I ran across the following, and thought it would be a good read:

Train enthusiasts line up for Japan hotel's railway room

TOKYO - Some hotels use luxurious spas or spectacular views to attract guests but one hotel in Japan boasts a unique attraction in its star room - a large, built-in train set.

The Washington Hotel in Tokyo's Akihabara district, which is famous for electronics shops, has built a train set into a 13th floor twin room that features a model Tokyo Tower, a mosaic of the city's neighbourhoods and the resort area of Hakone.

Guests can run their own trains in the room or borrow one from the hotel for 1,000 yen ($12).

"We created something that's both rare and interesting, but at the same time typical of the district where the hotel is situated," said hotel spokesman Yoichi Watanabe.

"The railway room is popular with train maniacs who start playing immediately from the moment they enter the room until check-out, as well as with families bringing little children to escape the scorching sun during summer holidays."

Train-lovers pay up to 25,000 yen ($300) - or twice the single room price - for the room where the train set spreads over four square metres and has taken over the area of one bed.

The room, which overlooks the Shinkansen bullet train railway, also features a display of train models, photos of old locomotives and railway-related DVDs.

Watanabe said the room has been in hot demand since opening in May with bookings now being made more than a month in advance.

What won't they think of next?

looks like the room is only set up for single business as it is a twin bed only...it says so....so where would one put the wife if she is along?

 In a separate room with a spa in it for her?

Of course, then again the Japanese do have "hotels" where the room is a small box in a stack of boxes one can sleep in cheaply {unless one is claustrophobic}.

Three things strike me about this layout in the hotel room idea.

The first is - ever try to share a hotel room with someone who wants to sleep while you want to watch TV (or vice versa)?  I foresee great problems here for married couples and maybe it is just as well the bed is so small ...

Second, this would be awful tempting to the folks who can't seem to stay in a hotel room without taking home souvenir towels, etc.

And third based on the hotels I have stayed at where the A/C doesn't work, or the TV remote doesn't work (or the TV doesn't work), or the hair dryer or the deadbolt doesn't work ....  who maintains the trains?  Cleaning staff?

I am very fortunate. My other half SHARES my passion for all things trains...real 1:1, imaginary AND models! SO there might actually be a fight in the room over who gets to play with the trains just like who gets to watch what on TV at night!

Cool idea for the traveling MRRer...but I know I couldn't sleep with the layout so close to me. I'd be playing all night   :)

Or married to the wrong woman.  My wife would not have a problem.  Though she might point out that the money spent on the hotel room could be used to buy more train stuff.

This just gave me an idea

I could put a bed in the basement and maybe make a few bucks when all the local hotels are filled up.
