Afternoon guys Smile

Well its a somewhat dreary day today, snow and rain with more rain tonight. I was out today and got something that I have wanted for a while, a Jigsaw. It was on for half price so I scooped it up for that price. Im also looking at a new circular saw but havent made up my mind on which one to get. I really want a milwaukee one but they are kind of expensive, even though milwaukee does make some good tools ( I have a milwaukee sawzall and I love it ) there is always a new tool I want just not the money for them, lol Stick out tongue I cant believe another year is at the end, it feels like Christmas was weeks ago already.

Coffee refill, please.

Will try to post a couple pics again of during and after tree removal. Wouldn't let me earlier. Those fellas sure did a lot more clean up than just that tree I hired them for. Saved me some work.

That pile is a whole lot bigger than it looks in this photo.

Had to make another square bale run, as the round bales won't be delivered until tomorrow, same day as the tractor. Could be interesting if they show up at the same time.

Afternoon folks!

Just stopping in for a cup of hot chocolate to tide me over to supper time.

Rob, glad the tree is down!  Looks like you will be able to salvage the shed as well.  What a wonderful present for them to help you with some other clean-up while they were there.  Sounds like a good company!  Enjoy the new tractor...  I know you will. WinkBig Smile

I just finished up making the years supply of fire starters....  Made a quick run to the Credit Union to deposit some MLK donation checks and cash one for myself THAT came in today.  Now I'm off to start making the Beef BBQ for tomorrow night.  Oh, I did get to spend a few minutes in the train room, and while I was out I stopped at the Value Center (Do IT Best) on my way home.  They actually had Pliobond in stock!  YES!  Just ran out of it a couple days ago.  Now i can get back to hand laying ties.......

Later!

ChadLRyan

Jeffrey,  hope you feel better

I'm somewhat better. Went to my parents place to take their mail to them. My mother was unhappy with the way the new couch is sitting. Not anything that requires a move, just raise on end. Here's the problem. The room was at one time a two car garage. Drainage was handled by sloping the floor to the front left corner. In 1972 my father and I poured a new concrete footing under the front of the foundation then closed the garage in and built it into a private library. It's my mothers favorite room in the entire house. Sixteen rooms and she likes that one best. OK. The floor tilt thing is fine for a garage, not for a room as it makes the furniture slightly higher at one end. Under each leg of the couch is a three inch high concrete block with a brick on top. The bricks were laid flat. There are seven such block/brick stacks as this is a sectional. L-shaped couch for those who aren't familiar with what a sectional is. I had to squeeze into a fifteen inch space at the low end (a real trick for someone who weighs 245 pounds) on my left side, plant my left elbow against the floor and lift that darned heavy beast with my left hand until I had my arm vertical. Using my right hand I turned the front brick onto it's side. Now came the fun part. Getting to the brick at the back! I tried to reach around my left arm but that wasn't working. I had to push my right arm in between my face and my left arm to reach the back brick. I had my fingertips just an inch away and couldn't go any farther. OK. Now I had to pull my right arm back then try to crawl a little further into that narrow gap. That was putting a bind on my left shoulder so I pushed my left elbow ahead a little farther. This caused the couch to start going the other way as my arm is now at an angle. So now I had get my right arm against the bottom of the big red monster (couch) and push it up so I could move my left hand and get my arm vertical again. It was at this moment that a garden spider decided I bore investigation and proceeded to crawl up the side of my face! Well hell! Here I have both arms involved, a spider is crawling up my face and I have no way to get rid of the dang thing. It's now up under my nose tickling my mustache when the need to get rid of the spider took care of itself. I sneezed! The spider was blown somewhere into the middle of next week and the end of the couch jumped up two inches and came crashing back down onto my left hand. Great! Now my wrist hurts! Being I can only feel a little heat, some pressure and bone pain in both my hands I knew something was going on bone-wise. Now I tried the between the face and arm reach again and was able to grab the brick and turn it on it's side. OK. That was done! Now I had to extricate myself from the tight space. Did I ever mention I'm claustrophobic? I got out of there and sitting up I checked out the damage to my wrist. It was just a case of two bones being forced against each other at the extreme edge of the joint and no permanent damage was done. I had just started the involved process of getting back to a standing position when my mother said she wanted the couch centered with the windows. I told her very flatly no. I then left before she could think of something else for me to do.

In other news, my Accurail DT&I covered hopper came in. I picked it up for $10 on Ebay. It's nice when somebody else is paying for that as long as I keep it within reason. The car has three damage points. One stirrup is bent, one stirrup is gone, the ladders and railings at one end are gone. Exactly as it was pictured on Ebay. A photo of it is below:

Evening All,

Not a good day. I spent 4.5 hours soldering and installing signal components and wiring/plugged everything in and......nothing. The power converter and block controller light up but nothing in the signal heads. Also I can see the red light in the IR sensors. I tried trouble shooting for about 3 hours and still nothing. I turned it off and walked away before my frustration caused me to break something. I have been sitting here and I have a couple of ideas to check tomorrow.

I hope everyone else has had a better day.

Did some more work on some junk cars today. I painted them with some nice flat latex colors then touched up the chrome with some satin nickel. After they've had a while to dry I'll start on the job of rusting them up.

 Evening Fellow Dinners!

 Flo, Beer Please.

They Demoted the Dog and made the Fox in charge of the Hen House at work. Bill the acting manager and was the real services manager was demoted to sales person today. Tim, one of the reason I think the shop is screwed is now the acting manager. You folks will remember the only thing I do is complain about Tim. Phone ringing off the hook, where's Tim? Customers stacked up at the counter, where's Tim? Customer calls to see if the car is done, ah Tim where's the ticket? Oh, you did not make one yet the work was done? How's that done Tim?

I really feel bad for Bill, he tried where Tim, well what can I say? He is there some times?

I may go into more details later about work. All I will say now is I am looking for another ship to jump too. This one is sinking fast.

Lee 4.5 MM! I would be truly impressed if you could have pasted that sucker!

Rob Glad the tree is down and shed is safe. You saving the wood to burn?

 See you all later!

Peppermint tea, please.

***Jeffrey, excellent (and fast) work on those cars.

***Ken, what is not in the photo are piles of the heavier sections which I will turn into firewood. Of course I still have no wood stove, but am working towards that.

***Curt, hope you get that wiring figured out.

Wonder which time of year is best to sell off some train stuff, right now or after folks get their tax money back? I want to start a "Hiawatha" fund.

Well I have the cars banged up and rusted up a bit with some 'Rusted Earth' latex paint. Tomorrow I'll add some 'Rusty Rail' latex color to them.

Time for ne to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Evening all!

Sorry it's been a while again, I just can't find time!

I believe last time that I was in was just after the Northeastern University acceptance. Since then, I've also gotten acceptances from Villanova University and the Catholic University of America. So that's four for four on the acceptances, but I won't know anything about the other three (Lehigh, Lafayette, and TCNJ) or financial aid until March or April.

Hockey is going well. We've won a few games recently, and we won two of the three games in our Christmas tournament, finishing in third place. We still have a while to go in the season, so I'm hoping we can get a good number of more wins.

On the train front, it's been a little slow, but not bad, considering how busy I am overall. On Tuesday, I met up with a few friends to do some exploring/railfanning along NS's Lehigh Line. We walked part of NS's Central Running Track, part of the CNJ's main line that is still active, albeit unused between Phillipsburg and West Portal. We saw some neat CNJ and LV equipment in Phillipsburg, and caught an Allentown local headed for Washington Yard. We then went off to lunch at Cracker Barrel in Allentown before I had to head back home for a game.

I've also gotten a little modeling done lately. The "big" project is my scratchbuilt overpass, which is progressing nicely:

I need more materials (retaining walls, I-beams, strip styrene, sheet styrene, and concrete colored paint) before I can do much else, but I'm happy with it so far.
I also went to the LHS today, not for anything in particular, but for anything I could find. I ended up grabbing a P2K Conrail GP38-2 and a NS 2012 calendar. The P2K unit was $75, MSRP $135, so I couldn't pass that up! Most of these units on Ebay are around what I paid, but the CR units (of which there were very few) were closer to the MSRP, so I think I got a pretty good deal. This is my first P2K unit, and I've heard very good things about them. The detail is amazing, and I'll see how it runs when I get home (I'm down the shore for the weekend).

Well, I think I've bored you guys enough with my pointless babble for now, so I'll stop talking. I'll be hanging around for a bit though.

-Joe

Good Morning,

No, Chloe I won't have any breakfast as it is a little late or early depending on how you look at it.

Lee, glad to hear you came through your surgery ok. I bet is a relief to have those stones gone.

Rob, I imagine you will rest a little easier knowing that tree isn't about to demolish your shed. What tractor did you decide on? I don't know much, well nothing really, about them but as it is a piece of mechanized equipment we do want to see pictures of it immediatley after its arrival.

We spent a couple of days with our friends in Thief River Falls this week and had a great time as usual. I picked up my Klein's order that included one of those new BMan FA2s. It really is a nice loco especially considering it cost only $90. The sound is really good too. I now have the 2 turnouts I need to finish the sidings on my N scale door layout. I hope to get the trackwork finished in a week or so and then it will be on to wiring. All the feeders are in, I just have to install the bus and attach the drops to it.

After vowing not to try another I must admit I'm thinking of buying another TLT U2g Northern especially as the price has come down so much. Soon there won't be any left and I really don't think they'll do a second run. It is likely my only chance to get a model of an actual CN steam loco without going to brass which means it is now or never. What do you think keeping in mind I had to send 2 back this summer? Am I nuts? Others on the forum seem happy with theirs. If it is defective I wonder if TLT will even answer my calls? I was nice about it  to them but maybe I'm jinxed with this loco.

Had a nice day today. I was off work and we went out to lunch at a nice spot here called 529 Wellington. It was part of our Christmas present to ourselves.

Well if I keep this up Chloe will be able to make me breakfast so I'll say good night or good morning which ever you prefer.

Last day of the year!

Good Morning Gang!

This is the time of the year to come up with a few resolutions for the new year, but I won´t be making any, other than not making any. This year has been a year of many surprises, quite a few of them unfortunately not good ones.

The best of this year was, that I could restart into the hobby again - thanks to the help I received from you. The worst part of it was that my job plans did not materialize. I do hope that 2012 will be better in that respect.

Enjoy your day!

Otis Clay, 1980:

Well well well, we're gonna make it, we're gonna make it baby.

We've been broken down to the lowest turn
Bein' on the bottom line, sure ain't no fun
If we should be evicted from our homes,
We'll just move somewhere else and still carry on

Oh, you and me baby

The only way is up, yeah, for me and you now
The only way is up, baby, for me and you now

Now we may not know where our next meal is coming from
But with you by my side, baby, I'll face what is to come
Girl, I want to thank you, for loving me this way
Things may be a little dark now but there'll a brighter day

Just hold on, hold on, it won't be long now
Hold on, hold on

The only way is up, yeah, for me and you now
The only way is up, baby, for me and you now

You and me together, we're gonna make it yeah
Life make you raw but we can take it, ah...
I truly know we're gonna make it

The only way is up, baby, for me and you now
The only way is up, yeah, for me and you now
The only way is up, baby, for me and you now
The only way is up, yeah, for me and you now
The only way is up, hold on, hold on, it won't be long
The only way is up, hold on, hold on

Good Morning,

It was 50f outside yesterday, I could have done some things out in the garage if I wasn’t stuck in the house.

Todd, oh I could lose it no problem.  I was working out to lose weight before the kidney stones so this is all a bonus.

Ken, if you look at a drill gauge 4.5mm is huge.  I think the only reason I was sent home to try and pass them was because of Christmas.

Sue, I have a molar implant on the bottom left and I love it.  The stones are gone but now when I empty my bladder it feels like razor blades are coming out and at the end the stent “pulls” on my kidney.  So I feel better mentally knowing I’m on the road to recovery.  Doc left two threads attached to the stent that are taped to myself so he can pull it out on Wednesday, I’m not sure how this is going to work and I’m a little nervous.  Last time I had a stent they removed it in another surgery.

Rob, those walk behind Bobcats are cool.  I rented a backhoe version a few years ago and it did all the back breaking work for me.  I just ordered some hay bales myself: 16 round hay bales and 19 square bales of straw for $12.98. (189-1212) they are on sale at Walther’s, LOL!

Jeff, does your dad have a floor jack?  Next time try using the jack to level the couch.  I use a small hydraulic jack to level heavy furniture or appliances.

Well... you didn't wake up this morning
Because you didn't go to bed
You were watching the whites of your eyes
Turn red
The calendar, on your wall, is ticking the days off
The calendar on your wall is ticking
the days off
You've been reading some old letters
You smile and think how much you've changed
All the money in the world
Couldn't bring back those days.
You pull back the curtains, and the sun burns into your eyes,
You watch a plane flying across a clear blue sky.
THIS IS THE DAY -- Your life will surely change.
THIS IS THE DAY -- Your life will surely change.
You could've done anything -- if you'd wanted
And all your friends and family think that you're lucky.
But the side of you they'll never see
Is when you're left alone with the memories
That hold your life together like
Glue

Yep, It is December 31st, again!

I don't think I have ever set New Years resolutions!  I prefer to make resolutions when I feel they are needed!

Although I will turn 62 this year, I am not particularly excited by this!  I am thankful that today, at this moment I am still alive!

Something I am considering doing this year would be to rid my layout of the under the bench work staging yard I have that has been an absolute hindrance to my enjoyment of my layout!  Where I would put staging is the question at this time!

To all: Happy New Year!

Mark

Good Morning!! Coffee and oh I don’t know. Surprise me.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 53. CoolCan’t complain.

Well happy Last Day of the Year. You're welcome, you're welcome. Even though it’s debatable as to when the last day of the year is, but Happy Last Day of the Year anyway. Sorry, it’s one holiday they actually have no card for. I guess since the calendar ends today they figure we won’t be around for tomorrow anyway.

No plans for tonight othern might run uptown and have a little New Years Eve cheer before retiring for the evening. I wonder if we’ll make it til midnight this yearHmm. That’s the challenge right there I tell you what.

The Living Room floor is finally done. Yippee. Now I have to do the Dining room. Will start on that today as soon as Grumpy…Indifferent…. I mean Sleeping BeautyWhistling, awakens to assist me in moving the table and sideboard into the Living room. May be awhile though, she needs to sit and have a cup of coffee and a pack of cigarettes before you can even get near her and still keep all your limbs. We should take this prime opportunity to get rid of as much of our accumulated sh…stuff as the landfill will hold. But alas, that probably won’t happen. I ask, why lay hardwood floors when once done you won’t see them anyway. Could have saved time and money just laying a path.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good morning, Chloe.  Coffee in a NP mug with a waffle.  May I have extra maple syrup, please.

Lee,  The stent removal sounds as uncomfortable as the stones.  Good luck with that.Grumpy

Rob,  Glad to see that tree is down.  It looked like more branches than firewood.  One big wind and it could have been all over.

Jeff, does your dad have a floor jack?  Next time try using the jack to level the couch.  I use a small hydraulic jack to level heavy furniture or appliances.

He does but it's made to lift a thirty-three foot motor home. I can't carry the darn thing.
