Well, LION, we will take the A/C out of the BR window now that it is getting to be a regular thing to get into t he 30s at night. TIme to box up and insulate the front LR A/C for the winter too. It is after all the end of November-ish. That was when we put the A/Cs to be last year. I believe this march/april we brought them out to working order....

***Jeffrey, I also have a similar model, but in N scale. It's still unassembled and now that I can use those Danbury Mint barns, I'll probably end up selling it on the-bay next year.
Just put out a round bale and it looks like thunderstorms will be rolling in tomorrow night. Tomorrow evening, I'll tie a tarp over the hay so it doesn't get soaked and mold set in. For cows it doesn't matter, but that's a good way to make horses sick. Don't want that.
I went out earlier to retrieve my trash cans (four days late but there's no time limit here) and I somehow dislocated my right thumb. I've always been double jointed so that's probably the answer. Since I can't feel the pain from it I had no problem popping it back in place. It's not swollen so I didn't do any lasting damage. This is one of the big dangers of severe neuropathy. You can break the bones and an infection can set in before you know what's happening. That's what happened with my right foot. By the time I knew anything was amiss it was too late. The damage had been done. It's been a slippery downhill slope ever since where one step forward can turn into three steps back. I've been slowly sliding down that slope ever since. Ever had a MRSA infection? You don't want to. I've had two and I nearly didn't survive one of them.
WEll, well well, I see the diner hasn't picked up since I was last in.
I just popped in to say g'nite as it is about 2 hours form that time. but shutting down the computer now.

The last bunch of Boys Scouts have left the house (about an hour ago) and I am now in putting away mode. One of the 3 who came today finished the merit badge. The other two just didn't do all the required learning yet.... I'll see them in December to hopefully get them finished. I think 10 of the 15 Scouts have completed the Merit Badge to date and 5 still have to do one or two of the requirements. One of the Scouts here to day I fianlly told him that it was like pulling teeth from a crocodile to get the information out of him.
Me, "Tell me how a diesel - electric locomotive develops power?" Him, "It uses heat"....... Me, "OK, well, heat has something to do with with it, but I think we are looking for where the power comes from first." Him, "it burns fuel..." "What is the fuel put in to burn"? Him, "The fuel tank....." What I am looking for is the term "Prime Mover"... Then the generator, and finally the electric motors on the axles..... On the workings of Dynamic Braking after finally getting him to understand an electric motor can also be a generator....... I finally got up and pushed down the lever on my toaster on the counter and had him hold his hand above it..... He finally got the idea (after 20 minutes) and we moved on to the next requirement.... Most of them have come in better prepared. I do enjoy working with the Scouts on this merit badge. Hopefully they now have a much better knowledge of why they shouldn't mess around with trains.

Just got it back Thursday night. Didn't take a photo of the before.... Trust me, it looks a whole lot better now. Had it hanging on the front deck when the Scouts Arrived. It looks absolutely sweeeeeeeet after dark!

I glued down the frame for the mountain/tunnel and I plan on plastering it tomorrow. I bought 2 rolls of plaster cloth from Jo-Ann's today and with the 50% coupon is was about 40% off the price of WS plaster cloth.
Ray- That's a beautiful lamp. I was given a single yellow lamp Intermediate PL light. It needs a lot of work. One of the many things to do in the future.

Chad to the dinner! Yep, it seems we have a acronym for everything! Heck, it is worst than when I was in the Army. Far as my nice train work, if I only have time now. May have to hire a local to help build the coming bench.
Work Front Dang we where busy today! I went 8.5 hours before I got to take my break today! Boy I was starting to feel it, I only got off my feet for 15 minutes for the 8.5 hours.
Today I felt a little better about how I am doing. Had a coupe of good sales and figured out a few more things on the computer. Had a couple of good tickets and got some add on sales.
Had a little sit down with Dave after things settled down and he gave me a list of thing to work on. One of them was learning the acronym's, they are all on the sheet. I started to tell him that not all of them are on the sheet, but cut me off. (does that a lot) Told me "forget what the idiots in the other stores told you, they are on the list"! Hum. Dave Shawn told me (this store) I used the code for rotors, pads and caliper on the 2007 Toyota, I used the XP BR code listed on the sheet? Dave said "Yea, that is the only code on the sheet, it will mark a $30.00 set of pads up to $125.00 that should be $69.99". He then took the time to write out the none listed codes! No wonder I have not been able to sale a break job!
Again I am sorry I talk about is work. Right now it is all consuming to me. Well it was with the last job as well. Maybe once money (security) is no longer a worry I will have time to think about other things.
Todd While no date has been set, looks like I am about 2 weeks from coming up. When I come up, what do you want to do? Run trains, eat out, work on you Road Runner? My wife may want to tag a long.

Chad, to the Diner, and it looks like you might've been peeking in the window a little, since you mentioned a few things around here. What's your layout (or plans for same) like - era, specific RR line or freelancing, etc.)? Fill us in, and have a mug/glass of your favorite beverage on me.
Ken, I got a peek at some of your (multitude of) acronyms from w**k. Glad I don't have to learn all those.. Keep at 'em, and good to hear your legs and joints are holding up well.
Curt, love your layout pics (still)! On the tunnel/hillside, (just me speaking, mind ya) I'd add some more cardboard strips in between and try to keep 'em at about 2-3" apart. That, or make sure your plaster strips aren't overly moist when you put them on. Good to see you have all the nearby track taped over.
Ray, nice lantern there. I forgot where you got it - yard sale, or RR museum auction/extra? Looks very nice now.
Broadway, I will have to go back and check out your 'kitty-cat' photos. Is that NPR thing about your monastery on the NPR website where I could listen to it, I wonder?

We don't want any new trips to the hospital for you (nor any repeated trips to the doctor for new stuff).
Before my pager goes off, I'll quickly say that I've been doing some more w**k on the pine trees (and have a couple almost presentable; hope to get photos up tomorrow).
And speaking of tress, OzJIm - the SuperTrees kit is pretty good (for deciduous kind) - the local MRR club got the big box kit and we had a meeting or two of putting a bunch of them together. Check under Scenic Express's website for some more info, or the SuperTrees site. It helps if you have a garage or basement with a concrete floor that you can use for your w**kspace (easier to clean up after you're done...).
I'd best be going for now, and my apologies for everyone else I missed. I hope to get a little more caught up tomorrow after church.

Jim, thanks! It did come out nice... I got it from a neighbor of my sister's. The same guy who gave me the Whistle Post sign. When I got it it had clear plexiglass lenses in it and was dented in several places and had a lot of chipped paint. A friend out at the museum is a collector of lanterns and restores them. He did it for me at his cost. I decided to have it wired for an electric light rather than trying to find a working kerosine lamp to fit it.
I'm hoping the rain holds off tomorrow (they are predicting some showers) so I can mow the lawn for the last time and put it away for the year.
OK, trying to find steam turbines of the type used in early steam powered electric plants.... Do any of you have any idea where i might find such an animal? I don't care whether it is RTR or a Kit, but I need some things to fill up the inside of the Power plant.

Good to See both Jims in today. I ditto the opinion on the Scenic Express trees. I had some on the layout and we got the gialnt economy kit for the museum displays and they are just awesome.
Ray - you sound very patient. In the old days of the empire we had the tests at the end of the merit badge program and I don't remember anyone giving more than one chance with the possible exception of starting a fire with two sticks (one of which could not be a match).
Got to spend some time on the layout tonight cleaned up more track and changed out a PECO turnout that was coming apart and wouldn't be fixed. Still haven't decided what to do in the back corners. Hide the sharp corners with tall buildings or use a radius filler piece and mold it in. Currently tall buildings are in the lead.

I know that one fellow up here ended up using a boiler from an old 0-6-0 porter that he had lying around and built something akin to a Corliss generator type thing from there..

Well Ken, the layout is in turmoil since I haven’t touched it in a long while, but you are more than welcome to see what there is of it. The Roadrunner is in turmoil as I haven’t been able to touch it either. It too is almost buried with stuff, but you are more than welcome to see that too. Just letting you know, I will not “straighten things up”. I have no room to put everything. Mom’s evacuation sure did load us up with a BUNCH of stuff I tell you what. Not many girls wear halter tops anymore so the mall is out, but we can get something to eat, I always up to eating now that I have time. Besides, I’d like to get that 40 lbs back I lost in the last 2, 3 years ago. That was my goal this year. Hasn’t w**ked out that way. Maybe New Years resolution for next year. Anyway, I’m not picky. One thing however, at some point we are heading to Texas for a weekend getaway. We will return NLT Tuesday afternoon. Now it's tentatively scheduled for this coming weekend, but she has made no further mention since day before yesterday. Only thing she talks of now is…..
Replacing the floors in the hallway, both bathrooms, the Kitchen/Dining room and the Living room. So far. The three bedrooms he will think about. Nice of her. Picked out the flooring yesterday so it looks like I have a winter project now . Hey at least it's home and not somewhere else to travel to. Wake up *poof* on the job.

J.R., LOL I remember the 2 sticks one very well... I could handle THAT one just as long as the other stick could be a match.... A lot of the "fun" that used to be had (at the expense of a new Scout) is now labeled hazing and is now a no-no. I had several of those from Camp Brule back when I was the camp director there. Some of my favorites... Send a scout down to the waterfront and bring me back 50' of Shoreline from Denny the Aquatics Director, ask the scout to get the left handed smoke shifter, and one I used on a young Scout who had become a pest around the office as he hung around there rather than going to his classes and activities. Please go up the the Rifle Range (other end of camp) and ask Chet (Shooting Sports Director) for the rifle report.... Kid did exactly what I asked. Got rid of him for about an hour, then he was back sitting on the front porch of the main building again. I asked him if he got it for me. He was grinning from ear to ear. Said, "Yep"! Told me Chet at first couldn't figure out what I wanted, then went to the lock up for the rifles, took one out and, went on the range line, aimed, and fired a round at a target. Then he put the rifle away and just grinned. Today I would made sure the camp nurse who was an RN that worked in the Psych Dept. at the hospital was working with the kid to find out why he just wanted to hang around at headquarters all day. Guess I know more now.......
Barry, thanks for looking! I have found and ordered a couple of large stationary boilers for inside the building, but can't even find any photos of steam turbines used in 1920s generation plants. I can find water turbines for early hydro, but not one for what I am building.....

Getting chores done and catching up on three weeks of laundry. Need to do a HD run later and get some bits for the house and check out the battery drills before the CFO wipes out my antique Makita.
Ray - the early steam turbines resemble demented bee hives with the generator perched on top. Once you have boilers and pipes, could you use one from a model boat? The massive turbines from a carrier or battleship might scale out well enough to use. How about some of the flat car loads? After you reduced the size of the power house I'm not really sure how big a unit you need. The ones I dimly remember seeing were mostly covered in pipes and valves and the power generators themselves weren't all that big. Don't know if that helps.

Howmus: Nice pranks to play on the scouts and they're good harmless fun, not like a lot of what goes on nowadays. I worked in electronics for the power company and we'd always send a trainee to the stores dept. for something outrageous like a wire stretcher (there were more things but that's the only one I remember). The storekeeper was the biggest joker of them all and he'd send the trainee on one fruitless search after another through the shelves and bins. Would keep him busy for a half hour before the storekeeper would tell him, "Sorry, I just remembered we're all out. They're on back order." We could always depend on the storekeeper to carry through on our pranks even without a heads up. Even sending a trainee for a legitimate part we never knew what he might do to the trainee. It's amazing how gullible some of those trainees were.

Hello gang! Hope this finds everyone in a good mood today. I just tried to put up my outdoor Christmas lights. Tested both strings. Both owrked. I lost a bulb in each as I was wrapping them around the porch railings and then broke the sockets on them when I thought I was using the correct replacement bulbs, only to find out they are too big and split the sockets open.
Anyways, enough of my ranting. Time to
