Strong coffee in a SUNNY SOUTHERN mug, please.

Wife & I picked up some cans of spray paint for her circus models. Guess this means I have to get back to working on those things. Also bought some lettering to put "SEE ROCK CITY" on her model barn, a common sight on real barns around here.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Sawyer, The NYC reporting marks are a result of the CR being split up between the CSX and NS. The CSX got the NYC part while the NS got the PRR part. Hence rolling stock with NYC are really CSX, and the ones with PRR are really NS. Not really sure about the SOU car, but I think NS uses them for there equipment as well as NS.

Ah, that explains it. I know that Norfolk southern uses the SOU reporting marks on plenty of their units; I was just surprised they relettered it SOU but then again why would they change it?

Lee, Norfolk Southern still has plenty of the old road names stenciled on like you described; both the GP50s I've seen in town over the past half a year or so have had SOU stenciled under the road number on the cab with the usual NS lettering and horse logos.

I feel this one is pretty good, other than the pictures

Another "tetanus shot special!" As-in, it looks so rusty, a guy should have his tetanus updated before handling the car! Smile,Wink, & Grin Durn-fine w**k on both the model AND the photos. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Jeffrey - glad to see pigs fly in your neck of the woods!! now what else have you got to do to get the van road worthy?

Change out the head lights, chase down a gremlin in the taillight wiring, connect the main and return fuel lines permanently, get it registered and inspected.

Hi guys

Went to Dr. and got more Oxycontin and Vicodin for my back.

Got a haircut also. In the seventies as a teen I wanted long hair that was feathered back on the sides, as was a popular style back then, so I had long hair then. Now, funny thing is I can't wiat to get it cut when it gets to be about an inch, inch and a half  in length. I don't quite have it buzzed, but I DO have it cut to about 1/2 inch now every month now! The difference is I can not be bothered with the care and maintenance of longer hair now, and I don't like it sticking up in 14 different directions that I have to brush out when I get up anymore! My how things change as I age.

Took my new glasses back as the new script was wrong. It was like taking a step backwards from my old script. The re-exam turned up that the older script was closer to what I needed. I told the Dr. that when I got the new ones-that is that the distance vision seemed relatively fine, I could read the words on TV easily on the TV Guide, but the maginification of the bifocal was now off, and I have trouble sitting at the computer and reading it without sitting far back from it or reading trough the bifocal. The regular letter size here is fine, I just have to sit back to read comfortably, or read through the maginification bifocal. SO we ordered the new lenses and should be in next week. He also did the dialation exam and thorough examination {not just the eyeglass exam},  turned up that I have little natural tears and have dry eyes, even though they water all the time-which I thought was due to seasonal allergies and the higher grasss pollen counts of late on hot dry days, but apparently not. Also have some start on cataracs already. Oh goody. a 2 out of 10 he said.It will be some years yet before I need surgey, but it looks like catarac surgery is definitely in my future.

Jeffrey - glad to see pigs fly in your neck of the woods!! now what else have you got to do to get the van road worthy?

Robby P. I have seen some really rusted RR cars go by sometimes, so I know "too much" is a relative term when Applied to a 30 or 40 y/o RR cars that are especially naturally "weathered". You do it so well!! Wink

Well I've been working on this car (St. Marys) for a couple of days now.  Its going to be nasty, rusty, grimy, etc......  I still have to do the wheels, couplers, and a few touch ups.  Now picture this car being (WHITE), I mean a BRIGHT white.   White is one of the hardest colors to do.   I feel this one is pretty good, other than the pictures Whistling.

I was looking around at Walthers and stumbled upon this diner from Campbell Scale Models.

Dang if it doesn't look like the one I have:

 Mornin' everyone!  Mornin' Bill!

Zoe I'll have the #2 special, over easy on the....  Oh, that's right, scrambled eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of the sour dough toast and a bucket of Dark Roast coffee to fill my R&GV RR Mug, please and thank you.

Robby, very nice weathering but they may be a little overdone, you seldom see cars THAT far......  What, Barry?  Oh...  Ahem! Nice photos of those prototype cars Robby!

Who said the seats here were "stinky"?  Seem to be just fine......Whistling

Well.... Deep subject....  Never did get down to the layout yesterday.  Probably won't today either.  Got half of the lawn done yesterday and need to get the rest done before it rains this afternoon.  This is the 5th. time I have mowed the lawn in August!  Fifth time!  Usually August is twice and THAT's it.  We have had 4.15" of rain so far in August.  Average is 3.22".  Just looked at the forecast and the rain has been postponed until tomorrow........  At least the garden is doing well (except for the zucchini and yellow squash which have pretty much succumbed to Powdery Mildew.  I think I will set up the last tub I have and do a planting of 2 or 3 zucchini for a fall crop.  Should have enough time before the first killing frost.

Got to get going!

Later!

Todd.....Thanks.   I have my days to where, what if I do this...or.....Is this weathering job to hard for me to do.   The St.Marys I'm working on is pretty rusty, and nasty.  I don't do to many rust buckets, but it feels good to get it one out of the system Big Smile.  Plus the people that sometimes say "its over done", and that " you won't see a car that rusted up".......I beg to differ!!!!  Big Smile

HA!!! Just heard a good one. I listen to the radio while I'm on the computer (KASE 101 if they want to send me anything for the advertisement) and they were talking about American Idol and how they got caught using Auto Tune (sp). Haven't made much progress on my own layout, or the model of the diner. I just can't find any stinking diner seats.

Seats that don't stink will work too.ClownBig Smile

Yes, that will work fine too----Laugh

TSF ... perhaps you can go to Walthers .com and do a search on "stinking diner seats".

..... on that note .....

Gooooooooooooooood  ...Moorrrrrrrrnnning .... Diners!

Ulrich .... Perhaps the insomnia is a mental thing. You can't go to sleep in European time, and you have to wait until North American time. ... As for rialroad songs as a potential lullaby, my favorite RR song is "The City of New Orleans". ... I don't think anyone ever wrote a song entitled "Denver Zephyr".

CN Charlie .... I'm glad Mrs. CN Charlie had a good day. It's good tp keep the better half happy. There are benefits!

Todd ... Actually, size of layouts really should not matter when it comes to how much fun you have. The fun is not what you own, it's what you build in my opinion.

I'll sit with the guys at the RC for my OJ and oatmeal.

Hey, did somebody lock the side door again? That's where Jim CG sneaks in you know. No wonder he's not been in the diner in recent days.

Good Morning. Coffee please. Thanks.

Gotta get going today to meet with the counter top guy. He will measure the counter tops and then should be about a week til they are done and delivered. They make them so there is no long wait and shipping. PLUS they measure so if they're off by ¼ inch or get a corner wrong, they fix it on their dime, not mine. Besides, they're good. Like a LHS, it is a lot easier, in my opinion, to deal face to face.

Garry- Oh I know about the whatever you want part. I have proof of thatShockWhistlingLaugh, I just don't have the room for all I would like to have. Cruising through the Walthers flyers, the pages of MR and , of course, here, I see all sorts of things I'd like but have no room for all the neat things.

CNCharlie- That's good news.... Sorta. It would have been best if they found nothing but, IF they found something I suppose that's way better than some things they could have found.

Robby- Yes you are doing VERY well. Most important going for you I think is your complete, yet not overdone weathering. Hard to explain, but when you look at your cars on the outdoor shots, they look real. They are dirty, and rusty, but believably so. Accident or not, some don't take into consideration the rain does tone and smooth down and also does a poor job of washing, but a good job of blending. You also have a very good eye for weathering details and that is something not everyone has.

Well coffee's done and I must get a goin'. I want to get the Master bath done today. Grout down, toilet set, trim back on, faucet changed, tub caulked. Guess it all depends on me.

Have a Great Day!!!

 Good morning.

Not much planned for me today.  Maybe work on the next weathering project.   Also see what I can do on the layout.

Ulrich......Thanks for the comments.  Weathering is a process that takes awhile to get better at.  I must be getting better since I get good comments rather than bad ones Big Smile.

Good morning all,

Packer
, when Conrail was split up the owner split locomotive power and rolling stock under the Pennsylvania RR and the NYC RR then leased the cars to NS and CSX.  Several of the cars in the local CSX yard maintains NYC reporting marks and the locomotives has PRR under the road number with CSX on the body of the locomotive.

 Good Morning Folks,

Flo, I´ll need my coffee in a IV bag this morning, please.

I finally fell asleep around 4 am, just to get up at .30 am again. It is Petra´s day at the GULAG today - she´s learning how to handle a PC Whistling. My HD list for the day is about a mile long, laundry, dusting the furniture, shopping, cooking (?).  Not really my cup of tea...

CNCharlie - a belated Happy B-Day to your wife - somehow I did not quite catch that date.

Garry - lullaby? How about "Chattanooga Choo Choo"? Dinner in the Diner...

Chris - Rerun and Missy (and, of course, Tiff) are adorable dogs, each with an own character. Petra just loves the pics you folks post here. Wish we could have a dog - but no funds and no room...

Jeff - wonders happen when you don´t expect them. Not much more time and your van will be "on the road again" . I love tat song from Canned Heat, never figured out, how Alan Wilson managed to get his voice up that high Laugh

Robby - that hopper looks great. You have such an amazing talent to catch the subtleties of a weathered car. You need to make something out of that talent.

Talking of dialects - Y´all have a good one.

Good Evening All,

Garry, yes Mrs. CN had a good birthday, at least I hope so. We went out to lunch at a French Bistro that is actually in an old train station. I had a steak sandwich with Roquefort cheese sauce that was really great and maple sugar pie for dessert. The cake will actually be tomorrow as we are having a friend over for a lunch BBQ as the 24th is her birthday too. Hope everyone likes chocolate as the cake is called Chocolate Sin.

As far as the procedure went, well it didn't really as they found I have diverticulosis. I have to meet with the doc in a month as he mentioned something about a different test. Have looked it up and turns out about 50% of people over 60 have it and as long as you eat a high fibre diet, should not be a problem.

Didn't get any RR stuff done after all. I'm really tired so I hope to get to bed early.

Well, glad to see that things are going good. Haven't made much progress on my own layout, or the model of the diner. I just can't find any stinking diner seats. So until I think of something, or order parts, its shunted out into the yard, so to speak. Anyone know of some part numbers for diner seats?

Dang it, I got tops again. Well, enjoy the midnight snacks. If I am still paying for breakfast, have some pancakes. Please go easy on me.

Ulrich ... If you can't sleep there, do it here in the corner booth. Duke will demonstrate how it's done. We could have Janie sing some lullabies, too. If Bridge Tom would stop by in teh diner, he could sing a lullaby. Matbe, we coudl get another diner to do that. Who knows a good lullaby for Ulrich?

CN Charlie ... Did Mrs. CN Charlie have a good birthday? Did you and she save some cake for the diner's chow hounds?  Hope you recovered from the procedure and got some mrr'ing done.

Vincent ... That's a long drive for one day. If you are ever passing through here and want a layout tour, let me know.

I bought it as a "MRL", and added extra white paint around the decal.   I sanded the paint, to make it look like the old logo was still showing.   Then I sprayed the green over the blue.

Nifty! And...pretty darned clever Thumbs UpThumbs Up

Good evening 'eh, Mega Monster Burger Combo please 'n thank-you... with a Coke.

Life in the weekly newspaper bizz-ness is "feast or famine." This week, so far...is "famine" with nothing on the schedule until high school volleyball Thursday evening. Then the stuff hits the fan with high school football Friday night, two events on Saturday, and an interview now on Sunday evening. So, during the "lull," the calm before the storm; I'm enjoying some leisure time. Although I did manage to finally hack off a tree limb THAT has been bugging me all summer long.  I'm also catching up on the stuff piling up on the RR w**k table: two coal hoppers now sit awaiting dullcote, a patched CNW grain hopper finally got it's end-numbers (ohhhhhhhhhhh what fun THAT was! Banged Head), a boxcar awaits the next Walthers order for some CSX blue touch-up paint; and the second ASRX Domino Sugar is in-progress. I also got some paint splashed around in the RR room and dabbled yet again in my efforts to "finalize" the eventual track plan. The Quaker Oats complex is giving me fits... I'm thinking more and more of it will be on the background than I'd originally wanted.

KEITH: Rerun was a bit...miffed...to say the least THAT you would confuse him with Missy! Smile,Wink, & Grin He said to tell you, THAT even though he checked into the Doggy Hospital as a pup and ended up leaving some "baggage" behind...Whistling he is very much a "HE." Mischief

CUDA KEN: Been meaning to tell you, Rerun thinks Tiff is a cutie too! We're both glad she seems to be feeling better!

Hey guys

Sawyer, The NYC reporting marks are a result of the CR being split up between the CSX and NS. The CSX got the NYC part while the NS got the PRR part. Hence rolling stock with NYC are really CSX, and the ones with PRR are really NS. Not really sure about the SOU car, but I think NS uses them for there equipment as well as NS.

Garry, I've always driven. For me it's a non-stop trip, except for gas and food (always made at the same stop). Usually I'll leave here around 4 in the morning and get there around 1am.

Jeff, can you pass the flying pig this way?

Robby, Looks good as usual. Have you ever tried one of those ex-PC, ex-CR, ex-BN, ex-(some other shortline), where the PC paint if showing through? I'm intrested in how you did that one, could be used to do a BN car with the old GN or CB&Q marks coming through

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Hey all, school's pretty draining so far. And come September I'll both be refereeing soccer and also my rugby coach mentioned in a recent email exchange I ahd with him we'll be practicing once a week starting in september.

No Model RR pictures, but I road home with my friend today and he drove by the tracks (which is how he usually goes home). I caught pics of these two hoppers (he slowed down so I could snag them out the window).

First up we have an old Conrail hopper that still has NYC reporting marks, of all things!!!

Also we have this Southern Hopper that still has SOU reporting marks. No pics of the engine, as we hit the tracks midway down the first passing siding.

Zoe, BLT and some fires please. Oh, and a Mountain Dew.

Well the med is working, my gum"s hurt and I am sick to my stomach.

Floor Wars Got some of the DAP Flexible Floor Patch and Leveler down. I sure wished I was told about this stuff the first time around. Goes on pretty much like plastic body filler, except it does not set up in 10 minutes. I all so said the heck with the directions like a guy should, and filled all the bad spots to the top.

Made cardboard tents out of beer boxes so the dogs will not step in it. Wife just got home, she does not sell anything yet! Big Smile I was done at 1:00 PM, it said it would be dry in 6 hours so we will see later tonight.

With some luck, I will have some Luna down Wednesday and get some tile down as well. Getting ready to pull some base boards and paint them. Going to sandblast the heat vents (wife has been painting them over and over for 18 years) and get them painted.

 See you folks later.
