Why are all you people going on and on about bulb changing in the first place. On MY railroad, we don't change bulbs at all. As a matter of fact, I've been using the same bulbs that I first started with, back in the 1940's. Some of the detail may not be as good as the more modern bulbs, but these older bulbs put out a LOT more light at the same dimmer setting, although they do use more current.

I think that all you younger fellas don't really understand how good you've got things now a days. Why, you can go down to the hobby store and pretty much get any bulb you'd like, right there at the store. Some of those bulbs are pretty much indistinguishable from the prototype, although smaller, of course. And if the hobby store doesn't have it, there's the Internet and e-Bay.

Years ago, we had to build our own bulbs. Until a few pioneers got together and started offering sand cast bulbs, there WASN'T anything that you could buy.

I installed a couple of bulbs on my layout. It didn't make the room any brighter, and a few months later two out-of-scale tulips grew out my hill...

Doesn't it matter whether the bulb is handheld or panel mounted, or if it uses IR/Radio technology? Not to mention if it's wireless! DCC is so complicated....[:p]

A Great way to lead into the holidays and "brighten" the way into the New Year!!!!!

As a reminder for the New Year, that "light" at the "end of the tunnel" may well be a train coming the oposite way.(See disclaimer above!!)

WOW! 246 members to change a light bulb! And then there's another 24 to debate if 100 watt is better than 60 watt, making a total of 270![:D]

That was toooooo funny! But you forgot the conspiracy theorists who think light bulbs don't emit light but rather suck darkness. After all, when you turn one off, darkness is left everywhere.........

That's rediculous. Such a light headed and dull idea.

Everyone knows that light bulbs suck in darkness! Jeesh...That's elementary. (Agree with me or be flamed...)[}:)][:p]

Can a Jacobs Ladder be a light bulb?

i had a light bulb experience a few days ago- i was sitting at the computer when the light in the ceiling fan went off for a second and then it came back- i didn't think nothing about it- then it happened again- i walked over to the wall shut the light off, reached up and the bulb was loose- tightened it & now it's fine- looks like it takes 100,001 to reconcile of a light bulb experience

You forgot to mention how many would recommend switching to LEDs, or how many would ask what kind of resistor to use if it's DCC or DC equipped......

Wow, so many replies. A trainload of laughs. I couldn't sleep so I started reading the thread and laughed like crazy. We need more replies relating to trains at least I think so. Just last week I saw two locomotives running light. [:)][:)][:)]

One time, I was playing with this light bulb...and uh...I was turning it on and off and on and off and on and off real fast-like, and yeah, it was like flashing on and off and on and off, and then, and then it went out...

WHY?[:p]

Oooh! Oooh! I can help with this one!

The proper term is LEAD lights, so please call them by their proper name. [:(!]
LEAD lights are made of lead, hence the name LEAD lights(duh). The electricity flows through the lead bulb creating heat, which by the way is an exellent way to keep them firmly possitioned in the locomotive. Be very carefull when handling them after extended use as they may become a little soft.

Anywho, as the name implies they do give off light, however I have found it to be a little too redish for my tastes. It takes a long time for them to actually give off any light, but after they "warm up" they do get pretty bright. They are cheap, so stock up on them. I'll let someone else go into the installation instructions. Well?

I heard a good one but it really doesn't transfer to model railroading well.

How many French (German, Chezchoslovakian, Canadian, Kentuckian, pick your target) climbers does it take to change a lightbulb?

Just one, he holds it in the socket and the mountain revolves around him.

A long time suspicion of mine has been proven by this thread. MODEL RAILROADERS ARE ALL NUTS!!!

Or is it the rest of the world that's nuts and we're the sane ones? How could you ever be certain?

Ok, since some ressurected this puppy in time for Christmas....that opens up a WHOLE new group of questions.....
Was the "light " in Rudolph's nose a bulb...or an LED?
Who was the dummy that invented "strings" of different colored lights....and then had the GALL to suggest the lights should be installed on roof eaves, not in lamp sockets.
How many elves does it take to change Rudolph's nose?
And those luminaria things they have in the SW states at Christmas time.....how many firefighters does it take protect a disply of THOSE puppies??

Merry Christmas to ALL!!
