Hey JIM, send me a PM, or "conversation" or whatever they call it now...or an e-mail and I'll let you know how to find our little hometown video sensation...Whistling Kit wasn't there, she helped-out my first year but quickly was disgusted to find herself serving 99% of the other wives, who only showed up to eat and beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeotch at their husbands.Super Angry The Chief's wife is a one-woman Ladies Auxiliary. Lon Butterbrodt's wife always helps, the rest just show up to stuff their faces and waddle on back out the door...

As for the Big Boy or Challenger (whichever one gets the run), nope....our route came up a few votes shy, THAT's why it'll be running in your area. 844 and the 3985 (I think) have both been through here, the 844 was in '96, the 3985 came through in............2002, I believe.

There, THAT oughta make you steam guys happy....

Chrishttp://i716.photobucket.com/albums/ww164/CUFFEMTP/8ball-1.jpg

Chris - that'd be except for Duke - you didn't show any Berkshires!...Whistling

Hey, I'll skip THAT link for your local Internet cutie - I try (very much) avoiding that kind of website... Keeps my Mac happy and running smoothly, when I don't go places that I know I don't need to be visiting. Smile, Wink & Grin

On a different note - I hope that Uncle Pete is sending 3985 - I like the looks of her/it better. Yeah (Drool...)

Jim in Cape Girardeau

[Edit]: Welp, looks like I have the midnight buffet to cover (and Ulrich's breakfast and lunchtime). Eat up, Diners, I'll be leaving my plastic with Chloe (but no adding Challengers of any scale on it, Chloe).

"Didn't you say something before about the old Robin's Rail PS-1 and RI; and the athearn BB ACF hopper and CNW? I have a chance to snag both, along with a Walther's RI waffle box, with a host of BN cars (which I know are legit). Anything you may know would help with me trying to make my roster a little bit more prototypical."

*rocks back on heels, thumbs imaginary suspenders, tilts cap back at a rakish angle*

Wellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll Son, pull up a chair and sit a spell....

The Robins Rail PS-1 is excellent for some of the RI boxcars CNW picked up on the cheap and put into the 722000 number series. It needs a plug door though. I couldn't tell you a "Youngstown" from a "Superior" plug door if you put a gun to my head. One's smooth, the other has exterior bracing. I use in-Accu-rate-Rail plug doors (exterior bracing) although they be a bit too small. The real ones had 10' wide doors, the AccuRail ones are, I think, 9', and I trim/file 'em to fit so they're actually closer to 8' when I'm done. But, they "look right," and THAT's what matters to me. CNW picked 'em up after the Rock shut down in 1980. With your era, you could use 'em as still owned by the Rock, or post collapse and buy-out in CNW patching. The Cheap and Nothing Wasted spent little time or money putting them in-service, only applying (usually) just enough paint to cover the RI reporting mark and car number. Some of the maroon/tuscan cars (with the huge ROCK ISLAND) had THAT painted out, others didn't. I go by photos of actual cars myself. *thumbs the imaginary suspenders and rocks on the heels again*

***EDIT*** I forgot to mention, it also either needs the Walthers extended coupler boxes or a Details West cushioned underframe. Details West also, I think, makes a plug door THAT might work, probably would need cutting/filing to fit also.

The Walthers waffle box would only need patching to serve the CNW. Again, I go off photos since no two car men did the patch work the same. Eventually, they made it to Clinton, Iowa and the car shop for some repair/rebuilding. Some got new doors in non-matching paint, others got the bright yellow (Zito yellow) paint. This would be in the mid to late 80s though. Again, depending on the car, you might need the extended coupler boxes or the Details West cushion underframe.

For the CNW CenterFlo hoppers...the Athearns are total and complete foobies. THAT said, I've got about five of 'em, probably six figuring the one in the 170000 series paint, THAT are being replaced by correct AccuRail and Front Range/McKean hoppers. For grain hoppers, the McKean/Front Range 4650 cu ft. is correct. For malt service, the AccuRail 4600 hopper. Athearn made a nice-looking CenterFlo in the "new old yellow" with large CNW on it in the 490000 number series. Total foob. The real ones are by Thrall and have only a passing resemblance to the CenterFlo. But, they're also the closest thing available. They started showing up in late '93/early '94 so way too new for your era.

*sigh*

Sorry you asked??

***EDIT***

JIM: Funny. I don't have the link, but I do know what she goes by...call it her 'stage name.' She ain't THAT cute, but she sure is...enthusiastic...and I hear ya about not going to "certain" web sites...THAT's why I'm kinda trying to be at least a little discreet about it all (while having a laugh), I wouldn't want our younger Diners getting involved in something they shouldn't...or get myself in a jam for contributing to their delinquency!

Evenin' folks!

Flo, just a decaf for me right now.

Packer......  It made it up to.....  Are you sitting down?  It was 79°F late afternoon today here in the Finger Lakes.  First time I have been outside without any kind of Jacket on since last early November!

I moved the small trailer from the driveway by my deck out to near the shed so I could move the Log Splitter sitting on the concrete blocks near the shed over to the driveway so I could fire up the old truck (started right up after sitting in one spot since last December) and hook the wood splitter onto it.  My son had a couple trees taken down at his house and wants to get a head start on next Winters fuel supply....  (read, his wife wants the mess cleaned up yesterday!)  We know of a couple other trees that are down for the taking and may end up heating our houses next Winter.

Went down to the LHS to get some Kadee Wisker type couplers.  They had them.  I found that some of the derailing was caused by the springs for the #5s sticking against the back of the pocket.  The whiskers will, I hope, be better.  I am also finding some problems in a few places with the trackwork that just needs some tweaking.  These are very picky cars.  They make my curves with no problem, but every now and then decide to jump the track for no apparent reason.  Funny thing is I can't replicate the problem.  I back the train up after rerailing it and run it through the same spot, at the same speed, and they go through with no problems at all....  I did replace a short section of code 70 rail that was not right.  have known about it for a couple years, but it wasn't causing any problems with loco or rolling stock.  The problem makes the coaches either derail, or incouple, so It has been redone.  I will check it out tomorrow.  I may also check the gauging of the wheelsets.......  Could be part of the problem.

Hope you all have a good and safe night.  Prayers for all in need!

 Good evening Fellow Dinners!

Flo, well thank you doll (brought me a Beer in a frosted Mono Mug).

Sir Madog

Petra thinks I am crazy. I have been running that loco ´round the loop for quite some hours today. You could say i am addicted to that. Never thought it is that much fun! Of course I am eager for more ...

Laugh

Ulrich We are just a little nuts when it comes to trains. If you think about it, we know what it looks like, we know where it is going and we know where it came from. So why can we sit there gazing at them for hours abound hours? Dunce  Beats me, but I do it as well. My HP cars all think I am crazy as the mad hatter. Whistling But then I point out I use to spend $1,000.00 to pick up .5 seconds in the quarter mile! Laugh

Looks like you have some extra track not used in the loop. Can you send me a list of what track you need next to finishes a module? I hope to get the box ready this Thursday and let the other folks know what the shipping cost is. If you could use the part numbers off this link.

http://www.katousa.com/N/Unitrack/g-single.html

(by the way, how do I make this a live link? I am using Firefox.

All so for later, give me a idea what you are looking for in the way of cars so I can do some searching.

Mark While I forgot your screen name, I remember Dune Cat. Now if the last time you where around was when we where talking Guitars, that would have been Christmas 2010. My daughter gave my wife and I a Less Paul for Christmas. I had to sell mine a few years back when times where tuff and we missed it. Next I hope to pick up a Gibson 335 to replaces mine I all so had to sell. I like the Less, but just a little small for me. The 335 was the best ,great for jazz, but still sounded great over driven.

Jeffery Man you have all the luck! Getting rid of a Wife and not costing you a Dime! Hum, while you where passed out, no never mind. You don't live in Veges, but did you happen to dream about Evils by chances? Smile, Wink & Grin

Work Front Getting back in the swing of selling, in other words not giving things away. I need to keep the margin at 60% or higher. My first month I was at 60.2%, then I started selling cheap and counted on our low cost to get the deal. Well I think I am over that now and getting back in the swing of things. Last 3 days I have had a 67.2% margin and I am still 20% less than the completion. Boy I like the new job! New company does take care of my commission as well! I made a mistake on a finances deal and forgot to list the Authentication code. (My bad) Old company I would not have gotten paid. Not here! They are overridden the system, that is another $100.00 in commission this coming Friday. Big Smile

I will see you all Tuesday (my Friday) and hope you all will have as good as day and I did.

                           Cuda Ken, your friend.

Evenin' all!

T'was my little brother's 10th birthday today. Had a good party over at my dad's place, the whole family was over there. Sometimes I feel like at these kind of events the family feels like one again; divorces ruin all sorts of things.

ROB: Man I wish it was just a decoder the blew! It was the actual Zephyr itself, the DCC system! There goes $200! Also, here's my youtube channel for you and anyone who wants to see my geetar playin': http://www.youtube.com/user/Hyce777. The older stuff is pretty bad; the newer stuff is better. Camera quality is horrible throughout, haha. I've been playing for just about two years now on guitar; drums for about six. It's only AC/DC and some original stuff that I've done.

CHRIS: Almost all of the Bosnians and Croatians I've met are nice hardworking people as well. Especially my Grandma. To immigrate from Croatia to the United States, not speaking a bit of English or understanding the culture must've been insane. Somehow she managed though; I'm glad she did.

JIM: Funny joke btw, mate. It seems like there are some LHS's around here; luckily I drive now so it shouldn't be a problem. That one was just special... I've been going there since I was a little kid with my Grandad, lots of fond memories. Bob, the owner is a real nice guy too. Sad to see it go. They had a website as well, although it was a little old-school.

VINCENT: No kidding man! It's been ages! Although I have seen you around from time to time in other places.

KEN: Good to see Dunecat is remembered. I don't even remember why I put it there in the first place, but I'll leave it up anyways. I've always remembered your username and avatar for two reasons: Cuda, which I've assumed always meant Barracuda, as in the car; and the 1968-1970 Dodge Chargers are my absolute favorite car of all time. The new ones are alright cars; but they aren't chargers. Four doors and a grill looking like that just ain't right. Once it loses two doors and all of it's aerodynamics, it'll be a Charger again, lol. I've played some Les Pauls. Real nice tone, although they weigh a ton. I love my SG to death. It gets pretty good tone, it's easy to play, it's smooth, and you have access all the way up to the 22nd fret. ES335's are nice as well, but WAY too expensive for me, being 16, haha. Maybe someday. For hollow bodies, I really like the Gretsch White Falcon. It's a giant hollowbody and it sounds real nice.

Alright, well I'm outta here. Take care y'all!

Chamomile tea, please.

***Mark, OUCH...that one is painful to the checkbook.

Back to watching THE GENERAL (1927 Buster Keaton) silent movie. Good for a chuckle.

Storm was a good one and did damage up the road. Will know if it was a tornado tomorrow I suppose.

Good night y'all.

Gooood Morning,

although I did not sleep much, I feel pretty good this morning. Could it be playing with my choo-choo train? If so, I need to talk to my doctor to get a prescription for more track  Whistling

Thanks to Jim, who send his rain over to us, we have a fair amount of that wet stuff pouring down on us. The farmers are quite happy - it´s been way too dry in recent weeks.

Chloe, coffee and a breakfast bagel, please!

Jim - yes, it´s true, I fee like that 7-year old again! Us model railroaders never grow up, don´t they?

Ken - I have now enough track to complete 4 simple straight modules an 4 corner modules, allowing me to set up an oval, which needs to suffice for quite some time. Although my passengers don´t mind riding the cab, my next purchase will be 1 or 2 passenger cars. My "LHS" is Hobby Search, located south of Tokyo, so I have to bite the apple having to add shipping cost. Anyhooo - it´ll take time, but it is nice to have a goal. Sent you a PM.

Today will see some more running the loco and a fair dose of daydreaming.

Have a good one!

Good Morning,

I’ve been trying to catch up on 5 days worth of posts…

In the last 5 days I worked in the train room annex in the basement; laid about 24 turnouts, approximately 60 feet of track, a couple of 60 deg crossovers, and cut the hole for the coal dumper.  The bench work is laid out in a horseshoe configuration and will be a point to point switching layout with a branch line connecting to the main layout.  I need to clear all the tools off the layout before pictures are shared, I don’t want you guys to think I’m unorganized or anything, LOL.  I also made some new molds for scrap piles, 55 gallon drums, and stacks of old tires.  When I move back to the main train room there is a long spur that I plan on installing a scrap yard.

The furlough was cancelled at the 11th hour, but we are working under a continuing resolution until Friday. Hopefully they can pass a budget by then.  Regan, Bush, and Bush cancelled Congress holiday vacations until they passed the budget in the past, maybe that was a smart thing to do.  I was a little upset to learn the 3 week continuing resolution was passed to allow Congress to go on spring break for 10 days out of the 14 day CR.  They only “work” 6 months out of the year, I think they need to tighten the belt and take care of business.

Monday I get a tooth worked on, so I might have a long weekend…

Thoughts and prayers to those on the sick and injured list…

Ulrich, I use a pin vise and drill bit to add holes in the railroad ties, I found it works better than a Dremel.

Curt, why would your yard need to be isolated?  Mine isn’t and it’s a double ended yard.  Did you bolt the sections of the layout together?

Garry, love the tow truck scene!!!!!!

Hoople, good to see you in the diner again, I would ask your favorite LHS to refer you to a different hobby store.  I did this 10 years ago and love the new LHS.

Good Morning!! Coffee and a Mexican Omelet please. Thank you.

Sunny, with a high near 65.

Mark- My, my you are doing very well on the guitar! Lucky for me you are a fan of AC/DC instead of some other noisemaker. I do like AC/DC, their music does have a tune.

Rob- Glad to hear you were spared the damage.

Ok folks, question here. What’s the easiest way to type well without learning how to type. I spend more time correcting than I do anything. The results you see are me just giving up and saying “enough“.

Hey Inch! Glad to see you’re still kickin’! Been doin anything on the layout or have the grandkids been keeping you too busy?

Now we know what Vinnie does when he’s not here. I always wondered where he skates off too.

Yesterday I didn’t do much again on that little world of mine. I worked on the coloration of rock faces for which I absolutely suck at. Course we’ve talked about this before so no details. Something I just have to live with. Which compared to those who can’t see at all, I’m happy with my tiny problem. Then I attached a couple three of them to the cliff side. I’m working my way around the peninsula slow but sure. I need to cast a few more rock faces. Might do that today.

I really should change the oil in the mowers today so I can mow grass tomorrow. Maybe even mow bit today between w**k times. Confused I think rocks take precedence. I have until 1030cdt to get them cast, starting…..now.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Todd - That's a clever video. When I showed it to the wife, she yelled "That's you."  A statement which I reject and resent. Let's see now, what were we talking about?

Morning folks!

What's this ball in the sky? It's so bright! And why isn't it raining???? I'm so confused... Oh seattle.

LEE: Well they closed for good last Saturday. Perhaps I can still email Bob, the owner.

TODD: Thanks mate. Good to find another fan of AC/DC. AC/DC is one of my two favorite bands; AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. I like a ton of other bands and music but those two are my absolute favorite. I love Led Zep because it was the first rock music I ever remember hearing back when I was 8 or 9. I got into AC/DC actually because of guitar. I remembered my dad saying something about AC/DC's music being simple, so I started to learn Highway to Hell, and I really liked the song, so I started browsing around at more and more... I was really liking AC/DC a bunch when I heard they were coming to town on the 31st of August in 2009; and then my dad, uncle and I went go see them. My first rock show... AC/DC, the Tacoma Dome. That was AWESOME... I don't think I would care much for them anymore if I never saw them live though. The concert just happened at the right time... If you ever wanna see me do a specific AC/DC tune, I know a pretty good number of 'em or I could learn it real quick. Just lemme know.

Alright, that's it for now.

Morning folks! Chloe scrambled eggs with sausage, potatoes, onions and tomatoes please? :)

I've had a fairly physical last three days. Saturday afternoon I helped put in an herb garden, Sunday I walked the long walk for the National MS walk, and yesterday I spent six hours working on farm project my friends and I initiated last year. The sun had been out in full yesterday and I my fair-skinned face is a lovely shade of sunburnt white boy red! Thankfully I have a large thing of after-sun that I'll be drenching my little face with.

Morning  All,

Flo could I get a cup of java please-heavy on the caffeine.

At w**k today. Supposed to be in the mid 80's with rain later (cold front going through).

I know a lady in another group that was in the middle of that tornado in Iowa. Luckly she is OK,  just some damage to her porch. She spent the night in her cellar with her 2 skunks. She says it's pretty bad there. I have been in numerous hurricanes over the years but no tornados, they are amazing to watch but scary as heck..

Last night around 2230 I decided to cut and pull up a small section of flex track and a switch going to my coaling facility. I am going to move the switch  2-3 more inches toward the facility to allow more curve going into the switch. What I had laid out looked kinked to my eye. I gauged it and it was OK, and  I hand ran a box car over it without a issue but it just didn't look right to me.

LSWrr-  I am not sure if there will be a electrical prolem or not. There is one section by the engine house where there are 3 switches going to 2 tracks. Since electricity is like magic to me I am second guessing myself. I have tried the analogy of water flow but for some reason my brain just doesn't make the leap. When you enter the yard initially before branching out there are 3 main feeders. I plan on powering them for the yard. The switches that I am using are Atlas #6 and PECO Insulfrog #5. I figured I would check at the club to be on the safe side.

Everyone have a great day.

Good morning. It's 63° and sunny. The high is due to be 82° and sunny.

Darn sinuses have my inner ear blocked up and it's somewhat difficult to keep my balance as my head keeps wanting to spin. Allergies, gotta love 'em. Wish I had a job to stay home from. At least then they'd be of some use. Looks like I'll be staying inside today. No more divorce letters so my pleas of mistaken identity were apparently accepted.

WE WEnt and took the first 3 hours of the 6 hour safe driver course. Take the other 3 hours later. Will save us the cost for both of us in one 6 mo. premium. will save aobut $75 or more over 3 years for a cost of just $24 through AARP. Not a huge amount, but enough to make suffering through it worth while.

A nice day it turned out to be and not TO warm in this tin can we call home.

WEnt shopping yesterday to stock up on a months worth of groceries or thereabouts.

Time for an afternoon nap as I haven't slept well in 2 nights.

WEll hope everyone has a great day.

Coffee in a SUNNY SOUTHERN mug, please.

The Heljan (N) bridge kit arrived today. Looks pretty simple to put together. This is the bridge which crosses the main canyon on the line which runs to the volcano mining operation.

Made a run to the feed store and my wife ends up with a couple baby geese. Presently they are chasing 4 of our 5 remaining grown geese around the paddock. The 1 older, mature goose is talking to them and hopefully will adopt them shortly.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Afternoon guys

Got that paper finished up today. Wasn't too bad once I got rolling. But I still have a disdain for that kind of writing.

Chris, Thanks for the info. Especially about the zito yellow (I've actually refreained from buy Zito yellow cars cause I though they were a 90s thing) being an 80's scheme. I have a few of the Walther's cushion pockets left, but I'm out of Kadees. Either way they'd be on the backlog with all the other project I have going on. (either don't have the money, or the time)

Ray, What's the humidity up there in the Finger Lakes region? Down here it's usually quite high. Today was pretty nice, 82 or so with low humidity (what's up with that)

Be back in later. Waiting for the car to cool off so I can replace some of the really brittle vacuum lines.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Afternoon folks!

Flo just a RBF for the moment.

Packer, humidity?  Best answer is variable...  On a good cold sub zero Winter's Day it could be less than 10%, hot Summer's day right before a storm.. 110%  (Yeah I know that doesn't happen, just feels like it).  Right now a comfortable 50% humidity, tomorrow will be rain most of the day and they are predicting about 80% humidity average.  Around here if you don't like the weather, just wait a minute.

Back to the basement for me.  I have a layout to build!

Cape Jim, yes it was her mother that chewed her out.  And her son that snitched on her and told her mother that she refused to sign the divorce papers.  Would have loved to be a fly on the wall during that discussion.  Her mother is good woman and nice person.  I can just hear her saying something like that.

howmus, got you beat on the temp yesterday.  Hit 88F here in central PA.  Slept with the ceiling fan on all night for the first time this year.

Good Evening..

Seems to have been a rather slow day here somewhat...

I've managed to get a few things done today..mostly of the medical appointment variety..tomorrow I have my ICD checked out...then I might get a chance to get a few things done on my layout...

Chloe, I'll just have a coffee and a piece of that Blueberry pie as well, please...I'll be at the RC for a bit....

Hey Yall

Chloe, same as blown out.

Well, I got a lift kit installed on my Jeep. That actually went kinda easy. No longer scared about messing with that sort of stuff.

Rock and roll- AC/DC is awsome. But you guys forgot Lynard Skynard, Ted Nugent, and Guns and Roses.

There is one band I listen to from the UK called Status Quo.

Not much going here. The diner has really been slow today.

Howmus- That is a great photo.

Teen Steam Fan- I like your taste in music. My favorite rock band and I believe the best rock band of all time is Led Zeppelin. I also like AC/DC and  Pink Floyd.

Have a good night.

My favorite bands are more along the lines of Daevid Allen's Gong, Hawkwind, Magma, the Damned, AC/DC, Molly Hatchet, and such....

Curt and Teen Steam Fan, I like much of that music, in particular Pink Floyd. Another hobby of mine is collecting CDs and their greatest hits album is my all-time favorite Pink Floyd piece if not my favorite album ever. I'd have to add to that list of music, The Beatles, Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana.
