Good Evening, Janie - what's this I hear about we have squirrel on the menu now? Oh, just a misunderstanding, I see. Whistling Okay, I'll have the broiled salmon with asparagus and a baked potato and a glass of one of your fine Finger Lakes wines, please. Thanks! Dinner

Breezy outside today, but at least it wasn't as cold as it was Veterans' Day morning. (Brrr!!) Still a bit cloudy on the way here this evening.

And Ulrich, a little bird told me there's something afoot come January 1st in your life. 'Nuff said (except perhaps: YAHOO!!!) (Maybe you can start looking at possible  log cabin designs in the next couple of years to figure out what you might have in mind....)

Barry, nice picture of that (as Garry called it) 'streetcar', but I was having trouble seeing the catenary on it... Smile, Wink & GrinThumbs Up And you're kinda jumping the gun on that white stuff, even for up thataway, aren'tcha?

Broadway, I've just looked over your website for the layout(s) - awesome, and inspiring what you have done there! Thumbs Up I would guess that you might have a reputation for... - whimsy, yeah that's it! - at your w**kplace there. Whistling

Garry, I REALLY like what you've done with your downtown area by the station there. YeahBow Great photo of it (with your E7 there). Thumbs UpThumbs Up

Jeff, your Sundown shops people (I think) can do just about anything they set their minds to do, whether it's repairs, paint re-dos, or whatever. Bow Good to see you were able to get that turnout replaced (and hope you didn't wind up with aches and pains as a result of doing it)

Rob, keeping your heat (and other) situation(s) in my AngelAngel. Good that you got the well house job taken care of. How're the goats doing? Any more sign of the coyotes lately?

NittanyLion, you have made my day - I now can justify pretty much ANY length of train, it appears! Y'think they have enough power on that train?Smile, Wink & Grin

Ken, that 'pay card' thing's a new one to me with your payday. Wonder why they don't just do the direct deposit thing (must be some kind of benefit$ to it for the company, I'd guess).

Curt, Todd and others - you've just confirmed to me (even though I don't have a wife) just a couple more reasons why I do NOT (EVER) want to have a Facebook page/account/stalking page....Laugh See here...for a chuckle on THAT topic. Smile, Wink & Grin As for that tweetie thing, I always thought that was for those with attention deficit (or else just plain ol' impatience), and most stuff I hear about that people 'chirp' about, isn't that significant to me, let alone to anyone else (but that's just my opinion on that one). Oops

And Curt? You (and Garry, and Ray, and... (okay, I won't keep going with all of you Diners and your fine layouts, it'd wind up being a page by itself, I think) - you can keep those layout photos coming. Thumbs Up

Ray, yeah, sometimes I 'toot' also, but I thought that was why they call our age a bunch of old f****s..Whistling

DerJohn - good to hear from you, even if you're not making any more progress than I've been. Hope you get the housepainting (the model one, that is...) done before you have to get the CFO tomorrow.

Speaking of what passes for layout progress in my parts o' the world, before I swung by this evening, I trimmed some of the caspia stems back so they would fit in a box lid I had. Less mess than the huge cardboard sheet they were on when I spray-painted them (and since then, until tonight). Hope to see about adding more branches to the pine tree I posted pics of in here. Maybe I'll even get another pine tree going tomorrow after church. Y'never know for sure... Wink Oh, and on the conifer foliage I said I was gonna look for some finer version of? After some looking in past and this year's W-S product catalog, I have found that they don't make anything size-wise, other than coarse. So I may try to crumble/trim some of the foliage to a smaller size before I start adding the foliage to the caspia 'branches'.

Prayers for a warm (enough) night and a good night's rest (especially for those having difficulties in that department), as well as for comfort and for some MRR'ing time this weekend. AngelAngel

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

 Evening Fellow Dinners!

Flo, T Bone Medium, Brussels Spouts, Tender of Onion Rings and a Beer please!

Work Front Today was the best day I have had so far! While I am far from knowing everything I am no longer a complete idiot. Dave (Mgr) and Shawn are starting lighten up around me and are starting to kid me. So I am kidding back with them.

Starting to be more relaxed around the customers, and me personally is showing through and sales are getting better now that I am more confident.

Had a older lady come in today, guess she was around 45 to 55 age range. She told me her tires where not that old and she thinks her car is out of alignment. I asked her why she thought that? She said that over 80 MPH the car starts to shake, why do I think the car is shaking? I told her THE CAR IS SCARED! Whistling Everyone at the counter busted up! She even thought it was funny! Laugh

Well, I am in good sprites, but the 10 hour day did take it toll and I am starting to fad. See you all Sunday.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me at the moment.

I am waiting on the final page of the Lake Shores Limited (Division newsletter) to print.

Nighty Nite, Galaxy!  Sleep Tight!  Don't let the Bed Bugs Bite!!!

I got a letter in today's mail from my doctor.  'twas the results of last Monday's blood work.....  Said:  "Your electrolites were within normal limits.  Your kidney function - normal, blood sugar - normal, liver function - normal, blood count - normal, PSA - normal (0.47),  Total cholesterol 145, HDL was 45, LDL was 75, triglyceride - 122, A1C was 5.6......

Wonder whose blood they used?  Probably will get run over by someone on my way to the doctor's appt. Monday!  I also got my new Medicare card (switching to my own SS this month) in today's mail.  I will have to find out about my other insurance cards that had my wife's SS # listed as the card link Monday before I hand them all in to the Medical people.......???

Ken....?????  "Older Lady"???  45 to 55????  Older lady?  I consider that age to be to young for me!  Oh, trying to make points with the CFO around his house.  I get it...

Der, good to see you sir.  i miss your post in here.  Don't be a stranger!

Doubt I will get here tomorrow morning as I have to be on the road way earlier than I am usually even up to drive to Batavia for the show....  Tomorrow evening is my DIL's birthday party.  I'll stop by before bed....

Catch you all later!

Hey all.  Just stopping in before I go extract my girls from the tub.  I have been a lazy Eddie....I haven't done a thing with ANY of my MRR stuff in the past week or more.  Think that I'm going to rectify that tomorrow as I have to w**k all day (10+ hours), so there will obviously be some spare time for me to put the axles in my Dash 8 and whatever else i can come up with.

I've been working on a "wish list" of stuff from MB Klein.  Think I might even make one for Walthers and like too, that way I can get most of what I want.  Going to print them out and distribute to all those that wish to procure things for me for Christmas.  Hopefully I'll come away with a sizable MRR haul for the holidays.

Well, its been an hour since I started this post, the girls are bathed and in bed, guess I might want to get on the ball myself with my wish lists and see what all i can come up with.

I think I'll have a large hot fudge and caramel sundae please, and I'll hang out here in the window booth and watch the night sights.

evening

Well, today was something else. Took a friend riding, only to stop about noon because I looked at his quad's front wheel while he tilted it to the side, may be me, but if I can move a wheel out and back an eighth of an inch, that worries me. Ken, whatta think?

Of course the kid bought this quad for $650, makes me wonder what's wrong with it. Well..

All the bearings are bad,

chain kept hopping off the sprocket today, turns out the back bearings are shot and make the back axle track off true

plastics are shot,

no back grab bar or taillight (previous owner broke it off)

and of course, my favorite, the frame's starting to rot out. It's not bad YET, but Ken, Jeff, and all you car guys can attest to the fact that once rust sets in, you got problems.

Need to redeck my trailer. while loading quads today, punched a hole through a patch on the deck and almost punched another on when unloading.  talk about scary.

Urlich-Congrats on the change

Ken- Good luck on the job, That car was scared? I don't think scared's the wordLaugh

slice of rhubarb pie if you will be so kind Zoe, thanks

If you can read this... thank a teacher. If you are reading this in english... thank a veteran

When in doubt. grab a hammer.

If it moves and isn't supposed to, get a hammer

If it doesn't move and is supposed to, get a hammer

If it's broken, get a hammer

If it can't be fixed with a hammer... DUCK TAPE!

GOOD MORNING!!!

Today is Sunday, November 13th, 2011!!!

Hi

Here we are guys and dolls, In the handy state of Texas, and I can only find that many, at least steam, tourist railroads are nto running this week or weekend! They are running NEXT weekend, but maybe we will have moved on. Texas is big so maybe not. Lots to see. WE Might even drop in on Jeffrey Wimberly, If he'll have us in the next week, so he can show us Ezra's house/gas station himself! only three in the trailer at a time!!

Of course, I am trying hard to find some STEAM excursions, but Polar Express  Runs start everywhere NEXT weeekned OR AFTER Thanks Giving!

Here is a list for your perusal:

The great state of Texas:

http://governor.state.tx.us/ecodev/business_research/maproom/txmaps/pop_maps

Rail tourist sites:

http://www.texasstaterr.com/about.php

http://www.museumoftheamericanrailroad.org/

I will see what I can come up with for side trips the next few hours or so for "friendly side excursions" so we can SEE the great State of Texas While we are passing through!!!

Hope it isn't too burnt up!!! Crying

Have a GREAT day!!

Good Morning Gang!

Another clear but cold day here in northern Germany. Today´s temperatures will just scratch on the freezing mark, signs of a long and cold winter being ahead of us.

Galaxy - so it´s Texas now. Texas is just about the size of Germany, if not even a little bigger. Can you figure 82 million people living there? It is way too crowded in my country.

Jim - that log cabin by a lake will remain an unfulfilled dream of mine, although I might be able to w*rk on that red pick-up truck. For which I would have no use in my country ... Whistling

Bama - same here! After all the enthusiasm in recent months to be able to do some serious MRRing, I seem to have entered the doldrums right now. I just cannot get my act together and go to our local home improvement place to buy all the components for the shelf I need. Putting up the shelf has to be the next step, before I can continue on the next module. So who volunteers to give me that kick in my lower back to get started on it?

John - good to see you here in the diner. Do stop by more often.

Ken - older lady at 45 to 55? Don´t let Petra hear that. She´ll be turning 54 in a few months, but she is still the young girl I married 27 1/2 years ago. Older lady - that´s my mom at 83.

Curt - that´s a very nice video you have done! I very much like the viewing angle being close to track level.

BL ROAR - Thumbs Up for the wiring w*rk. Not my cup of tea, so anyone who´s got the patience to do such in neat job deserves my respect.

Rob - Soylent Green Plant. Is that what I think it is? Actually that movie kindled my liking for classic music.

Went through my December MR copy yesterday and could not get my eyes of Mike Dannemann´s N scale Rio Grande layout. I have never seen a snow scene looking so realistic before. I wish I had his space and funds to do something like it.

Mia´s: Where is Chris?

Zoe, I´ll have a big Sunday breakfast, that´s a stack of hot cakes, maple syrup, sausages, bacon, fried eggs, sunny side up, a glass of OJ, buttered toast and  lots of coffee, please.

CUL & have a good one!

Good Morning!! Coffee and the Sunday Buffet please. Thanks.

Partly sunny, with a high near 66. Breezy, with a south southwest wind between 15 and 25 mph, with gusts as high as 41 mph. When it’s nice out it’s always windier than all git out. Sigh

Well it’s 0400 as I start this. Went to bed at 2230ish and have been up since 0104. Starting to get a bit tired again, maybe a nap is in order.

I’m getting real itchy to get in the old train room, aka “Toddland” (where I’m king) for you newer guys not familiar. Still have some outside stuff needs done before winter sets in.

Though I love it, looks like I won’t be frying a turkey this year for Thanksgiving (can’t believe THAT’s only a week and a half away) which I’m glad. Kinda sorta. This'll be the first time in what, fifteen years without frying a turkey? Only a ham. Frying would mean I’d have to get Brenda’s car running so’s I can pull it out to fry (turkey, not the car). Otherwise it’d have to be done outside and me and outside don’t get along well if it’s cold out. Who knows. She was running around all over the reception last night inviting people we didn’t know but claimed were family to get in the reception, to dinner so it may change. My wife? Change plans? Naaaaaah. Never! I think she’s gonna post it on Facebook Laugh.

Been told we have til December 3rd or something to clean up the house. (nodding head) yup. That oughta be interesting considering the big no place else for Mom leftovers and such. Why? Well, seems as though she has booked a Pampered Chef partySad. You know the door to…Zip it!...wait. I remember making my standard description, as I do about just about everything sold at these party things, about some jewelry and touching home base with Inch’s wife (Mother to you new folks). EmbarrassedStuck my foot in my mouth there, so I’ll just say it’s kitchen stuff that though not cheap, like the jewelry is nice stuff. In case anyone is affiliated with the sale of Pampered Chef. I personally just don’t see the “worth the price” side. But then again I'm a, "one cast iron skillet, if it's big enough, from the farm store is all you need" kinda guy. But many do and for that….we havin a shindig... without the.... shins.. I suppose. Or is it the digs. Oh well, they cook as a demonstration. Better than the candle parties, they just smell up the house.

Today is moving day. Must move out of the old truck and into the new. Gonna hate to see the old gal go. If I’m lucky, I’ll get to see it cause a guy at the elevator wants it. We’ll see how it goes when it’s time to pony up the cash. Anybody who’s heard “How much you want? When you wanna sell that thing let me know. I’ll take it!” Prior to it being for sale knows what I mean. Sadly the trans is howlin goin backerds and is startin to shift a bit strange so I’m afeard some tranny work is in order. Course it’s been doin that for two years with no ill effects on driving or anything, so…Whistling...maybe it’ll be fine. He knows all about it.

Welp, can’t say best get a movin at 0430ish, so I’ll just say….can’t think of much else to say right now. Maybe I’ll try to get in a nap before I have to get up. ( sounds like Uncle Joe on Pettycoat Junction Laugh)

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good Morning..

Todd: I read the last few posts to Audrey about the 'incident' with the secret admirer...she howled!! Mind, we had summat happen to me a few years back. Whistling There would be a race to the phone everytime the phone rangConfused And, once, Audrey caught who she thought ws the secret admirer..turned out to be our financial advisor...Laugh...the so-called 'secret admirer' was actually our next door neighbours down the road...after we did the cottage garden look to our front yard....they loved it...Whistling

Well...turns out to be a dull dull dull day with the ever popular chance of rain be fallin' on our'n heads here..going up to 63F...

I don't know about you guys but I'm wondering if'n the doldrums might not be because it is kind of dull as well...still have enough outdoor activity to do here to keep me occupied...Whistling..at least that is what Audrey keeps telling me....Confused And I have all kinds of Christmas decoration to do..and...and...and..and....Black Eye

So, Flo, I'll just have a coffee for now please..I'll be at the window booth waiting for whatever brightness might come here...

Morning (I think) Fellow Dinners.

 Flo Diet Dew Please.

Reason I said older Lady between 45 to 55 is because you would think woman that age would have speeding out of there blood by now. She looked like a grand mother, so I was surprised by the statement.

Well, nothing to say this morning, I will drop in after work.

You haven't met my older sister. She drives a Honda Civic Si with a six speed. It has 140 on the speedometer and she's been past that. Riding with her can be like a three ring circus! And she wonders where her kids got it from.

Poor Ken´s getting a beating for calling a 45 year old an "older woman" Smile, Wink & Grin

I have met gals much younger that that, maybe not looking like a grandmother, but certainly acting that way. I find it interesting how many younger folks act and behave "old". My son always complains that I may look old, but I am still as crazy as he is (well, sometimes).

You bet I am proud of that!

Chloe, time for coffee & cake. Petra is watching the Malaysia GP on TV. I don´t fancy grown men racing their cars roundy-round, so I rather spend my time thinking of my next module.

I got it right off the bat Ken.

OldER lady, as in NOT youngER, but NOT yet oldEST lady.

I belong in that age group as her. And yes, while I may entertain the "3-5 MPH over the speed limit" at times, and go what the consensus of drivers is doing at a given time on a given road, I DO have 'speeding" out of my system now.
AND I allow for extra time everywhere I go. SO does MOH.

WE also rarely listen to the raido if we are together so we CAN HEAR what the OTHER IS SAYING WITHOUT SHOUTING. But if Alone, often we may have it on low volume. If you told me when i was 22 I would not listen to it without it "cranked up", I would have picked a fist fight with you!!!

Sheesh.

My goodness!

Sigh

Welp, got a good 20 minute napSigh.

Ken- You ain't seen Brenda drive (can't tell you how old she is because, well you know, but she is within that rangeWhistling). Acts like evry drive is a race. On the highway, the speed limit is for those who can't drive well and for those who can, there seems to be this built in, unremovable idea that the Troopers won't pull you over if it's under a certain amount over and something about so much over that is more than likely a warningTongue Tied.   In town you feel like you're in a NASCAR race. Can't stand to be behind anyone it seems. And when she is in a hurry....white knuckle time. Then there's her twin sister.....looks like a blonde Barney Oldfield all hunched up over the steering wheel with that right foot to the floor. Makes Brenda look tame. Me....let's say I usually allow plenty of time to get to my destination. No need to hurry and the speed limit is just that. A limit. Not as some feel, a requirement. They call me "Pokey Joe".

Coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

***Ulrich, the famous line from the movie was: "Soylent Green Is People". Is that the same movie you are thinking of? In HO scale, it would be easier to replicate the trucks used in that movie, too.

***Garry, always liked that junk yard. Great scene!

I'll be in a corner booth awhile.

With nothing else more meaningful to do, I did some research on my family´s genealogy. Idid not only find the family coat of arms (see my avatar), but also ran into this:

Now we know for sure that one of my grandfather´s cousins emigrated to the US. Did I just find his grave?

Interesting Question

Good morning. It's 65° and mostly cloudy. The high will be 78° and it will be partly cloudy later today. The wind is from the SSE at 8 mph.

Nothing much planned for today. I may get a start on ballasting  the new turnout and adjoining straight track sometime during the day. I have to dig the jar of ballast out of the closet first and that can sometimes be like an archaeological expedition. The deeper I dig the more 'lost' things I find. One day I even found my army discharge papers and my high school diploma.

I belong in that age group as her. And yes, while I may entertain the "3-5 MPH over the speed limit" at times, and go what the consensus of drivers is doing at a given time on a given road, I DO have 'speeding" out of my system now.

The fastest I drove was 91 mph between Richardton and Bismarck (75 miles). If there were any cops on our route (there were not--State Patrol is NOT a 24/7 operation) they would have just pulled over to the side and let us by, just like the law requires.

feh...the fastest I drove was in a 1970 Hurst Olds 442 waaaaaayy back in 1972...the 401 at 4am in the morning was just dead..no one was around. I got the little beastie up to 140mph ...between Woodstock ON and the K-W area..Kitchener-Waterloo area for those of you not used to abbreviations....

Now, if we be talking dragstrip.....7:458 at 147mphWhistlingMischief

There was/is(? not sure if she still drives now or what) an 'older' lady here who had been clocked at around 125mph in a 2003 Honda Accord recently....

Some 10 years ago, while I was "enjoying" my mid-life crisis, I had one of these toys:

The fastest I ever drove it on the Autobahn was about 185 mph. I tell you, that´s fast.

Edit: ... and that was still legal!
