Morning guys,

Its chilly but a nice bright sunny AM here. 38* here now, but nice.

The MIL is in the hospital, kidneys not working so good, and infection of some type and she's in there because she also fell yesterday. She will probably stay in the hospital for a few days or so until the get her straightened around a bit, then go to a nursing home for some rehabilitation afterwards like last time she fell ayear and a half ago. So now she is in good hands so to speak, but special thoughts and prayers are still requested.Angel Angel

Todd: Well 20 mins per pound is for larger birds, 15 mins per pound for smaller birds, and is only a guideline, not carved in stone, that is why every bird company started putting those pop up thingys in the birds so people would know when the bird was done. I wait til bird is done under cover than broil the top to a nice golden brown.

Everybody ready for TG? I got the turkey, some chicken stovetop stuffing {the other half only likes it and doesn't like my homemade version form my mother's recipe} so I will add the diced giblets to it and the use the turkey drippings to make the stuffing with so it will have semi-homemade taste to it. I will also make gravy witht eh turkey drippings. And some veggies and whole berry cranberry sauce-we both like it that way. Simple dinner. Other half loves turkey for TG but doesn't like all the leftovers later. Maybe I invite my father over, maybe he won't come.

WEll, best get to it, I guess.

AHve a great day you all.

Ken,

In the continuing saga of your round table, if you move it back towards the corner you could have the lead skirt the storage tracks (or roundhouse) and have the storage and lead(s) on the same side of the turntable. That would also allow a ready or coaling/water spot between the area and the yard. The other option is to have the turntable access off the tracks to the rear instead of the yard but that's hard for operations without fouling the main.

   Back to the shop.   J.R.

Mornin'!

Zoe, just a bowl of hot oatmeal w/ brown sugar and a dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug for me this morning.

Well (deep subject), I am up and moving.... barely.  I am very surprised my back is not talking back to me at the moment.  Last night I figured I would have trouble just getting out of bed.  I am going to have some nice bug bruises on my right arm!  Already got started finishing the house cleaning.  Need to get back to it or it will not be suitable for company!  Maybe I should clean more often......                      Nah!

Later!

Size doesn’t matter unless you’re talking about turntable diameter, go large….

I have a question for the Chicago & NorthWestern Rail fans out there…

There use to be a swing bridge 1.52 miles from Lake Michigan over the Kinnickinnic River in Milwaukee, WI.  Current owner is UP.  When was the bridge removed?  Was it removed by UP?

Good Morning All!

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes on another cold and damp morning other then NS sounds busy.No modeling yesterday and nothing planed for today other then some deep thinking..As I near 63(Feb 2011) and seen my nearsightedness fade over the last 7 months should I bail out of N and go with a small HO layout? Am I panicking? Overly concerned about nothing?

Ah well..

Thankfully I still have tons of HO-if needed beyond the club...

I shall have a cup and look over the forum.

Have a good'un!  Thumbs Up

Hello ..

Lee ... It should be an easy drive without a GPS... Just follow I-71 from Cleveland to Louisville. Then I-65 to Elizabethtown. Then the KY parkways to Hopkinsville. Then US 68 to Lake Barkley. It's so simple even a hillbilly can do it. ... Watch out for the crouds. It'll be a full house. I'll have to get police to direct all the traffic.

I tried out the gas grill, and it was not working right. Looking underneath, I saw the tubes from tank to burners were punctured by some sharp teeth. .... Dang those raccoons!

While the DIner is in AZ, I'll post one Santa Fe train photo. I have several Santa Fe locos, but do not operate them much.

What's our next destination?  I like Texas because I was born there. How about going there?

Everybody .......... Have a nice Thanksgiving. Travel safely.

No, you are not! I am only 54, wearing glasses for 47 years now. I find handling of HO equipment to be a lot easier on my eyes and my shaky hands. Just the right size to actually see all this fantastic detail.  HO for me is the ideal scale, as I like operation more than running trains. And I like small HO scale (or HOn3) layouts Yes

Good Evening Folks,

we just had supper - health food again - Frikadellen (this is the original German hamburger), fries and mixed veggies Dinner

Zoe, I´ll need a digestif to help me digesting this kind of food, please.

Thanksgiving must be coming up, with all this "turkey talk" going on. Have not had any since 1974 ... The turkeys we have here are of the non-edible type Whistling

I must have caught something, lots of coughing and sneezing - yucch! Still sn*wing outside - this winter is going to be as bad as the last one.

Have a good one!

Hello, yes???

LSWrr
There use to be a swing bridge 1.52 miles from Lake Michigan over the Kinnickinnic River in Milwaukee, WI.  Current owner is UP.  When was the bridge removed?  Was it removed by UP?

Sorry Pal, my general CNW knowledge runs from Morrison, IL to Council Bluffs, IA on the east-west main...with "advanced studies" on the East Iowa Sub. from Clinton to Beverly inclusive and including the Cedar Rapids Industrial Branch.

THAT EDITOR says "no meeting" on Friday...so I have extra time to finger-out how to write this week's stack of stuff for her. Hmmmmmmmmm. More time to do RR stuff instead! *smacks head on counter* Darned lack of personal discipline... Actually, I justify it by trying to w**k around writers block through the distraction of RR stuff. While cogitating on how to do some RR thing... the solution to a writing issue will suddenly slam into my brain.

Yup.

Best wishes, and even a few prayers...to us all. It sounds like we could just about all use some.

Chris

Evening all.

Sorry I haven't been in lately. I was sick for two days, and I've been busy working on my English paper and the MRR.

Since I posted the link to my blog with photos a few days ago, I got a little more track laid. I also started a new project. I'm building a shoving plaform, or SPLAT. I'm using a Walthers Platinum Line bay window caboose for it. I'll only be using the frame and trucks, and adding handrails. That's about it: a caboose that has no walls or roof. Should be a fun little project.

Not sure if I'll make it in tomorrow. So just in case, Happy Thanksgiving!

Afternoon folks!

Aaaaaaahhhhhhhh!  What?  Oh, Janie, I just want a sour cream glazed donut and a cup of decaf for the moment.

Oooooooooh....  I am now hurting officially.  My left hip and left ankle are talking back to me.  I have managed to get a lot of cleaning done so far.  my sister (the Reverend) should be arriving in about 3 hours, and all I really have left to do is mop the kitchen floor.  I guess I can take a short break.

My son and oldest granddaughter came over about noon time to borrow some folding chairs and my warming tray (to keep things hot for serving) for tomorrow.  Granddaughter wanted to run trains...... Smile, Wink & Grin  Her father told her, "Not today Honey, we have too much to do". Grumpy  I did take her into the workshop and showed her what Grandpa has been building.  Her eyes got real big and she grinned.  She is starting to understand how much time and effort some modeling takes.  I hope to have the quarry finished enough to reinstall the section on the layout.  Then I can get back to running trains for a while.  I'm sure granddaughter will be one of the engineers......Big Smile

Dark, gray, and chilly outside right at the moment.  The high for the day (39°F) has come and gone.  Woodstove is lit and the house is nice and warn though.  Currently 36°F here in the Finger Lakes with an overnight low around 27°F.  It's THAT time of year!

Catch you all later!

Jeff and Der  I have done the one click and then tried the way Der does it and I get the same results.  The first [img] does not highlight with the rest.  That has been the whole problem and I never had a problem until they did their update.  So I guess the easiest way to take care of it is to use the Email code as it doesn’t cause any trouble.   I am trying to work it out with one of their techs but no luck so far.

Hey Duke......

A work around until you get it figured out is to just type in the missing [img] after you copy the location in your post...

Just a thought.

The problem I initially had with it was that it would copy only the first one-third of the IMG line. Kind of hard to get it to show with two-thirds of the tag line missing.

 Evening AZ

Flo, I take the whole keg of Beer tonight!

Called the bank at 9:30 AM, all I had was $6.15 in the account. Go figure. Told Sue and she wigged out. ( I was as well, but was keeping it in)

Now for the folks that do not keep a Cuda Ken Life Sucks Log. Sue is disabled, but SSI will NOT pay any benefits to her because I am on unemployment? So she called them told them I was out of benefits, they are sending Sue a check for Nov for $634.00. Well that better than a stick in your eye.

Drove down to the unemployment offices to see what the heck happened! By chance I got the same rep. Reminded him of my visit last week, and I did not get the funds today as I was told. He looked on the screen for some time, and mumbled to him self a lot. (I was taking this as a good sign)

Finally looked up and told me "The program messed up and did not up date your extinction, it a new program and it messes up a lot. I manually up dated your extinction and it is taken care of now".

I asked him when I would get the missing funds? "It will be this coming Monday, we are closed Thursday and Friday for the Holiday"' Well that is just Peachy, I have a 1/8th of a tank of gas and $6.15 in the bank to live on for 5 days. Plus he knew the automated program was a POS last week, why did he not update my file while I was there?Grumpy

That was my day, how was yours? Big Smile

Gary Love the picture, what is the span of the bridge? I am guessing 54 inches.

JR and Lee. I know I can fit in a turntable if I really want one. They are just plan cool looking even if I don't use it. And if I do get one, it will have to hold my Big Boy! Other wise, for get it.

Ulrich Come on, some of the Turkeys in Germany have to be eatable! My wife only make two a year, and they are all not shipped to Germany!  My wife theory is "if it is not over done, it is not safe to eat"! You ever lift a Turkey of of the pan and have it fall a part? Ever year at the Cuda Ken Thanks Giving. I once told her she could been a cook at Auschwitz after I let her do a BBQ. She took it as a complaint? She had no clue, and the Dogs would not eat the pork steaks. They just looked at me wondering "What Happened"? Smile, Wink & Grin

See you all dried up and over cooked falling apart Turkey Day!

Good Wednesday evening Diners: Do we have to fend for ourselves tomorrow? - Are the staff going to be around to cook and serve?

Jeff:

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
...Looks elegant. If it works for me, you get virtually a whole lemon meringue pie courtesy DER! It's good to see Duke has met with success with his photos too!Yeah

 Larry:

.As I near 63(Feb 2011) and seen my nearsightedness fade over the last 7 months should I bail out of N and go with a small HO layout? Am I panicking? Overly concerned about nothing?
...I'm having to use reading glasses for the close up work, and I have an old pair of my distance glasses for appreciating the rest of the layout Blindfold  I'm not planning on leaving off in N - I like the extra running room too much!

Ken:

Sue is disabled, but SSI will pay any benefits to her because I am on unemployment? So she called them told them I was out of benefits, they are sending Sue a check for Nov for $634.00. Well that better than a stick in your eye.
...that's a bit of good news indeed. I'm not sure about this, but I think that our system, coupled with "individual rights" and so on, has it that each person's "benefits" belong to that person. The only effect one has on the other concerns a rebate of the Federal Sales Tax (GST) which is stopped if the total income of the couple-in-question crosses an upper limit.  So, if I've got it right, you would continue to get your EI (Employment Insurance in Canada - used to be Unemployment insurance until "they" thought that THAT was politically incorrect) until it ran out, and Sue would get her "disability pension" regardless.....that's how I think it works here. Maybe Barry, CN Charlie or Johnboy can put me straight if I've got that wrong.  I do know that Social Services payments can change depending on other income in the household - but that's different from EI, and also Disability....I think....Confused

Joe:

EDIT: Of course... I come back to make one quick post, and I got TOP. Hopefully, you guys will be eating light to save room for tomorrow night!
...Sorry Joe, but we did THAT yesterday,, we're raring to go here....now where did I leave that Lobster supper bib?  DinnerClown

Jerry: The scale car is very sharp! on the latest grandson!

SYD (Welp) it's getting on to be nearly Big Bang Theory time (3rd showing time tonight as Kris was out for the first two)  Then it'll be getting on for(..could THAT be one of Ken's ancestors?....Laugh) for most of you folks.  I'll bid you Goodnight, and God Bless.  I hope you all have a great day tomorrow. Prayers for all in need of Healing, Comfort, Prosperity and Peace.Angel

Howdy ..

Jerry ... Congrats for the great news. When will new grandson get his first train?

Ulrich .. non-walking turkeys in Germany? ... Does that mean you do not have turkey and sour ***?

Ken .. My bridge over my "Mrs. Hippy River" is 48", and so your guess was close. Thinking about you layout plans... You have done lots of planning along with others willing to help. Not sure you want to start over, but my approach to layout construction has been good as far as I am concerned. My layout is around the wall style. I build only one section at a time complete with scenery and structures. Gradually, I'm working my way around the walls. There are no duck unders. So, the plan is rather simple.

Duke .. glad you can post photos now. The diner does look better with a berkshire present as much as I hate to admit. .. The women in the photo look bored. What's the story with them? Are they bore of the engine or bored of men with them?

Der  ... Lemon pie looks really tasty!

Jeff ... The ex UP Geep looks like a real workhorse.

Some family are now here from MI and OH. The TN familiy clan will be here tomorrow. Then we chow down!

Where the MIA's .. For example, who has heard from Keith?

Happy Thanksgiving.

Edit .. Kyle was trying to sneek in the side door while I was posting. Close the door, Kyle. It's getting drafty here. Must be really cold there.

Hey Guys-

Flo, I'll have a hot chocolate, and I'll order a plate of sticky buns with extra icing for the guys.

WOW! What a cold week here. I spent most of the week watching the snow fall, and idiots in rear-wheel drive trucks and SUVs trying to squeal their way up the frozen freeway! They're saying more snow/ice for tomorrow. Might make the commute up to Everette a tad hairy to say the least. Might find ourselves on Amtrak. In the mean time I scored an SD40-2 (undec) for FREE from a coworker. It got it's first coat of white, which I must say went on perfect. Straight Krylon rattle can work. Just thin, steady coats. Worked excellent. I also stripped an Atlas U23-B with 99% iso and that worked like a charm. It's got it's first few coats of white too. Now time for the Reading Green. Take care all....happy thanksgiving.

If Ben Franklin had gotten his way and the national bird was the turkey; would we eat bald eagle on Thanksgiving?

Good morning,

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone….

4” of rain predicted for us today with freezing rain later in the day turning into snow for Friday and Saturday.  It looks like London, ON and Lackawanna, NY skipped the rain and went right to snow this morning.

Today is turkey day, and its also my birthday.    I turn 31 and I feel it Whistling.  You just can't beat having a birthday on thanksgiving.

Nothing planned today but eat, and watch football.

Hope everybody has a good thanksgiving.

Good Morning! Just coffee please. Gonna get started early this year. But Brenda's car's dead and I am charging the battery as we speak so's I can pul it out of the garage so I can make it fry central. But mainly just stopped in to say HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!

Menu is (as far as I know) Turkey, Ham, both regular and Oyster corn bread stuffing (homemade G. My MIL brings it), fried cauliflower,  the ever present green bean casserole, corn casserole, sweet potatoes, DEVILED EGGS!, pumpkin and pecan pie. Of course there is the last minute, why don’t I make this thing or two.

Larry- My opinion, but it depends. Let’s face it. If it’s magnification that is needed to work on stuff, well I’m only 48 and I need magnification for HO. So, if you are far along with N scale, I would just spend the money on magnification stuff. The lighted kind of course. If in the planning stages, well, I might draw up a quick plan to see if what you really want in a railroad will fit in the space. If you have a ton of N scale stuff in waiting for the railroad, I’d mix the two. Unless the issue is you can’t see the railroad equipment at all. (a common problem among HO'ers regarding N scale stuff) Then, well, I’d switch.

Jerry -Congrats on the new grandbaby!

Lee- Got about an inch of rain here last night.

Speaking of Inch- Howdy! Glad to hear all is well.

Today Robby’s B-day? Well, Happy B-Day

Story about both types dressing: Years ago, my MIL found out I like cornbread dressing. She began making more than normal when she made plenty to begin with. Why? Because I like itTongue Tied. Then a couple years later, after Brenda and I were married she found out I like Oysters in my dressing. Then she made one of those about the size of the regular one she madeIndifferent. Though I appreciate the oyster one, it didn’t have to be that big as I’m the only one who likes it. Except my Mother. Anyway, along with all these things my MIL insists on bringing, is a half hours worth of “Whew. I’m worn out. I’m not making this much food anymore. What time did you start? 6? I’ve been cooking since 4.”Confused To which I respond, “We told you you don’t have to bring so much. You insist.” To which she looks at me, (when she smoked, drew a drag off the smoke stick) then say, “ people want me to make the stuff. But I’m not gonna do it anymore.”Grumpy ….til next year. This year will be a repeat of the last 5. “I didn’t make but just a small pan of oyster dressing. I tired of making so much and no one eating it except Todd. So I said I’m just going to make a small pan and if they don’t like it….tuff.”Bang Head As I said before, no one except ,me likes oysters and the only reason she made it in the first place was because I said, no, BerrrrrENDA said I liked oysters. Ah fun.

Best get a deep frying.

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!
