Jeff, What are the chances of bringing in another trailer to expand your room?  Additional space would make it much easier for you to get around in there.  >>BUT<< also that much more to keep clean.

Slim to none and Slim just left town.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have the Eggs Benedict this morning along with my pot of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR Museum mug.

Currently either 29°F or 35°F here in the Finger Lakes depending on which spot on the Weather.com page you are looking at....  I can tell you that the sun is shining and it should be a pleasant day outside.

Todd, so old Willie is "On the Road Again" huh?  Did he bring along "Trigger" to play for you?  He is just about the only Country Artist to play a classical guitar you know.  Always rather liked his songs.  So you had the elbow macaroni covered Michlob bottle sprayed with gold paint too?  We used to use the Wine bottle candle holders back when I was first married.  Got the idea from a fancy Italian restaurant right near the LV Sayre Yards.....  Didn't mean to start something over in the WPF thread. Smile, Wink & Grin  We even bought the multicolored candles so we could have THAT well used look on them as the wax coated the bottles.  Yep the 70's were fun!

Jeffrey, your updates on your layout look very, very good!

Rob, I'm enjoying your progress shots as well.  Excellent work!

Best get moving, I have lots of little things to get accomplished.

Later!

Whistling

Good Sunday Morning All,

Well "GOOD" is somewhat tempered here as it is >>>snowing again<<<.  and this is suppost to continue to the end of the month, so says the weather guessers.

I think the "PASS" idea is a good one.  I was involved in it years ago when I was young teenager. I believe it first started in the Kalmbach mag called "MODEL TRAINS" which was geared more to the younger crowd. Then as I recall it moved on to Model Railroader.  I still have those early passes in my possesion and every now and then I look through them and wonder what became of those pikes as many of the owners would have passed on. And then I wonder how many of the younger fellas from back then are still in the hobby.

I would be glad to participate again, but as we all know things have changed quite a bit in our world and one would not be posting his address in the magazine or on the web to avoid these problems.  So what are the ideas out there of how to proceed. Will it only be electronically done or will the addresses be exchanged through PMs.?  I actually have passes printed. I did this several years ago when I got an offer through an out fit in the Caribbean called Vista Print.  I think there was 250 of them for the price of the postage.  Thumbs UpThumbs Up

Well, here  I sit at work again this week end and boy is it ever slow right now. Can just watch and count the snowflakes, well not quite but almost.Sigh

Had a few new ideas about that bridge I had mentioned. I am looking forward to getting the 3/4 bath finished so I can concentrate  on that bridge.  I really need it done to get my third line (branch) operating.

Jeff, What are the chances of bringing in another trailer to expand your room?  Additional space would make it much easier for you to get around in there.  >>BUT<< also that much more to keep clean.

Well I think it is time to have a little grub as I left home this morning without breakfast.  And I might just fade away in to a shadow of an image of what I used to look like. ------NOT-----

I hope you all have a fabulous Sabbath Day, with lots of good visits from family and friends and good grub and health as well.

Sir Madog

Girls know that they have to kiss many a frog to find a prince, but what do boys have to do?

Be a frog!!! Whoo Hoo!Kisses

Good Morning!! Coffee and the Big Breakfast Special the same as Ulrich please. Yes Dark Roast thank you.

Willie Nelson has still got it! Of course if you don’t like him, I’m sure it would have been a loong hour and a half. I thoroughly enjoyed the show.

RAY! I saw in WPF where you too had the bottle covered in macaroni. Did you also have the two Michelob bottles glued together mouth to mouth, a string glued to the bottle in whatever design, a flared saucer of….can’t remember what we used, glued on both bottle bottoms and the whole thing covered in aluminum foil? By the way, a couple wine bottles work as well and make for much taller and more impressive candle holders. Perfect for those special occasions. Cuh-LASSY! And probably worth more as they are bigger too.

Jim- sorry about the “date”. I suppose it’s better to find out she wouldn’t work out before you sunk some bucks into the relationship. I can identify very much with the way you described all the little things that add up. For the most part, I have it very well and my complaints are all about “little stuff”. For that I should be grateful and I am. But you are right, get enough little stuff going on and suddenly a little thing pushes you over the edge. The “straw that broke the camels back“ is an old saying intended for people who‘s lives are like mine.

Rail pass. Basically, it’s like a bus pass. Get one and you don’t have to pay fare every time you get on the bus. Usually, the rail pass was given to an employee, VIP, government person, law enforcement person, any number of reasons, to ride the rails without having to pay. Not sure if you could actually buy one like a city bus pass. They were usually issued, at least way back when, in a persons name so not just anyone could use them. Funny thing was…., back then there was no real way to prove who you were. “excuse me sir, are you Mr Smith?” “ No, I’m sorry. My name is JonesSigh. Here, I’ll either pay or get off.”

Super Worms? Hmmmmm. I guess if I had an animal that dined predominantly on bugs, it wouldn’t sound so……different. Of course when the boy was young, he did have a lizard. Gecko I believe. It ate crickets and I never understood why, when the yard is overflowing with crickets, my wife bought them for the creature to eat. Along with some powder you had to toss the things in like Shake-n-Bake as the first step for their becoming food.

Well, seeing Jeff and Rob’s progress shots, I feel the desire to get some layout work doneCool. Brenda is home so we’ll see how that works out especially if she has any HD‘s. At least I should be able to get away with using going to a Mexican restaurant last night before the concert as our weekend dinner out. But, with her logicConfused, it may not count as it wasn’t Sunday, or, that was actually last week and today is now this week, or, since we’re in town anyway (no plans to be in Springfield, but, around her you just never know) or, she may just say she doesn’t want to cook today. I feel like a wild animal. Never knowing what, where or when my next meal will be. (roar)

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Jeff - I like the way you have blended in the background. Is it the Busch background? Just looks super!

Indeed it is the Busch background. I must have gotten the last ones Walthers had because they haven't carried it since nor do they have any other backgrounds from Busch in stock. Faller has some very impressive looking backgrounds that with a little picking and choosing can be made to fit many locales.

Good Morning Folks,

I woke up way to early - the chatter of birds did not allow for it. Seems as if Spring is coming finally into our neck of the woods. No Barry - I don´t mean your cat Whistling

Flo, I ´ll be going for a big Sunday special breakfast - coffee in my JNR mug, scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, stack of pancakes&maple syrup, glass of OJ, please.

Jeff - I like the way you have blended in the background. Is it the Busch background? Just looks super!

Curt - your skunk diet sounds pretty much like what Petra is feeding me when she thinks I need to trim down a little Laugh Care to post a picture of Stevie?

Jim - why is it that finding a partner has become so difficult nowadays? 6 weeks after I met Petra for the first time we got engaged, married a few months later and have been together ever since. I can´t tell how lucky I feel! Girls know that they have to kiss many a frog to find a prince, but what do boys have to do?

I will be doing some touch-up wo*k on those rail passes. I plan to print them on a thick, glossy paper to make them look the way my old Washington State driver´s licence looks, which I still have (it expired in 1975).

Folks, did you also receive a PM from that Nicaraguan/Nigerian chap?

Have a good day!

Jeff, nice work on the layout. You sure are making a lot of progress fast.  Will the revised plan give you a little more living space?

Thanks. No. The new plan simply makes it easier to get to the back part of the layout and the overhead cabinet. It does knock the track plan down from two mains to one though. No big loss. The inner main was just an oval.

Good Evening,

Just got back from a dinner out at a really nice restaurant here that specializes in beef and really good beef at that. It was a treat from my MIL to welcome us home from our trip. emiI think she missed us. Anyway I had roast beef and yorkshire pudding and have to say it was about the best roast beef I've had in a long time. The restaurant is in an old mansion that has been restored so it has a nice atmosphere too.

Garry, Sorry to hear about your sister's accident. That was some fall she had. Lucky her daughter was there!  Hope things go OK with your Mum.

Todd, sorry I missed your birthday but I do sendbest wishes. I laughed at your story about the clothes. Reminds me of my wife just a few weeks after we were married. I came home one day to find that 2 of my suits were gone. She said they were horrible and threw them out. She was right of course. One was polyester( sure didn't wrinkle) and the other wa brown corduroy( comfy in winter) but they really were horrible. That was in the day when we had to wear jacket and tie to work. I still don't get it right at times as she will say " your not going to wear that are you?".  It is much easier just to roll over and defer to superior judgement in the clothing department.

Had a look at the revised yard siding I put in before we went on the trip and saw that there was a rail joiner not in properly and a rough spot on a rail so I pulled it all up today and put in a new section of track. Hope to get the pavement in for the freight shed this week.

Jeff, nice work on the layout. You sure are making a lot of progress fast.  Will the revised plan give you a little more living space?

Well getting late so time to think about bed.

Went to the Tampa train show. Bought 6 #6 turnouts and a 6.5 double curve turnout, some tools and a really neat very large B&W photo of a pair of Centipede's. Wife thinks it's ugly, can't wait to hang it tomorrow. I have a bunch of framed B&W PRR motive power photos to  try to help set the 1940 timeframe.

I plan on starting to lay down turnouts tomorrow (first track on layout).

Sounds like you bought the kind of turnouts I used to used way back when I used Atlas track. I only ever had one curved turnout as they weren't carried by the short-lived hobby shop that was here in the early 80's. They were pretty pricey then so I stuck mainly with the regular turnouts. All I use anymore is Bachmann EZ-Track.

Breakfast: Cottage Cheese and small pieces of Walnuts.

Supper: Super Worms, and Veggies.

They only need about 100 calories a day. They also love peanut butter and fruit.

 Evening Folks

 Flo, Beer Please!

Work Front I would say it was another odd day, but odd days are starting to be normal? So what would a normal day be, odd? Bottom line finished up with $3500.00 so I am happy.

Tiffany Have not spoke about her form sometime now. (she is my now 16 year old American Eskimo that was not doing well last summer) The new dog food as done wonders and she is getting around great again. Her rear legs seem much stronger and she has not slipped and fell down and not been able to get up for sometime now.

Last picture of her while I was installing the new floor.

Well, guess that all I have on my mind tonight, time to run some trains.

Auggggghhhh!! Bang HeadBang Head Get most of my post done, and then I hit the keystroke for 'back to start of line' - except I'm not in the text entry box, so it backs up the browser, and THERE GOES all my post...Bang Head Chris, lemme join you there at the wall...

Okay, very abbreviated post for me tonight (and my apologies for everyone to whom I was gonna respond...).

Here's my progress on THAT 1934 Jordan school bus (about all painted, and ready to start assembling seats, axles, tires, body sides, roof, etc.):

Oh yeah, THAT woman I was emailing? Who had only been writing about once a week? Turns out she was probably busy with other emails, as today I get an email from her that she's been talking with someone else from eHarmony (news to me..) and so she won't be meeting with me in a couple of weeks. Not anything like some Diners are dealing with, but I've found that it's the annoying smaller things that can accumulate (for me).

Think I'll go home and see if the bus parts are dry enough to glue some together... (and to adjust my mood...)

Prayers for the Japanese people, those (there and here) in need of healing, comfort, a good night's sleep, or all of the above.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau (la la, la la, life goes on...)

Coffee refill. please.

OK, a few trackage pics, most self explanatory. Suggestions/ideas always welcome. I don't have the volcano rim marked out on the pics, as it might get a bit confusing the way I sketch sometimes.Whistling The high point will be against the wall and towards the window, and not really high at all.

Tracks heading towards volcano end of layout:

2 pics of tracks in and around volcano. BTW, where the hammer sits is the most likely spot for the geo-thermal power plant, if I do one.

Hope these files aren't too large. Using wife's puter which doesn't have Photoshop, so I'm guessing here. Whistling-Rob

Afternoon guys.

Beautiful day out by me. Just finished cleaning up my quad from riding a few weeks ago, cleaned the air filter, topped up the oil, gear lube in the transmission and some other small parts. Next time I go riding I'll fill up the tank and maybe run some carb cleaner through it.

Passes- I might just snail mail them like Urlich. If anyone wants one, PM me.

Just got done with work. So I'll have a diet doc. Thanks

The layout extension looks decidedly green. I still have about half of the main layout area to do but I don't think I'll have enough green blended turf to do the job. I have less than one bottle left. Already the layout looks much better and I haven't even added a bush or a tree yet or a road for that matter. I've decided the roads on the extension are going to be gravel while the road going to and from the Shell station on the main part of the layout will be either concrete or blacktop. Trees will be one of the next things to be added. I have dozens and dozens of trees. My main problem is that the layout also serves as my work bench so as I work around the layout I have to carefully move the bags and bottles of scenery supplies to get to the next area. I'm not sure if having a large layout in a small space is a blessing or a curse. Space is so tight that my computer, phone, heater and many boxes of rolling stock are under the layout along with my compressor, vacuum and a bunch of half pint cans of latex and satin paint. Even the space in the kitchen is standing room only. The only places to sit in here are the chair I'm on now for the computer, the porcelain god in the bathroom, the bed in the bedroom and a small space under the layout should I be looking for something under there or working on the wiring.

Strong coffee in a SUNNY SOUTHERN mug, please.

The wife's town of "Sherman's Crossing" is largely populated by distinctly oriental-looking folks. Yup, we bought groups of those from China on the-bay. I have been repainting a few of them today, hair color mostly. I placed the nicer looking models (W.S., Preiser, etc...) where they are more visible, at the ends of mainstreet. When there is a particularily stubborn wee folk, I get out the wife's (HO) trackhoe and use the bucket end to hold the little bastar* in place until the glue sets.MischiefLaugh

Will try snapping a few pics tonight of the volcano area for y'all's suggestions on trackage. Decided not to go with a "typical" volcano, but rather include elements of those I like and keep the size of it down. Besides, a portion of it will have already been mined. Still considering using a couple of those large mining trucks and big shovel. Only thing is, buying those would have to wait a very long time. And if I went that route, would there really be any need for rails into the volcano proper? Hmm

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Hello diners:  Haven't made it in for quite a spell - many different reasons with which I shall not bore you. Anyhow, Welcome to Curt and other new folks - and fellow returnees ( I seem to remember seeing Sue one time I looked through the window, for instance) Belated Happy Birthday to Todd, and any others I've missed. I've been able to swap 3 BN 4-Bay round hatch cylindrical covered hoppers for 3 3- Bay straight sided trough hatch hoppers.

This was through a N Scale ndcc group on Yahoo - who run a N Yardsale thread.  I'm also waiting for delivery of some detail parts and corrugated siding. I picked up another 3-Bay trough hatch straight side hopper in the same thread.  All those hoppers are Micro-Trains - very nice models. Thumbs Up

Ray you were painting some tools for  your machine shop some days ago. That project just keeps getting better and better. Bow I did a repair scene on a planked turntable to liven up the acres of wood, some years back now. Power tools, and a few other odds and ends, including a box of fasteners.  The crew had gone on a break - the shed isn't too far away LOL. N Scale, naturally. Smile, Wink & Grin

Forgot to say I heard from CalTom (aka BridgeTom or  CatTom) He's had some health issues taking him off layout work, which is a pity as his layout is really nice. However, was sufficiently recovered by mid-February to be able to do some modeling. Here's what he wrote:

my MR is a real orphan out in the garage right now.  I picked up a couple of locomotives to work on at the kitchen table, so at least I'm still keeping kinda/sorta occupied (with the help of Spooky and Uff-Dah, LOL!).
For those "new to class", those two are large Norwegian cats, IIRC.

Railroad Passes - Not knowing just what was on one, I found one on evilBay - the photo has been overwritten, but you get the general idea from it. This one is from the C B & Q dated 1880. Inventing a version for the MT is on my TD list.....  I see Ulrich is on the case! Google Translate gives 日本国有鉄道-福岡支店 for Japanese National Railways - Fukuoka Branch!  I don't have any way to check that except to reverse it through the same engine - which yields a perfect match! Google never ceases to amaze me.... And Ulrich, we continue to pray for your mother and your whole situation - (same as for Jeff)

Garry: I've put your sister, as well as your overall situation on our Churches' Prayer Chain.Angel

Lee:

Rob that's a bunch of people, I bought some heat sink tweezers that stay closed when you let go and the tips curve at the end.  I place the people on the layout in the tweezers how I want them then add a little clear glue to their feet and place them, sometimes I'll use vehicles from the layout to hold them in place since the bumpers on the vehicles allow the car to hold them without touching the glue.
...that's a great idea, those tweezers. A quick and adjustable fix for the "wee folk" is Tacky Wax. A small amount on their feet, and they stay where placed instantly and until you want to re-position them.  The stuff doesn't dry out, and is semi-transparent if you get too large a dab on the feet. It's strong enough to hold even when the "foot pad" that comes with some figures has been cut off leaving just the feet.  (http://www.hlj.com/product/DXMAD-29) LHS may carry it.

Rob: I've had success getting a horde of figures in N out of China, on the Bay. ( No Ray, that's not "..out of China 'cross the bay!" MusicMusicMusicMusic) I daresay the same would be true of HO.

In this "time out" we exchanged our 2003 Chev Venture for a 2011 Kia Soul U2.  A lot more fun to drive, (standard, for a start) and WAY less gas. It was made possible by re-financing a small mortgage at a very low rate, and adding the vehicle to it at the same 30 year amortization. Monthly cost of the Kia comes in at about $60 - so that's manageable. but ours doesn't have the fog lights (U4 only) and is green. There were no red ones available - not even in Korea!

Things to do - maybe even train things.....Jeff your scenery progress makes me think it's about time I got back at THAT.  TTFN.

I have my pass completed. I patterned it after a 1948 Western Pacific pass.

Ray - thanks for the kudos on the rail pass. It still needs a little work on it, but as my eyes are now getting watery I will do this tomorrow. Sun´s behind the clouds now and it already starts to get dark over here.

That apple pie was delicious - mind if I have another helping, Chloe?

Mornin' every......  Opps! Afternoon everyone!

Zoe I'll just have a breakfast bagle w/ cheese and a pot of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug.  Please and thank you!

Ahhhhhh!  I slept in late this morning.  Didn't even rollover until 10:30 this morning.   Must have needed to rest.

A chilly day here in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 33°F on its way down to 23°F tonight.  Need to bring in a bit more wood.

Garry, that is scary about your sister!  Sounds like some very serious injuries.  Glad she will recover completely from them.  You and your family are in my prayers!

Ulrich, get yourself outside and soak up some sunshine while it is out!  Good to hear your Mom is at least stable for the moment.  This is a difficult time for you I know.....  (Been there my friend.)  Railpass looks great!

Not sure how today will unfold for me...  I have to make the daily trip to Canandaigua to feed the cats and to pick up a comforter for my bed I had laundered (too big to fit in my machine).  Other than THAT I have the day to myself.  Have to complete some stuff for the MLK Committee, but THAT can wait until tomorrow or Monday.

Later!

Good morning. It's 65° and partly cloudy. The high will be 81° and it will remain partly cloudy.

Just been doing a bit of scenery work and getting some turf put down using the same methods I learned reading Kalmbach books many years ago. Prepare the surface. Paint surface. Apply ground foam while paint is wet. Simple, fast and effective. Additional scenery elements can be added later with a little alcohol and glue. I'll be doing more of the same today.

Good Afternoon Gang,

a boring day so far, despite much friendlier weather. It is sunny outside, with tems "hovering" at 42F.

To add worse to misery, I seem to be coming down with cold - yucch!

Chloe, a mug of hot chocolate to get me that extra dose of serotonin, and a slice of that apple pie, please. Guess I´ll be staying in the corner booth - don´t want to pass my cold along.

TSF - I´d write a complaint to your post office. I am glad that our post lady is much more considerate. The other day she had to deliver a package containing 12 bottle of wine to us which my dad had ordered for us. She had to carry it all the way from the parking lot to our house and up the stairs to our door - quite a job for a lady of 5´4" and a weight of maybe 110 lbs...

Rob - how do you get rid of the glue on your fingers Smile, Wink & Grin

Garry - don´t even start to think of what could have happened. I am glad your niece reacted the way she did. Continuing healing Angel to your sister.

I started to wo*k on the rail passes. Here is the first draft:

I am thinking of actually printing them and sending you them by mail - German Postal Service has reduced the rates for Air Mail to the US and Canada.

Have a good day!
