Coffee refill and a veggie plate, please.

***Ulrich, CONGRATS! Hope you will enjoy the work.

***Todd, actually, now that I think about it, the brickwork is on the inside and I do not recall if they are red or gray bricks. There is sheet foam insulation covering them. The outside of the well house is stone work with gray mortar.

Got the door cut and in place on the well house, minus any hinges which really are not needed. Did the old "scrap wood sections nailed to the frame, then rotated to hold the door in place" routine. Did that make any sense? Glad that project is behind me.

Today's projects were a Tyco UP 40' MoW gondola X159 and a Mantua 50' unlettered flatcar. Nothing major. Just converted them from truck mounted couplers to body mounted Kadee's.

Afternoon all,, Zoe could I have a short barley pop please.

Just a quicky stop to remind ya’ll tomorrows Armistice [Veterans now] Day, ending the Great War, and to thank all who served and are serving now.

The cease fire began on the 11’th month, 11’th day at the 11’th hour, and this year it is remembered on 11-11-11.

 Notice anything there

And now back to my regularly scheduled diapers changing here.

Afternoon all.  Just stopping in for a short break before heading off to do more HD stuff.  Looks like I won't be going hunting this afternoon as the wife has increased the length of the list she gave me yesterday.  Oh well, I'll make it out there soon, I know it.

Ulrich: Congratulations sir!  Just remember, SOMEthing is better than NOthing.

Welp, that's about it for me, I'll be back later, gotta get more stuff moved around.

Ulrich- I am biting my tongue hard. I want so bad to jump in jubilation over the news. But, I don’t want to jinx anything. I will do my own little ignore it kinda thing until your first day. Then I will celebrate. Until then….well, I’ll try. Please don't leave the diner to live with Robby and Ryan.

I didn't know they lived together.Confused

Rob- You have grey bricks too? I thought Georgia had red clay. Hm.

Waste of time and ten bucks. Found out AFTER the 1 hour ordeal, Cashier's Checks are no longer "golden" They still can, and usually do, hold significant checks until cleared. Might as well have written a personal check from the Estate account. I thought it would be easier for out of state recipients. Apparently not anymore.

Oh well.

Galaxy - it won´t be so! I will continue to be a frequent guest to the Diner and continue to wear my moderator´s hat, but I will have a considerably less time to w*rk on my layout. I hope to get a few things done till then.

I am still dreaming of that log cabin by a lake, somewhere in the US or Canada.

Sir Madog

I have not talking about the following, but as things are getting affirmative now, it is time to break the news. Starting Jan. 1st, 2012, I will have a job. Nothing exotic like doing the night watch at a nuclear plant or being a bouncer at the local disco, but a regular job, in line with what I have been doing for over 30 years. I´ll be the CFO of a small marketing consulting firm, a start-up business with lots of troubles to overcome. I won´t be earning a fortune, just a little more than we have now, but I´ll be earning Petra´s and my keep, after more than 2 years on the dole.  Feels good!

AW, SHUCKS Ulrich! Not a REAL, EXOTIC job???? Confused Why how could you take such a thing? We only want retirement or REAL jobs around here! Huh?

Does this mean you won't have {*sniff*} time for us as Moderator any more {*sniff*}???

Will you go away and disappear like ROBBY P. and RYAN and Others??? {*sniff*}

Will you then only post once or twice a month {*sniff*} if that, leaving us wondering if the COrporate world has eaten you {*Sniff*} up???

Say it ain't so!! Crying

you will be {*sniff*} missed then!! If you don't have time for us!!!

Afternoon....

Chloe, I'll have cheeseburger, fries, and a cup of hot chocolate to tide me over to dinner.

Ulrich, Thank you sir!  Oh!  Congrats on the new job!!!  Hope it goes well for you.

Rob, Todd wants to know if the brickwork is gray?  He seems to have a thing about gray bricks......

Almost time to go to my son's house to watch the granddaughters...

Later!

Ulrich, please lock that "Friends" thread I started a couple years ago THAT somebody just had to bring back...  Thanks!

Ray - mission accomplished! Not only because you asked for it, but this thread is absolutely useless now, with a high potential of a flame war.

Rob - good to see you - our thoughts are still with you!

Strong Italian roast coffee in a Burlington Northern mug, please.

***Curt, I like the "sensible parking" you've laid out there. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Still a bit overwhelmed at times, but chipping away on the most important matters. Any progress beats the alternative. I really need to make a door for the well pump house "today", as temps are finally falling tonight. Have put this off since the tornado removed the old door. At least all the brickwork remains untouched.

Have a good day all.

Jeff- Had an old, well not that old, guy who lived here in Williamsville. He was a guy I imagine would be a bit like Ezra. Don't all towns have one. When he passed and they went through the garages and old sheds he had it was aaaaMAZE-ing what treasures they found. Figured Ezra's garage would be just chock full of the stuff American Pickers could film an entire season over.

Ray- I figured you picked up on it right off the bat.Laugh But actually, I signed on just now to PM you just to make sure Laugh ..... you know, just in case. Hey, never can be sure what you're dealing with out here in la la land Whistling Seriously, I do like the shade of red much better. I have taken notes on what you've done. Some red brick just doesn't look right and it is also nice to have variations in red bricks like the real thing.

Well, forgot what I was gonna do before I came in here. I suppose I'll remember as soon as I walk out.

OMG!  Runs in, slams door!  Did you see what is outside?  It's a huge cat.... looks like a Tiger!!!  And it looks hungry as well.  I'm lucky I made it to the door!  Probably wouldn't have except it was gnawing on the remains of a squirrel........

Coffee, Flo, lots of coffee!  When my heart stops pounding I'll decide what to have for breakfast.  BTW, what is Todd yapping about?  Diseasals?  F-40?  What the heck are they?  Oh, something THAT will be coming sometime in the future....  OK.  I guess THAT applies to the Ambtrick thing he mentioned as well....

Todd, I knew you were pulling my leg, just wanted to see how long you'd keep going.  LOL

Ulrich, please lock that "Friends" thread I started a couple years ago THAT somebody just had to bring back...  Thanks!

Going to be another busy day here without any time for model railroading I think.  Have to get an allergy shot, then babysit my granddaughters for a couple hours, and then go to a Boy Scout Camp Properties meeting tonight (I skipped it last month so I best put in an appearance...).

I also have to get some packing done for the Batavia Show on Sunday, and write my column for the Division newsletter.

Think I will skip breakfast and just get to w*rk.

Later!

Jeffrey- I can see why you haven’t shown too many pics of the front of Ezra’s with that classic at the pumps, it makes me wonder what jewels may be visible through the open garage door.

The world may never know. Last time I looked there was some wires, a big light bulb in the middle of the floor and wires going to a light bulb upstairs. It could really benefit from some interior decorating.Laugh

Curt Webb

Jeff- Nice looking layout. That squirrel did not have a good day.

Thanks. The area in the photo is 10 feet between the camera and the far wall. The camera was on top of a DPM building with a sloped flat roof, hence the tilt to the photo.

Jeff ...Looks like a full room.

You said a mouthful there! About 85% of the floorspace in the room is taken up by the layout with kitchen and my tiny computer area squeezed in. Space in the kitchen is standing room only and the computer space has one small chair which must be moved to allow access to the door.

Howdy

Galaxy ... Thanks for the NM tour. By any chance will we pass Paul's farm along the UP track in Texas.

Lion .... I like your creative posts. What is the story? Not many people model subways in North Dakota with wild animals running around. Perhaps in your day job you are a zookeeper who transferred from New York to North Dakota. You got me curious. Anyhow, keep up the fun. Confused

Jeff ...Looks like a full room.

Barry .... Your photos of the models looked good. Feel free to post more.of that.

Curt .... I think I know why you made such rapid progress building the layout. Perhaps, your other half issued a permit for right-of-way in a prime location, and you wanted it built before she changed her mind. Whistling I suppose you will not aske her to get furnature out of your train room yet. Kidding you, of course. I know Florida lacks basements. Your layout photos are great.

Have a great day.

Morning All,

At w**k today and temp is going to be around 83F. Saturday the low is supposed to be in the 40's- YIKES.

Sue- No Car cards yet. I plan on using the Dallas Model Works cards when I do. I want to get construction done first. The layout is in our loft. I kind of took it overWhistling but MOH has a sewing room so I think it's fair.

Barry- I usually turn off the flash and continue to use auto focus.

Jeff- Nice looking layout. That squirrel did not have a good day.

Todd- I know what you mean. I know I am going to put in a coaling trestle and am kind of tossing around the idea of making the entire back outer track elevated not just at the  left end of it. The problem is it will be a tight fit. I also want to do something on the track coming out of the tunnel of the yard. I am not happy with the radius.

 Morning Folks!

 Flo, coffee please.

Go into work today at 11:00 AM, so I have a little time to hang around. Have no idea what my schedule is nor next week, hope they have it posted today.

Friday Is Payday! Yes Hum, the banks are closed? Got a COMDATA pay card from work. Still not quite sure how or where I can use it. While it sort of looks like a CC it only has 10 numbers on it. All so need to get set up to where I can view my pay stubs to make sure I am being paid correctly.

Curt Thank You for posting your layout pictures. Looks pretty interesting from the photos you posted. How big is the layout and do you have 2 main lines? All so a nice collection of buildings.

Well going to run the trains for awhile.

AAAAAGH!!! It’s FREEZING out there!!!!

Good Morning!! Coffee and a bowl of Malt-O-Meal please. Yes a nice big one thank you.

Not much going on yesterday, so I stayed out of trouble.

Jeffrey- I can see why you haven’t shown too many pics of the front of Ezra’s with that classic at the pumps, it makes me wonder what jewels may be visible through the open garage door.

Wolf Spiders are the predominant indoor spider at my house, save the Cellar Spider of course, but they don’t make their presents known quit as much. You know suddenly strolling out into the middle of the floor and then stopping as if to say….. “whoops! Crap!”. I wonder how many residents of Gold Creek are of the eight legged variety. Hopefully within the next couple three weeks, hopefully sooner, I will find out.

Lion- Layout looks great! You got quite a lot going on there.

Barry- I’m with Lion, I’ll take the fuzzy pics. First one does look like a focus problem. Some of my pics it is the Auto Focus that causes the problem, so I turn it off. Of course I have a SLR. The other looks like you just need to get a tripod. “Shutter speed” was a bit slower than the “shudder speed” hahaha. (Ahem) Never mind. I see you got it fixed whatever it was. Would have just deleted what I said but I liked the “shutter/shudder” thing. Laugh

SPEEEEEaking of not getting it. Ray, the power house will be repowering diesel locos you say ? That could explain the grey bricks. But I thought the S.LO.W. was all steam. I get it, just can’t take not having the AMTRAK F-40. Don’t blame you. Me too.

Curt- I remember you starting out. And every time I see the layout I am even more impressed. This will probably not be your last layout. Or at least not the final version of this layout, meaning you will always be working on or improving parts. It will not be long until you are at experienced modeler level. I’m not sure that came out right. I hope you know what I mean. I’m sure glad this is the forum you chose to share the building of your world with!

Charlie- We wouldn’t happen to have the same sister would we? HmmNah. I only heard from mine when she FINALLY came to get the stuff she wanted. I have not heard from her since. The Attorney is sending her her check and I doubt I will hear more I maaaay get a phoney Holiday call that I sometimes get every other year or so. We’ll see. Sad to say, but I loose no sleep over it. How the world’s most perfect grand daughter /niece came from her is a wonder.

Not much on my plate today. Just w**k tonight.

Happy B-Day USMC- Semper Fi

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

.... Needless to say the last thing the critter saw was a bunch of spinning blades. Although it was dead as a brick the squirrel was still in one piece so cleanup was easy.

EEEEWWWW!!!

Saw a TV program {only for the few minutes we could stand} of a backwoods hillbilly showing how to do some "roadkill cooking". we totally lost our appetite and changed channels  when he said in a low, long, slow drawl..." even if the meat ...is a little green... it's still good... enough to eat...just gotta fry it up like this..."

Now it's a running joke when we see roadkill...depending on how  "fresh" and "red colored" it is.

Good morning, Diners.  It was another frosty night.  The moon is so full that it was daylight all night long.  Chloe, please pour me some strong black coffee in a NP mug.

Curt,  Your layout looks fun to operate.  Do you have car cards or switch lists?  I am curious.  Is it in a bonus room, or is it in the living room?  Did you design the house for a layout?

Later, Sue

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.

Good morning. It's 45° and partly cloudy with a 7 mph north wind. The high will be 64° and it will be sunny. Expecting a low tonight of 36°.

Sounds like things are busy on the KCS mainline this morning. I've heard more than half a dozen trains going through in the last couple of hours. I bet my parents poodles are going nuts! They bark at anything that sounds menacing or threatening and trains really set them off. Nothing going on for me at the moment. I'll be doing some cleanup work on the layout. It could stand a good dusting. I got a bit of a start last night when I started up my van to go to the fire station. It fired up and I heard a couple of bangs and a shrill scream. I cut it off and popped the hood and had a look to see if I could see what was wrong. For some reason a squirrel had climbed up onto the front of the engine and got caught by the fan when the engine started. Needless to say the last thing the critter saw was a bunch of spinning blades. Although it was dead as a brick the squirrel was still in one piece so cleanup was easy.

Good Morning Guys!  Just popping in to say hello! Ulrich,Thanks for your advice yesterday. I guess I am just felling a little stressed or over whelmed? HAPPY BIRTHDAY USMC!!  Well it"s payday and almost the weekend. I am off to tour the west desert again...  Its pretty wet out there. The Bonneville salt flats are under water most days lately. I wonder if they flood them or if its a natural low spot? Guess that's why they are flat and such a good place for the speed demons?  Have a great day!

Sir Madog

 galaxy:

GOOD MORNING!!!

Today is Thursday, November 10th, 2011!!!

In Latin: Dies Jovis- Jupiter's Day, After the Roman chief-god Jupiter!!!

Make it a SWELL Day!!!.

Jupiter has long been replaced by the Germanic god Thor, so for me it is Thor´s Day.

Good Morning Gang!

Up early today, just to enjoy a drab November day.

Flo, coffee in an IV bag, please.

Enjoy your day!

Ulrich, I started with the Latin, so I am covering the Latin first, then i will do things like cover the Scandanavian and Germanic versions and the English {all somewhat differing} later! SO Thor's Day for Thursday will get there! incidently, in Scandanavian, Swedish, Norwegian {of which I am a full 1/4 2nd genration USA imigrant}, Danish it is Torsdag, for Thor, the god of thunder. In GERMAN {and DUtch}... my source says it is Donnerstag, for the GERMAN god of Thunder- Donar. English- Thursday was named for the Nordic god Thor, OR perhaps after the Thurs- the Giants. Then some, like Portuguese and Icelandic..it is "fifth day", so it is Quinta Feira, and Fimmtudagur, respectively, Greek is only named for "day of the god"...perhaps referring to Zues...or Hemera Dios.

Doing it just to brighten up mornings and provide some trivia!Wink

Evening all.  Just stopping in for a RBF before I head to bed.  Today was an eventful day.  I pulled the head off a Chevrolet S10 with a 4cylinder and found out that the head was toast (actually more like there were pieces of the head missing from the #2 and #3 Combustion chambers).  So now the customer knows what they're looking at and I'm waiting to hear back from them.  Then I went to my "real" job and learned that our Loss Prevention people had been there all day today (and today is stock day, so that meant NOTHING got put up), so tonight was filled with watching it rain and putting stuff up.  Got almost all of it done, so good for us.  Tomorrow comes a day off for me, which means after taking care of some HD stuff that I have, I'm going to put on my camouflage and go sit in the woods for a bit with my trusty .30-06 and see what comes along.

Well, that's it for me, gonna head to bed now.  Goodnight all!
