Goooooooooooooooooooooooooood Afternoon, BARRY-sized double cheeseburger and a bucket of 7-Up. Need to mow the pasture/meadow/yard later today. Then again, maybe I can convince the city of Clarence THAT it isn't a "yard," but a "roadside vegatation preservation and management area." Yup, there's a committee in Iowa THAT seeks to ensure roadsides are covered in all sorts of pretty ditch weeds. Confused

ULRICH: Not to be insulting, or to annoy you, but THAT description fits most of the "security" guards I've met. There was an old guy at the Cargill Corn Wet Milling Plant in Cedar Rapids, had to be about 90 years old, deaf as a utility pole, blind as a bat. I come wheeling up to his little red stop sign to teach a CPR and first aid class to the in-plant responders. He comes up to the truck (took about five minutes for him to walk ten feet). He fixes an icy stare upon me. "What are YOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU doing here?" After several minutes of explaining what CPR and first aid is, what Kirkwood Community College is...and having to go through "my story" several times; he finally shuffled back to his little shack, ten feet away (took him another five minutes), then while still staring at me as if I was the Anti-Christ, Charlie Manson and his ex-Father-in-Law from 1938...he opens the gate.

My favorite Uncle had a security job for a number of years at a printing plant in Manhattan, KS. They made some popular brand of sewing patterns, Mc-something...McCall's maybe??? Anyhow. Most of his shift was spent glancing at monitors (security cameras), doing Word Search puzzles, and answering the phone. Once an hour, he was supposed to walk the plant. But, he didn't have to maintain any set pace, he just had to hit a number of "turn key" things THAT would prove he'd made his rounds. He was ultimately replaced by...a computer. His final act? He was told to turn on the system replacing him on his way out the door for the last time.

TODD: Rerun wants to know, what Missy's favorite TV shows are. He really likes "Sitting Ducks," or something like THAT... Mostly though, at bedtime, he prefers to look at picture books with the Wife.

Have a good day everybody....

Chris

Good Afternoon everyone!

Thanks to everyone for the comments on the paintings.

Ulrich, any picture I post is for everyone to share, so go right ahead!

Simon, I almost always stick to the same size, 16"x20". They're easy to frame , and easy to ship.

My next painting is probably something NYC, either a Hudson, Mohawk, or Niagara. I'm just looking for the right shot.

Anyway, I'll see ya all tomorrow!

Good Evening!

It´s been a slow day in my neck of the woods - lotsa wet stuff coming down. Spend the afternoon laying some track, but could not complete the job, as 1 (one!) piece of track is missing - stupid me! I put out the order and will have to wait a few days (hopefully not more) until I get.

The morning was kind of "interesting" Our welfare agent tried to "persuade" to do a security officer´s training and take up a job in security. Now you have to figure me, a guy of 6´5", "slightly" overweight, wearing glasses, with a heart condition and a sore back doing a security job! I don´t know whether to laugh or to cry. It is probably one of those "offers" I cannot turn down Embarrassed

Andy - sounds as if you have a nice neighbor.

Ray - your son´s niece is in our Angel

Ken - just a thought of mine - selling mattresses is a seasonal business, isn´t it? I can imagine that summer is the time when people have a lot of other things on their mind than to go out and by a mattress. Keeping my fingers crossed that the situation will improve soon!

Zoe, I´ll have a Beer and stay at the RC for a while, please & thanks.

Hello Everyone,

Slow day here at w**k (see I catch on quick). I would order a beer but a coke will have to do for about another 4 hours. It is a cloudy overcast day here in the Fort. Temp in the mid 60s. Like several others my lawn is in need of a grooming and I have to tackle some jungle like growth in the fence line and next to my house. Now this is the sweet deal I have for lawn grooming. My neighbor has a very small yard. It is about 8' by 30' and all of it a local utility easement. He does not have a lawnmower. I have not had to cut my lawn myself since spring of 2010. I provide the mower and the neighbor provides the labor. How's that for a sweet deal? We generally split the gas. I also have let him put in a vegtable garden in my back yard. And I get some free fresh vegtables. At least in the past. This year he has no gotten around to planting yet (2 kids, girlfriend, & Ex-wife) so I am not sure there will be much harvest to reap.

Everyone stay well. There is someting going around. I have read several posts from friends on facebook talking about really sick kids. High fever and such. So stay well!

Afternoon folks!

Didn't make it in here this morning to post.  Been busy getting Stuff done around here...  Got about half the front lawn mowed.  Wanted to get as much done as I could before the liquid sunshine shows up.  Grass was wet from showers overnight anyway.  need to do some major house cleaning today, and then get over to my son's house to watch the granddaughters.  My son called to remind me earlier, and to let me know his niece was taken to Strong Hospital in Rochester this morning.  She is not quite 2 years old and had a very bad siezure (couple of them actually) this morning.  She hadn't had one in some time now (had them as an infant but they thought she had outgrown them).  She also is having some developmental issues (something happened at her birth causing all this).  She can 't walk or talk at all yet.  Please keep her in your prayers!

So.....  What's good for lunch today, Flo?

Nothing much going on today. I'll be taking my mother to town for a free lunch at a place she knows about. Probably will end up having to take her somewhere else. No trips out of town if I can help it.

SOunds like being with your mother will be about as fun as my possible root canal today!

If it's not today, then we will be setting up a future time for it. I've only had a day and a half of antibiotics, usually they wnat you to finish all before the root canal.

Got some Early AM shopping done. good now I can nap before the trip to the dentist.

Later

Good morning. It's 75° here and cloudy with some sun showing through. The high will be 93° and there's a 50% chance of thunderstorms.

Do you think it could be be Transformer? Think you said you used a battery when you tested yours? If so what sizes?

Initial tests were with a plain old 9V battery because I was lazy and had one laying on my desk.  Subsequent testing was done with a cheap Bachmann train-set level DC power pack, so more real voltage levels.   It was using the power-pack that I identified my bad motor.

Good Morning!! Coffee please. Not hungry just yet.

Partly sunny, with a high near 74. Translation….gloomy and chilly.

Not much going on today as far as I know. We all know what that means. That's a good thing as Arthur is here and making his presence well known. Having trouble with the coffee cup so can't do much until it goes away. Well, I can and usualy do, but I'd prefer not to if possible.

Due to my late night post I have nothing more to say. I do remember saving something for this morning. Can’t remember what it was though. Must not have been important. (chuckle)

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Poodles. A white miniature male and a gray teacup female. And they are spoiled thoroughly rotten.

Imagine that. I have an equally spoiled Chocolate Lab if you're interested. Of course I'll have to supply a list of required treats and the schedules and list of events for recieving them. You'll have to have a suitable couch, and enough room on the bed to stretch out for a few hours when bedtime comes. Your house temp seems to be ok so you probably won't require a fan, and oh yes, almost forgot, the list of necessary television shows at bedtime to be playing until sleep overtakes. All that is the easy part. Getting her away from Brenda will take the entire U.S.Army Rangers. If they are lucky.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooood Mornin',

Bucket of coffee to go, please, thank-you.

ANDY, ANDREW, DREW: Welcome!

ULRICH: Regarding THAT redneck joke about the redneck on the Autobahn. Way back in 19 and 86...a girl in my high school driver's ed. class was motoring along Interstate 380 above Cedar Rapids. The instructor told her to pass the car ahead. So, she, at 55 mph, puts the car into Paaasssssssing gear. Yup. From D back through N and R to P.

Her final grade turned out better than the transmission...

RAY: The shop..."WOW!" doesn't even begin to cover it. Amazing stuff. Hey, now THAT you've got THAT fancy new mower...why not bring it to Iowa and give it a real workout???Smile, Wink & Grin

Plans for today: Facetime, then attempt to mow the meadow I once called a yard...

Have a safe day everybody!

 Morning Folks

Flo, Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Toast and OJ.

Simon I am starting to think my meter is bad. All of the new motors have now tested bad, but now I am getting the same weird readings on my Athearn Motors? Tested one yesterday and and free wheeling in the chassis it started out at 0.20 amps, but bounced around a lot and up to .45. Ran it longer and it started getting into the 3.0 range and hit a high of 16.5 amps? I don't see having this many bad motors, these are all replacement motors that should be good. I need to get these tested before I write them off.

Do you think it could be be Transformer? Think you said you used a battery when you tested yours? If so what sizes?

Far as Work Front  All the stores are slow, but mine has just plan stopped! I hope this meeting is about advertising, we have been promised some. I think the whole store is only around $12,000.00 in sales for the month. I had been doing $12,000.00 a week my self till this month.

Train Front Pulled the F7 B unit back apart and see no real reason I should not have power pick up from the front trucks. There was a lot of oil between the truck and frame (using a Digitrax T/A wiring harness) so cleaned that up and will test tonight.  I all so re soldered the wires to be safe.

Ulrich Hope you get to have some fun today.

Well, time to get ready for work.

I received another IRS.gov email this morning. Same content as before except for the .zip file. The one I got yesterday contained a Trojan. This new one contains a full-blown virus called FakeAlert. The email providers Norton Antivirus didn't pick it up but my AVG did. Here's the scan result screen:

I guess I'll just have to block the IRS from my inbox. :D

Jeff - I have been worried a little - take good care, will´ ya, pal?

I try as best I can but others don't seem to get the message and think I should be able to just go, go and go. Other family members aren't too crazy about helping with the parents so it falls to me to handle it. You know how that goes.

Good morning all..   I need a seriously strong cup of espresso coffee, does a red  neck diner have that?  I am on steroids to knock out my 2nd really nasty dose of Poison Ivy this year.  I keep waking up all through the night, a common side effect.   I guess my MLB career is up in smoke nowBig Smile

I have been single dadding it for a couple of days with the better-half being out of town for a convention.  Andrew turned 14 on the 22nd so we had an inevitable visit to K-10 model trains, because birthday money was burning a hole in his pocket!   I was utterly intransigent and refused to make up the difference on a loco that he wanted to buy, so he put it on lay-away and can learn about saving up for something over the next couple of months.  He is a good kid and does a couple of hours volunteer work at the local food pantry on Saturday mornings, so there is a work ethic developing and I can see him looking to earn some extra doing odd jobs over the coming few days to speed up the saving process.

It has been only a few days since I stepped in here, but there have been pages of postings, so no way to go back and comment on everything!   However there are some notable mentions needed.

Ray  the engine house interior is excellent.  I have aspirations to do a similar type of scene in a small round house structure that I have planned for my under-construction peninsula.  I have a lot of nice detail castings ready for it and hope it comes out half as nice as your model.  Great job.

Stan I really like this latest painting.  There is something about the light in this one that really appeals to me, the contrast in shadows on the track, that sort of thing.  How big is the completed piece?

Ken  How many of the motors we purchased seem to be bad on your end?  1 of my 4 is bad for sure, curious about your 6?   Not expecting any restitution, but thought I would at least send a note to the eBay seller and see what if anything they have to say about it.  I sure hope business picks up at the store.  Is this typical seasonal variation in your trade?  Folks are looking outside to spend their money, not on interior things like bedrooms?

Ulrich  pleased to see your goodies arrived in-tact.   I am looking very much forward to seeing what you accomplish with the content.   Regarding the stream, I think you need to be a bit careful with coloring unless you are really trying to create an illusion of depth.  But it seems to me that your stream would not be all that deep?   Perhaps there might be the odd pool of water that is a bit deeper where some coloring of the base could help suggest that?

Well, I can hear rumblings upstairs which suggests that a pair of strapping young lads will be foraging around looking for breakfast.

Catch up later.

Good Morning,

a dull day here in northern Germany - wet & windy. As this is our usual fare, I should not complain. Not much planned for this morning, other than following that "invitation" to see our welfare administration people. Most likely they just want to know how I am doing with my job applications - closing in on 2,000 this month in a two-year time span.

Warning - there could be a rant ahead!

The German economy seems to be doing fine, our government is pondering over tax cuts. Word is out that we have a shortage of qualified labor and therefore should loosen our immigration laws to attract skilled labor, preferably with an academic background. Well, I am qualified and I do have an academic background, plus more than 30 years experience in management jobs - how come i don´t find a job? Oh, I forgot, I´ll be turning 55 in a few weeks - too old for this country.

End of statement.

Janie, a mug of dark roast, please.

Ken - a typical Murphy day. What can go wrong, will go wrong. I had many of those in the recent past - today may turn into one of them. Hang in there - better days are sure to come for the two of us! (Wish I knew when).

Andy - Welcome. Good to see a new face to join this gang. When I became a member of this forum, I thought this place to be something of a "closed shop" - a platform for folks who really know each other well. Took me  some time to collect my guts and knock on the door. It flung wide open! I have never met finer folks than in this place!

YGW - it´s a river bed, not a road bed, but I think you are right - I will darken it a little and then pour the water.

Garry - Petra is a blessing for me.  Her father died 14 years ago, shortly after retiring. He was a difficult man to be with, strongly opinionated and never much of a family man. He died just when his character "softened". We miss him.

Ray - Bow for the interior of your engine house. Now if i could do that in N scale .... Whistling

Jeff - I have been worried a little - take good care, will´ ya, pal?

Here is a German redneck story:

A Redneck comes to Germany and rents a Porsche, as he has heard that there is no speed limit on our Autobahns. The car rental agent gives him a few words of caution, but the Redneck jumps into the car, steps on it and zooms off onto the Autobahn. It does not take long and he´s back to the rental station, demanding a new car, as the "old" one has broken down. The car was perfectly in order, the agent states, what did you do? Well, as I entered the Autobahn, I really stepped on it, shifting through the gears in a jiffy. Upon reaching top speed, I shifted into "R" for "Racing" ....

Have a good one!

Tater tots & a Chamomile tea, please.

While returning from H-Depot the other day, we saw a tiny little creature barely walking across the road. I thought cat, wife thought chiwahwah. It then slumped down beside the road motionless as we pulled closer. It was a newborn fawn, not even entirely dried off yet. Had to really talk my wife out of stopping. I knew the doe was likely right inside the tree line recovering from birthing the tiny creature. What I should have done was return with my camera for some fresh reference photos. Still kicking myself for not doing so. We've both seen fawns before, just never a newborn. Would have made an excellent subject to paint. Dunce

Have a nice night y'all.

Evnin’ Beer please. Ooo! Any catfish left over? Thanks.

Here, hold my beer…… Ooops, sorry Jeff, didn’t mean to sit on you, didn’t notice you were there.

Ken- Great mower. Frank had one looked kinda like that without the stack. Painted, and named it, Plum Crazy. I think the thing went about 40 mph. Wild ride.

Stan- All I can say is Wow! Bow

Great advice on the computer and e-mail stuff. I never respond to anything the banks, credit cards, e-bay, paypal, ANYthing that is sent to me in E-mail. (unless it’s just verbal conversation with someone ) I always go to my account through MY link and respond there. This has worked several times though I admit, I very rarely ever get that kind of stuff through the E-mail. Couple of Viagra type things once or twice a yearConfused, but usually no junk mail. I take that back, since my carrier has changed to a Google account, I get in my quaranteed thing, some UPS package that they can’t deliver about once or twice a month. Don’t know what it is they can’t deliver, I just delete it.

Andy-  WelcomeGlad you stopped in. Key word is self respectingLaugh. I drink Lone Star or Pearl whenan get them, Pabst Blue Ribbon if I can’t. Lately it’s been Pabst. Why? Well when I get up from my seat or if I do have someone hold my beer, I know it’ll be there when I get back! Laugh

Jeff- What kind of dogs does your Mother have?

Curt- This thread reads like friends talking because that is what it is. Just a bunch of friends talking. Garry had a great idea by pointing out that we need to make sure that others didn’t get the wrong idea that this is a private club by invite only. I’m glad he did because we’ve made some new friends. That’s one of the things about MRRing. Making new friends with a common interest.

I lurked for a while too. In fact I tried a few other forums with a post or two before finding this one. I wasn’t treated badly, but when I finally stepped through the door of this place, it was different than any other place I had been. Been here ever since.

Ray- Can’t say enough good about that Engine house. Man!

Ken- Hard to believe maybe sometimes, but remember this. No matter how bad things are, there is always someone who has it worse. For this I am thankful. (not that someone has it worse, but…. Well you know what I mean.)

Welp, best get headin to bed……hey! Who drank my beer?

PFTIN.

Much better day than yesterday. Mr. I am a big shot attitude much improved, finally w**k is moving forward and VP is off my back. What a relief. In fact they informed me they were buying me a new printer to replace the worn out thing I had been using.

Drew/Andy - Welcome I laughed out load at yur comment about "no self respecting redneck ...then would throw it at a bicyclist" Out where I live we have these idiot city cyclist who come out on our curvy country roads pretending they are on the tour daaa France and ride there bicycles putting everyone in danger including themselves. Think of it this way. One is traveling say fifty mile an hour you come around one of those typical country road curves,  with trees  to the ditch lines and then there is one of those idiots pretending to be Lance Armstrong in his lil yellow jersey, peddling his legs off to give his but a ride and you have to make a choice run the moron over or take a risk and go around him and risk a head on with a redneck trying to hit the idiot bicyclist with an empty six pack of beer bottles and is not looking at you coming at him.BANG ! You run over the moron that is decked out in yellow - right after the redneck hits him with the empty beer bottles Whistling

Galaxy - You forgot to give Andy the low down on Chloe, Floe , Janie....,been there done that with the gas cap. Since when did broken gas caps start causing engine lights to come on ?? Crazy stuff !

Ulrich - My vote is color the road bed first.

Howmus - LOL ! Dirt grease and finger foods ! Absolutely amazing engine house Bow

Ken - here have a cold one on me. Janie put it on my tab and if he wants any thing on the menue I'll take care of it.

True Redneck story - One Friday night about 3am we hear this banging on the front door. Myself and my Dad jump and go down to see what the ruckus is all about. When my father opens the door there stands one of the local rednecks drunk as a skunk . Standing there with legs splayed and covered in oak leaves from falling in the ditch and wobbling several directions all at once. He immediatly ask if so and so is in ( who happens to be his drinking buddy). We try to explain to him that so and so lives next door. It took us four or five attempts  to explain to him and get him to understand that so and so actually did live next door . When he finally understood, he wobbly turned and as he made his way off our porch (some how with out spilling his Black Label) we could hear him slur  " S**t if that hill is any steeper than this one , I will never make it up it! " The next day my dad and I had a good laugh over the whole incident.

Good Evening Diners!

A beautiful sunny day here in Winterpeg.

Chloe, I'd like, let me think, oh why not, a large RBF!  Now that's original.

Seamonster, well Bob, hope you have a nice day trip up Gimili way. I sure made that one a lot as I had a sailboat in Gimli for 30 years.  We just sold it 2 years ago. I haven't been back to Gimli since then. Cordless electric mowers are great if you don't have a lot of grass. We have a Gardena reel type mower that has a moterized reel so is really easy to push. We've had it about 5 years now and find it very quiet. The only downside is that it won't mow tall grass very well.

Barry, I can tell you that that car record player was a factory option in 1956 Chrysler products. The dash shown is a Dodge Royal which wasn't available in Canada. I have a '56 Motor Trend magazine that explains how they work. They took a special record so really weren't very popular and weren't very good on rough roads. I remember ads for underdash 45 players and I agree that the application that Ray mentioned would have probably been the best one.

Braikie,  I think that ME code 55 doesn't have the flange issue that you find with Atlas. When I was  deciding on what brand of track to use I bought samples of both Atlas and ME. I went with ME.

We just got in the door from errands and a stop at Dairy Queen but as it is now 10 p.m. I should start thinking about a little eye lid examination.

Good evening.

Welcome Drew ! ... It's always good to have Hoosiers on board!

I see Barry has been talking to you. Here is his photo so you can know him better.

Ken ... I enjoyed your photos. old derailments were really something.

Ray ... The engine house interior looks great!

Stan .... That's a great painting, too. You are remarkable,

Ulrich ... I'm impressed how Petra is willing to be with you while you are with your parents with their problems. Are her parents still living?

You might be a redneck if your guest bedroom is also your tool shed.

Hello Dinners, hope you have had a better day than I have! Theses pictures pretty much sum up my day!

Flo, keg of Beer please and a straw.

1 My commission check is 8 days late, down to $12.00.

2 Made a deposit for a check I had out last week, made it 15 minutes late and was charged $28.00 NSF fee.

3 Was charged another $30.00 for continuances over draft? I never got the over draft letter? Did get the the Bank Manager to take the $30.00 off.

4 Had to deposit a extra $30.00 to cover the cost to Friday when they would remove the $30.00 so I could pay the light bill.

5 Cannot afford my Med's because I am missing my commission check and because I had to deposit the extra $30.00!

6 Sue told me her Medicate was canceled because where over paid $15.00 in food stamps. She was wrong, she did get her card today. But after that pieces or wrong information I was done.

7 Have yet another meeting this Saturday, don't have the money for gas, because I have not got a check that is 8 days late!

8 OK, heck with the yard! So I did a little on the Train Front. Hard wired a decoder into my BB Athearn F-7 B. Then I tried to speed match it to the A unit.

8 A Had to change the CV that controls which way it runs. I either wired the motor backwards, or got the trucks backwards.

8 B  Was warming up the A and B units for the speed match. B unit kept stalling so it was time to clean the wheels, so I thought.

8 C While cleaning the B units wheels, found there was NO power pick up to the front wheels? So back to the Back Shop!

Well life could be way worst. Rest of my engines are under a full head of steam.

 The dinner is full

Tiffy my 16.5 year old American was doing the happy dances when I got home.

And so was Shaddy the wolfhound.

Will have a Salad, Western Omelet and left over Pizza for dinner. Dinner So I guess life is not that bad.

Hum, just cheered my self up some!

 See you all later.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I'll have the fried Catfish, Fries, and a trip to Salad Bar tonight and a large unsweetened Ice Tea.

Hi Andy!  Welcome aboard.  Yep this is a great place to sit and talk with your fellow (and Lady) model railroaders.  You can order anything you like from the virtual menu and it is almost always in stock.  We tolerate most anyone around here...  Heck they even put up with me!

We have a nasty band of Thunder boomers THAT should be passing through the Finger Lakes in an hour or so.  Possible hail and high winds with it.....  Probably means I will wait until tomorrow to do more mowing of the lawn...  Dang!  I wanted to play with the new toy. Smile, Wink & GrinLaugh

More Advise: Entertaining at home... A centerpiece for the table should never be anything prepared by a taxidermist.  Do not ever allow the dog to eat at the table... no matter how good his manners are.

As time has permitted, I have put a few more  odds and ends into the Engine House...  Todd, no footprints yet, although a friend at the museum says to have them in spilled oil....  A MMR friend of mine say to make them with very small feet in HO! Whistling  I made a pair of sawhorses.  All workshops need at least one pair of sawhorses don't they?

If you were to stand in the doorway between the tracks, this is what you would see right now:

Catch you all later!

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!
