At the moment pages are loading much faster for me than they were earlier this evening.  Perhaps Wade was able to discover the hangup...

They seem faster here today as well.  They have definitely been having issues.  Wonder if it's one of the external advertisement links that is dragging things down (If they have any)

Today is lightning speed compared to yesterday and no page goes to blank or error page.

Thanks to the guys who fixed it!

Wife and son have experienced slow down on the sites they go to, so it may not be just a MR problem.

Hang in there, we could still be communicating by using charcoal to make marks on papyrus, then sending by land turtle..

Have fun,

Yesterday eve. when galaxy started this thread I tried to answer and agree with him. HA yeah right, two minutes later the loading bar was just showing so I gave up. Just now it took less than 2 seconds to load a page. Quite the difference.

Thanks to whom ever fixed it.YesBeer

I know these forums are free but has anyone noticed the sounds of silence from the Powers That Be?

It seems like it is cyclical - good for a while and then bad and repeats.  Does this sound like a server problem or software?

I saw this post earlier in the day when things were running half way decent.  After timing out twice trying to get into the website I thought I would see how long it took to get to this post with a comment.  Only 21 minutes and thats with highspeed internet and 59 members online.  It's been this way since the so called upgrade.  It's not much fun using the site anymore.

Slow - no, it is dead slow!

I have the feeling that, whenever, there are more than 40+ members online, the server can´t cope with that load. Takes a lot of fun out of visiting this place.

Seems that every evening it gets slower and slower. Jsut when the west coast eveing is getting started?

If it is doing system maintenance, tehy need to stop doing that at "primetime' time.

Just my opinion.

They haven;t truely fixed it yet.

It's even a little slow this AM {Tuesday}

ut I guess we should n't complain after all, it is a free site!

Being retired and thus easily able to frequent this site at all hours, I'm finding that the slow downs, or complete time outs, are occurring quite at random throughout the day/night and certainly not just during evenings. I agree also, that this situation seems to have arisen, or at least gotten considerably worse,  since instituting the site's new software.

The real oddity to me is that the situation can vary quite rapidly, the site being dead slow at a given time, yet lightning fast just minutes later. There's no indication of a slow decline into failure, or a protracted rise back to full operation. Seemingly, the change occurs almost instantaneously, thus to me seeming unlikely to be related just  to system load.

I work second shift and get home around midnight eastern time. I'll get online normally between midnight and 12:30 am and it's always slow during this time period. All other web sites are lightning fast.

Here it is saturday evening and slow as molassas again.

I know the site is free, and they just did a major upgrade, but this is getting to be rediculous.

The fastest that it loads is 45 seconds per page for me, and usually takes about 60.Sometimes longer. SOmetimes I start all over again and reload the entire site.

I found if I watch the second hand on my watch carefully, it appears to load faster....the 45 seconds.

It is only this site I have problems with.

I sure would hope they get it fixed soon, would be very nice and appreciated by many!

There seems to be much of an improvement, so something must have been done - thanks!

I thought the site was slow yesterday, today it is even slower. A few times today I thought my computer had frozen. It literally takes a couple of minutes to open a post.

It will obviously get fixed at some point in time, but until it is everyone's frustration level will be dramatically increased.

Wade read Tom's plea for help in the RA forum, and he reports that he made some changes.  I was on near 2300 last night (EDT), and found the forum to be at least twice as fast as the previous few nights near that time...so, thanks, Wade, and Tom, for keeping an eye and for doing something about it.  It is obviously much better this morning.

Crandell, I'm not sure why it would be, but I was on last evening at around the very same time you indicate in your post and found the situation the worst I've encountered so far! Linking to the site and going page to page required 1-2 minutes for each step, when it connected at all, to the point where I simply just gave up and went elsewhere. Sigh This morning (9AM EDT), of course, the site is lightning quick again.

Crandell- it is fine in the morning and afternoons...even a t 3 am {I was on last night at that time} but from about 4-10pm it SLOWS down and takes forever to load pages or times out. Nothing is as frustrating as typing a good long response and having it time out and not post!

Thank you for your continued mention of it, but really is getting tiresome!

I know its free but never had these problems with the old forum pattern {much}.

There's a glitch in teh software, scotty!

Ham, I am running ABP (AdBlock Plus) with Firefox, and previously, I had been letting the ads on trains.com run. Since we started experiencing the site slowdown, I have started blocking the ads, and have experienced a very noticeable increase in page loading speed. I know the forums are free, but if our only recourse in speeding things back up is to block the ads, I wonder how much longer it WILL be free.

Fellas, believe me, we mods have been beefing long and loud about this problem because we are sensitive as users out here to what everyone's experience is like...it sucks at certain times.  Wade and Craig do take the time to acknowledge our posts in the RA forum, as Wade did on his weekend off last night.   I like to think of these gentlemen as professionals who care about their work, even after hours. Wade's intervention last night speaks volumes to me.  I just wish it could be a consistent and permanent fix from now on.  I wish I could explain why we get a fix for a night and then have to endure a repetition the next night.  Bang Head  I'd have to allow that is must be confounding to Wade and Craig a well.

We'll get to the bottom of this, but it will have to be a trial for a bit longer.....................I guess...........

It's good to see it's being worked on. A gaming site I used to frequent once had significant slowdowns and people getting booted.  In the end the problem wasnt the site but one of the transfer hubs in the internet.  People from certain parts of the country that routed through that section had the problem, others didn't.  Eventually they were able to work with Comcast or AT&T to fix the issue.
