 Evening Folks

Flo I take a Beer please.

Well Today Pretty Much Blew Chunks! Besides coming to the dinner the best part of the day was the rest of the exhaust falling off the Dodge Daytona! Big Smile Dragged it for 12 miles to get to work. Did find a way to get it up of the ground for the return trip.

It was real Sloooow today. Only had 4 customers on a Saturday? Crying All 4 bought, but only 4?

I was told I could close the store if I was not busy today at 6:00 PM. But I ran into a snag, I need a delivery from our warehouse. 4 o'clock, no truck, 5 o'clock no truck. Got on the phone, truck was heading to another store, called the other store, no truck. Called the other store again at 6:00, no truck? 6:32 PM other store called and the truck was there. So much for getting off at 6!

Bottom line is truck did not show up to my store till 8:00 PM and the F&^% order was messed up! Bang Head Had a mattress sold we no longer carry so they just crossed it off list and never called and said "we are out of that one, what do you want use to send instead?" But Noooooooo, lets just cross it off and when Ken's customer get's to his store let him figure it out! Grumpy

They fired Mike (old warehouse manger) because it got sick at work Drinks sometimes. But rather he be Drinks or not, we got what we needed, was told if we did not have it and the trucks got to the stores and customers on time.

I take a drunk Mike over a sober Cody and day of the week. I will add, I would have fired Mike as well if I was the boss, but I sure do miss him.

 See you all Sunday.

                      Ken

Hi All,

Not much going on here. Went to  the train club for a while today. Got back about 2000. I felt like doing some modeling instead of running trains. Picked  up my 14 turnouts. I also acquired a free building I will be using on the 2nd track on the freight siding. I also got a work platform that I will use for my diesel servicing.

When I got home I painted my POP rocks and rock face. They turned out pretty well. I will post a picture Monday.

In honor of the diner's new location: Horeshoe Curve Circa 1930

Galaxy- Do you have the option to go to Wally World either late night or very early morning? We have a 24 hr one by us.

We Do have a 24 hour. I like to go early AM, but we got up too late today to beat teh crowds. I don't do late night as we are usually in bed by 9-9:30 PM.

Galaxy, that sounds G-R-E-A-T-!-! that  you’re going MRR layout-top (aka house) shopping! Bow Hope your realtor starts finding some better ranch houses for you soon. I guess great minds must think alike - I replaced my other wiper blade on my car this afternoon (got the driver side several weeks ago) at Auto Zone. Now you’ll get to draw up some new layout plans, with all the extra space you’ll have. Yeah

Yeah it's great BUT ranch houses here are typically at a premium over 2 story or capes. The inventory this year is low as people are hanging on to what they got instead of moving up to larger houses. It is not really a seller's market or buyer's market, but mediocre. We don't have to move right away so we have time to look and find the "just right" house...which sadly enough went on the market a month ago and within a week was under contract taht the agent assures me WILL go through {so we can't be second contractors if deal falls through}, but when I saw it online, I did not have the info that we would have a cash backer to help us out. Had I had that info, we could have waltzed right through and bought that house. Location, price, 3br/1ba {better than 2 BR which is more in our range}, dry concrete full basement, sizeable lot and city utilities including Nat. gas heat. would have been perfect. Only needed to buy new apliances to finish out. Darn!

Although some auto parts stores will actually install some things for you for free, I seem to take forever to do the "simple" wiper cahnge out. If I have it done paid professional when I do the inspection. I know I am good to go for new blades for summer. In the fall I will need an alignment, oil change or some such, so I will have tehm do it again so I know I have new wipers form winter weather. May cost a few busks but the piece of mind it is done is "priceless".

Hape everybody has a great evening!

Barry, you’ve been posting some interesting (commercial trackside?) photos - I was wondering on one if that was an aerial of a small yard, or a town with a couple of double-ended sidings for local industries.... Then there was that killer-sized multi-track-landing-whatchamathingee...Question

I found a lot of them at this site...http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=428585...all 1,215+ pages of it!!

Grilled chicken dinner and a coffee refill, please.

***Jim, I really like the look of that "junk yard". If it came already painted, that would be even better. Curious, does he sell them in both HO & N? My wife needs more junk (especially tires) for her HO layout. She's been eyeing the stacks of tires in the Walthers catalog.

Killed a bunch of cans this evening. Just doing my part to recycle them (target practicePirate).

Afternoon, Janie - I’ll have some cheesey fries with ketchup and a RBF, please ‘n’ thanks!

I'm back from Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s training for w**k (in Jefferson City, MO - about a four hour drive - one way. (Boring... “Can you say ‘useless’, Diners?”) It was for ‘Serious Incident Investigations’ - except I don’t think they ever got too specific about what makes ‘serious’, serious. Question And it seemed the info was oriented toward agencies who have residential facilities they manage, and need to investigate incidents where a client got injured (sorta to see if the employee needs to be fired or not). Not exactly related to crisis services. I asked our outpatient supervisor after I got back about whether they were planning to turn me into an ‘investigator’, and how the needs of that didn’t match at all with the time and chaos of crisis/walk-in services with us. From what she answered, it was apparently something the state mental health dept. requires all agencies to have somebody trained in. (Whew! Sure better, knowing THAT) Funny part was, they paid - between my mileage, expenses, hotel stay for 2 days, and my meals, etc. - about six or seven hundred to send someone (and there’s another person from our branch offices who still needs to go to another session of the same training). Not to worry - between the state and our agency, we’re all doing our part to keep the economy going!

CudaKen - Thanks for the pics of the BigBoys! Thumbs Up I’ll have to check exactly when, but UP is supposed to be running something (not sure here, it’s big, but I don’t recall if it’s a BigBoy or a Challenger) through Cape G. on the way to Little Rock and parts south, this summer. And man, your workday from you-know-where sounded like one to be done with ASAP and heading for home! I had to laugh at the store’s bank not wanting you to deposit the money for them. First time I’ve heard of a bank turning down money! Laugh Congratulations on your health improvements (reminded me I need to get my (sorta-kinda) annual checkup with my doctor set up).

For Garry. Robby and all the other Diners who’ve been w**king on a junkyard for part of your layout, this was my solution (purchased on that ‘Bay thingee):

I’ve bought other castings from the guy (look for seller name ‘bbudd1’), including some tanks (the oval, smaller kinds), couple of larger (commercial sized) propane tanks for industry placements, and he has a set of locomotive drivers and other ‘enginehouse scrap pile’ castings. I’ll have to do a little clean up on the castings and paint them, but hey, most of them are ‘junk,’ so shouldn’t be super difficult, right (I have rust-colored paint)? Smile, Wink & Grin And I have no financial investment in that seller (other than the money I’ve spent and consider I got very good value for, that is).

Jeff, many thanks for the photo of Ezra’s place - has a nice comfy look to it that I like! And I see that spring training has begun for the ball teams on your layout, too. SmileThumbs Up

Yeah

Ulrich, keep your eyes open and keep searching for a possible job opening this side of the Pond (maybe you could land a job with a company that could help you get a green card, so they could make use of your experience and business skills) Yeah On your delayed order, maybe you should have the mail woman set in down in a corner of the apartment and wait to see whether it glows in the dark at night, before you open it... OopsWhistling On your scenery order, you could contact the places online which have good prices and see if they could get in the items they don’t show, and hold your order to ship it all in one shipment. Some places are willing to w**k with you if it increases their order total - worth a try!

Barry, you’ve been posting some interesting (commercial trackside?) photos - I was wondering on one if that was an aerial of a small yard, or a town with a couple of double-ended sidings for local industries.... Then there was that killer-sized multi-track-landing-whatchamathingee...Question

Garry, congrats on the new (iMac) ‘puter, and feel free to email Ray or me with any questions. (As for it serving you many years, my PowerBook has had its tenth ‘birthday’, if that gives you an indication). There’s a good layout design program called RailModeller (made in Ulrich’s current country of residence, Deutschland) that’s affordable. How’ve you been doing, and have you made it back home for a stay yet? If so, where’d you go for an Apple Store? Louisville, Nashville, or...? (Jes’ call me nozy...Smile, Wink & Grin)

Todd, I have one of those rolls of the brown paper towels (which I got who-knows-where, several years back), which when I get to my scenery, will be used for the ‘glueshell’ method I want to try. (Got my P-o'-P at a hardware store in those wax milk-carton-looking things). Read about THAT in Iain Rice’s “Roque Bluffs” layout series in MR (or was it in the Jerome & Southwestern layout by John Olson?...). Anywho, I liked the idea of the ‘glueshell’ because it’s supposed to be a bit more flexible than using the P-o’-P and paper towels. But then again, I haven’t tried it just yet, so dunno. As for your layout’s name, you can always claim your RR is a branch of the T&P, that they took it over. Yeah, that sounds do-able, right? As for your ‘invitation’ to the garage-cleaning, yeah, it’s go or suffer the consequences (frostbite in the living room - to say nothing of how cold the bedroom will be at night - plus, your dinners burned or cold for the next month or two, etc.).Whistling

Rob, I like those canyons - they look rugged, all right! I’m picturing scrubby dried-up bushes, rocks and talus, with slithery things and such, crawling along through the underbrush. Wink

Johnboy - not sure if my PM went through okay or not. Let me know; the PM window was acting kinda flaky on me... Bang Head

Weather here in Cape G.-land today has been great - we hit 70 F (22 C) this afternoon, sun's out and all very good. If it's this nice tomorrow after church, I have some MRR stuff that will get spray-painted.

I'll chill out at the window booth and eat my Dinner while I catch up with Johnboy and the other Diners I haven't talked with for a while.

[Edit] Looks like I'll be covering the tab - take it easy, Diners, payday's not till Thursday for me...Oops

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Columbian coffee in a  SUNNY SOUTHERN  mug, please.

It's a beautiful sunny day here. Tomorrow it really warms up and I will finally be able to glue down the tunnels (pipes) and open the windows to air out the fumes.

Hope y'all are doing well.

Got the parents yard mowed. The tractor backfired when I shut it down (sounds a lot like a shotgun going off) and nearly scared the stuffing out of the neighbors dogs. Now I'm just recovering from being bounced all over. Those springs are stiff.

I’m back. Boy was I a smart feller. Or is that ?art smeller? Any way all is well as I showed up using the excuse of the dog needing a potty break for my tardiness. The dog does come in handy sometimes.

ANYway, she now has stopped in as I was viewing the video posted on another thread about the Mexican layout, when she stopped in and asked if I wanted Chinese for lunch. Of course I said “I don’t care” to which I got the look and I quickly responded “do you?” she said she did and I said “then I do too”. Today should go well for me.

Curt- That’s odd I use a brand I get at Menard’s. It behaves just as Jeff’s does by an hour it is dry enough to unmold and by the next day, it’s completely dry. Sooner probably for both, but that’s just how long I leave it for. I also like it comes in a plastic tub.

Ulrich- We do what we have too to keep what we want. Peace and quiet.

Odd. I thought she was going to go get Chinese carry out from Riverton, but she is still here. Maybe, I should go see if she meant she wanted to go to the Chinese Buffet. She didn’t say that

OH! I just remembered, The Springfield Model Railroaders club is hosting their trainshow tomorrow at the fairgrounds! Yippee!!! Looking forward to that. I must spend some time in the train room coming up with things I need. Maybe they will have the blasted rock tunnel portal.

She’s still here. I best go check before my day goes sour.

Good morning. It's 64° and cloudy. The high is expected to be 80° and there will be decreasing cloudiness.

I'm thinking about whether or not to mow my parents yard today. It can be just as easily be done tomorrow. I don't have anything special on my schedule for today.

Good Afternoon Folks,

well, it´s kinda late today - have been running errands the better part of the day. We will be having dinner guests tonight, so it meant several trips to the grocery store, the wine shop etc. Why didn´t Petra put all of the stuff she needs on one list?

Todd - don´t you ask question like this! It is a well known fact that inferior intelligence has to follow superior intelligence, That´s why you followed her to clean up the garage, that´s why i went out umpteen times to get those still missing things!

But that´s the way we want to have it (I keep telling myself - Sigh)!

It´s been a nice day today - sunny and really warm at 22° C. Our neighbours have all the BBQ gear outside - do I love those fumes.

Y´ all have a good one!

Jeff- My wife picked up some generic brand of POP probably from Jo-Ann's (she lives there). I used WS molds. the small rocks dried in a day, the medium rocks  about 2 days and the rock face took a good 4 days to dry. I sprayed the molds with wet water. The mix I used was 2 parts POP to 1 part water. I did leave them in the mold overnight then when I removed them I put them on a towel. After 1 day I moved them to a wire cookie rack.

I wish I had a wire rack to set stuff on. But then I would need the space for the rack too. Closest thing we have here to crafts stores are Wal-Mart and Nichols. I get my plaster of paris from Wal-Mart. I tried a cheaper brand once that I got from Lowe's. It didn't do as well. So I went back to the DAP. There's another type I occasionally get from Wal-Mart. It's sold under the 'Kids Kreations' name by Creative Crafts. It sets in about 20-30 minutes. It's supposedly perfect for any craft, art and hobby project. I still have two four pound boxes I bought some years ago.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a couple eggs over easy, side of bacon, and a double order of sour dough toast with Apple Butter to go along with my dark roast coffee this morning.  I'll be sitting at the Rivet Counter with Barry for a bit.

Currently 45°F with a bit of sunshine peeking through outside the door here in the Finger Lakes.  Might have a snow shower tonight, but no accumulation......  That's good as my sister is taking me out to diner tonight as a thank you for watching the kitties while she was gone and watching the kitties for her when she heads out to SC to visit some friends in a couple weeks....  Aren't I lucky?  This time it will only be for a week.

Todd, yep i remember THAT one!  Only difference is my late wife used to give me "THE LOOK", and then ask me how good my memory was............... Huh?

I need to  make a quick run down to the LHS for some tacky glue and then pick up a couple things at the Value Store (Do it Best).  Then I plan to spend most of the day in the train room.  Have a deadline on getting this project done.

Catch you all later!

Not much going on here. Washing my clothes then off to Jo-Ann's for paint that I  will use on my finally dry POP rocks. Then on to Lowes to buy a pressure washer. Later I am going to the train club. I picked up OT for tomorrow.

How long did it take for your rocks to dry? I use DAP plaster of paris and I've never had to wait more than thirty minutes at the very most for the castings to be solid enough to unmold.

The wife took her HHR to the dealer today. The catalytic converter was going bad. The great news-It was still under warrenty by less than 1000 miles! Whew!!

Lucky you. Those things are expensive. That was one thing I hated having to replace on my last car. I'm glad my van doesn't have one. That's one less headache for me. It's thirty years old and is considered a 3/4 ton cargo carrier and it never had a cat on it in the first place. They didn't even look for one on the inspection. They just looked to see that the pipes were good and didn't have any patches on them. There's an old trick here. If someones vehicle has a hole in the exhaust pipe the owner will sometimes wrap a piece of tin around the pipe and clamp it in place with hose clamps. I know, I've done it myself. The inspections here are pretty lax compared to what they are in other areas. Here they check head and tail lights, wipers, turn signals, exhaust pipes, brake lights, backup lights, warning lights, horn. Seems like they occasionally glance at the tires. Mine had brand new all-terrain tires on it so they didn't even get a glance.

Good Morning!! Coffee and a hot towel again please. Sinus pressure again.

Rob- I reeeeally like the looks of your bridge scene so far.

Ray- Why do you grab the tiny detail? Same reason when you kneel on the floor, you will put your knee down on the only rock on the entire floor. Or when dragging a cord over the north west corner of a 5 acre piece of ground somehow it will snag on the six inch tall ½ inch diameter something sticking out of the ground on the south east corner. No amount of shaking flipping or tugging will get it undone short of walking over there to un latch it, and throw it as far away from the obstruction as humanly possible. Only to find once you get back to the end your dealing with, by starting to move it again, the cord makes a record breaking flip flop and hooks over the same item again forcing you to walk…….well, you get the idea.

Today, like any other day, is a take it as it comes day. Haven’t checked the weather report, but looks nice out there. WAS gonna go down and w**k a bit on the layout and the room it resides in. But a few minutes ago, as Brenda was leaving to go to the garage in the park (she and a couple others are cleaning it out/up), she asks if I’m coming. In a tone that is akin to the way you’d say it if you were supposed to. I said "where?" and she proceeded to inform me that I knew she was going to clean the garage in the park. I said "yes I did but I never got it that I was “invited”". To which she said. “Fine” and leftIndifferent. CalmlyConfused Hmm Indifferent Indifferent. Now all you married, formerly married, or men with ANY experience with women know what THAT means…….I’ll be heading to the garage in the park.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Morning.

MOH is sick with sinus and upper respiratory infection and got antibiotics from our Dr. the ohter day. Now it seems I have developed an upper respiratory infection as well. Not good news for me as I am prone to brochial infections ans bronchitis, and to pneumonia. So I will be see our Dr. as soon as posible too. I cannot afford to wait to see if it "works itself out" or passes. I can go directly to pneumonia without passing GO or collecting my $200.

WE desparately need to do grocery shopping but it the first of the month, a Saturday at the first of the month, and Wallyworld will be VERy busy. All the Seniors and "dregs of society" will be out.  I do not do mentally well in crowds of people. I am claustrophobic and agoraphobic. Unfortunately we got up later this AM or I would have said "get dressed we go NOW". I like to go aobut 7AM as fewer people then. I think we can wait til mon or wed, MOH's days off.

Headache better obviously..I just wish either A} the weather wouldn't shift so much {i get a lot of migraines when the barometric pressure and weather front changes} OR B} the new med the neurologist put me on to PREVENT migraines would work.

So I think we can have a dead stay-at-home day today and commiserate our ailments together, after all it seems MOH has shared it with me. Sigh

House hunting is not going so hot. Inventory is low and we are insistant on a ranch house only. No 2 story, no cape, just a simple one-level living ranch. That limits us. The RE Agent sends us listings, but we aren't interested in what she sends and can't afford what we really like. My life story. One house she sent us is way out in the middle of nowhere {litterally} and their listing even says: mold and mildew may be present! With my respiratory problems we cant have such a house, nor am I willing to pay for remediation of either mold or asbestos before I move in!

Maybe I will go in search of the Holy Grail today and pretend I am a Nights Templar.

Well That's all folks!

Good evening ...

I'll have a Pennsylvania RBF please.

Rob .... If your railroad has a derailment, crews will need a toilet plunger instead of a big hook to clear the wreckage. Smile, Wink & Grin

Ray ... I know just what you mean about detail parts being vulnerable to damage. Lifting models on and off teh layout can cause broken detail along with colorful language from some. Grumpy

Curt ... I like the photo of the PRR FM switcher. I was told FM's have high hoods to accommodate the opposed piston diesels inside. I recall FM used diesels designed for WWII submarines.

Jeff ... Engine house looks good!

Duke ... I saw your recent post. Good to see you. I looked at some of the pictures.

There are several MIA's today.

Evenin' Folks!

I have spent most of the day decaling some passenger cars, and waiting for things to dry.  Right now I'm waiting for some dullcoat to dry, and soon I will be waiting for more glosscoat to dry.  I am also waiting on a bit of information from the NMRA Region Historian......

How come if a model has one very fragile tiny little detail piece THAT sticks out from it you always grab it at THAT particular spot or set it down on THAT particular spot???  As usual by the time I get done with this project I will know how I should have done it...Whistling

Hey Attaboy, I like the little picture in your photo!  I think I may have a bigger photo of it.....

I really like the other side of the bridge though...

Later!

A large brownie, please.

***Curt, there will never be any derailments in those tunnels/tubes, period.Whistling OK, the window side is wide open and offers access from that end with a claw grabber thing (don't know what they're called). If that doesn't work, I can always send in a maintenance train with crane & crew.Laugh

Tuckered out tonight so just relaxing and watching the boob tube.

Good spot for the diner Ulrich, right in my neck of the woods.  EBT is my favorite railroad, get there a couple times every summer.  And as long as it's in PA I'll have a nice big slice of that shoo fly pie and a glass of milk to wash it down.

Jeff- Thanks for the weathering info for the engine house.

You're welcome. Anytime you want to know how I did something on the layout just ask.

I was looking through my collection and realized I didn't have 'The Train', Burt Lancaster (1964) on DVD, so I ordered the wide-screen format. $10.

Hey all,

Not much going on here. The weather is nice here for a change. I believe the high was 81.

Flo, I would  love a piece of that Strawberry-Rhubarb pie if any is left with a coffee please.

Jeff- Thanks for the weathering info for the engine house.

Rob- That is going to be neat when it is done. The sulfur hills are very well done. I had never considered using tubing like that. Once it is permanet how do you access the tube if there is a problem?

Before work this week I taped up 2 tunnel portals and sprayed flat black in the appropriate areas for soot. I also did that to my coaling tower. Next time I will be able to model will be Monday afternoon.

I have the Walthers DCC/Sound version of this FM H10-44. I love this thing. Whenever I run it it reminds me of a old Chevy or Ford.

Well everyone have a great night.

Coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

Here are a couple progress pics on my (N) layout. Creating tunnels for the volcano and base coat of icing in the canyon. At least that's what it reminds me of....icing.Hmm

...and one overhead view with bridges loosely in place, except the middle one which is going to be replaced.

That's all for now. Cowboy Rob
