I think they have a Stuka at Wright-Patterson Air Force museum. They have a B-36 on inside display, but you have to walk on the cat walk to see it. The entire time you’re walking around the first hanger you don’t notice it, even though you are walking under the wings and occasionally walk around the landing gear, it falls into the can’t see the trees because of the forest effect. They have a couple V-2’s with motors in the third hangar. It’s a good museum if you get a chance to visit.

Bad news - my mom has been taken to the hospital again.
I will be going to my parents´ place tomorrow, to help out for a few days. My PITA brother is unavailable - what else is new?
Unfortunately, my parents won´t accept the fact, that they need daily assistance, which we cannot give, living more than 100 miles away from them. I haven been trying to persuade my parents to sell the house and move into a assisted living facility for many moons now, but they flatly refused to even think about it.
I feel awkward.

Two of my friends here at the lake are dealing with health problems. One just had an emergency heart bi-pass surgery. Another has cancer.
Speaking of old aircraft, we saw plenty of it in Tuscan recently. We visited the Pima Air Museum in AZ last December. It’s a huge place with a huge collection of aircraft. I replaced Snoopy.

Ulrich, very sad to hear about the continuing health roller coaster with your mother. This always seems to be the pattern, a few steps forward, a few steps back.
Two great museums mentioned above. Wright Patterson in Dayton has to be one of the pre-eminent air museums in the world.
Pima is nice because so much of it is outside. My Brother-in-law until recently, was a manager at AMARG (the boneyard) next door to the museum, so we got to have a personal tour back in 09. It is amazing seeing miles of planes mothballed in the desert.
Ulrich: I'm sorry to hear about your mother. My parents too are in the hard of hearing club when it comes to discussions about assisted living.
And while we're on the subject of parental health, my father is taking is taking my mother to New Orleans today to see about the possibility of a liver transplant. Her doctor doesn't think she can get one but you never know if you don't ask.

Hello all. I have my satellite dish and modem up and running so I can get online with my own computer now. To tell the truth though after using Jeff's computer for a few days mine seems like a snail. I guess satellite is slower than cable like he said.

Hi Flo, I can't have anything today because my mouth is still frozen. I just have returned from the dentist. I had to get two more teeth pulled. For some reason, they didn't want to come out on there own. Also, the top left of my mouth still droops. Tonight I go rockpicking. On the second thought though Flo, could I get takeout? I'll have fish and chips please. Blownout cylinder, mind if I ask what RC stands for?

Have pretty much felt like caboose most of the day. Napped a lot and finished a book that needs to go back to the library.
Go to the Dentist this coming Wednesday. Still have a little swelling but no pain at this point. I am off the Happy Pills so that is a good sign.
Good Evening fellas! Another very productive day here in the land of the Senecas! I got a good 6 hours of painting in on the K4 painting with little interruption. The image I'm using is a little blurred, so I brought my Bachmann K4 out plus a couple of good Pennsy books to help with the details.
Ulrich, sorry to hear about your Mother, our prayers are with you.
Ken, good luck with your tooth. I really feel for you. I still have all of my lower teeth, but I'd get rid of them if I could swing it!

We actually got about 30 minutes of rain today and it probably reduced the temp by 15 degrees. Just trying to finish off my shift at midnight and get some sleep. For some reason I have been tired most the day.
Question- What is the best way to center the tortoise switch machine?. I am talking about the black block on the front of it. I have been reading up on installation and I have read it should be centered before installation. The one I have been using for testing does not appear to move w/o electricity. I should be ready to start their installation next week.

LONE GEEP- Those in MRRing who want exacting accurate details-including the exact appropriate number of scale rivets in the side of a RR car or Loco - are said to be "rivet counters", as opposed to those of us for whom a few missing scale rivets are no big deal. Most diners have a counter for service. The counter within our diner here is affectionately-and appropriately- called the "rivet counter"....a play on words for MRRers.
Ulrich- Sorry to hear about your mother. SOrry to hear your parents won't consider assisted living but most older people want to stay where they feel the most comfortable..at their HOME. I imagine we all may be the same way when we get older and frailer as well. We may SAY NOW that we would, but you never know. I told my father {my mother passed away in 2003} that in looking for a house we are looking for one that has 2 BRs on the first floor so if he needs to give up HIS house he can come live with us. He said he would check into a home first before he would do that. He is only 76 and in relatively good health. Who knows what he will say/do/think when and if he gets into the shape where he needs to give up his house. Even I admitt, that while we are searching for a new house, I would rather be at home in our trailer than in a hospital or so. BUT, Ulrich, PLEASE seriously consider telling your folks what is going on wiht you, no sense you dropping dead in front of them because you are nto taking care of yourself and overdoing it helping them. DOes your bro know youjust had bipass surgery??? He needs to step up to the plate if he is close by to help out.
Well BBQ'd up a storm so we have pickin's for a few days and I don't have to slave over hot grill or stove long. Just miracle-wave {affectionate name for microwave} and heat-n-eat.
Nothing new on house front today. Got sent automatic emails with 2 new houses but in undesireable locals or too expensive. Our range is a lower end range so that is why we are having troubles,,,especially since the prices went up $10k-$15k almost overnight as spring got here. We are nto AT the botttom, but a few rungs up, and those that WOULD be a few rungs up jhave climbed a few more rungs higher and aren't worth it. If we could increase our offer by 25% we could be in diferent territory, and double would have us sitting very pretty. But alas , we have only so much cash to deal with.
Well, amybe we go to cold stone creamery for ice cream since i have a coupon that expires today.

Curt, the Rivet Counter came into being a while back when there was a bunch of "You're not a real Model Railroader unless" and the "I hate Rivet Counters" threads out in the main forum. After some really nasty exchanges THAT ended up with threads being locked and sometimes deleted, the term "Rivet Counter" was used here in the diner as has already been said. Generally some of us sit there when we want to talk about some specifics of modeling the prototypes... Completely a play on words!
Ulrich, very sorry to hear your Mom has landed back in the Hospital. My Mother was terrified of going into Assisted Living until she actually got moved in (there was no place else she could go after my Sister in Indiana kicked her out to save her business (A boarding house for Foreign High School Students) and her sanity... After she was there a week, she loved the place. I hope they soon see the advantages of being in a place where they can be professionally taken care of as needed.
The 57th. Annual Strawberry Festival at Church went off without a hitch and was well attended, and a lot of fun. Already put all the equipment away before coming on line.... For the last month the Physicians Asst. I am seeing for the Diabetes told me to start drinking a bottle every day of "Cheribundi" aka: CherryPharm. I found myself able to throw the speakers and amps around like I did 15 or so years ago..... Hmmmmm. The stuff is used by a lot of Athletes (NCAA uses it) to help repair muscles and joints after strong exercise. I am sold on it! Only drawback is the cheapest you can get it is by the case of 24 @ $2 a bottle... But, hey, I'm worth it. She wants me drinking it as a "side effect" is to lower Uric acid levels. mine has been very high for years. Joints feel much better now.
Can't wait to see what my blood sugar is before bed time..... I wasn't a good boy tonight!

I can easily get it here as virtually all the supermarkets stock it and I could mail some to you next time we are visiting our friends in Minnesota. We will likely be going there in a few weeks.
Ken, that is amazing to have actually flown in a B17. My favourite is the Spitfire. My sentimental favourite is the Halifax probably because Dad flew in one as bomb aimer and assistant pilot. Although he was in the RCAF he flew in an RAF squadron. The Halifax was about the same size as a B17 but they only flew with a pilot, no co-pilot so he got to assist on take-off and landing.
Stan, those sure are wonderful paintings you are doing! You really get the sense of speed and motion.
Maybe tomorrow I'll manage to get started on that underpass kit.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooood Evening. Did somebody mention strawberries? YUM! As a small child, my cousin and I cleaned out Grandma's strawberry patch. Picture a couple of little harvesters, 4-5 years old. THAT was us.
STAN: I wish I could draw/paint even a fraction as good as you do! The smily-face thing appears to be gone, otherwise there'd be a pair of "thumbs UP" here!
ULRICH: Sorry to hear about the latest troubles with your parents. I can understand them not wanting to leave. I was always taught THAT the elderly fear a trip to the hospital as it could well mean never being back in their own home ever again. Many see any form of "assisted living" or nursing home as some kind of elderly prison. Is there any way for in-home care??
GALAXY: I hear ya on being on the lower end of housing prices. THAT's part of how we wound up in God-forsaken Clarence, Iowa. Big house, "low" price, "low" property taxes. The same house just 20 miles to the west? Would've been $100k + rather than the less-than $70k we paid. Of course, THAT puts us 35-40 miles from Cedar cRapids, but for everything in life, there IS a trade-off. Continued wishes for good luck to you!

Who posted the pics of the aircraft boneyard?? Kinda sad to see all those F-16s, A-10s, and B-52s sitting there all wrapped and forgotten!!!!! I'm a big fan of the "BUFF" AKA: B-52. I've seen them on low-level training flights over NE Kansas... a beautiful sight! A stirring vision of proud men flying to maintain peace. "Peace is our Profession" was their motto as they applied the principles of deterance, or "one false move and we'll nuke ya!" as it was explained in the classic book Real Men Don't Eat Quiche! Years ago, my Dad and I would go to the Strategic Air Command museum next to Offutt AFB, near Bellevue, Nebraska. I think it was LEE who mentioned the B-36...they had one, as well as a B-52, B-47, etc., etc., etc.
My favorite WW2 aircraft? F4-U1 Corsair...Pappy Boyington's bird, preferably in the tri-color scheme of white underbelly and blue/gray topside. Also the B-17 and the B-25 Mitchel. The Stuka...an amazing aircraft, sheer tactical beauty in a wicked looking package!
I thought I saw some MIG-19s and a Russian knock-off of the B-58 Hustler fly by here a few days ago...forgot to comment on them! IF I'd thought about it, I would've found some F-102s and F-106s to make the intercept!!!
Speaking of the Ruskies...my Dad dropped off a recent copy of Air Force magazine with an article about the guys who sat on around-the-clock alert to keep the Commies at bay. "Victor Alert" was the name for it and the article had a photograph of an F-105 sitting in a Victor Alert concrete hanger, waiting for WW3 to start. The neat part of all this, it was an early production F-105D, assigned to the 49th TFW at Spangdahlem AB in Germany. In other words, it was one of the aircraft he w**ked on as he maintained the weapons systems. THAT's gonna be something to hang onto!

I tend to be something of a rivet counter when it comes to my own layout...I don't worry about whether others follow a rivet counters ways....one of me is enough...
