Re Eliott- Sraight poop is after 18 years of diabetes a nd then roughly 5 years ago cancer, he didn't have the strength to keep up his work. Still kicking but not as high. Here we are following "Moon River" as the crews call it. Colorado River to most people.
Looking upward in the lounge car:
Our train was held in Fraser Colorado for an hour waiting for a crew working inside Moffat Tunnel. Passengers were allowed to be outside during the wait.
Looking ahead of the train in Fraser, CO, we can see a mountain range that includes the Winter Park Ski Area. I recall skiing there numerous times when I was younger.

Was just perusing around the forums in my monthly pilgrimage here when I came across this thread. Nice to see that the diner is still rolling around. :D
The family is doing great, We've had a wonderful Christmas with the relatives, school is a PITA (as usual) and Dad's got a job with one of the many support companies that service the gas wells around here, and we've been back on track financially. There is not exactly much to go around, but there is enough coming in weekly to start padding the bank again.
On the model front, I've not gotten much farther than a operable layout. I've added a little to my rosters, but my efforts have been redirected to my module for the club layout. I've gotten it to a running state, but scenery is being worked on.
So far, the festivities are awesome. I went to DC on the 22nd to sing with my choir at the National Christmas tree. Trip there was awesome, and I got to see the SR 1401 and the John Bull while I was "spiriting" through the museum. Only downside? On the way back, the bus lost 4 studs on the front wheel and we had to stop in a small town on the way. We were stuck there for 5 hours. One of the kids lost it and we all had to deal with him trying to punch his way out of the bus through the wall. To make it worse, one of my friends birthday was that day, so I felt bad for her as she had to suffer through it. She did not even see her parents at all that day, so that was a bummer. Long story short, we arrived home at 9AM.
I hope everyone is in great health and spirits, and I hope to bump in again within the next millennium

The day started with a heavy thunderstorm and hail, but iit is calm again. Way too warm for the season, the migrant birds are heading north again. We will have a cold spell for Friday and Saturday, but on Sunday it is expected to get up as high as 14° C again.
Nothing much to do today. I planned on putting up the shelf, but the money I had set aside went to my son for whatever reason

I’m excited to get this stone out of here and move on with my life. Sitting around the house has been a drag to say the least. My surgery is at 1300, and my mom will be going in for surgery around 1130, different hospitals but we agreed who ever woke up first would try to call the other, LOL.

Well it's back to the office for me today and currently its 36F and the Sun is making its way up here in the Mile High area. Finished up my Georgetown Loop Trip Report this weekend <Click Here> ending with a great video (Part III of III) of Steam Engine #12 running from Georgetown to Silver Plume while keeping the "record" button going all the way from beginning to end. Might help some with modeling ideas seeing this section of the old C&S in the Rocky Mountains twist and loop it's way up a valley.

That’s where I was born, that’s my Nationality. AS for Nationality prior to family in the U.S., well considering only one side has traced back and the farthest they can go is 1806, I claim….Texan. Had a son, my Great Grandfather, was born in Texas after their Independence so I guess that makes me a descendant of a true Texan. I suppose I could say Mexican for my Great Great Grandfather who was born there when Mexico had it, but Texas is more fun to claim. Most people for some reason, and I clearly remember this from school myself, don’t know Texas was a Nation, or have forgot. They can tell you more about other countries than they can our own. Now what's wrong with that picture.

I'm with you when you say "I claim United Statesian." When asked, I claim "Canadian." I was born in Canada. My mother was born in Canada. My father emigrated from England. I'll never forget the hassle I had when I joined Air Cadets back in the mid-1950s when I was in my early teens. They asked me my nationality so I said Canadian. They said that wouldn't do, what was my father's nationality. I replied that he was a Canadian citizen. That wouldn't do either. Where was my father born. I said England. Aha, okay then, you're British. I remarked that they didn't want to know what nationality I was, they wanted to know what nationality my father was. That didn't sit too well with the person signing me up. Oh well, I didn't care, I speak my mind.

Todd and Bob, I am with you on the Nationality thing. I used to tell my eighth graders THAT I was mostly English, Irish, and German, with some Scotch and a little Bourbon. I am descended from a long line my Father gave my Mother.... When I take the online surveys and they ask me what ethnic group I am, I usually put down other. And then fill in the blank with: Human! Did you know that most peoples nationally stands for "the People that live here?"
Should get to spend most of the day playing with trains! YES!

24F and a hazy sky - must be winter. Back in the shop again this morning and ready to run some errands. The LHS has moved again so I need to find out where though I do more and more mail order as I find less and less i need locally. Did spend some time last night on the layout mostly recycling factory buildings to suit the new locations. Also tried bashing some old stores to look like a 60's station on a local commuter line. We'll see.....
Todd - as practiced as you must be I'm suprised the girls here in the diner still connect with the fry pan so often. Still beats the follow up from cousin Vinnie though, no ?
Jim - I'd check the local H.D. as there is a new Quick Change Dremel cutoff wheel that seems pretty indestructible and has metal and plaxtic cutters. Vice grips should suffice to hold the wire (and don't forget the safety glasses). Easier on the hands than borrowing Sues bolt cutters.
I was happy to see Flip shared Elliots response to our inquires about his health and well being. I'm very happy to see I was wrong about Elliots demise though he is still in poor health but in remission from his bout with cancer. I've lost a couple of friends in similar situations so I concur it's never really gone. Still it's good the founder of the diner is still among us. Prayers for Elliot and his missus are in order.
I see Nick n and Oz Jim have checked in as well and good on ya. Now we just need to hear from Jerry and Inch and bridge Tom again.
Galaxy - glad your new heater has worked in ok. Did you ever get your layout up and running?
Dennis - glad you liked your rail excursion up north. 29 hours with no sleeper is about the reasonable limit. I did 30something a couple of years ago coming back from Florida and I wouldn't do it again without at least an inflatable pillow and a blanket as you just get beat up by the condiiton of the rail out east here. Next time we get out west I'd like to run at least the coast line from LA to SF.
Jeff - I hope you don't totally overdo it again. Good of the delivery crew to help out with the furniture moving and even better dear old dad didn't call you back to help with the rest of the rearranging (just a foot over here etcetera).

My grandson in Grand Rapids has a birthday today, and I called him last night. Two of our five adult kids have birthdays on December 31. One is a son in Cincinnati, and we're driving there tomorrow. Michigan family memebrs are driving down for a get-together. Next month, we're headed to AZ where our daughter lives (she is the other 12/31 b'day). ........ I need a score card to keep up with all of this stuff.
Anyhow, I won't be on the compter much if any for a few days.

Jim, Based on changing Global Warming patterns we are scheduled to get Wetter AND Hotter and on average I would say that is turning out to be true. We keep setting High Temp records and the seasons seem to be shifting a bit each year. Right now its 53F and Mostly Sunny. This is Winter right?

Funny thing is I got a refund from last month, so I wonder if I get one this month too? I only had one Dr.s appointment and the usual Prescritptions.If you don't use all of your spenddown, they refund it to you,

It's 67° and mostly sunny. The high will be 69° and it will be sunny and pleasant.This has been a busy day for me. First thing this morning I got a call from my father. He needed help getting a sofa and some huge bags of women's clothes loaded so they could be taken to the outreach ministries in town. The bags were so big and heavy it took both of us to pick up one! We wrestled four of those to the front door then used a wheelbarrow to get them to the truck. The wheelbarrow had to be pulled up a couple of steps from the patio to the walk. I think I surprised my father when I picked up the front of the wheelbarrow with my left arm so the wheel cleared the steps. He was pulling it backward. Getting the sofa out was fun. It was in the den and had to be turned on it's end and pushed around a 180° corner through the hall into my fathers study. From there it had to be lifted overhead to get it past the printer and computer tables (huge steel and fiberglass monstrosities we got for nothing from the army) and my fathers huge L-shaped steelcase desk (bought it from AT&T for $50), then between the desk and several enormous five foot tall filing cabinets. Finally got it to the front door where is was once again flipped up on it's end and maneuvered through the door. From there it had to be carried fifty+ feet up the front walk to the truck he was using. My nephew (my fathers grandson) was supposed to have fixed a problem on my fathers truck way before now but hasn't done it for this or that reason. Mostly because he's having too much fun with his friends. So naturally my fathers truck wouldn't start. No problem. He grabbed his grandsons truck despite some complaints. My fathers response? You didn't have mine mine fixed when you said you would. Now I can use yours today or you can use it to move your stuff out of my trailer. Which is it going to be? The answer to that was simple! We put some miles on that truck today. When we got to the Helping Hands Ministries there were two women there who were going to take the bags of clothes off the truck. Yeah! Right! My father and I got them down on the street then the youngest of the two tried carrying one on her own. She ALMOST succeeded! I told my father we better not$1****$2that young lady off. She could probably sweep the sidewalk with both of us! I got back home about an hour ago and I feel like I wrestled with a gorilla.Well, I got my Mystery Machine van today. What I consider HO Scale and what Aurora considers HO Scale are two different things altogether. This thing is massive! Even larger than 1/64. It looks more akin to a monster truck Mystery Machine! So, that's what I'll use it as. How does Ezra Johnson have fun? He drives a semi sized Mystery Machine!I washed the resin vehicles castings and took them outside for a coating of spray of gray primer. Later I'll start on painting them.
