot the breeze in the gift shop, only to find that I got locked in! There were no cars in the parking lot, and so the zookeeper assumed that all of the visitors were gone, but my ride was circling around trying to figure a way to get in. YGW (YouGottaWanta) ... Happy Birthday to your 9-year-old daughter! ..... Also, prayers continue for your wife with brain cancer. Words probably can not adequately describe the emotions. Sounds like she has some very good friends, and it's good to hear about all of the gifts to her. Remember, your friends in Elliots Diner are always here for you. Please keep us informed, and please communicate as you need your friends. We care
Thank you so much for your kind words and prayers. The doc informed us on the last visit that the cancer is now growing in two spots and are not operable. That was some very tough news to take. We are not yet with out hope though. NIH has a couple of new study programs that may provide the miracle we need. It is pretty hard to deal with when I have a 9 and a 7 year old. We want so desperately for my wife to make into their teen years.
Gotta go. Get ready for a birthday party.

***Todd, J.D. makes good tractors (IMO). But after their %#*@! service #%^@*! up repairs 3 of the 4 times I took mine in for work to be done, they kinda turned me off. Next up is New Holland, a reasonable distance from home. I'm in no big hurry as long as my little J.D. hangs in there. The itch to replace it has definitely set in and I will need it once the stumps are removed to ready the new pasture land for seeding. If not before years end, probably sometime in January I'll have the new (medium size) beast. That work will keep me busy awhile, which will be a good thing.
Hey, how important a factor is Engine Displacement in a tractor?
***Curt, the only thing I would change about that feed lot is to replace the cattle with people and move it next to a Soylent Green Plant. Seriously though, that is well done (just the way I like my burgers).
Anyone know if those Mantua 2-6-6-2 logger locos with the DCC/sound installed is loco-specific sound or just a basic sound decoder like many others? One day I would like to have one of those to pull the logging buggies on the HO layout. It would replace the CSX diesel hooked up to those cars now. Could keep the CSX loco just for pulling the "cleaning train" around the tracks.
Curt Webb Jeff- Glad you are feeling better. Did that side building come with your engine house? I have the same building but it didn't come with the other one.

Speaking of pains, I'm trying to get a repair team from Suddenlink to come out and work on my parents phone service. It went out yesterday and a tech came out to work on it after dark last night. The phones were working when he left but they were down again this morning. I called Suddenlink and let them know what was going on. The guy I was talking with called their number and said he got a busy signal. I told him that sounded right. We had the same problem when they had AT&T service. It's likely due to a fault in the house lines. Some of them are over forty years old. He made some kind of noise that sounded like ouch. Imagine tracking a fault in a home phone system. Most of the lines for the new part of the house are buried in the walls but many of those for the old part run along the outside walls and eaves like spider webs and getting to them can be very interesting, not to mention dangerous. A couple of them run right over the roof under the siding where the two halves of the house meet. AT&T made noises about fixing the problem but all they did was fix at it. The old lines are corroded and have to be replaced. It's gone past the point of stringing jumpers around the effected areas. Copper lines only last so long especially where they're exposed to the weather. From what I understand the techs coming out are supposed to replace the lines. If that's the case they better bring along something to eat because they've got their work cut out for them. The place is only like five thousand square feet. I put some emphasis on the urgency of getting it done. There's an elderly woman there with medical issues and she needs phone service. All she has is a cell phone that she only partially understands how to use.
Good Morning!! Coffee and….. What’s that smell? Chinese food? Oh, cigars. Congrats on the best kids to have Thayne…Grandkids. Rob- The Kubota is a great tractor, but very expensive. I’m not familiar with the mini-haha one. Case also makes a good trator, but like you said, the distance. We have to travel to Atlanta or Auburn for the closest Case dealer. JD has probably the best set up for service going around here so sometimes the price includes things later on. But It’s what you can afford and what your needs are. Just a thought for you to ponder. Ken- Sounds like you and me have another thing in common. Probably has to do with the military. If that’s the way the book says, that’s the way it should be done if possible. Guess the trip to Spfld is off? Well, Floor Wars Williamsville Edition has officially expanded to include the living room. Approx 400 square feet of living space that will now be combined with a change in flooring type for the dining room to match. An additional 200 sq ft. Will it end. Yes, it has to when we run out of floors.

Dusty good to se you again. Pardon Garry’s memory, he’s a bit older than he lets on.
I kinda like the lions and tiger laying around. Not as soft as a little cat, kinda scratchy actually. More like hog hair, just more of it. But, all in all pretty friendly. And there’s something about an animal napping that is rather…peaceful. Of course with something that big that is pure muscle and teeth, would you think I’d say anything else?
Morning All,
Only plans today is to go to the club later. Temp will be in the 70's today. I really feel for the Diners in colder climates. I think MOH is going to make cookies today.I will bring some to the Diner later if thats OK with everyone.
MOH was very happy with the pond since it was her idea. I ordered some Preiser water fowl yesterday to place by my 2 water features.
I received my work schedule for Jan-May. I'm not real happy and think my boss is paying me back for my testimony in the arbitration, but of course I can't prove that. MOH says that I knew it was coming and I did. I guess that is what happens when you tell the truth. Oh well, I'm a big boy and will survive.
YGW- Happy Birthday to your daughter.
Everybody take care.
Lions and Tigers and...????
New additions to the Dakota Zoo in Bismarck. (Click here for news story)There mamas were executed by the State of Montana for inappropriate interactions with the local primates.
The LION will keep his eye on these kiddies for a while.
Edit: Looks like the LION has the top of the page!
LION FOOD FOR ALL!
We care.
Barry ... Sounds like an adventure with your water department. ... If you can't be with the train layout, you can play in the water park in front of your house.
Rob ... Tractor shopping, eh. Hope you find a good one and can get a good price.
Curt .... I like the layout photos. The ponds in WPF looks great.
Jeff .... Nice layout photos. Hopefully the cramps are gone altogether.
Dusty .... Welcome to the diner. I don't recall you being here before. Please vidit again soon.
Thayne .... I recall cigars were a big tradition. I'm glad your new grandson is a "keeper".
Bill T ... It's always good to see the Tipton Depot photo here.
Sue ... Please don't take Jarrell's remarks personally. His thread (Show Me) is a fun one. Perhaps, some day you can put pictures of yours and Larrys layout. You have some great stuff on that layout. So it's an NP 4-6-0. It would be nice to see it in person.
Where are Galaxy and Ulrich this morning? Where's JimCG?
Also, there seem to be some MIA's again. ... Maybe, Ken is right about the stuff from lions bothering people. .... Ooops.... Oh, ... Hi, Lion. .. ... I did not see you. Well, good to see you ...... Oh, never mind.
Happy Model Railroading!
