This is why most RR clubs require an adult to accompany children when visiting the club layout. Children here are left to run amok.

Mike Haverty ordered KCS employees to report anyone taking notes or photographing KCS equipment.

I'm starting to get sick of this "if you don't like UP get out of here" attitude around here.

Has any other railroad taken the same stance as KCS on photographers. I don't see how a train can be much good for a terrorist attack. Dispatch surely could derail the train or re route before it hit a city and long before the bad guys figure it out they would get annihilated by the US Airforce. Sounds like an interesting topic for discussion on CNN or even here. What do you guy think?

The latest rumor. Federal Express and Union Pacific are going to merge. They'll call the new company "Fed UP"

I think they may be more concerned with trains being a target. Look at what happened in Spain.

LONG LIVE TRUCKS!!!!!!

now if we could just get all these dang cars off the highways too, life would be perfect. remember, over 80% of all accidents involving a car and an 18 wheeler are the fault of the car.

as long as we railfans are armed with cameras and not bombs or bazookas, what the heck is their beef with the free advertising? Surely by now the railroads would know the difference between honest decent railfans and terrorist scum.

If only it was so simple.

Unfortunately, the train bombers in Spain didn't show up with bombs & bazookas slung over their shoulders and a big name tag that said "Hi, I'm Terrorist Scum." Apparently they looked just like honest, decent passengers with knapsacks. Otherwise, someone would have noticed and many lives could have been saved.

It's not reasonable to expect railroads to place a greater value on the negligable "advertising" value of railfans over the safety of their passengers, crew & property. Hopefully, this world will become a somewhat more sane place in the future.

Most interesting train I have seen going through Canada recently is a CN train with a cn Dash 9, UP dash 9, and BNSF warbonet dash 9. BNSF and UP don't suck...in fact they work well together.

I have been reading the pros and cons of the Union Pacific issue. I am also a civil libertarian that beleves in first amendment rights. Certainly, anyone should be allowed to express an opinion on either side of the issue. I commend this forum for allowing that discussion. Further, I also believe people have the duty to be truthful in anything they print, and not malicious bull. I also believe if people are so offended by an opinion given, you have a choice not to open the thread. Civilized discussion is good in this country and as I said I commend this forum for the free speech rights they have allowed, and would encourage them to continue to do so.

True, but remember that very few Americans actually ride trains these days.

I can't see how with so many railfan around, a terrorist can do much? One time I was railfanning, some guy was acting real suspicious so I called the police. Railfans make good watch dogs. Friends of mine have called up CN dispatch to report flat car loads falling off, brush fires near the tracks, depree on the tracks and other stuff. We really could be "railroad watch" (as opposed to neighborhood watch).
