Good Morning,

I was only 7 pages behind in posts this morning. I built 5 RIX tank kits this weekend and re-painted a MANTUA combination caboose. The tank kits went together very easily.  I hope to post pictures tomorrow after Dorothy’s surgery appointment. She is having her gallbladder removed.

Today; sunny and maybe 50F, Saturday we had 3” of snow after almost 2” of rain.  I bought a plug for my basement floor drain and it paid off.  Neighbor’s basements flooded Thursday night and Friday afternoon. City truck came out and pressure washed the storm drain on Thursday, obviously that didn’t help.

Robby good to see you back in the diner.

Ken, I feel your SSI pains.  My kids were able to SSI for a while.  Every 3 months we stopped at the office and turned in our pay stubs and everything was fine.  I got a raise and we didn’t qualify any longer then we got a letter that said we had to re-pay everything we ever got because we didn’t qualify with the most recent pay stubs.  We went back in with copies of all the pay stubs and all the past tax forms and everything was ok.  Then we got a collection notice in the mail 3 weeks later that they were going to garnish my wages to recover the last 3 years SSI.  Went in and got it all sorted out then they took $150 out of my pay.  I just don’t trust those SSI people, granted that was back in the early 90’s and I’m sure service has improved greatly, NOT!

Galaxy, sorry to hear about the MIL, prayers your way….

Rob, I use suitcase connectors, I’ll post a picture….

Garry, I hope things get back to normal for you soon…

Still getting adjusted to being in NC.   Things are still going pretty good, but I need a JOB soon.   It just sucks companys take so long to call.   Plus my phone has been ringing for interviews in PA, well they are about a week to late.

Ron......Shelby has changed since I've been here (three years now).    Its just a growing city!!

Lee.......Is good to be back in here.

Good morning. It's 59° and cloudy.  The high will be 72° and there's a 50% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon.

I went with my father yesterday to see my mother at the hospital. He's been having to keep track of what room she's in as they're bouncing her all over the place. As to what her problems are they're still guessing. She's a little better physically but mentally the lights are flickering. One minute she would be talking with all of us (myself, my father, my older sister) as she normally would then the next we were all strangers to her. She just shifts back and forth like that. In fire dept business a new pump was ordered for the brush truck and construction of the new pumper truck continues steadily. We've been getting the existing pumper truck ready for transfer to our sub-station at Empire Point.

Mornin' everyone!  And a fine Morning it is....

Zoe I'll have have a breakfast bagel w/ cheese and a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug to start the day out right.

Sunny outside, currently 26°F on its way up to 40 by mid afternoon.  Won't be much "white stuff" left on the ground here by nightfall.  Other than the run to Canandaigua to feed my sister's cats, not a whole lot going on today.  Hopefully I will get to do some more w*rk on the engine house...

BTW, the little tiny tools are supplied with SS Ltd. belt drive equipment kits.  The hammer is part of a laser cut tools card from GC Laser.  The card is made of an extremely thin plywood.  Paint them first on the card, punch them out, and finish detail with a very tiny little brush in my collection.  Not really that hard to dao...  I do need to wear the Magnifier headset though!

Wonder how Ulrich is making out with his Mom?  Hasn't been in for a few days?

Hope you are doing well and having a good day!

Afternoon......  Uh.... Hmmmm.  Nobody here....  (Sniff, sniff) Not me, I showered this morning....

Oh Zoe, you're still here...  I'll have a toasted Tuna/Cheese Burger with fries and a glass of Dr. Pepper please.  I'll sit over in the corner and catch up on some reading.

Currently 23°F or 31°F outside here in the Finger Lakes...  Depends where on the Weather Channel page you look.....

For any of you that like Trains (1/1 scale) and commercial sounding Country...  You might like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Uq2qE_bvII  Video was shot by one of our guys out at the Museum.  Have no idea on the music........  But the guy who wrote it evidently likes the LA&L.  It is a shortline that runs from just South of Rochester, NY to Lakeville and Livonia in the Southern Teir of NYS.

Yawn....  best get going.  Have yet to do my daily trip to Canandaigua.

JEFF: Who's building the new pumper for your FD?

RAY: What magnifier do you use to see them itty-bitty, teenie-tiny pieces parts??? I believe I'd be using words I was told to never speak if'n I was to be trying to paint those!

BARRY: (I think it was you who asked), the papers can be found at www.soloneconomist.com and www.northlibertyleader.com. My on-going photo portfolio is on Flickr:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/chrisumscheid/

The self-defense article is bogging down. The local legislator has asked the guy who is sponsoring the "Stand Your Ground" bill to respond. He hasn't yet. For sure, I know the Sheriffs and County Attorney's are opposed, citing the return to Dodge City. I still have to slog through the Iowa Code to find the applicable law(s).

Oh joy.

Oh rapture.

So far today, I've sent out about a dozen e-mails to various contacts on various in-progress articles. Whomever responds first will decide what articles get written when.

The joys of a "free-form" schedule!

Have a good-'un people!

RAY: I almost purchased one of those when I was w**king at the home healthcare place. They ordered them in from time to time for some company THAT had an account with us. Now I wish I had... The thing looks uncomfortable...but apparently not? How long did it take you to get used to having THAT thing on your head?

Oh, and sorry about "sticking" you with TOP...hee hee hee

JEFF: They didin't have pics or a working link to the CAD drawings for your Engine, but since it looks to be a Central States (et. al.) product, you guys will do just fine. We got a Central States/Freightliner when I was with the FD in Central City. It replaced the engine we rolled. "New" 184 was and is a solid truck, never had a problem with it when I was there. THAT was back in '97, she's still soldiering on today as the frontline pump. Can't wait to see when they get your rig done.

I 'spose it's about THAT time, the time Rerun wakes from his afternoon nap and insists on a trip outside to inspect the property and make some deposits...

We thought about going with Frieghtliner but got the better deal with an International chassis and our attack tanker is on an International chassis. Completion date for the unit is in June.

JEFF: Yup, International/Navistar makes good stuff, THATs what we've got here in Clarence. It's also probably what the "new" pumper (new to us) will be. I guess they're finally starting to look at used rigs after finding out several months ago THAT we don't qualify for a FEMA grant due to too few runs. I haven't made a truck committee meeting, or a regular meeting either for THAT matter, for awhile...so not sure what they're doing. There was talk last month of Riverside (future home of Captain James T. Kirk, USS Enterprise) having a truck for sale, and of some guys going to look it over along with a trip to the casino there.

"Attack Tanker," THAT's a new one on me... Our tanker will do "pump and roll" for field/ditch fires, and we had a tanker in Central City THAT could double as a pumper if need be, never heard of an attack tanker though. Maybe a southern term???? Around here, an "attack" is generally a mini-pumper kind of beast.

How's your foot doing? What's the latest on your mother??

Our 'attack tanker' can do stop and drop, pump and roll, serve as a relay pump, draft and pump and serve as an attack truck for anything from a grass fire to a major structure fire. With the exception of a large pump (it's only 350 gpm) it carries everything needed to fight just about any type of fire we may come across and can carry twice as much water as the pumper. Our existing pumper carries 1,000 gallons and is on a GMC Topkick chassis. We've had so many computer problems with it that there was NO way we were going with another GMC, ever. Ever had the emergency air brake lock up when you're going down the road and there's nothing wrong with the brakes but the computer thinks there is? Been there and done that. Ever had the pump panel (secondary) throttle cut out because the computer suddenly 'forgot' it was there? Had that happen several times. The real beauty was when the computer 'forgot' what gear the truck was in and kicked in the PTO, IN TRAFFIC!. We heard about the same kind of things happening with other depts that had the same type GM truck chassis and electronics. The GMC will go to our sub-station where it will see minimal action. A backup vehicle if you will. As for my foot, X-rays done yesterday show that a piece of bone broke loose from what's left of the ankle joint within the past few weeks and is reattaching itself in a slightly different spot. As for my mother's condition, she has shown a little physical improvement, nothing to shout about. Mentally not all the rooms are lit. My father, my sister and I went to see her yesterday. At times she recognized all of us, at other times we were complete strangers.

 Evening Folks

 Flo, a Beer please.

High Light of the day was going to the bank for change. They had $40.00 in Kennedy Half Dollars waiting for me. Big Smile Lot tougher getting them these days. Will be heading to the Local Coin Shop to pick up some supplies Wednesday or Thursday. Makes saving just a little bit more fun.

Only thing I was told did make me a little sad, with silver prices being up so much 64 to 70 Kennedy's Half's are being melted for there silver content. Guess the same faith for all affordable coins with silver in them.

Well, if that is all i have to complain about, guess it was not that bad of a day! Smile, Wink & Grin

      See you all Wednesday.

Evenin' Folks!

Flo, just a decaf for me.  I'll go sit by the stove in the back for a while.

Chris, Actually the Magnifiers are quite comfortable.  I hardly notice them on my head.  Very, very useful at times though!

Still no Ulrich in here.......  Hope all is well with him and his parents.  I'll say an extra prayer for him tonight.

I took a day off from the engine house project and did a few other odds and ends in the layout rooms.

Have a great night folks!

Good Morning Folks,

Yes, I am back. I don´t know for how long, but I will try to come here as often as possible.

Yesterday, we took my mother home. Her general condition does not allow any surgery to be performed and it is most unlikely that she will recover to an extent where a surgery could be done. We all hope and pray that she will live to celebrate my parents´ 60th wedding anniversary in June, but the chances are minimal. Petra and I are now looking for an assisted living facility close to our home town to have them near us and also to be close to my father when the time comes. For the time being, I have arranged for help at my parents´ home.

No news from the train front. I had ordered some pieces of track and a power pack from the German distributor of Kato products, but most of the stuff is not on stock, so I will have to wait for weeks? months? years? to get it. My mind is not set on MRRing, so it really does not matter.

Have a good day and blessings to all of you!

Good morning.  Lots of rain today, Crying.

I have a interview this morning, but the thing I don't like its with a temp service Blindfold.   Its something I guess for now, but I'm just not a big fan of the temp companys.    Lots of rain today, so that means I'm staying in.

Good Morning!! Fried egg sandwich please. Coffee too thanks.

A chance of drizzle after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 49.

Ulrich- Sad news about your Mother. I shall continue to pray for her and your family.

Piddle around day for moo-ahhhh. That’s French for “me” by the way. Probably didn‘t sound familiar what with the Midwestern flair thrown in and all. Nice thing about us United Statsians, we’re multi-lingual. Ripped off, butchered and mangled words from juuust about every language out there. Got that goin for us.

So...., WHY, do they make people like me change settings? WHY!!!!? They know not the aggravation they set themselves up for. Casscomm, my ISP and email provider, changed e-mail servers today to Googley gmail. Sent out this letter explaining what you need to do and even included a link to a step by step site at googleygoo. Easy right? WRONG!!!! It will not work. I have no e-mail access now (no real big deal I guess. I don’t check it that often and I can access it through Googley instead of Outlook Express. But THAT‘s besides the point!) I must call Casscomm (sometime) and first, ask if they’re busy. Second, ask why they changed the servers when the other was fine. Listen to something about space, money, efficiency and I‘m sure how much better it will be for me, then finally, and most important, ask why do they leave it up to people like me to change settings and tell me what to do when the thing doesn't do what it's suppose to do. To which they will respond something like “oh you poor bumbling simpleton. Would you like a cracker? Maybe you should find someone who at least understands basic computer stuff. Do you have problems setting the VCR clock?” To which I respond, “No. It always reads - - : - - . No problem. It came that way. I'm used to it.”

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!
