Coffee in a SUNNY & SOUTHERN mug, please.

***Tom & Curt, enjoyed the layout progress pics. Keep 'em coming.

***Jeffrey, like the Mike. I didn't realize how bad (or absent) the feeling in your hands is. Yikes! Do be careful.

Couldn't remember, any of our Diners in the direct path of that storm?

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

 Evening Folks

Flo, well thank you and in a frosted Monon Mug yet.

Ray I think I am right by saying Congrats on getting your SS started. I think mine has been bumped up to age 109? Think partial is 62.5 and full is now 65?

ILL Department Of Human Services. OK, I meet a good caseworker today and luckily she ours. Hopefully will we start receiving aid next month. This one seemed pretty sharp, guess she has not been there that long. Did not have the dead eyes of a zombie like many we have met.

Rob Any news on your dad?

Lee I looked again on the link and did not find the need software, but thank you so much for the effeort.

Big Hook Seems the brakeman (that's me!) had a few to many beers. Forgot to throw a turnout and a E-6 powered passenger train rammed the rear of a parked freight train! Grumpy Jeffery I was test running your E-6 one last time before packing it up. It is still a brute, cleaned off 27 cars before I saw what was happening!

Printer Well, guess I am going to buy the same Cannon MP 250. Wally World has it for $28.00. The black ink cartridge was going to cost $21.00 to replaces and I need color as well. While it is a pain to use, having the scanner can be handy.

Ulrich Hope things are going well with Col Klink.

        See you all later.

The weather forecast I saw this morning said the high would be 97 today. Well that's shot to heck! The thermometer here says it's 106 out there, and that's WITHOUT the heat index. I got first degree burns on my hands driving my van back here from my parents place! I need to get one of those slip-on cloth and foam steering wheel covers.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I'll have the buffet tonight and you can bring me a cup of decaf to go along with THAT.  I'll order desert later.

Did some grocery shopping this afternoon.  Just had to pick up a couple items I needed before the main weekly trip to the store.  Also brought in the onions from the garden.  They were started close to a month later than they should have been so they are not as big as I would like, but they will do fine.  Pulled a lot of weeds around the parsnips while I was already kneeling on the ground next to them.  Weeds have grown very well this year!

Ken, I have been getting my wife's SS as a widow since I turned 61.  Little advertised fact that at the age of 60 a surviving spouse can qualify for the benefits.  I found THAT out from a fellow MR across the street in a place I don't frequent any more.  (Coffee is better here anyway.....)  I am taking mine a year early as the "Full" benefit would be at age 66 for me.  It is a bit misleading and rediculous anyway as if you keep putting it off up to age 70 you will get a higher amount. So full retirement benefit doesn't really mean much... Oh, and no I won't get both....  My wife's will stop and I will start getting about twice as much from my account.  I figure I will be able to now pay for some badly needed w*rk around my property and then save for a new set of hearing aids without having to take out a loan.  As I can, any amount left after bills will go into savings for me to use as I get older and costs go up. So I am very comfortable taking it a year "early"....  On your printer....  The Canon Printers (one "n" BTW, a Cannon goes boom, a canon takes pictures) are well known to w*rk one moment and not the next...  They don't seem to have a long service life.  I am on my second simply because they are the best imaging home printers out there.  For Photos they are simply awesome!

BYW, do any of you use a Canon Printer THAT uses the Chromalife 100 #8 inks?  I have a full box of 4 cartridges sitting here getting old (CMY & Bk).  I had just bought a package the day before my old printer 's time disconnect, or how many copies it can do, or automatic fail mechanism, made it go dead.  Contact me with conversations and I will ship them to you..... (first come, first serve)

Later!

Back for a RBF, and a salad, Chloe.  It seems quite in here this evening.

Larry is 1 hour away.  I am hoping that we will spend some time working on the staging yard this evening.

Evening Gang: And the heat goes on and on and on. It was 105 here today and is still in the upper 90s at almost 9pm. I'm really getting tired of the heat.

Mary Ann and I went out and bought another 380 gal stock tank for the cows down at the field behind the barn. The pond is still going down and is very yucky to boot. The cows do like to get in the middle and stand there. It is cooling for them and they don't mind the yuck.

Still no work on the MRR. We did go to Ft. Worth to the Borders Book Store since they are nearing there last days. 50% to 70% off everything. I picked up a couple of books from the history section again.

I just remembered that I haven't turned the water down to the new stock tank. Gotta run.

Have a good night everyone.

Good Evening, Chloe - I’ll have a bowl of chili with some grated cheese and onions on it and some of those oyster crackers, and a RBF in a Santa Fe mug (if you can fit it in one), please. Thank you, Ma’am!

Well, after swapping some things out related to the laptop, I decided that the problem isn't due to a bad sub-board in my laptop. More likely culprit(s) is/are: 1) the electric socket at the WiFi place was dead/malfunctioning, 2) the battery I had in the PowerBook isn’t holding a charge long, 3) its AC adapter is dying/dead, or all of the above. Put my other charger (the one I usually have charging the other battery in the semi-functional laptop at home) on the ‘puter this morning at the laundromat, and it charged up the battery/batteries (both of them - put the weak one in the 2nd bay and the better one in the main bay) all right. I have the other battery now at home in the 'other' PowerBook, and I'll see when I get home if it's charged up (which will either confirm or eliminate the charger as part of the problem).

Garry, a Happy 92nd Birthday to your Mom! She deserves a special cake for 92 years:

Todd, I hear you on the time thing about when you’re w**king an evening ‘shift’. I have my pager (set to vibrate only) on my belt 99 percent of my waking hours, and it’s set for about 15 minutes before I either A) need to get things together for leaving if I’m at the office, or B) need to be ready if I’m going on-call for that evening. In your case, you’d add whatever travel time to get to your restaurant, I’d guess.

Ray, better be careful about bad-mouthing T-H up NOTB here. Folks this way take their T-H VERY seriously, I hear. SurpriseWink  You reminded me, too - I (too) have some Canon/Canon-compatible CLI-8 printer cartridges (some are Canon, others are Staples generic for Canon), but I will have to check when I get home which colors and such that I have. There’re sitting on the dining room table at the moment, still in the original packages. I’ll post on those tomorrow in here.

Chris, I liked your CNW Geep there - (showing my lack of diesel identification skills...) which model of Geep is 4180? Until I checked the color or the top band, I almost thought (cough..cough..) it was an Uncle Pete one. (Ouch! HEY! Quit throwing things at me, Chris - I didn’t really mean THAT!  Ouch! - that’s gonna sting for a while...) Hey, I think it’s a hoot to read you saying that now...Canon is what the ‘big guys’ shoot with. Back when I had my photo studio (I used 2-1/4 equipment for THAT, mostly), for my 35mm w**k, the pros predominantly used Nikons (so I bought the Canon - FTb and F-1n - because they cost less than the Nikons did then. More things change, eh?

TSF - so, what do you do in Freshman Only for a whole hour, anyway?Huh? Guess I’m definitely ‘old-school’ (with Todd), as we were expected to have five ‘solids’ (English, biology/physics/other-science, history, etc.) plus phys.ed. (Yeah, grasshopper, in my day,.......). 10:30 a.m. for lunch? THAT does seem awfully early, depending on how early your school starts. When I was in high school (eons ago...), there was another district in the area that had two shifts - one came early and left about 2 p.m. or so, and another came in later but didn’t get done until almost suppertime. (Glad I didn’t go to that school district!). Of course, some of the course setup at schools depends on if a student’s in a college prep track, advanced classes track, vocational track (which might involve half a day at the vo-tech building), or whatever the school's setup is for varieties of class offerings.

Jeff, on that BRIGHT paint color, you could paint your mailbox with it - at least nobody could say they didn’t see it, if they run into the mailbox... (The other two can work for a lot of things, however Smile) Looks like you have been quite busy with re-w**king locos there in Sundown. Yeah Still liking your Mom’s ‘new’ car? Smile, Wink & Grin

Think I have a possible solution for some of the weather problems a bunch of Diners have been having. We just need to do a flip-flop of the entire US (West-to-East, that is). That way, Paul will get some relief from Texas’ grueling drought, and the Southeast and East Coast can dodge Irene. (of course now, BridgeTom and Sue, on the other hand may have an objection or two to THAT idea...)

Curt and BridgeTom, thanks for posting the layout pics - and keep ‘em comin’! Thumbs Up And BridgeTom, better rest up, with all the (extra) w**k you’re gonna have with chorus and choir this school year.  (Whew!) I’d agree with Todd - you must be doing something right, with that huge of a turnout for chorus and choir.

Oh, Curt, I’m guessing that the “oversized eyedropper” you mentioned isn’t one of these?   Thanks for the pics of your ballasting - looking good so far, and I like the colors on those (or is that one track at two steps in the process?).

Galaxy and Rob, best wishes on your ‘environmental equipment’ replacement/repair jobs. Never had to do that (and I’m very thankful about THAT). And (for both of you) do check out any and all credits, loans (Dad or other) and help to cover as much of the cost as humanly possible (or otherwise)...

Bama, good job on your weathering. Thumbs Up How’s your layout been coming along (are the ‘girls’ good at helping with that)?

YGW - good to see you in the Diner, and great to hear the news on your wife’s progress. Have you figured what size Kadees you’ll need for your car? Whistling

Sue, if you know of another 2-truck (MDC or other - except NOT brass, thank$) Shay, please email me. I don’t recall if I turned off my TheBay search for Shays, or if they just aren’t turning up there the past several months. Wouldn’t mind having a 'sister' to the one I have now... I’ll try to get photos taken of my logging bunks/cabins (at least, by this weekend) and post ‘em in here for you.

NSJoe, I guess you just don’t want to ‘tick off’ a wasp... Surprise Hey, and thanks for posting those railfanning pics - enjoying them!

Ulrich, I'd agree - I'm looking forward to seeing your new module plan. Thumbs Up Hope you find a new place (for you and Petra, or for THOSE neighbors...) before too much longer.

Paul, are you operating one of those fancy spas for the cows now, with mudpacks and everything? Smile, Wink & Grin

Prayers for those on our Eastern coasts (haven't heard from DerJohn in a while, except one forward lately, and Fergie may be MESS(tm)'ing out in the North Atlantic, getting ready to lasso Irene if she gets too close to Nova Scotia), and for Diners and family members in need of healing or comfort. I hope to be back tomorrow with photos and info for some of you.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

Hello all.

Busy day today. Busy getting orders out to button up the site and make it safe for the income storm. We are concerned around these parts not only about the storm but about some of the already damaged buildings from the earthqauke.Just today a couple of the elementry school gyms were condemed. We are wondering if the winds from the storm will finish taking them out? Got home and MOH was cooking dinner and this after taking her treatment today. I sent her to bed and took over with the dinner and kids. She was whipped. Checked on the track of the storm , looks like maybe where we live the storm will not hit us so hard. We will see???

Jeff- After hearing about the feeling issue in your hands I am even more impressed with your modeling ability. Bow

Lee - what the heck are you using Ketchup on, on the MRR ? A train robbery shoot out ? Train wreck ?

Ray - The carpenter bee's you mentioned what do they look like ? We have some here and those jockers hit and sting so hard its like getting shot by a small caliber gun. These look like oversized yellow jackets. They are about an inch and a qaurter to inch and a half. I have been stung twice by these suckers.Hope to NEVER feel that again.

Jerry- The other day I was checking craiglist for used HO stuff and I ran across an add for Kato stuff.Seems some one was getting out of the hobby and selling off their stuff for less than half price. Next time I will try to keep you in mind for adds like that.

Curt - thanks for the good word. Good job on the MMR trouble shooting. I need to do some of what you fixed.

Cuda - 27 cars before you realized it ??? How fast was Jeffs engine going ? I am with you on the social security. I think the age will be raised to 90 by the time I am ready to collect MY money. Its not the Goverenments money. That what really ticks me off. They (goverenment ) act like it belongs to them! My wife is supposed to be able to collect her security because of her condition. They said I make to much money! What the heck does that got to do with it? She paid it. She wont live long enough to collect, dang it give it to her now!SoapBox sorry guys got little carried away there. That just gets me going when I see illigals being handed out wick checks, food stamps etc...and they have not paid one dang red cent into the system and here we are and cannot collect one cent of her money.....!!!!This is screwed up!

Ulrich - how is it going ?

Earlier this evening I came across a group of kids at Wal-Mart working on their car. The left front turn signal wasn't working and they couldn't determine the reason. The bulb rested as good. The flasher unit was good. The turn signal control was evidently in good condition. One of the kids held up the wires going to the suspect socket and I saw what the problem was. There were crimp-on connectors on the wires. I told them that was their problem. Those connectors are always going to be a source of bother. Dirt and moisture work their way into them and they corrode every time. Better to take them off, twist the wires together and solder them then wrap them up in electrical tape and be done with it. As if to test what I said was the problem one of the kids squeezed the connectors and the bulb started flashing. I don't know when people will get it through their heads that these things can be dangerous. I've seen more automotive electrical fires started by them than by arsonists.

Evening from Sunny(HOT!)Cal:

We're due for about a week of 98 or better--which definitely means triple digits for a while.  Well, I can't complain too much, as we've had a largely mild summer with below normal temps.  So I guess we're due.

More news from the School front:  Had our first Department Meeting today--we have a new Instrumental instructor, a very Neat young fellow who just got his Masters from UC Davis and his Bachelors from University of Pacific.  He introduced himself by saying "I am a self-styled Geek.  My hobby is Geology, in case you don't believe me."  Of course, I liked him IMMEDIATELY, LOL!

Anyway, the upshot of it was that he's conducting our student orchestra, which meets on Monday evenings, and has students from Jesuit, Christian Brothers and St. Francis--a really good chance for all of our Catholic high school students in town to get together and make some neat music.  He presented the idea that he wanted to feature a Faculty soloist for the Spring Concert.  And suddenly, everyone looked at ME!   So suddenly I have to find a Piano Concerto to re-learn by April.  Now this wouldn't be too bad,but I haven't done anything like this since I was in my 'forties.  I've just been accompanying choirs and soloists since then.   He asked me what the last Concerto was that I played, I told him the Ravel Concerto For Left Hand (I kid you not, there actually IS one--Ravel wrote it for a pianist that lost his right arm in the First World War).  It's always been a favorite of mine, and I don't mind saying that I have an absolute KILLER left hand, LOL!   So before I could get another word in, he looked at me and said, "That sounds SO COOL--I'll order the score."

As if my year isn't going to be busy ENOUGH!   Oh well--found the score in my music collection this evening, looked it over.  I've got until April.  I can do it--tried it out a little, and I'm amazed at how much of it has stuck with me over the past 30 years.  Thank God for Muscle Memory, LOL!

So if you happen to hear a lot of Cursing emanating from Templeton Drive in Carmichael, just ignore it--it's just me practicing. Stick out tongue

I'm going to work on the Staging yard tomorrow.  Bought one of those neat Rix concrete overpasses to get the cars across the yard to the passenger station.  Looks a little 'modern' for 1940's,  but with some work and back-dating, it should turn out OK.  We'll see.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Tom

Some people are amazed I can do as much as I can. I found ways to get around some of the limitations but it would be virtually impossible to discuss it with someone unless they had a similar problem. A 'common frame of reference' if you will.

Very different...  One is a bee, and the other a hornet.  The ones I'm talking about are these: http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/ent/notes/Urban/carpenterbees.htm  The ones you see hanging around are usually the males which like most bees doesn't sting.  The Female of the species only will sting in self defense, ie: if handled roughly or injured.  I think what you are describing might be the European Hornet aka:  European Yellow Jacket.  They are a very large (up to an inch and a half) and often will nest in a wall of a building although more often holes in trees.  They are also unusual in that they will be found out at night.  We have had them around the neighborhood on occasion also.  They are not as aggressive as our native Yellow Jacket but do have a very nasty sting!!!  http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/ent/notes/Urban/eurohornet.htm  They were stripping the bark from a European Ash that was dying near one of my hedges a few years ago.  I cut down the ash and they didn't visit my place anymore........  They have been in NYS since about 1840 and have spread quite a bit in range.

Spent all evening trying to figure out how to use TurboCad Mac Plus....  I have no background in Cad design and I can't make anything of it...  I may have to take up a friend's offer to show me how to use Cad.  he is an RIT Grad and has a degree in design...  Also an officer out at the Museum.

Got to thinking today...  Always a dangerous thing!  My son and his family have been vacationing on a beach in Connecticut all this week.  Supposed to be home on Sunday.  Sure hope they leave a day or so early!!!

Just about time to turn in for the night.  To what I don't know......

Later!

You got that right Jeff.

Evening all, just stopping in for a RBF and to catch up on things.  My thoughts and prayers go out to those on our east coast, as they are preparing for Irene to come visit.  Had a fairly busy day at w**k today, came home and had spaghetti with the wife and girls, watched NCIS on USA and now I'm about to head off to bed.  Gotta w**k again tomorrow and sunday, so probably no MRR-related stuff for me this weekend, but we'll see.

Well (about half full at this point, but still clean), I think I'm going to check out a few other things and then head off to bed.

Nearing 3:00am. Broke out in sweats tonight, probably from pushing it a bit today working on the new fence. Guess a chamomile tea is in order.

Haven't heard any news on my dad yet. I can only assume this means he is doing better.

Hope y'all are doing well.

Good morning. It's 77° and partly cloudy. Today's high should be 98° Yeah right! It should be partly cloudy.

Hopefully the temp won't pull the dirty trick it pulled yesterday. The high was forecast to be 97. A nice day here. The temp shot up to 106° and that was without the heat index. I ended up with first degree burns on my hands from the steering wheel in the van. It was so hot I could feel it and that's saying something because it has to be blazing hot for that. So after it cooled down a bit later in the day I went to Wal-Mart and got one of those $12 slip-on steering wheel covers. It's plastic and foam with a velvet-like gray cloth covering. I had to really work to get it on. It's made to fit fourteen and a half to fifteen and a half inch steering wheels and mine is sixteen and a half inches. It was the biggest one I could find so it had to work. It fought me tooth and nail every step of the way and popped off a couple of times and hit me in the face once but it's on there. That should keep me from getting burned hands again. While I was there I picked up a new pillow for my bed. The old one was in pretty rough shape. The $8 to $10 micro-fiber pillows are OK but they tend to go flat within an hour and have to be fluffed up again. So I spent an extra $10 and got a high quality Beauty Rest standard size pillow. I had a really good rest last night. I think I'll go back to bed after I finish this so I can enjoy it a bit more. No plans for today except to stay cool. That being out in the heat yesterday running my mother all over creation was for the birds. It was nice and cool in the car but open the door and it was like getting hit by a heavy wall of heat and humidity that would slam you back in the seat. Speaking of the car, I discovered something about it yesterday. It has two (2) speedometers. One analog and the other is digital. So I can see the needle pointing to the speed on the dial and a little to the right just under the odometer (digital) the speed is displayed in bold green numerals. And I found the trip odometer. Press the INFO button on the dash and the odometer will flash the trip mileage for a few seconds along with X number of miles left on that tank of gas, est miles per gallon and est fuel economy. If I kept pressing the button it might have been able to work out any personality problems to eighteen decimal points. I wasn't that curious.

Good morning All,

In the shop to batten down and do a few things before our nephews wedding this afternoon. Storm is supposed to show up either tonight or first thing tomorrow depending on what speed it's at since they tend to speed up when they get further north (our faster pace of living up here right?). Just getting rain on and off now.

Did get some more turnouts in and some track connecting them last night. so far, so good. If I get a chance, I'll alligator clip some power on and see if anything moves.

Jeff - if you mess with the digital display part, you should be able to get it to keep the trip odometer or several other options up on the display instead of the default speedo. The trick with crimp connectors is in the crimp and in needed (like out in the breeze) spots, using shrink tube over the join which no-one does. All the military aircraft use crimp connectors not solder as the end of the soldered joint is a stress riser and the wire will fracture there from vibration. If you tape or shrink tube the soldered joint it will last a long time, but not as long as a properly crimped and strain relieved join IME.

Here's my to go - love that T-H coffeeThumbs Up Catch y'all later, J.R.

 Morning Folks

 Flo, big coffee please.

YGAW Jeffery's engine was not going that fast, I would guess around 35 sMPH. Reason it derailed so many cars is the siding the freight train was sitting on has a curve. I would guess they where to first to go off, about 10 of them and most where still coupled. I cannot see that section of track either from where I sit. It was all so around 17 cars, the whole train had 27 cars.

Ray Thanks for the offer on the ink, but mine uses a different style.

Being Unemployed Folks that are retired or disabled how do you cope with it. It has only been 5 days and I feel like I am on house arrest! Starting to go a little stir crazy. I miss going to work, not because of the money (that will come later) but I no longer look forward to my days off. Funny how during the work week I counted down the days to I was off.

Yesterday I was so bored I did the dishes for my wife. Hopefully I will get my unemployment and may be able to start working on the kitchen again. Installing the new floor and paint the cabinets gave me something to do. Still need a new range hood and sink, then the kitchen will look pretty good.

 See you all latter

Morning all, just stopping in to see how things are going before I head into w**k.

Flo, I'll have a tall glass of milk and a sausage and cheese biscuit.  Think I'm going to sit here in the window booth and see what happens, then it'll be off to w**k.

Ken, I know what you mean about feeling like you're on house arrest when you're out of work.  I felt the same way before I got the job with Advance, but like you said, it will come.  Have you thought about my suggestion of working at a part's house?

Jeff, glad that you got a steering wheel cover for your van, I've got to get one for my Impala, as some of the original covering on the wheel has come off, exposing the steel wheel under, which gets a bit warm in the sun.  Also, enjoy the new pillow, they can come VERY in handy.

Well (getting lower by the day), I think I'm going to check on everything else.

Good Morning!! Just coffee please.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 90.

Ray- Yes I find yellow Jackets (some old timers cal them ground bees and some call them picnic bees) a bit, um..., meaner, than your neighborly Mud Dauber or Paper Wasp. I will give a Paper Wasp a wider path than a Mud Dauber because, though it may be my imagination, they seem a bit more perturbed at my presence than the other. I wouldn’t call it aggressive, but ….Just because I’m not allergic to the venom, doesn’t mean I like to get poked if you know what I mean. You never know, it’s like I say about poison ivy. I haven’t had a reaction….yet. 21 times? I’d say you got me beat for one event stings by say, oh…20. In one day, 18. THAT was an unlucky day. First, sat on oneIndifferent. Can’t blame the wasp for thatLaugh, I would have done the same thing. The second later that day, I felt something on my neck thought it was a bug, reached back, grabbed it as one would normally do if you were picking up a bug to see what it was crawling around back there, and what do you know. A Wasp. Got me on the neck and of course the finger. I figgerd he’d justa stung the livin daylights out of me for the few seconds I had him in my hand until he was thrown roughly to the ground, but he/she/it only struck once. Maybe I should have just kept him in my hand. Might have developed a bonded and I could have had a pet wasp. Wow, that would have been almost as good as a Falcon. Yup, Brenda is allergic to bees, wasps, Hornets, who knows. Everything that stings is a bee to her. I have not seen her get stung but she describes what happens. Luckily not like this one guy I knew years ago. He’d get stung once and it’s Hospital Emergency. Had to carry around that bee sting bag. Brenda’s not that bad I guess, but she IS very afraid of getting stung on or near her throat. Never seen a Bald Faced Hornet up close, but I have heard of the follow for miles trait. Vengeful creatures. We have the occasional visit of Giant Hornets. Man! They are the C130’s of the wasp/Hornet kingdom. Yeesh! But they are just gentle giants and like Mud Daubers, just rather go about their business. Still, even I would not like to get stung by something that big.

Ken- Odd, I don’t feel like I’m on house arrest. OH! That’s right, as soon as I retired, folks found out. One thing about it though, I do lose track of what day it is. And the date? Forget it.

Speaking of things to do, gotta go.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

You find things to fill the time. You get a hobby. Mine just happens to be model railroading which I've been doing for about 47 years. I can't build or detail things anywhere near as good as I could before I became disabled but I do very well for someone with my physical problems.

Shoot! If I wasn't on the computer I probably wouldn't know what MONTH it was let alone the DAY or DATE. It just doesn't matter that much.

(ahem) Just read Ray's link to European Hornets and I found out they are the Giant Hornets I referred to.

Say, Where's Bill?

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe a cup of THAT dark roast coffee you been serving this month...(you know the T H stuff grows on you..  Still loke the old brew better, but T H is not bad,  not bad at all) and a breakfast bagel with bacon and cheese.

Galaxy....  Prayers have been said, and will be until the storm has passed, and then some more as people pick up the pieces and go on with life! Wink  What is the weather over your way for the next couple days?  I remember June of '72 all too well.  Agnes did a real good number on the "Valley" (Waverly, Sayre, and Athens) back then.  I sang in the Presbyterian Church in Athens, PA one week before the storm hit.  The next Sunday there was 27' of water above where I was standing to sing!  Here in the Finger Lakes, we may see a bit of wind and some showers.... Nothing too damaging though.

Ken....  Retirement?  Never been so busy in my life!  THAT is in spite of the fact I get 6 Saturdays and one Sunday in every week.  I know when Sunday comes because the paper is thicker....  I also often put on a bit better class of clothes and attend something called church.... unless I don't wake up in time.  I suggest you get yourself some kind of hobby.  Model Railroading or something... Oh, THAT's right you already have that....   Personally, I get a lot of exorcise due to combination of Adult Onset ADHD and CRS...  I have a feeling THAT all the Canon printers that used the #8 ink have by now had the kill switch activated and have been replaced with one using newer (and more expensive) cartridges with less ink....

Hope all of you on the East coast stay safe and out of harm's way!  I also hope my son and his family are on the way home from Connecticut by now!

Later!

Hello ...

I'm still in AL. I have very little computer time, and I am using my mother's very slow computer.

She would like to thank everybody for the happy b'day wishes. They are appreciated very much. JimCG posted the b'day cake picture, and Mom liked seeing it because she has always liked red and white.

I'll have to catch up when I get back home. Perhaps, we will finally be in BC. Meanwhile, how was the steam loco in the Canadian Prairies?

East Coast Diners ... I hope you get through the storm OK.

Cheers.

Well, it is all most afternoon.

 Flo, lemonade please.

The Hobby Well, I do have a few engines that I can still repair with out replacing there motors. Till I get the other replacement motors tested I do not dare to risk the few decoders I have left. One of the reasons I wished I had stayed DC, if the motor is bad, you don't waste $20.00 and junk a decoder.

Far as working on the layout, just hard to bring my self to doing it with not knowing when or if I may lose the house. But then again, I do have some supply's so why not?

Guess I go do some switching to kill some time.

Afternoon everyone. I'll take a bacon cheeseburger and a cup of coffee, thanks.

Ray, thanks for the additional camera advice. I was planning on trying out a few cameras during my search, but thanks for the tip anyway. I didn't try out my current camera, but only because it's essentially the same as the one that my dad has (mine's just a newer version). They're Canons, and I like them, so that is pushing me in the direction of another Canon.

Jim, I'm glad you're enjoying the photos! I'll keep 'em coming until I run out.

Thanks, everyone for the prayers. So far, we have rain, but the wind is picking up. Everything is shut down and boarded up. I'll post photos later.

Well (water level rising from the rain), my food's here, so I'll catch ya later.

-Joe
