 Evening Dinners

Flo, I will pay for a round and a beer for myself. To Tiff, a Perfect Pup.

Thanks again folks. I am holding up pretty well, but Sue is not. Time will heal, and it just been 24 hours as I post this.

Today has been my lowest stress day in some time. Don't have to worry about getting a job, losing the house, paying the bills or Tiff. (did miss hearing her bark when we came home) Got some needed Honey Do's done.

I start work Sunday in St Charles counting 22,000 tires, well it is work. Good chances I will be getting the Fairview Heights Store! Only 9.4 miles from the house. For now, life is good for a change!

Getting ready to button up the SD40-2 and play with the trains.

Evenin' Folks!

I'll have the Schweinebraten and a stein of your finest dark beer for dinner.

Barry, that is great news!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh.......  Feels good to sit and relax for a few minutes.  If the trains all run well, I may get everything done....!!!  All I have to finish to have the house more or less (OK, less) cleaned is to vacuum the rug in the dinning room/office, move a few things around, and clean off the top of the dinning room table.

Then I am going to run trains.  Amazing the amount of accumulated  cobwebs and dirt you can get on the lights and stuff around the layout!  I will sleep well tonight!

Back to it!

Evening All,

Today I put together a couple of details for the layout, a stack of rusted rails and a stack of RR ties. They will end up on the addition when it is done. Speaking of the addition I drew out the plan on the plywood 1:1.  The existing engine house will move to it along with a concrete coaling tower, TT and RH. The RH will sit almost 90 degrees to the 2 approach tracks to the TT. I will also have a steel water tank. It also looks like I will have 4 or 5 spare tracks coming off the TT. The goal is to have all not currently running loco's stored on the addition. I think I will build the bench work after the first of the month.

Everyone take care.

Howdy.

Curt ... Nice trackside detail you made.

Barry ... I'm glad your appointment went well.

Ken .... I bet you do very well in your new job.

I did here from Rob. Fortunately some out of town family could be with him and help him with stuff. He is entering a very tough time for him. I am reminding him that all the "Diners" care about him.

Evenin' folks!

Just a decaf for me.....

I think I have gotten the entire list done....  I hope....  Maybe?  Place actually looks , ah, livable.  Yep, livable.

Ran all the trains I plan to use tomorrow.  My Athearn Mike I was planning to use on the head of a unit train of reefers decided it would fall off the rails, stop and start with no apparent reason, and was running like the piece of crap that it is (I have come to have very little love for Athearn products.....).  So after wasting  ten minutes trying to improve its performance, I side tracked it and hooked on my second Bachmann 2-6-6-2 which ran like a charm.  My Proto 2000 0-6-0 was running poorly as well (most likely needs lubrication - long overdue) but she will not be in service tomorrow.  I was just running her from one part of the layout back home to Hopewell yard.  All the locos and cars took the new loop up at the Quarry beautifully (except fore the Mike which wasn't taking anything well....) so I think we should be set to run some trains tomorrow!

I also hope everything I need for the meet's morning session is packed already in the car.

So, since I have to be on the road 2 hours before I usually get out of bed. I will call it a day.  See you all tomorrow night!

Morning all.  Just stopping in before I head off to sleepy land.  I have to be at w**k in a few hours, so I might as well get some shut eye.  First thing in the morning I've got to complete the check on a Dodge Neon that has a possible neutral safety switch gone bad.  You hit the key and get nothing, and there's no power going to the small wire on the starter, so....gotta do some wiring chasing and testing before condemning parts.  Then I have to go to w**k till around 430pm.  Who knows what I'll be doing after that, but I'm sure that I'll swing in here.

Ken: Sorry to hear of your loss of Tiffany, you did the right thing though.

Well, talk to y'all later.  Later taters!

Good Morning Folks,

while we are enjoying today´s trip to the little village of Oybin in the Zittau mountain region, I am making plans for the coming days.

Tomorrow, a train will take us to Cranzahl, where we will change trains to go to Oberwiesenthal, a quite famous skiing resort with lots of snow in winter.

I hope you have all got warm gear with you, as this place is one of the coldest spots we have in Germany.  Pretty good chance we will see some snow there.

Before heading north towards Berlin, we will go to Chemnitz, where we will spend a day in the Saxonian Railroad Museum.

Have a good day!

Good morning... perhaps a shot of night medicine before finally hitting the rack.Drinks

First though: CUDAKEN: I was saddened to hear about TIFF, and sorry it has taken so long to express this. I can't even think about thinking about the day I'll have to face THAT decision with my RERUN. He has gotten a lot of extra hugs and treats since I heard about this. Others have already said it, I'll join them. You did not only the right thing, but the loving thing.

A belated welcome to: MR. DISPATCHER, THAYNE, and THE LION

MR. LION: I saw your CTC machine photos tacked up elsewhere in the forums...THAT is some incredible w**k right there!YesBow

ULRICH: Why is it THAT Germany looks like one gigantic advertisement for Kodachrome???

CURT: I'm really liking the rail stack. Nice touch with the bare (un-rusted) ends where the track gang would've made the cuts.

JEFF: Your shot of the geep through the trees is very close to a shot I got on the CNW Cedar Rapids line some years back. Of course, now I can't find it.

*Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn*

Too tired to ramble on much more, gonna go attempt unconsciousness, have the final football game of the 2011 season for my Clear Creek Amana Clippers to process later today. Will also have to do something with my Iowa City West High Trojans since they upset the top team in their half of the Mississippi Valley Conference. Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd, will have to do something with a CCA freshman who placed third in regional cross country, earning a trip to the State Meet.

Who ever said the weekend was a time of rest?

Good night/good morning, thoughts and prayers to all in need, as always.

Well, I guess the real reason is the country´s great variance in landscapes in a small country, making it to a fairy tale land.

Good Morning!! Coffee and some strudel please. Thanks.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 67.

Ken- Glad the job came through and the stress level is dropping.

Got a phone call from the Title searching companyyesterday about 3pm. Lady told me to stop worrying, they found everything they need way back to 1894 and there are no problems. Funny how things turn around in just a day. It now appears the closing will take place somewhere, sometime on the 31st of this month. I still have a few tiny things to get out of the house but that should wait as I have blown a wheel cylinder on the rr of the truck. When? Thursday right, and I mean RIGHT before the phone call to go into Springfield of courseSigh. I just stabbed the pedal a few times until the brake light came on showing the proportioning valve set crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. Or the emergency brake is onHmm. Didn’t think of that. Now I only have front brakes. First thing I do is fix the truck, that shouldn’t take very long, of course the brake line will prove to be an issue because…I have no way into town until the truck is running…er stopping. I suppose I could just hobble it in if I have to. I just don’t like driving with ANYthing wrong with the brakes.

Best get moving, I also have a few tings to do to the old fitty six fowd too.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

 Morning All!

Flo, Lemonade and what Lion is having. Yes, I want it cooked!

Again thank you all on the comments about Tiff. I just hope is feeling a little better today. Yesterday she was a wreck.

Gary Glad Rob has is family there for support.

Ulrich Thanks again for the great pictures. Best dinner month so far!

Got the SD 40-2 button up and getting ready to give her a test run. Then on to the Cursed SD 50. I did buy original RTR motor for it from K-10. I ordered it before I ordered the Helix Humper Motors. With it being a special order, I felt like I need to go ahead and buy it.

Got to get the plants inside for the winter, man I hate having them in the garage! It is 35 degrees last night, so it is time.

Sues SSI, I wish she never got it! It has been nothing but a pain in my caboose! She can only get it if I am working or Not Receiving Unemployment or make less than $2100.00 in a moth if I am working. When I lost my job August we did not know if I was going to get any unemployment benefits. So Sue called SSI and she was sent a check for September for $674.00. I did not get my unemployment till September 15th. Well, they now want it back! Sue spent the money so guess who has to pay it back? Bang Head She just brought out a stack of paper work out that I have to scan then help her fill it out. Great, more Honey Do's!

  See you all later.

Good morning. It's 56° and partly cloudy. The high will be 87° and it will remain partly cloudy.

Nothing much planned for today except getting the junk cleared off the layout. It built up pretty thick during all the project work that was going on. When it got to the point that I was having trouble keeping track of tools I knew something had to be done. I got a good start on the clearing last night and I could actually see the track. The mess is down to 1/10th of what is was. I'm going to have to make some kind of shelf to put the tools on.

Morning All,

MOH just made me French Toast for breakfastDinner. I'm going to try to shoot another video in a bit (play with lighting). I watched a 5 part video from a Pennsy modeler last night that was a coal drag with 2- I1sa's in the front and 2 in the back pushing. The modeling and weathering was superb. He had also spliced in actual historical video footage of the area being modeled.

Later today I'm going to the club. Sunday afternoon I picked up 8 hours of OT (1600-2400).

I found out yesterday from 2 different people that the new hire I will be working with had a reputation at his previous EMS job as a snitch. GreatGrumpy.

A couple of people have posted  about temps in the 30's. It was in the 50's this morning and I thought it was cold. Being in the 30's here is infrequent and in the coldest part of winter.

Jeff- nice photos. I really like the converted RR coach. Is it a diner now?

Sue- I have been to Bangor 2 times back in the 90's. It was during October. It was cold, foggy, and rainy but the area is drop dead beautiful. I loved all the deer, and the harbor seals that would lay on the camels between the sub and the pier.

Chris- You give me too much credit.

Everyone take care.

Yes, it is. It was a gift from a member here. It's a from Campbell Scale Models called Donna's Diner. The kitchen on the rear of mine appears to be scratch built.

According to postal tracking I should be getting a package today. It's not much. Just two Tyco boxcars and a Tyco Dutch Cleanser hopper in various states of disrepair. They'll give me something to work on, kitbash, whatever. Considering I only paid $7 including shipping it seemed a good price for project material.

Like Jeffrey, a do-nothing day for me.

I have to recover from all my "works" this past week.

I do have to run the DW.

With the nerve endings fried, I feel less pain, and so now I  have to watch what i do, or how much of it I do. The left side is there to remind me hard that it has not been done yet. 2 weeks for that. The right side is about 75% without pain. That is far better than before.

Have a great day!

Good Afternoon Folks,

the sun is slowly setting and the temperatures are falling rapidly. It is slightly below freezing where we are right now. Chances for a little bit of snow are fairly good for our tomorrow´s trip into the Saxonian Ore Mountains region.

Time to quit chasing trains and rejoin in a nice little restaurant for dinner.

We have already covered quite a lot of the tour throughout Germany. What´s left?

  • Berlin, where we will spend a few days.
  • Rostock, where we will visit the Baltic Sea resort Warnemünde
  • The island of Rugen, where we will ride yet another narrow gauge steam train
  • Bad Doberan, riding the Molli train to the coast
  • Lübeck, taking a tour of the medieval city
  • Back to Hamburg, where a farewell dinner will be waiting for us.

Enjoy!

 Afternoon.

Flo, Hot Dog to go please.

Well got the SD 40-2 up and running, that engine is a pain to work on. First time out it made it 3/4 of the way around the layout then just stopped! Took it apart and found the decoder was not plugged in all the way. Put it back together, then found to top of the coupler box just disappeared?

Got to go to the post offices, K Mart and make a beer run.

Good Afternoon All,

Just finishing up in the shop before heading home. Had most of the crew in just catching up odds and ends so we can get things under control next week. I have a meeting tomorrow for most of the day so it's juggle chores time after I return home and no model train time until I'm caught up a little. Did spend some time noodling out the second level elevated track (the New Haven uses mostly cut block with plate girder bridges for overpasses over the streets). When I get the elevated section built back up I will move some of the streets to make the urban area a bit more believable and allow the return track to remain hidden. This should also allow me to make the urban station elevated as well as they are on the New Haven in most of the towns and cities on the main line. Only two main tracks though and not the four as in the prototype. There's just no room. Lions' pic previously gives you an idea of what I'm trying to do.

Curt - If the new person has a rep as a snitch and you are the new supervisor, best to have a chat first and let them know you expect problems they observe to be brought to you first. If you set the ground rules and expectations, you can save yourself a bundle of agro and maybe even convert the problem child into a truely useful engineSmile, Wink & Grin.

Hope the rest of you are having a good day, I'm on the way outa here and off home.     CUL, J.R.

Good afternoon everyone! I got up a little later than normal today. I got busy first thing today I sanded the drywall mud and put the third and I hope final coat of mud on the wall where I removed a window that was behind where my new layout will be.  I am taking a short break now then heading to home depot for some paint, primer and a few odds and ends.  I just started a week of vacation and my plan is to get my benchwork up. It is a beautiful fall day here in Utah. I am gonna keep going I will check in later. Hope you are all enjoying your weekend!

Good Afternoon..

Got some of the things needed done done..problem is that we encountered certain technical issues that seem to be rather stubborn here. So we decided ot call it a day and let the techs handle the issue....(in other words..our power went outGrumpy).

So I ended up getting a few more hours in on the layout and am now enjoying, yes, a sunny afternoon...out on my back deck...MischiefBig Smile

We had a few days worth of rain be falling on our'n heads and so my backyard now has a full scale lake again...shared between 6 homes here...

Chloe, I'll have a 46oz Porterhouse Steak with all the fixin's and a large RBF please..I'll be at the corner booth..DinnerMischiefWhistling
