Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes (leave the real maple syrup please), and a cup of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug. Thanky Ma'am!
Another hot one here i the Finger Lakes! Already 81°F..... Don't think it got below 70° last night. left the air conditioners on all night, so the house is cool at least. I should be w*rking outside on gardening projects most of the day... Should be, that is. May decide to disappear into the train rooms down cellar instead.
Simon, I am a member of 3 MR forums... This one is the busy one! Another I used to spend much more time on doesn't seem to be doing any moderating these day judging by the insulting, political, racist crap some people are posting over there..... I don't spend much time over there these days. The other one is over across the pond and has had 3 new posts in the last week....... I spend most of my online time here as it is the best one I have found to date. That said, at times the speed is lacking here and may have an influence on how many posts we are getting..........
Ulrich! Hey guys! Ulrich is making an escape!!! YES! Congrats on being kicked out of the high rent district. Prayers for your continued recovery!
Todd, you got it wrong.... The guy who died was the librarian..... He was originally a Social Studies teacher who decided to keep the books.... The female dog was his assistant. She had a tough life so we all just put up with her nastiness as it was her way of coping. She had 2 children, both of whom died young.... She could be very helpful as well, but just had a very short fuse which some teachers liked to light at times... should we say?
So..........??? Where are we? Guess we will have to wait until Galaxy gets home from all the medical stuff to find out...
Later!

@Simon:
I've been around a bit also and have also noticed the decline in activity. I think that you may be partically correct in that a link to the forums is rather important to have on the main page :)
For me, however, the new forum software (community Server) was a mistake. I run/admin many other forums and the feel/ease of navigation to CS just isn't there. Speed is down also. Seems slower since the switch.

I understand the seasonal ebb and flow, having been on the forum for 8 years now, longer than most, but it does seem to be much slower than in past years. I do find it curious that if Kalmbach wants to promote the forum that they have made it less easy to find. Anyway, just an observation on my part. Was curious if others noticed the same trend in activity? I would be curious to see if new registrations for the forum have dropped off since they eliminated the forum links from the home pages?

Good Morning!! I don't care where we are. It's pretty and I want a breakfast Taco and coffee please. (how's that for stern?)
Sunny, with a high near 84. Great day to finish my list don’t you think?
Well look what the cat drug in……BAMA!!!!! Good to hear from you. Was a little worried after them tornadies went through Alabama.
Simon- Ya, like Ulrich said, it’s seasonal. It’ll pick up a little in the Summer during the week, then slow again in the Fall as people are getting out doing Fall activities and readying for Winter. I doubt Kalmbach will let the forums die. They get a lot of useful feedback off them as well as ideas as to what MRRers, are doing and wanting. Like an open window to our hobby rooms. Something they never had a chance for before these things. You notice they mentioned them in the Editorial this month. Rest assured though they are quiet, they are here listening and watching. Keeping tabs on what’s going on now in the hobby. A very good thing if you ask me.
I’m with Barry on the not giving out the “Class of” info. BUT! I will see if you can guess I was the Class of 1980 (if you can. HA!) by giving you a few…, not so easy clues. Ready? (ahem) Tube tops…….,Halter tops……., Daisy Duke shorts. That’s about all I can recall about the time at the moment, but I’ll think of some more later.
I must get a move on.
Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Morning All,
At w**k today. High today 90F and humid. There is a 30% chance of rain from the storm off the FL coast. There are over 40 brush fires in the Central Florida area right now. We need rain. I think I am going to order my back drop from Scenic Express tomorrow along with concrete bumpers (PRR style).
SFB- Welcome and please post pictures of your layout.

Good Afternoon Folks,
Good news - I will be going home today!
Tomorrow´s a holiday here in Germany, so they won´t be doing anything to me/with me anyway. I have to report back on Friday for some tests, but that´s OK. Petra is on her way to pick me up!
Hooray - that gives me an extra day of doing some MRRing tomorrow! OK, I have to go easy for a few weeks, but who says that MRRing is actual hard w*rk?
I am a happy man!
Simon - the forum usually slows down in Spring/Summer, as people tend to spend more time outside and not in a basement or train room. I have no worries that Kalmbach is going to let this die. There will still be Jeff (and some others), who as our "postmaster" will see that there is a sufficient amount of posts.
Chloe, I am in a spending mood - free food and drinks for the gang until midnight! Well, and serbe SFB a nice cup of tea, please.
Going to pack up, I´ll expect Petra to come and get me any minute!

Is there delivery for lunch? I'll take a wiz wit. For those who have never been to Philly, thats a cheesesteak with wiz and grilled onions. I have noticed the forum slowing down. It might be because we are nearing summer?
Good morning everyone.....
Is it my imagination, or has the whole Kalmbach forum slowed down? I am not referring to the speed of loading or performance issues of the forum, but the low level of posting.
Take today for example as of right now, there are only 18 threads across the entire MRR section of the forum that have had contributions since midnight. Which is actually less posting than a couple of the smaller forums that I belong to elsewhere. (At least I always considered them to be smaller)
I also find is curious that unless you know that there is a forum on this web site, you are simply not going to find it, unless you stumble around clicking on links. Take a look at either the main Trains.com portal or the Model Railroader main page, nothing, other than an obscure menu link.
Are we talking natural seasonal ebb and flow here, or do you think Kalmbach is allowing this to fade and die?

My tea ready yet?
"Food" is ALWAYS ready here in a "jiffy" {fast for those unfamiliar whit the word} Our fancy waitresses see to that! That is one reason they deserve a 20% tip! Besides serving us railheads is not easy!
No, WE are not in Philly. Maybe next month. Last month {the May 2011 edition we went across the pond to comfort Ulrich in Germany. This month we are in another country as well. All will be revealed this afternoon after my neurosurgeon's appointment.
You seem to be fitting right in and adjusting fast, that is good! we always welcome newcomers nicely! The abbreviation of SFB is for you! we call you that shortly {for Steam Freight Boy} so look for SFB in postings as someone is talking to you!
WE really are a "cool" bunch. ANd so is the wait staff!
I shall have some please.
We haven't had any lately, but last thursdays and friday's storm knocked out power for some people for the whole weekend. I guess NYSEG {New York State Electric and Gas} is being investigated over it's restoration policy for these storms as some people were without power form thursday to monday night or tues. A looooong time to be without power. They even brought in crews from Long Island to help repair some 20 miles of lines!
We will think more seriously about getting a generator....when we have the $$$.
Later dudes, I will reveal all later!

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
When is this joint headed to Philly?
All right, my layout is an HO scale 4-by-8 steelmill with a Basic Oxygen Furnace, an Electric Arc Funace, a coal fired power plant, an operating slag dump, and a finishing building. I converted to DCC a few years ago and have never regretted it. In the end, everything will be scratchbuilt or kitbashed, because my foot prints are weird and I don't have the cash to buy huge buildings like those. It will be an independant merchant steel mill, no iron is produced. The mill has a contract with Bethlehem Steel where pig iron is shipped in from Bethlehem to be made into steel here. All products are shipped out by railcar. There is no era to it, I have my SW1500(?) helping the B&O 4-4-0 up the 3% grade!
As for railfanning, I am not able to do much, but I will watch trains wherever I am, if I see one!
der5997: Thanks for the flashing welcome. That was cool

First, a long swim, then a long run down the tracks to find the Diner at its June location. Where are we actually - have not figured out the place. Anyway, I made it and here I am!
one day to go until it´s D-Day for me. That´s Discharge Day! I have started to count the hours!
Flo, I´ll have some coffee and a roll, please!
Bama - good to see you again, I got worried with all those tornadoes in your neck of the woods!
Ken - I am sorry you missed your target - so close, but yet so far! Seems to be the story of my life as well. I am sure the folks you are w*rking for appreciate what you are achieving!
Jeff - when Star Trek first was shown on German TV, I was a Trekkie myself, but I think I have outgrown it since
Ray - my student days also saw some things which would mean trouble to today´s kids. People were probably more relaxed and the things we did as well, never harmful.
Sfb - from the other end of the Big Pond! You´ve come to the right place. Lots of good folks in here. Galaxy has given you the directions of this thread, so there is nothing to be added to that. Think of this place as a place where folks meet after (or even before) w*rk and share the day. And, yes, tea is also being served in here!
TSF - class of 2012, eh. I am class of ´74, Bainbridge Island High School. Crazy days, back then. Vietnam war, Watergate, Impeachment, oil crunch, Yom Kippur war in Israel, first love, first kiss - oh, well, memories, fond memories
Y´ all have a good one!
*stumbles in, dusts off and takes a seat at the RC* Gooooooood Evening all!!!!!! Its been a long time since I've managed to make it in here. Glad that I was able to catch things up at the beginning of the month instead of trying to pull catch ups. Haven't been able to do diddly with my MRR stuff. Been reading articles and doing research on the rail lines that I'm modelling. Also been looking into how many people I'm going to need to have with me to effectively run the railroad. I actually might need a little help on this one, so we'll see.
On the w*rk front things have been up and down, mostly down. Seems as if things haven't really picked up like "they" were planning.
Jeff cool to hear that you got Star Trek Enterprise. I'm not a trekkie per se, but I do like watching them, and I wouldn't mind having all of the series.
Ken, sorry to hear that a bird did his "business" on you, have had that happen before, and I also feel you on missing sales marks at w*rk.
Welp, that's about it for me, going to do my best to stop in here more often and much more regularly.
Later taters!
Ray- My condolences to her family. I'm glad she recalls such fond memories for you.
Ken- So close and yet so far. It makes it so much worse that way. Am I snickering? No. I mean...sorry. Oh no! It has nothing to do with your job or the outcome of the month. Oh man I wanna say something but I can't. I can't resist........There'll be next month and you are one heck of a salesman so don't feel too bad.(can't resist) Sorry you had a ( oh I can't stop it) crappy day...... ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!
Oh my sides hurt. I best get to bed.
PFTIN
Now where the heck are we?
Flo, I take a beer please.
Work Front, close but no Cigar. I am still stunned by how bad this Memorial Day Weekend was! Memorial Day Weekend is normally Hugh! With 4 days to go all I need to get delivered was a mere $5000.00, should be a shoe in. Had the store well stocked, but only had 10 customers in 4 days?
Finished up the month with $48,895.69 and short $1104.31 to hit the needed $50,000.00 mark and the $1,000.00 Bonus. Just to finishes the day off just right, I was sitting out side and a Bird Crapped on me! Yep, seem like a fitting ending to this month.
Well, it could be worst I guess. I should get the $500.00 Bonus for hitting $45,000.00 and around $180.00 in commission. Having Shaun with me now on Saturdays did cost me $250.00 in commission. It is not a two man store, might be time to poke around and see if there is any greener grass. Other words look for a better job.
I do like working for this company, but with having Shaun with me it going to cut into my commission and make this a $500.00 week job all the time. I know, I know, some of you would be tickled with making $500.00 a week. With my house payment and summer utility bills (electric hits $400.00 when it is hot) plus I need to make bigger payments to keep Then Bank Of Stupid from foreclosing I don't see how I can make it.
If Shaun was not at the store I stand a fighting chances. On the better months I have been saving for the bad months. In 4 months I have saved $835.00 so saving $200.00 a month for me is not bad. But with Shaun here, I just don't know.
Moving on

Here it is almost 11PM and it is still in the mid 70's outside. Sure glad the Air Conditioner here in the diner has been fixed. Nice to be able to cool down a bit... Where ever we are... Where are we BTW? Huh? Don't know? THAT makes two if us.
Barry, who was THAT? New guy eh? Hi new guy! Welcome to the diner! You got a name? Something a bit shorter maybe we can refer to when we want to talk to you?
Curt, not a problem! I sometimes have to wear a name tag to know who I am anyway. I always wear them upside down to make it easier to read them. (BTW my name is down in my signature....)
I see John (Der) explained the diner rules and did the introductions earlier....
I've been doing some remembering of stuff about the retired teacher (Librarian) who passed away a couple days ago. My favorite was about a 6th. grade Social Studies teacher who would, when he took the kids up to the library in the Middle School to do some research for the first time every year, tell his class, "Now remember when we are in the library that the librarian, Mr. McHale, is very hard of hearing. So when you speak to him please talk loudly and slowly!" They always did... Took Mr. McHale several years to figure out why that class was always yelling at him in the library. He also used to tell his class that the Aid that worked in the library (who was super obnoxious) was Mr. McHales wife..... Lots of fun when the mood got out of hand, should we say...... "I am Not His Wife, why would you think THAT... Stupid kids!!!" You know today we would get fired for most any of the stuff we used to do back then. I remember when the Principle found out about the whole thing. He first rolled his eyes, then got very red faced, and finally just started to laugh and walked away!
Gee, can't wait to find out where we are...... Hmmmm.
Prayers to all in need!
Time to go my before bed blood draw...... Fun.
Good evening Diners: A black tea would be good, thanks Zoe.

This would be a great time of year to visit Nova Scotia! Hopefully a bit cooler than it has been in the Finger Lakes today! Go for it!
Sfb:and au contraire, you made just exactly the right turn! This is a "There's no "Off Topic" thread that has a model railroad / Railfaning theme based on a 50s Diner set in an old rail car. Subjects range far and wide, and so long as we keep it polite, a-political and non-sectarian / non-proselytizing the mods treat us kindly. Work is considered by many a bad word, and many use w**k - but since I'm retired I'm not afraid to spell it out.(especially as for me it's more work to hunt for the * than to put in the "o" LOL) BTW, the Diner setting includes a sit-up counter with those pedestal stools, and since we're universally against the breed, it's called the Rivet Counter - or RC. I see from your signature quote you'll fit in with that too! The staff ( Zoe, Chloe - redheaded twins - Janie and Flo are off limits to the patrons, and the MC is Vinnie, Zoe and Chloe's cousin with "connections" sees we keep it that way, if you take our meaning.
So, please enjoy, and take some time to tell us about your mrr / railfan plans / layout / scale / era (pre-diesel right?)
I'd better get this posted so Galaxy knows where we're supposed to be in the morning.
Good night all, and God Bless. Prayers for those in need of Healing, Comfort, prosperity and Peace.

galaxy steamfreightboy: Once again, sorry if I sound short but could someone clue me in as to how this place works? Seems I made a wrong turn somewhere... Once a month the diner gets closed. ANd reopens for the new month. The real reason is the thread carries to many posts and drags down on bandwidth, so the Forum Leaders used to close it when it got to be around 60 pages in length. Then it was decided that since we tend to reach 60 some pages about the end of the month, we would open a new thread every month. All "food" you order here has no calories and is always free, unless you have to pay. see below: If you get your post on the top of the page...whip out your "imaginary Credit Card" to "pay for all the diners who come in and post on that page". the waitresses rely on good tips and usually deserve a healthy 20%. Cousin Vinnie over there tends to keep order so you want to be on his good side. Then there's Barry. he's another story. Come in, sit down, tell us about yourself and your day. There is no secret handshake or code words, no dues {except to pay if you get top page honors}. There is NO foul language here and "work" is considered a 4 letter word often abbreviated as "w**k". Try to steer clear of "fire topics" like politics, and religion. Have fun and enjoy!

Teen Steam- What grade are you going into?
Jeff- Although not a "Trekkie" I have the full Enterprise series on DVD. I recieved it a couple of years ago for XMAS. I really like SciFi a lot.
I like rear enders...we had one not too long ago when some dude ran into my car from behind going into a parking lot at the mall here...turned out he did not carry insurance, nor a drivers license, and, on top of all else was impaired in a stolen car....
Anyhow...Gooooooodd Evening!!

Got rear ended not ten minutes after school got out. Some guy hit me good and me and my buddy looked around thinking what the *&## Tomorrow the replacement should be here, so my Dad can paint it and a small piece of molding. Me and my buddy were the only ones who got out of the car. Cop was there and didn't do a dang thing. As soon as I can find the guy's insurance policy (If he even has one) and will turn it in. Not my fault.
