Good Morning All,

So I assume Halloween isn’t an observance of trick and treat; it’s a free license to play non-stop Christmas music in every store. I enjoy Christmas music, but what happened to waiting until after Thanksgiving?  Hello people! There is a reason only 200 Christmas songs have been recorded!

I went into Target Thursday and 2 employees were marking down everything Halloween in isle 8 and 9 while 3 employees decorated display Christmas trees, stocked lights, and ornaments in isle 10 through 14.  It just wasn’t right having those two holidays so close together.

I went to Wal-Mart Saturday to pick up dog food and saw Santa in the employee break area.  Then again it's Wal-Mart and nothing should surprise me.  Some Wal-Marts probably has someone dressed as Santa shopping there on a regular basis.

Morning All,

I'm just sitting here waiting until I have to leave for my medical appointment. I got a call from work last night and I am working OT today 4 PM-12 PM. I hope to have the framing done on the extension before I go to work.

Talk  to you later.

Good morning, Chloe.  I will have coffee and a cinnamon roll, please.

Ray,  Nice choice on the powerhouse color.  We like primer as well.  For red brick, we use Krylon ruddy brown primer.  It is on several of our brick buildings.  Have fun with the grouting and weathering.

Rob,  Bringing your goats in at night will be a good ritual for both you and the goats.  They like the attention.

Later,  Sue

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.

Good morning. It's 65° and foggy. After the fog lifts it will be cloudy. The high is expected to be 76° and it will be mostly cloudy. There's a 1-% chance of rain today changing to 40% after 8 pm.

I did some cleanup on the layout last night and this morning. While it's still not at it's best it is better than it was. I found a tree with a broken trunk. A little super glue fixed it right up. I had dinner at my parents place last night. Steak with rice, onion, green and red peppers and tomatoes. I don't take tomatoes well and my body is letting me know all about it. As a result I won't be doing much today.

 Morning Folks!

 Flo, coffee please.

Having Monday off is messing with me some. I used to be off on Sunday and Wednesday. So I am sitting here thinking today is Wednesday and was planing to run to K-10 Trains. Hum, it's Monday, he's closed. Whistling

Down to 1 car is getting to be a real pain! I have a little running to do and Sue is all ready bugging me about getting going so she can have the car. So much for sitting down, drinking some coffee and enjoying the dinner.

 See you later today.

Strong coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

***Ken, asking someone to do anything before having a coffee just isn't right.

***Sue, after sleeping in this morning (much needed), I didn't get down to let the goats back out so they migrated to the pond. Guess there are plenty of weeds in there for them to work on for now. I'd better double check the gate to the orchard though, as I wouldn't want them to get in there again and finish off rimming the fruit tress. (little bastar*s)

***Jeffrey & Curt: Excellent layout pics.Yes Jeffrey, anyone living in that trailer? I forgot.

***Ulrich, that loco is a beauty. Nice setting, too.

***Ray, nice progress on the structure. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

***Todd, you are a funny guy! I enjoy your posts.

My sister flew in yeasterday evening. We will have a busy week with numerous meeting with various folks to sort things out. Thank god for a great sister who knows alot more about this stuff than I do and is so willing to help. What a mess.

All for now, Rob

Good Evening (or late Afternoon) Gang!

It´s one of those days! Have been fighting against windmills all day long and feel pretty worn out by nothing right now.

Flo, a big Beer for me, please, just to wash down the day.

I have all my rolling stock neatly lined up on my modules. I have now 2 steam locos, 4 passenger cars, 1 boxcar and one EMU. Makes me really happy! Now all I need is another EMU and a few freight cars and I should turn into one of the happiest men in the world! That´s just because I have given up on my dream of a log cabin by a lake, with a little boat moored there and a pick-up parked in the driveway.

Gifts of real value come in small packages!

Rob - it is so good to see you are a regular again. You are still in our prayers.

Ken - I hope the training finally works out. Got a hunch that someone wants to wear you out - I do hope this will not be the case.

Jeff - I really like these little scenes you keep posting here. There is so much atmosphere in them Thumbs Up

Joe - a belated congrats on that college acceptance! Gosh, come to think of it, I graduated from university 32 years ago...

Lee - our shops get out the Christmas decoration by mid of September. Fortunately no Christmas songs yet on the radio. Sometimes I have the feeling that the year is divided into two seasons only - before Christmas and Christmas. Not good, at least IMHO.

Petra is calling me for supper, so CUL, folks!

Hello .... I'll have chile please.

Jeff . I like your scenes!

Curt ... you photo looks great.

Ray ..... I saw in my Micoscale catalog a sheet of cobble stone and I thought of the building you would like to build.. However, I looked more carefully and the cobble stones are rectangular. ... Oh well. Perhaps there is a way to make a wall like that using play sand particles.

Jerry ... I'm glad you are making progress.

Rob .... Glad you could sleep. Remember, we are always here for you.

Ken ... I hope you can enjoy your Mondays.

Thank you to those who like my scenes.Smile

I received two freight cars today. Both are Tyco brown box models that had been retro-fitted with Fleishman couplers (somewhat smaller than those used on the Thomas and Harry Potter trains) with what seems to me a not-so-good glue as it fairly disintegrated when I removed said couplers. It appears it wasn't kind to the plastic either as it made it bubbly and fragile. I was able however to salvage the trucks. I haven't seen this particular type of coupler since the 60's. A OO Scale set I had was equipped with them.

The first car is a Tyco center flow hopper (Kellogg's 958-A released 1972). The Tyco trucks and plastic wheels were replaced with AHM trucks and metal wheels. I removed the Fleishman couplers and body mounted Kadee #5's in #242 gear boxes.

The second car is a Tyco container flatcar (SeaLand 352-B). The Tyco trucks and plastic wheels were removed and AHM three axle trucks with two metal wheelsets each were substituted. Since the photos were taken I've refitted it with the original type Tyco trucks it came with. The AHM trucks proved to be troublesome on turns. The containers have the proper SeaLand logo. There was a variation released that had the red area of the logo upside-down so the "L" was to the left of the "S" and looked like a "7". As far as I know those are worth no more than those with the proper logo.

Nice trailers. Do they have to go on the flat car that way around. Is that the way the car is built.

LION thinks to turn them around that way thieves would not be able to open the doors and steal the contents.

Evening All,

At w**k tonight but on OTYes.

Did the Ultrasound this morning and now waiting on the Radiologist to read it. I changed 2 more electrical plugs today in the kitchen (3 to go) and painted my current diesel servicing facility. I was going to work on bench work but it had rained early, there was a lot of moisture in the air and it looked like it wanted to rain again although it ended up clearing. There is no rush on it so no big deal.

Have a good night.

 Afternoon Folks!

Flo, Beer and I will pay for a round for the house.

 Work Front.

Ulrich As far as wearing me out specially, well I seen the schedules of the other managers. So no they are not picking me out. This week the new manger I am working with is scheduled to work 60.5 hours. My friend all so put in some 60 hours weeks, so they are not picking on me.

Main thing I am concerned about is so far there is no format to the training. Picking up stuff here and there, but no step 1, step 2, step 3 etc.

I am official now! Got my benefit package today, so I guess I will be paid Friday! Yes\

House Front. 98% sure I have all the needed paper work that is needed. But, I bet the Bean Counters will come up with something I am missing! Talk with Marcia today from ILL Hardest Hit Program (agency that is helping me) and she got me a little worried. There is a chances now with me having a Good Paying Job, the program may not do for me what I was told. Bang Head Sometimes it seems every step I take forward, I take 2 steps backwards.

Train Front. Sad Seems the Athearn POS SD 40-2, hum I meant RTR is giving up the ghost again. Makes a good awful screeching sound when started, stop and start again, screeching again, stop and start again still makes odd sounds but no screeching. So it back on the RIP track and will be re-motored.

To bad the Sun Down shop is so backed upLaugh With all the stuff I need worked on, Jeffery could have make some extra cash. Going to send the first shipment to Darth Santa Fe Wednesday.

Speaking of the Sun Down Shop.Jeffery sent me a set of SD 40-2 trucks and looks like they will fix the SD 50 that hit the floor. Plus I got a sweet DOW cover Hopper and a Athearn RTR motor! Hum, after this last bout with Athearn Motors, I may be sending that back.

See you all later and drink up. I may buy a second round.

Hey again everyone!  Just stopping off with a big pot of spaghetti for everyone to enjoy!  Certainly more than we can enjoy here, so I figured I'd "spread the love".  All right, well, its off for me to take another plate of food then get the girls in the tub and off to bed.  I may be back, I may not, you never know!

Good Evening, Chloe - I'll have a CAW mug of coffee and a blueberry muffin, please 'n' thank you!

Just stopping by on my way home tonight. W**k ran a bit late (stayed to make sure client's ride to the hospital arrived - they were quite a bit later than they initially promised, we'll just say...).

Jeff, looks like Ezra has a new travel trailer there - nice! Thumbs Up I'd agree with Ray, please go light on the weathering on that beauty. And you're keeping the Sundown shops busy with maintenance on your new rolling stock, for sure.

Ray, is that the DPM kit for the powerhouse, or did you use their modules and build your own? (Either way, I like the layout on yours). Do they use grey bricks up your way? I'm not used to seeing that color in my area, so it threw me off a bit.

Garry, glad to help you find all the glitches, eh? Smile, Wink & Grin

Paul, good to see you in the Diner (and having the time to stop by). At least with your rain, it'll keep the dust down in your parts of Texas. Have you tried Firefox for your browser? A number of the Diners (including myself) use a version of it, and it seems to w**k okay for us. Try not to wear yourself out there.

Barry - as for that BOFH episode... Laugh ROTFLMAO!! Oh, yeah, thanks for the info on 'the numbers'. Dang, I wish I could just think them down - you and my doctor both tell me I need to exercise (but getting that done, is another matter Oops). Hey, actually, we have a roundabout on my way from my place to w**k or even to the mall (suchhhhh fun!) Of course, ours isn't a multi-lane one like your photo, just one... Whistling

Todd, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think there is a less confusing model of the female species...but I could be wrong (OUCH! Chloe, I was just kiddin', honest - OUCH! That hurts, and besides, you'll bend that skillet, hitting me with it!) Anyway, Todd, just don't let Brenda know about your Facebook account and all the former high school cuties you know through there... Smile, Wink & Grin

Ulrich, you can have the log cabin and that pickup - but it may need to be in 1:160th scale....Wink How are you coming along on ideas for your next module, by the way?

Curt, good job on the diesel facility there. Thumbs Up How big is that area?

Bama, you're keeping yourself pretty busy there, between w**k hours and the home cooking stuff with your girls (how's your wife and the new son doing?). Thumbs Up

Galaxy, your mentioning taking that A/C out of your window reminded me of the guy in the basement apartment below mine. It's a studio that's half the size of mine, and I've noticed that he is still running his wall-mounted A/C unit that he has. Haven't had mine on for weeks here (But I have had the baseboard (electric) heat on several days in the past couple of weeks).

Today, I decided to order some of those Detail Associates backgrounds (I think some of Jeff's background stuff - besides the Busch or Noch ones that he has - come from D.A.). Day or two ago, I noticed somebody asking about Detail Associates contact info, and when I went looking for that info, I found out that the guy who was one of the four co-founders (two sold their stake a while back, and there's a silent financial partner who isn't involved in the day-to-day running of the business), that he won't be around much longer. So any of you who have got Detail Associates detail parts for locos, or some of their backgrounds, may want to check any online/LHS stocks of their stuff before they fade away. It always bothered me that (even though I've heard good reports on) the D.A. backgrounds are always shown in black & white in Walthers' catalog (but when I've seen photos of the backgrounds, they look great). Not sure if it's because big W thinks they'll lose sales on their Instant Horizons backdrops or if the D.A. company just couldn't keep up with demand if everybody saw how good their stuff is.

Well (somewhat lower level, but the frogs in it will get a dowsing in the next 2-3 days, I hear), I need to pick up some groceries on the way home (since it's payday and all that). Got the gas tank filled on the car earlier (over lunch there were way too many cars there, so I swung back around after I got lunch done) - at $2.95 a gallon, better price than it's been for a while here. Smile

Prayers for continued good night's rest for those getting it, and better Zzz's for those having difficulties in that area, as well as some for those needing comfort and less pain.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just my usual decaf at this time of night.  I'll go sit at the Rivet Counter for a while....

JimRCGMO

Ray, is that the DPM kit for the powerhouse, or did you use their modules and build your own? (Either way, I like the layout on yours). Do they use grey bricks up your way? I'm not used to seeing that color in my area, so it threw me off a bit.

OK....  Jim, Sue, and others.... (and thanks Jim!) Here is what is happening with the DPM Kit (yep, Jim it was the kit I started with).  The kit as designed would be too large to fit in the location it will be in at the top of Bare Mountain near the Quarry, so I made it 3/4 the width of what they gave me by just not using one section of the wall modules on it.  I also changed a few other places for windows and doors where it made sense.  For instance the door they put in is shown exiting the back of the building where it would be right into a steep hill on my layout.....  So I put THAT on the front side of the building.  Next, the horrid plastic looking brickwork had to have something done to it before I gagged, so I was originally going to use a wash of light gray mixed with alcohol to wick into the mortar lines.  THAT worked on the Walthers Modulars I have done well.  On the DPM plastic it dryed on contact and turned the horrid plastic red color to a pukey pink color!  Gag!

So I went online and did a search and came up with a technique some guy who does fantastic weathering named Robby (name ring a bell?) wrote about here at the forum a long time ago. Last night I spray painted the entire outside of the building with gray primer....  THAT is the MORTAR color.  Even around these parts bricks back in 1920 weren't usually gray.....Whistling  So the whole building is now the color I want for the mortar....  THAT is what all of you folks saw last night. Wink

Saturday I went to Michaels in Canandaigua and bought a bunch of redish colored fancy art pencils that Robby recomended and told my sister who got upset I would do such a thing as she has loads of them left over from her summer art lessons she teaches every year.  Today I spent an hour or so going over the raised surface of the plastic bricks which were painted gray primer with a Terra Cotta colored art pencil (it seemed to be the closest to some old local bricks I have) to give the bricks a "Brick" color and still have gray mortar in between the bricks where the masons put mortar to hold the bricks in place........  I will then add some other colors to some of the bricks to make them look a bit varied in places.

If I have time to finish up the first side tomorrow I will post a photo (or 2 or 3) of the semi finished product.  I do think it looks a whole lot better than the icky, awful plastic looking red color they made them.....

I set up a couple of games for the Scout visit tomorrow.  One is an Inglenook Style Timesaver.  The other is a bunch of RR cars they will have to ID and tell what they were used for (one of the requirements of the MB).  They will also get a grand tour of the Seneca lake, Ontario, & Western RR.

I got an email late this evening telling i am "off the hook" for a merit badge day in another district scheduled for next Saturday.  Only one Scout Signed up for the RR MB and he got talked into doing a different one.  THAT will give me more time to get some other things THAT have to be done by the end of the weekend finished.

Hope you all have a great night!

Good Morning!! Slaw burger with cheese and an order of onion petals with some of that southwestern honey mustard dippin sauce please. Oh and a Dr Pepper. Thanks.

Jim- No less confusing models huh? It is in my best interest to casually mention every woman I have contact with from time to time. Any questions that arise are much better and far easier to deal with (no matter how out there they may be) than the women that I …..”hide” my contact with. (said with a squinty face and a nasal tone) “ so, you’ve been talking to so and so. (at this point her tongue pushes her cheel out usually on the left side of her face)  Funny you never mentioned it. Is there a reason you're keeping it so quiet? Why don't you want me to know? Oh I’m just kidding huuuuunny you know I trust you. Oh that hidden microphone in your shirt collar was a gag haha. The GPS locator on your truck? hahaha I just thought that might come in handy for fishing. Here, I got you some new sunglasses. Aren’t they pretty? With a nice, shiny...., stone right in the middle there for some flash. That bump? Uh, it’s a big stone. Saaaaaay why did that girl at the gas station when we were in Waco smile and say thank you to you anyway…..did you know her? An old girlfriend maybe? Hmmmmm?”

So Ray- Grey bricks are common up there eh? Never thought of pencils to draw in the red mortar lines. I’d have changed it and done it the other way around though. Red brick. Still, looking forward to see how it turns out. Wink

Well, today I guess I’ll put the restaurants groceries away, and help load the old Fitty Six Fowd on the trailer to haul to the body shop. Then w**k at 5.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Lunchtime in good ol´ Germany!

Zoe, I´ll have a steak sandwich and a salad, blue cheese dressing, please. And a strong coffee to wash it down!

A dull day - November! Nothing much planned, other than hanging around in the forum, putting on my moderator´s hat for a while. Thank goodness it is fairly quiet in here these days.

Ray - can hardly wait to see some pictures. I just cannot picture the grey brick with red mortar lines - yet.

Jim - the next module will have a depot for my EMUs and maybe a little maintenance facility. Right now I am lacking the energy to tackle that, but I am sure I will get started before Christmas on it. Talking about log cabins - I still prefer to have one 1:1 scale Whistling

Bama - spaghetti - my favourite! Thanks for the invitation.

Galaxy - Hope you are feeling better today!

Ken - I do hope things work out for you. Both of are in an age where we should sail in fairer waters now.

Curt - I love those pictures of your layout. Coming along nicely Thumbs Up

Jerry - I love the simplicity of Kato´s system. Suits my inability to handle a soldering iron Smile, Wink & Grin

Have a good one!

Good morning. It's 66 and cloudy. The high will be 79 with a 40+% chance of thunderstorms throughout the day.

Hopefully I don't have a project that requires I work on it outside today. Radar shows a very ugly looking line of thunderstorms coming across central Texas moving fast toward Louisiana. I saw a lot of yellow, orange and red in there indicating heavy rain. There's really nothing much to work on today so I'll probably just clean up some areas and give the track a wipe down.

I'm feeling better than I was yesterday so that's a plus. The container flat I worked on yesterday is in good shape but the containers are the old 24' truck trailer bodies. I don't believe anybody uses those anymore. Maybe I'll just make a 40' container to go on there.
