Is the site slowing down?
Posted by galaxy on Friday, October 22, 2010 5:31 PM

WHen I signed on this AM the site was running fine, then it seemed to s l o w    d o w n. It takes what seems forever to change pages or load in a page or post your posting.

DOes anyone else have this problem? Nothing has changed on my end here, computer wise. AS I said it was working fine, then seemd to just sort of shut down, sometimes going to a blank page when trying to load a page.

Is the site doing maintenance or upgrading while running?

enquiring minds want to know!

Help!

Yes, it is almost desperately slow at times, especially late at night and into the wee hours.  Apparently that is when the server does its back-up.  I can't account for why it has been so slow all day.

Thank you Crandell.

It's nice to know it's not just me.

I expect slowdowns or load failures late at night or in the early AM, but all day it has been slow.

Its like I devolved back to dial up! Is nine pm eastern time late or early morning? How about now? The page timed out 2 times after hitting the reply.

Yes, it's crawling.

I know it's not at my end because all the other sites I go to are working fine.

I have dial-up and it normally takes maybe 5 seconds or so between page changes.  As of the past 2-3 days it's been excruciatingly slow; sometimes up to a minute between page changes.  I have not, however, gotten any time out messages.

Yes, it is a bit slow this afternoon - but it sounds like you all have the issue explained.

NOW, can you help get AOL to move like it should?  It has been quite difficult on all three of our computers.  Ha, when you have been with them for a lot of years, it is a major task to run to another email provider.

What say you?

ENJOY  !

I also see the site being slow.  I have a dual processor computer with 2GB of ram, latest updates to the operating system and the most current version of FireFox.  I am on a 10Mb cable line that runs over 7.5 Mb of download speed, according to SpeedTest.com,  when the site is slow, so I know it is not an issue from my end.  Last night, I actually went and made a cup of tea while waiting for a new thread to load.  Hopefully, someone at MR is reading this thread.  It does seem to be worse at night, though.

Yes it has been slow. Sometimes it took over 60 seconds to get to a different link in these forums and I have Charter which is usually quite fast. Not as bad today as yesterday. A few times my browser timed out.

The techies are very quiet which means they have no clue and are still working on it. The techies hate to admit when there is an issue. They like to try to convince users that is their fault.

I have had the same poor response with my Linux and Windows 'Puters.

Ok, that last message from me took 65 seconds to post. It almost looked like my 'Puter was locked up.

I am suspecting a server issue. Still sporadic now.

What say you?

AOL 9.5 Security Edition has a "fastest connection" update to it. HAve you updated to it? MY AOL is running fine for everything else and all other sites, it is just trains.com that s l o w e d d o w n to a snails pace as others have said like dialup. You are right we have been with AOL for over a decade, and I am very happy with it, overall. Changing to another ISP would be a night mare!

I just wanted to be sure it wasn't me and to alert the higher ups at trains.com if they didn't know users were experiencing excruciatingly slow or timed out service on this site.

hopefully they can fix it over night so that tomorrow it will be FAST!

Captains Log Stardate 22,10.10.

With Warp drive now being offline for a number of hours it is starting to take its toll on the crew. Delerium is now starting to set in. Mr. Scott has been working non stop trying to resolve the situation, but things are looking grim. How long we can hang on for is unknown. All I know is we must, we must hang on. Or it will be total insanity for all aboard.

Kirk out.

I have to disagree with those who say the site is running at a snail's pace.  Last winter, I saw a dead snail frozen to the ground that was moving faster than this site.

Each new page is taking about 50 seconds to load.  I've had to resort to having two browser tabs and switching back and forth to keep awake.

If anyone with an IQ above 70 is still actually sitting here watching the page loads on this thread  (oooohhhhmmmmmmm.....) Wade has acknowledged my email to him and states that he is now actively looking for the problem.  I would not hope to see much change soon unless it is an obvious code problem that he can spot.

As of this evening this site is extremely slow. In addition the site also locks up on occasion. There is one heck of a server problem to cure.
