Saaaaaay, steamers. Question for ya's

How do you feel about IHC "Premier Series"? IIRC, they, IHC, were like the new AHM or something years ago. Bought them, morphed into them something like that. Somehow I'm under the impression to sorta stay away from their locos. I've seen some at the MRR shows and was not real impressed with some but others looked kinda nice, but the price, the variations in appearance and the lower prices, along with the idea I got somewhere, kept me from ever buying one. Irrregardless. The reason is, on thee-bay there is a little steamer from IHC "Premier Series". Now I'm a cheap ol dog so I wouldn't be bidding much if I do at all, but I don't want to spend hobby bucks on something known trashy either. So I was wondering is the Premier Series the equiivelent of Life-Like's Proto series? Or Bachmann' s Spectrum? Well, actually I hold Bachmann's standard locos in the Okee dokee catagory anyway,  but you get my drift. Life-Like, well maybe their ok but I just don't personally care for the way they look. Like they're on stilts or something. Anway, just wondering your opinion on them as that will influence my decision on whether to bid and how little. I mean much....Whistling. Remember it's me we're talking about here. I don't care if it isn't a Rolls Royce of a model or if there are better ones out there and the brand name, or should I say lack of,  really means nothing. As long as it's not just a display model waiting to happen, I don't really care what the brand name is or whether some will look down their nose at me for having one.

Good Morning!! Breakfast pile please. Scrambled, sausage and of course Dark Roast coffee and salsa thank you.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms before 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 81.

We’re getting the thunderstorm you asked for Rob. We don’t need to be cooled off, but it is a welcome thunderstorm for me. Gentle rain some thunder a little lightening …..calming, not mean or nothing. Haven’t had one of these make you sleepy thunderstorms in a long time. Lately they’ve been the head to the cellar with the Family Bible type storms.

Curt- The easing of the curves looks a lot better.

Ken- Take your voltmeter to the battery. Check to make sure you are charged. Hit the starter and check the cranking voltage. It should not drop below 9 volts. If it does, it’s likely the battery. Or both. But before checking that, use the amp meter again and check the amps before, which you have, then check it while you’re cranking, or trying to. Shouldn’t drop more than 50-60 amps. If it does it’s the starter. Probably. Maybe. If it doesn’t drop that much then it’s more than likely the battery. Or both. You should really test the battery with a load tester independent of the starter or your car to be real sure. You reall can't diagnose anything electrical unless you know the battery is good and the juice is flowing. 12 volts jumps no gap. If it passes all those tests, you’re looking for either a connection, yes the batteries too, you’re ground, both the one off the battery and that the starter bolts are tight, could be the relay, switch, shoot still could be in the solenoid of the starter. Jump to that and see if it cranks. Second thought, try that after the first two but only when the thing won’t crank. If when you jump the starter it still doesn’t crank, it is your starter, PROVIDING you know you have power to the starter.....,and the battery's good. (see?) If it does crank, just start going through till you find where there is no power when there should be. No biggy. Takes longer to explain it than to do it. Oh and if you get that far, don't forget the neutral safety switch, or the clutch pedal switch or whatever else they may have that keeps the little beasterd from starting when it's "unsafe".

Well toda….what? Today is one of those days that there is not much going on but enough that, again, it takes longer to say it. A few things scattered that should allow some train time off and on until we will depart from our station to a friends station where we will attend their Annual Daytona 500 Party.

Speaking of which, it’s after 6 now (yikes! going on 7!) so that means the Casey’s is open and that means donuts are available for purchase and immediate consumption. Now ya done gone and flung a cravin' on me. Glad you mentioned it

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

 Evening Folks

Flow, I take a grill cheeses with with onion, pickle and mustard.

Today Lets just say it was not one of my better ones. Only closed 3 of 6 deals today. Dead No word on a bounces for last month either. While sales dollars where still pretty good, my profit was down 3% over the month before. But, my commission is up so it will still work out to be about the same.

Was going to BBQ tonight but ran out of propane while burning my grill off.

Daytona front Still torn about what to do about replacing the starter. Starter is around $80.00 and install about $80.00. On the other hand a tow from work would be around $80.00 to $90.00. Guess I will bite the bullet and buy the starter to be safe.

Todd and JR Like your option. Went to pick the car up at the exhaust shop, hit the key, went click, hit the key again and a single click. Jumped the car and turned right over. Tested the battery and on the second load test I was down to 215 amps. But, with only 215 amps she fired right up.

I my mind, when I turned the key and the battery was low it should have either went click, click, click and not a single click. Or it should have cranked real sloooow! Like the site lately. Looking forward to your thoughts!

Robby P Congrats on the new job and hope you like it. I am lucky, I do like my new job (as long as I don't have a lot of days like today) but as of so far no benefits. (unless sitting on my butt and reading train magazines is a benefit)

Have a meeting before work, so I got to get to Zzz

Hey guys.

Well, talking about cars, I got the front end of my Jeep done. New sway bar end links, new shocks and the lift for the front is done. Next project is replacing the front door, fenders, and front bumper. Then I get to play with the rear end. WHOO HOO. Then there's paint.

And the Jeep also got a name, Black Betty. Kind of fitting because she's got black paint. My white trail Jeep might get named White Lightning. Dunno why but it just seems to fit.

Evenin' folks!

Flo, I'll have the NY strip steak, med rare, Baked potato, onion rings, and a trip to the salad bar.  Oh, and a cup of decaf, please!

I hope I have everything packed for tomorrow.  Still have some odds and ends to get done, but basically i am ready to go.  Got to remember to set the alarm clock.......  It will be early for me.  Have to be there by 8:30 to set up.  Doors open at 9 and the meet should begin before 9:30.  Got the "project" all packed in bubble wrap ready to be entered in the Model Contest.  Probably won't win anything, as it is not really finished, but it should have the intended effect....  I'll show you tomorrow night, maybe.Wink  OK, here is a teaser....

Got all the way up to 50°F this afternoon!!!  "We're havin' a heat wave..... Tropical Heat Wave...."

Later!

Coffee refill, please.

***Barry, interesting story. I saw that it had been modeled in Z scale. Can you imagine the damage an HO scale (or larger) model of that prototype could do to the finger of a careless model railroader?Laugh BTW, like that Mother Hubbard pic you posted. I'm still waiting for a nice N scale model of one to be produced.

***Curt, nice to see you making good progress.

Muggy day here. Kinda wish a thunderstorm would roll in and cool it off a bit.

Evening All,

Flo I would like a grilled cheese sandwich with tomatoe please.

Not much happening here. Temp got up tp 89 today, 90 tomorrow and 92 on Monday. The humidity is starting up now too. Tell me again why I live in FL?

Drove down to the LHS picked up cork roadbed, NMRA gauge, and some styrene strips for a future project. I also donated 3 sliding patio doors to habitat.

I fixed my yard and lessened the angle of the 2 mains that run along the yard. It is hard to see the change in the pictures but is significant to actually see it. Now there should be a lot less problems entering and leaving the yard.

Before

After

Blownout- What is that thing with the prop?

Robby P- Congrats on the new job.

Jeff- Glad your foot is getting better.

Gary- Neat scene. Guess the driver messed up.

Everyone take care.

It was nice and warm today when I went to the docs office and later to Wal-Mart to get couple twelve packs of diet Dr Pepper. Drove the beast (my niece's name for my van) so no a/c so both front windows down and the vent wings open. I wouldn't mind having something that's better on gas but life is no bed of roses. Just settling down now to watch 'Unstoppable'.

Strong Italian Roast coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

***Barry, that is a most interesting train pic. Any info on it?

I pulled one line of track w/ bridge into the volcano and reset it last night with more sheetrock mud & tile grout mix. It is still not super smooth, but at least now it doesn't resemble a Disney ride. Nothing else to report on from the train room.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Found 'Unstoppable' in the mailbox today.

Doctors report: The wound on my ankle is looking better than he's seen it in a long time. It is evident however that the foot has turned a little more and I'm putting my weight fully on the side of it now. He wants to get some of the big guys at LSU to look at it and see what can be done about straightening it a bit.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of hot oatmeal w/ brown sugar and a cup of dark roast coffee to start off the day....  What, yes I know it's almost lunch time.  just can't seem to get myself moving this morning.

Have a number of items that have to get done today for the Meet tomorrow.  If I can get myself into gear......

Ulrich, maybe they are using "Titanic Airlines" to move their freight???

Good to see things are running a mite faster this morning in here.  Sure hope they get the problem solved soon.  I keep wondering about the denial of service thing.  It is almost like someone leaves for the day and turns out the lights.......

Have a good one!

Good morning.

Oatmeal and OJ, please.

The layout will sit idle again next several days. I'm headed to Alabama again today. I think things have improved there, but many more problems remain. We'll stop in Nashville for lunch with Shelley's family. Next, I take Shelley to the Nashville airport for her trip to Michigan. Once more, she gets to be with grand kids while I help my elderly Mom in AL.

Here is my creative scene I made in recent days. It is next to the scrap yard, and you can see a corner of the fence in the upper left. It was funn putting this together.

Some of you may recall a conversation in the diner a few months ago about semi-trailer trucks and low clearances. Based on that conversation, I thought of this idea. It took a few months of other layout work before I reached a place for this scene.

Can you read the name and slogan on the trailer? ...or the name on the blue tow truck behind the trestle?

 Good morning old friends!!

Finally got a job, and its with a Distribution Center for Target.  GREAT pay, and benefits.   I also started going back to church, and that's really making a difference for me also.

June's MRR will have a picture of my work.   So keep a lookout.

I hope everybody is doing good, and I need to quit being a stranger.

Good Morning!! Coffee and a waffle please. Yup, real butter and real maple syrup thank you.

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 69. Gettin there.

Not much happened yesterday that I know of. I did get a few minutes in the train room. Ground up some more dirt and used some in the tunnel and……did something else but I can’t remember what. Whatever it was it wasn't much.

Today will be much the same I suppose. The last Fish Fry for the Church is tonight. Seems weird to not be involved as I can‘t remember not being there. This is the second year. BUT, I must at least get the startup change from the bank so I will have to get out today before w**k. Oh, and the grocery thing for the restaurant. Other than that, Pretty much nothing to do but play in the train room. Unless of course you count all the things I should be doing around here and at Mom’s house. But for now, I will just ignore them and let them pile up until one day there will be too much to do and I’ll be able to complain about too much stuff needs done in too short a period of time. All, once again, will be normal.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good morning. It's 72° and cloudy with a 40% chance of rain this morning. The high will be 86° and it will be cloudy, breezy and humid. There's a 20% chance of rain in the afternoon.

No layout work planned for today as I have an appointment to see the foot doc today. The drunks were out last night. I saw two of them leave my nephew's place.

Good Morning Folks!

Large sweet tea please.

Thanks all for the well wishes on the house, we submitted a fair offer of take it or leave, now for the wait.  On a positive note, if everything goes through, I will be able to start work on the model RR.  On another positive note.... with a slight downside Big Smile  I been planning a 4 x 8 layout for over a year in anticipation, of finally being able to build a layout.  Now, it's back to the planning stage, since I will now have a whole lot more room

The train came by and I got on, that’s when it all began

Good Morning,

it´s Friday and I still have hopes that my order of track will arrive this week. I am being told by Petra to have a little more optimistic attitude in life Whistling

Last night was pretty bad. I did not get enough sleep and the forum was dead slow again. After waiting for more than 8 minutes I just gave up on it. I´d say the Night Crawler has come to a complete halt!

Zoe, coffee and a breakfast bagel to go, please.
