Evenin' again!
I got an email tonight from my youngest son. One of his hobbies has been to find out information about and Genealogy of our family. He has been little by little piecing together a rather interesting history of the family since we arrived on these shores back in the 1600's
Tonight he send some documents about my Great, great, great, great great Grandfather, Sgt. Thomas Roberts who served under General Sullivan during the campaign against the 5 Nations (aka: Iroquois, or Hodenoshawnee) Most of the horrors of that campaign were chronicled by Sgt. Roberts in his daily journal written during the war. My Great Great Grandfather Zadok married his granddaughter I guess..... Fascinating reading! He also sent me the family tree starting with my Father and going back (in 2 separate documents) to Thomas Roberts who was born in 1750....

Evening all.
Todd, sorry to hear about your mom. She and your family are in our prayers .

Well, tonight's game didn't go so well. We got mercy ruled, 10-0. But they were rather a tough team.
Today was a long day, and tomorrow will be exactly the same (with the exception of no hockey), so I better start getting ready to hit it. I'll catch you guys tomorrow.

Good Evening everyone, I guess I got lucky to be offered any job at 57 years old by the way it sounds. I guess having to tear my layout down was a small sacrifice to pay. At least if I want to railfan there is a lot of that to do here. I went out to the garage and got the tools and paints out, set up the spray booth and will start building some kits with my spare time. This is the first time in my life I have had a job with 2 days off every week.
Todd, I am really sorry to hear of your loss and I hope she did not suffer long.
Ken , keep on trying and try to be flexible on any job proposals. After all I had to move 2,500 miles for this job. and they insured me with no prexisting medical checks. I was told I was uninsurable in Phoenix. So if someone was looking out for me, I am sure your time will come as well.
Gmt, we talked before about racing and it is funny how you brought up Mazda rotary engines. That was my shops specialty and with that being said I have a Doctors appointment Wed. morning to see if my ears can be repaired. I have that constant ringing that keeps me up at night unless I have background noise to take my mind off it. They are talking about some possible implants that will send out a noise cancelling frequency. I just hope they do something but at least between the wife and the dogs snoring I can get a little sleep.

Evening folks!
Flo just a decaf for me.... I'll be in the back by the stove just to relax for a while.

Have a great evening, stay warm, and safe!

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
I am so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I'll be thinking of you during this difficult time.

Just stopping by but didn't expect to hear about some bad news.
Todd..........I'm also sorry to hear about your mom. That's one of the bad things about life. Sometimes you get so mad at why something like that happens, but when you actually think about it, its always better .
"Rust, whats not to love?"
Todd, my prayers for you and the rest of your family. Both sorry to hear of your Mom's passing, but she is at peace now.

*hops off an amtrak train* Sorry about being late, but I couldn't drive my car out here to California (no smog devices or cats)
Got the rear suspension on my car all done up. Was a bit suprised to find out that H&R was a German company. So my springs, struts, and shocks are all German... Anyways didn't mess with the fronts since the control arm bushings I have are sleeved. I ordered some unsleeved since I still have the original sleeves in the control arms. I did get the arms painted though.
Jeff, So would the girl in the parking lot be a classic example of the "female driver"? *glares from the waitresses* No offense *hides in corner*
Galaxy, I try to read them all, but I usually skim and wind up avoid stuff addressed to others. (ie, someone says something to someone else.
JR and Ken, I've been to 2 NHRA events, and I admit those top fuel cars are extremly loud. I've also been by my father's work a few times when they are test firing GAU-8s and M61s and those are just as loud, if not louder. Don't know how people go around either with no ear protection (not even using their hands).
JR, Drag racing is kind of what got me intrested as well. I have yet to take my new (to me) 94 Mustang GT to the local 1/8th yet since I put in the new clutch about 75 miles ago.
Hi Zoe, just a RBF to go please. Thanks!
Wanted to stop by and squelch those nasty rumors that I had dropped off the face of the earth. Had been having trouble with my iPod Touch (we'll just say a sync had a glitch, which involved a restore to a more recent OS on it, which I could only do by dragging the digital behemoth (the one my brother Mike sent me before Thanksgiving, for those who might recall that...) to the local WiFi spot to do the update. Ah, ain't technology grand...?? As for the 'new-and-improved' iOS, the jury's still out about whether it's any faster - we'll see.
Negotiations have been re-opened with the DeathStar people to get their DSL for me at home; more pending on getting re-connected. I'm probably going to have it turned on later in this month, so the billing date coincides with the second paycheck in the month (which has a little more flex in it). Also, I have a replacement (mostly) PowerBook (like the one I have, except its graphics chip on the motherboard will be fully functional, I believe) coming. Supposed to arrive on Tuesday, and then I'll swap out the processor card (my old one is faster) and the hard drive from my current laptop into the 'new' one.
Did I mention that technology ain't all it's cracked up to be sometimes? But it could be worse - I could have a 10-year-old WIndows laptop (which might be a whole 'nuther story).
Hoping to get back into the Diner (and into some MRR stuff) again soon. Meantime, best wishes for all you Diners and your loved ones, to have a blessed (and happy) new year of 2011!
(Jeff, that sounds like a great deal on that Hitchhiker's Guide video!)
Prayers for good nights' sleep, chances to see your loved ones, and for my newest grandson (#2), Benjamin Paul, to grow up (but not quite as big as you'd think with him weighing in on Dec. 26th, 9:44 a.m. at 9 lbs., 3 oz and 21.5 inches long). Hey, his Daddy's family has some football-looking builds among the boys!
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape Girardeau (not off the edge of the earth, but sometimes I think I can see the edge from here...)
Todd: our families condolences to you and yours...

Went back into town to recruit a new member for our volunteer fire dept. He's only 17 right now but that won't stop him from learning how to handle the equipment out in the field. I've already explained to him that he can't go into the fires until he's 18 and he's fine with that. By then he should be familiar with all our equipment. His down line goal is to get his training done then sign up for professional training at LSU for his Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 essentials. With that he can get a job with a paid dept. Talked to the chief about him and we'll check him out at the next meeting.Stopped by roadside flea market on the way back and picked up a DVD I've been looking for. "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". Paid a whole $5 for it.

The Mac was set up for Professional page layout/typesetting and each key, in most fonts, (they have to be made for it) gives you 4 things. For instance A can be: a, (shift) A, (option) å, and (shift-option)Å. B is: b, B, ∫, ı etc. I have a printout of what each key can be hanging by my computer. That way if I need a ∑ I have it handy. Yep another reason why I like the ......
Good late afternoon Diners - it's finally stopped sraining, and the wind has dropped off. This is the 5th. straight Monday we've had rotten weather - but we haven't had to shovel any of it, so THAT's a plus.
TSF:
DerJohn- is that a GWR or LMS engine? I can't tell.
The other pics on the Longmoor Military Railway page are interesting too. I remember saddle tanks like the Austerity shown directly below Sir Guy - but can't say now if they were GWR or some other.
back Simon!

Would some-one with good communication skills please try to get Ken to tell us what he thinks of Charter?
Gotta go, TTFN

Flo, is it to early for a ? Well never mind I will take a Diet Dew.
Lets see, Charter Still Sucks still no line line.
No Job offer so far. I really want to call, but when I hired people it bugged me when people called to see if I hired them. Did they think I was so stupid that I hired them and forgot to call and tell them?
But there was a small bright note. Got the E-7 hardwired and it running good and quite again. Next I need to install decoder pro and the PR 3 so I can speed match the B unit to the A.
We at lease I have one constant in my life. Charter Sucks!
I hate Rust
cudaken Charter Sucks, Charter Sucks Every Body Knows Charter Sucks! I had Sue call Charter to make sure they where fixing the phone this morning. They said Tuesday now, give me a break! I had to call Mattress Sources to let them know our land line was down and gave Ben (manager of the store) our track phone number and my E-Mail. I asked if he had a idea if I was going to get the job. Said they where busy Saturday and Sunday and him and the owner never had time to talk about it. Well, I am taking that as a bad sign at this point. But, there is still a chances. Waiting is the hardest part. Ken

Ken: I often feel the same about Suddenlink, or is that "we'll fix it eventually link". For the longest time they had a faulty booster that worked most of the time but it seemed like every time a thunderstorm came around it would go offline and they would have to start at a point downline of the fault and track it back to that booster. Then they would fiddle with it and get it working and it was "fixed". IN A PIGS EYE! It finally went down for good late last year and they had to replace it. Only problem now is a breaker kicks out once in a while and they have to reset it so the service is offline for maybe 30 minutes. That's a whole lot better than 15-20 hours.
Back during my happy old job search days (yeah, right!) any time I got the "we haven't had time to talk about it" or "we haven't had time to go over your application" or they couldn't even get my first name right I would mark that one as a slim possibility and move on to the next job in line. I'm glad I don't have to look for a job here anymore. First off there's a 3,000 to 1 chance I won't get it in the first place. That goes up to 10,000 to 1 if they know the full extent of my medical problems, and I don't hold anything back. I list it all so they can't say I was withholding information. Even if I was in prime health the job market here is such that you almost have to kill someone to get a job. This is not a good place for a drifter looking for work. I see homeless people along the road almost every time I go into town. They just want work so they can have a place to stay and be able to feed themselves. The shelters here are small and are few and far between.
Hey! Who pushed that soapbox under me! Check your PM's.
Any lunch left?
Well..............Got my books at the cost of $380.00 !!!!!! Talk about high prices!! I also made sure I could find my classes. I don't wanna get to school and be completely lost.
Not much planned now, by maybe clean the house. Vac, and make some sweet teas.
JR.............I had to fill out a application for work study, so maybe I can get something at school. The first month or so is real bad for me, well schedule wise. Maybe after that if the work study doesn't workout, I can find a part-time job.
Ken........I hate talking to company's about a problem. They make it sound like it's your fault, and they will get to the problem when THEY GET TO IT !! I hope the job works out. Don't get to discouraged yet.
I guess I better clean up a bit.
Howdy all...Its sunny and around 30 here...Just coffee for me..Hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year!..Doing some cleaning on the I&S..You all have a good one...Jerry
Happy New Year!
Here is hoping this year is a great one for all!
I ran across this time-lapse video of the Church Street and 30th Street MUNI track replacement in San Francisco. This was captured avery 15 seconds for 3 1/2 days and took over 18,500 images to piece this together into a 12 minute video. Quite impressive in the production of the video, but impressive also in watching all the work that got done in tearing up the track and putting down new track, then rebuilding the road all in 3.5 days. Amazing!

Mornin' everyone!
Zoe Egg on a muffin w/ cheese for me I guess.... Oh and a cup of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR Mug.
Currently 28°F with sunny skies outside here in the Finger Lakes. The high will be 27°F..... Ah, yes, I know but THAT is what it says at the Weather Channel......
Ken, Hmmmm, Top Fuel....? I would bet it is a bit more than 120Db (from a hundred yards away)....
I have done a lot of those other things that cause deafness in life too.... I tell people I had a lot of fun going deaf and then On the other hand the original plan was THAT now I was going to be singing professionally as a second career after teaching..... Model Railroading is just as much fun!
I have 3 days worth of w*rk to get done in the next 6 hours... Finally got all the info for a project I need to have printed by tonight!
later!
Just a brief stopover to enjoy a coffee with the gang!
Not much to report from this side of the Big Pond, other than the weather conditions are slowly improving and the snow has started to melt away, icing up the roads at night ...
I have packed up all of my MRR gear in boxes and put them out of sight, as looking at it just made me sad. I hope it won´t be for long and I am able to make a fresh start in not too long a time.
Ken - hope you did get the job!

WELL!
I thought I had two Dr.s appts today,,,the urologist this Am {real fun early in the AM}} and the cardiologist at 1. The urologist changed my appt from Dec 29 last year a month ago and I wrote it down on the calendar for today, adn it's really NEXT Monday!!
I wondered why I recieved no reminder call last week. HTought maybe they were all off last week.
Thank goodness the holidays are over, now all can return to normal, and people will actually at work doing their job if they have one, and things can get DONE. DONE RIGHT may be another matter.
Still waiting to hear on the HEAP application. In mid-Nov we were assured "we would hear within 30 days"...putting it at mid-Dec, but it never happens taht way its always the end of January before we hear. We should be approved, adn approved for the max they payout. The thing is usually in Jan there is often a second allotment of HEAP and we often hear of the second allotment before we hear of the first allotment! Will help greatly with the heating bills. ALways does, but this year the "delivery charge" is going up on us by quite a % for both elec and nat gas {same company}. WE always choose fixed cost rates even if we pay a bit more than market as we know for sure what we will pay for the year for units used on both electric and nat gas, but have no choice on the "delivery rate" they charge to "deliver it to us".
Well I should go eat some breakfast.
Talk to you all later.
Good morning. It's 28° and partly cloudy. The high should be 57° and it should be mostly sunny with cloudiness increasing tonight.Have to go into town to get my grocery shopping done as well as pay the cable bill to keep my internet service going and I need to drop some books at the library. I'll see if they have any new model railroad books while I'm there. They don't have much as it is, just half of a 3 foot shelf. As to what I'll do with the rest of the day I have no idea. That depends on how I feel when I get back home.
Good Morning..
Today will be partly cloudy with a 30% chance of little tiny snowfluffies...and a high of 28F...tomorrow will see a bit more snowflurry activity and a high of 30F.
Today I'll be...
...and...
I have enough spare time today to actually do these things...
Flo, I'll have a coffee and a toasted breakfast bagel please...I'll be at the RC for a bit..
