Morning
We missed the Super bowl as MOH didn't get out of work and home until 5:45, then we bee-lined it to the hospital.
MIL is looking good, was awake and conscious, but we didn't stay long. Dr. talking about sending her home tomorrow again. BUT FIL told Dr. she has a good day one day followed by a very bad day the next, so he doesn't think she's ready to go home yet. WE will see. SHe does have thoughts and things to say, but sometimes can't get teh words to come out of her mouth, or come out right when they do. MUst be sheer hell to have a head full of things to say and not able to get them out consistantly. My mother was aphasic {sp?} for the last 4 years of her life, so I know it's a dificult proposition.
The train Nut's wife is OK, but still in pain. She is 4 doors down from the MIL! She will hopefully go home tuesday? But they still havent; taken the drain tube out of her nose and stomach yet, nor is she on food yet, so she has a long way to go. NEXT tuesday may be more lke it. She has to be able to eat solid food, keep it down, and poop it out before they let her go. ANd she isn't allowed to eat yet, hasn't eaten since last Sunday.
CUDA KEN- Thanks for asking about my back. I still have a lot of pain, but do have a smidgeon of relief from the continuous pain I had. I get about 5 mins occasional breaks taht are relatively pain free IF I change what I am doing. Will possibly have injections again later this month to see if they work now that the 2 tumors are out of the way. Still have trouble/pain accomplishing basic household chores, though. PAin sets in and I have to stop and sit.
WEll, I saw on the news about the slaughtered National Anthem. I realize it can be nerve-racking, but com'mon, to forget words? ANd I've seen the poular and nto so popular commercials on the NAt. news and on AOL startup News page. SO I didn't really need to see the SUper Bowl anyway. LIke going to bed at 9:30 on New Years eve, I don't need to see the lousy ball drop again, and being at the hospital was a mite bit more important than watching the Super Bowl. WE went out to eat afterward also.
If MIL is still there, we go to see her in the hospital again tonight.
WEll, I've written enough,

Good morning. It's 41° and cloudy. The high should be 48° and cloudy. It will be clearing later. Tonight will be clear and 26°.Didn't watch the Super Bowl game last night for the simple reason that I don't get the channel it was on. From what I understand though I didn't miss much. My schedule for today is rather simple. Go to see the foot doc this morning then come home. After that my schedule is pretty much open. Layout work is off the list as I don't have the supplies I need for the scenery work and probably won't have them for several months. Sometimes I find myself thinking about just tearing it down and putting everything into storage or selling it off and using the space for something else. Not much point in having a layout if I can't use it or work on it. Then I wouldn't need the internet anymore as I only use it to go to model railroad forums to see what others are doing on their layouts. That would save me almost $50 a month. I could always go back to my other hobby of building computers.

Hi again,
Zoe, I am in for an early afternoon snack - how about that piece of apple crumble pie, topped with vanilla ice cream and a coffee? Thank you.
Just heard on our local news that Ms Aguilera botched the national anthem - what a shame. We had that when one of our ill-talented song birds sang our anthem on the occasion of the opening ceremony for the World Soccer Championship in 2006. How daft can one get?

Good Morning!! Coffee and a cinnamon roll please. Thanks
Today: A chance of flurries. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 27. North northwest wind between 9 and 11 mph, with gusts as high as 16 mph. ( I was going to put a zero after the 16 so I could be like Ulrich, but I figured I’d jinx myself and it’d cost me a house.)
Didn’t watch the, apparently Not So, Super Bowl so I know nothing about the National Anthem nor the half time show.
What I did do, was go into the train room and lay one half of roadbed about a foot long. Yup, that’s it. See when I got that laid, I drilled my hole then started to squooze out some caulk, when I remembered the switch. This is at a point where two parallel tracks connect so, I must make sure the switch is straight and the connecting track must/should go in at the same time so everything lines up as with the test fit. But, then I remember my other item I needed to complete this. My multi meter so I can check the continuity across the frog. This will determine whether I’ll need a feeder or not on that short piece of connecting track. I cannot remember whether they do or not, it’s been so long since I last worked on it. Something tells me they do IIRC. So I was on my way upstairs to the garage when I noticed an episode of Law and Order SVU I hadn’t seen, so I sat down and that was all she wrote. A Marathon. Need I say more.
I did cruise around a few internet sites yesterday with the new monitor. I’ve determined that the web browser page is full screen but the webpage is scaled to fit. There is no fading of the sides. I think the ends of the banner atop this page are faded or blurred anyway and I never noticed until I was “looking” for it and assumed it was this fad or blend or something like that. Still don’t know what they meant, I’ll go back and read someday. Maybe. At any rate I did notice space between the actual webpage ond the browser window edge I know was not there on a site or two. Which means what? Th goofwads at Best Buy strike out again.
Anyway, my sister is suppose to meet me at Mom’s apartment today at 9am. Of course they wre suppose to meet me there yesterday too. We’ll see. I’m anxious to dump this apartment but it’s up to her to get her stuff out.
I do recall from time to time at various and frequent football games the announcer would inevitably say, "if it hadn't been for that one guy, he'd have gone all the way." To which I respond, (yes to the TV) "and if it hadn't been for that other team......, they'd have won."
Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

I'll agree with Robby. Last night they should of had Slash maybe AC/DC. Not Slash, the Black Eyed Peas and that Other hip hop moron. Slash has more talent in his guitar pick then they all do. (Did I mention that I hate hip hop with a passion?)

Good morning.
Well the game last night was a JOKE. The Steelers should've just shined up the trophy and gave it to the Packers. If it wasn't for the 21 pints on the turnovers, the Pack had no chance.
Got some running around to do, and get some stuff done around the house.
Have a good morning.

Good Morning,
Busy weekend for me, I spent about 14 hours working on the grain elevator corner in the layout. I’m building it on 3/16 foam board then I’ll install it in the corner. I laid the track, installed ballast, ground cover, bumpers, dirt lot in the back and a gravel drive for the trucks. I had a dozen all metal semaphores that I painted last night. Saturday we got about 8” of snow all at once. Now we are heading into a deep freeze this weeks with highs in the low teens.
Bob, you might have to get a copy of Norton on disk.
Rob, great pictures!
Ken you should call the nearest military base and see if they have a civilian lawyer on staff. I’ve done this in the past and I didn’t get free services, but I got everything half price.
I’m a little behind so I’ll be in the back catching up on posts.

Good Morning Everyone,
I woke up in the middle of the night - in time to turn on the TV and watch the Super Bowl game. It was funny to watch a football match without interruptions - no commercials at this end of the Big Pond! I must admit that I was not really thrilled by the game.
Zoe, just a coffee and buttered toast & jam, please.
John, standard height of a module is just 10 cm or about 4 ", unless you build up a "mountain". That´s not much, but sufficient to build a plausible scenery in N scale, I think.
Ron - I joined the Diner Gang about a year and a half ago and have learned that the times are pretty rough for all of us, wherever we are in this crazy world. It is either health problems or financial reasons which provide obstacles to our "pursuit of happiness". We all have our own share of worries. It helped me quite a lot to have found people in here, who care - that´s priceless in these days!
You all have a good start into the new week!

Didn't catch the halftime show...but 'Shore NUFF! on the botched Anthem. I've heard high school kids THAT have done a much, much, much better job...and didn't botch the words. I heard the guys on FOX Sports Radio "cramming" the half-time show. Doesn't sound like I missed much there.
I did like the Volkswagen commercial. The rest of them pretty much...*** CENSORED*** sucked.
Oh, and Rerun says he needs to wash my mouth out with soap for saying ALL of those words his Grandma (my mom) said to never say...

You mean that caterwauling right before the kickoff when everybody was standing up with their hands over their hearts??? I did notice many of the players were grimacing and rolling their eyes. THAT was the National Anthem???? They must have rewritten it since I learned it.....
You sure that was the half time show? I saw some commercials for some new films earlier.... Mattel meets the big city or something like that. What I can't believe is the number of people who can't understand why I don't watch TV!

It was a heck of a game, but the Packers win!! Injuries and all. The torphy that bears my namesake (I really was named after Vince Lombardi)

Anyways off to celebrate. talk to you guys later.

Janie just a decaf for me please... Say, whats all the shouting going on in the back.... The Packers won something? Huh? I can't hear you over the racket. Stupid Bowl??? OH Super Bowl! Was THAT today??? Gee I missed it again.... I take it the Bills weren't it it this year? Didn't think so...
OK, so I actually did watch some of it at my son's house tonight. Managed to endure the ridiculous commercials (man they get dumber every year!) for the first half and then came home before the people at the mics started screaming. Yep, during the official rehashing of what we already knew happened in the first half. "Well Mel, if the Steelers had been able to cash in on a couple of those great passes and they hadn't gotten picked off they just might be ahead right now..... You see it's really a matter of points...." Yeah, Duh! I wonder how much the guy that draws the circles and arrows on the still photo of the play we just saw gets paid??? How about the guy who puts that purple line of the screen for us? Anybody remember Football when the uniforms actually got muddy? Oops, here comes Vinnie... Oh nothin' just having some fun, that's all. OK. I'll be quiet....
We took Son's MIL out to dinner for her Birthday tonight pre-game. I had a 12 oz. petite NYS Strip. Brought over half of it home to gnaw on for a couple days.... Can't eat nearly like I used to. You'd think I'd lose weight.
Prayers for all in need, and for all of you to stay safe and warm!
Was there a Football Game today?
If there was one I missed it, yawn . Now if it was the old Monon Game I would have watched it. (there really was a Monon Football Game)
Trains ran great tonight! While as a whole I am not a fan of Athearn RTR engines, my UP Dash 9 is a great performer! Had it hauling a 30 car coal train and it was being chased by a Monon 36 car mixed freight train powered by 2 PK 1000 F 3's.
Train night was good. Time to eat some fried Chicken and Greek Salad.

Goooooooooooooooooooooooooood (as long as the Steelers win) Evening.
THAT was the deadest "super bowl party" I've covered yet. I swear they must've sprayed the crowd with Prozac when they came in the door. Even the photogs from the "real newspapers" were trying to find something, ANYTHING, to shoot.
I left at halftime, heard the Steelers' TD on the radio, then the local sports station faded out...and I heard what sounded like acordians and Mexicans... Thanks to the wonders of digital television, the stations THAT are carrying the game...aren't coming in tonight. I guess the little band of snow out there is FUBAR-ing the signal...

VINCENT: I cheer for the Packers...against anybody but the STEELERS. Been a fan too long to switch sides now!
CUDAKEN: Don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying you've done anything wrong...just sayin' the local media types could put you under a very uncomfortable microscope and perform a quite thorough rectal exam in the process. Then again, if they are on a jihad against financial institutions... hard to say. Good luck to you in your situation.
Welp, I 'spose I'll see if I can find the game, or at least frequent updates somehow...

Flo, just a in a frosted Monon Mug please.
One good thing about working for a small company, they decided to close early for the Super Bowl. That is really the only good thing that happen today. Had 2 customers and closed both small deals, and that was pretty much it. Had 3 other customers after that looking for stuff we don't sale. Lady looking for something to hold remote controls on the side of a bed, Water Bed Mattress (we don't sell them) for a teenager and headboards, again something we don't carry. Other than that I stared out the window most of the day.
Ron You still in N.C? I was station at Ft Bragg and loved the area. I hope you are doing better with the cancer problem. I bet you miss being on the road. I have thought about becoming a truck driver but really don't know how to get started in the field.
Chris Far as hanging my underwear for all to see, I did nothing wrong far as the house goes. When I bought the house 20 years ago I was approved for $150,000, I spent $97,500. So it was not like I was pushing my budget. But, far as going to the Media, I am sure it would be a waste of time. If I had recorded the phone call's I might have stood a chances. But, being a trusting idiot I did not.
At this point, the only thing I can do is throw money at the problem. So I will be sending them $1000.00 Monday and start listing some stuff for sale on Crag's List. Anyone need a Snap On Box?
Galaxy Hows the back doing? With the MIL problems I have forgotten to ask.

Cleared a few cars from the RIP track (my desk) Next I need to start working on the Engines. Have 6 of them. PK 2000 SD 7 became a runaway, need to get the PR 3 up and running to see what happened with the decoder. I did not turn off the DC function so I am 95% sure that is the problem.
Athearn SD 50's. Both need new motors and I have some Jay gave me. Just to lazy to install them.
Stewart F 9's. Need to test there motors, but I am 95% sure there motors are bad. Both started making a racket then ate there decoders.
Well, I will see you all Monday.

TMarsh Jeffery- Isn’t it Dish Network that claims they never raise rates and it’s cable that keeps raising and you should switch? Hmmmm. Do you think they may have been bitten by the cable snake?!!! I have about 80 channels, including all the locals (better’n half I don’t watch and a whole lot I’ve never even clicked on) and , like Galaxy, no pay per view. Oddly they advertise it. Maybe we do, but I don’t know how to do it, nor do I care. We also have cable internet and one stupid movie channel that, again, I hardly watch but Brenda does from time to time, for about $90 tax included. Like Jeff, the rates just went up, but only $2. I would get rid of the Cinemax crap, but Brenda watches maybe 3 or 4 movies a month and $10 is cheaper than that many rentals or pay-per-views. If we get it.

I’m back and looking at a new monitor. Oh! Warm spinach and artichoke dip yum. LCD widescreen. Statistically a much better monitor than I had. Of course, like I said the other was about 6 years old. New view looks about the same except shorter and wider. Since the other was a 17” regular LCD and this is a 20” widescreen LCD my actual viewing is smaller. Funny how that works ain’t it. Geeks at Best Buy said I would have to adjust the settings to keep the screen from being stretched and giving everything a fat look on my 5 year old windows XP computer, but the actual viewing at the worst would be the same size if the computer wasn’t capable of going widescreen. I said I didn’t want like the TV with the stretch in the middle fattening things up. They blabbered some technical mumbo jumbo (part of which I swore sounded like a Mexican Restaurante) and said if I had any problems they would come out and set it up. For a fee. I smiled and said thanks I’ll think about it and left. Went back to Sam’s Club and bought the same monitor for $20 cheaper, came home plugged it in and it worked right off the bat. Set the screen to higher resolution, still not the 1600X900 recommended though, my computer only goes 1440X900. Aaaaanyway. The screen is full and no fat stuff. It fills from the sides somehow and blurs the part with no picture on the edges because of something the manual explained but I didn’t try too hard to understand. It was irrelevant anyway as it works just fine. Chalk up yet another reason to dismiss whatever the Geek Squad at Best Buy has to say in Springfield, Illinois. Oddly enough, the manual was online. Yup the setup disk took you online. Now, how...if the monitor wouldn't work with the computer and you needed to check things, would you know what to do? Or is there something blindingly obvious I'm missing? Chris- In a nutshell the first responders course I took was…….run away as you’re calling it in.

Welp, don’t know what time the game starts so I’ll zip on out and head downstairs before all the ruckus starts. OH! Hot wings! I have my drill bits setting by the basement door. That was what I needed to lay some more track to drop the feeder wires through, but kept forgetting and was too lazy to walk back up stairs to get them from the garage. So I’ll just shut up and go play now.
WOW!!!! Talk about HOT wings!!!
galaxy Jeffrey, I may not have 250 channels, but I do have have 80 on cable {more often than not more than I can really watch anyway}, NO special "pay to view" channels {which I find tend to rerun movies to death anyway} AND RoadRunner Highspeed internet for $105/month. I have 7 local channels including one local news all day long network, and 4.5 National news all day long channels. The "point 5" on the nat. news runs paid programming or certain documentaries sometimes as well, so only offers nat. news all day long some days/times. I am quite happy with the price we pay for what we get. All channels come in clear as a bell. SO I get 80 channels and high speed internet reliably for $105/month.

Hey guys
Just working on some homework before the ballgame starts. Of course you know who I'm pulling for. I showed my team spirit a bit at work. I was the only male working and the girls went around drawing smiley faces all over the place. I went around and drew a cheese head on all of them. I also hid all the black markers, and wrote "buy green markers" after erasing all the black writing on the boards with yellow.
Jeff, don't you have a set of rabbit ears you could use to get the local channels to watch the game? IIRC, there is a way to use a metal coat hanger as a set.
Chris, Are you putting away all you CNW stuff, since it is Green and Yellow?
Garry, NIce scrapyard. Sorry to hear about your mother's friend; good luck with the new grandchild.
^ 5 minutes with Gimp
Afternoon folks.
I've been looking at the Hornby site and found some cool buildings I may try and get a hold of one of these days. It's British style stuff, which is what I'm modeling. Right now I've got a property set up with a gas station / auto repair building on it with a few trees. What I was figuring was to the other side of the road, nearest my rail lines is to have a station with a parking lot that went and turned into a road. Then on the other (Southern) direction was going to be a fallen down building and an old, badly dis repaired barn with an old traction engine inside covered in rust. In the same lot was going to be a lumber mill with logs in the back for sawing and maybe a scratch-built sawmill. A siding nearby is also in the planning too, but there are no promises.

... Yeah, Dish Network makes a lot of noise about how they get local channels but they don't tell you that you have to get an upgrade and pay extra for them. I'm paying enough for the America's Top 250 plan that I have now. I can't afford to jack it up from $84 to over $95. My rate WAS $79. They kicked it up by $5 this month.

Nothing much happening here. I ended up replacing the blower fan above the layout (been going 24/7 for three years) and while I was next to it I vacuumed out the filter on the A/C. Broke a HO Scale station into several pieces when I knocked it off the shelf over the layout. I'll get around to putting it back together some day. I won't have any idea of what's going on with the ball game as it comes on a local channel here and I don't get any local channels. I'm paying enough for the America's Top 250 plan that I have now. I can't afford to jack it up from $84 to over $95. My rate WAS $79. They kicked it up by $5 this month. Amazing how that happened just as they tacked on 8 Starz channels free for a year. Just shows that nothing is free. Well enough about that. I took the time earlier to apply some water-slide Midland Gulf decals to a couple of F units. An Athearn F7-A and a Bachmann FT-A. The F7 will later get a L&A decal across the nose. I also have a Bachmann flatcar with a container load that's been boxed up for some time . I had planned to trade it to another modeler for a couple of items he has but so far nothing has happened on that front. If it hasn't been sent off by the end of the month it'll go back on the shelf.
