And Missy is as well. About 5 or 10 pounds too well cared for. We'll find out as she is at the Doctors as we speak finding out just how well cared for.
Well, lasagna please. Not the just meatsauce kind, the kind with all the floor sweepin's. You know mushrooms, green peeppers, etc, and of course beef. Not too runny please and of course Mozzerella, plenty of it and Ricotta. I'll also have a Dr Pepper to wash it down. Gotta get cleaned up for w**k now. Mom's apartment passed the inspection so she should be heading home soon. Maybe Saturday, WHICH, by the way, will destroy my next full day of w**king on her house. (siiiiigh) Always something.
Like Robby said, others get busy and don't stop in the diner for a while, but Ulrich....... I wish I did have his address. I wonder if Petra checks his E-mail. Or does she read English.
EDIT: Ulrich has checked in, or someone has, a week after his last post on the fifth. However has not signed in since the 12th. I just sent him an E-mail.

Hi diners!
I haven't been in lately as I really don;t have anything much to say, unlike normal, LOL.
Have a dental appointment tomorrow the first of 5 fridays of appointments. The Appt. is for a fitting of the metal framework for a new upper partial. I hope it fits well and they didn't add material behind the upper left bicuspid that on the old partial always presses into my soft palate and causes me to gag on the partial. They requested no material there, but you never know what the lab reads, doesn't read, or what they will do. ANd the lab was on vacation last week. So returning from vacation and trying to get back into the groove of work...oh sorry guys there's that pesky 4 letter word. We shall see.
I do need to get back to see my regular Dr. also, as I will need more pain meds for my back. Still haven't got the referral from the neurosurgeon to the Center for Pain Relief yet, either. Maybe my reg Dr.s office can light a fire under someone that I can't do. By the time I get into the CPR, it will be a year since I first sought treatment for my back. The arthritis certainly hasn't improved. And my other half is starting to get tired of hearing aobut my back hurting, even though at times I wobble when standing as the muscles are flexing wildly trying to hold me up. Since i am home most of the time, I am supposed to attend to all the home chores while my other half works. Works well in theory and did well, until my back started giving me so much grief and trouble. Now I get teh "I work all day and then have to come home and do the chores" speach occasionally, followed by a "ANd I don't want to hear about your back hurting" speach. Of course while I was sick on the couch for two weeks ralphing my guts out due to the dead mouse smell, I WAS given a bit of a break on the speaches. ALas.
Well, have a great evening guys!

Ok gang, I gotta ask this question - Have any of you used metal studs as the base of your layout either now or in the past? Reason I am asking, is I have gotten a 'itch' to build a layout and instead of using wood, I was thinking of using shelf brackets and metal wall studs. I saw a article in one of the more recent MRP editions in which a modeler used them to build a shelf layout on. After he laid the studs, he then used 2, 2"x2'x8' to create a 4" base and then laid homasote roadbed and so forth.
So, now that I have that out of the way, I see on the main page, that at the end of the month that the MR staff is rolling out a revamped website, to include a revamped forums section. Seems like we just went through one of these revamps recently, yes?
Well gang, I am off now.
Take care!

Jeff ..... Is the offer good for everybody?
Does anyone here have any German friends who could help track down Ulrich?
JP ... Good to see you.
We (Gus, Dan. and I) had our layout tour today. Went well. It was a group of 24 people from historical society in this area. We had sub-groups of 8 people each roating between our houses. ...... Only problem was with Dan who thought it would be good to have a "hands on" demonstration with guests running trains on his UP layout (HO). Bad idea. Derailments galore. ..... Gus had his IC layout (HO) running fine. He also ran his old Lionel trains including a train built in th 1930's. .... On my layout, I was operating the steel mill. On the mainline, I had a passenger train with a Burlington 4-8-2 with 7 heavyweight cars. The mainline freight train had the SD24's. I had no derailments. I'm glad Mr. Murphy remained at Dan's layout today.

Jeff - When i get some free time, I just may have to take a trip back to LA for some more creole food!
Good Evening!
Finally made it in. It seems like it is 9 p.m. by the time I have been getting home this week as I've had a busy errand schedule and then I usually have a little TV time and that is it for the day.
Luckily it is finally warming up here. On Monday the high was 55F and it went down to 40F that night. We actually put the heat on in the house in Tuesday morning. What a crazy place this is, humidex of 105F one week before.
Todd and Chris, I hear you on the doggy room clearing gas erruptions. We used to call Jamie, Master Blaster. Pippa says she just does little 'poots' but she says Robin does 'Robin Ripers'. Some truth to that actually but he has gotten better since he was a pup. Remembeir we are only talking about little Westies here.
I finally got the lights in the lighthouse hooked up. The flashing light is quite cool. I also hooked up the streetlights but I got lazy and just did them in series. Turns out I didn't have enough power for that as they are rather dim.
Jeff, great news on locating a steering column. Hope the install goes smoothly. Wow, you are really going to town on that layout rebuild! Will you have to do much surgery on the benchwork? I like your plan too. I am partial to "dogbone" type layouts and round the walls but doubt I will ever get the space to do either.
Robby, if you decide to go with a DCC system I might be interested in your EZ command. I have Prodigy Express but am thinking I might want DCC for my N scale layout. I can use the Prodigy for any programming needs. I like the 'Express' as it is very easy to use( I'm definitely not a computer engineer) and Iike the controller especially as I have it on a 9' cord so I can operate my little layout from all sides. When your layout is as small as mine it helps to be able to run it from different perspectives. I did have to get the power upgraded as the PE has only 1.6 amps but for $25 they will upgrade it to 3.5. I think most systems must be pretty good as most people seem to like what they have.
I share the concern about Ulrich. If someone had his e-mail address we have a friend who is German and could easily compose a message that perhaps his wife could read.
Haven't heard much from Jerry either. Hope he is OK.
Well my hour of free time is up and I have to start getting ready for bed. Pippa had me up 4 times in an hour last night so sleep was cut a little short. She goes out, usually about 4 and then we come back in and go back to bed. Fifteen minutes later she decides she wasn't quite finished so wants out again and again and again. I have to go right outside in the yard with her as her sight and hearing aren't very good anymore. I usually just carry her out and in.

Got home about 45 minutes ago from the Rochester Chapter NRHS meeting our at the Museum. We had several rides up and down the track with Lehigh Valley #211 at the lead. Yep she is back up and running and will be used in service this weekend for Diesel Days. Then a few of us walked up to the restoration building for a night photo shoot of RG&E # 1941, a 45 tonner almost ready to see service on our RR. She has been in the shop for several years and has finally had a lot of work done to her this last year. She will be doing run-bys during the weekend. I'll post some of the photos from the shoot as soon as I have a chance to sort through them.
I also took several photos as a memorial for my BIL and his love of trains and all kinds of engines and stuff like THAT! Only 1 proved to be a keeper I think:
I will send it out in print to all his family. It was shot with only the light coming in the window. This is on the dining table in the PC Caboose. I tried to get some on the conductors desk, but had to use my boot flash as the natural light was from the wrong direction. A couple turned out pretty good but always seemed to have some reflection of the flash on the picture or not completely in focus, etc. I only had a few minutes to set it up and get the photos. They were holding up the train's first evening run, and not letting anyone board the caboose until I was done, so I did it as quickly as I could.
John you are always welcome to come for a visit and layout tour! Heck you are almost a neighbor as you only live about 45 minutes away! (Here in the Finger lakes we measure distance by time.... As in , "How far is it to Syracuse? Oh 'bout 45 minutes"). Just let me know when you want to stop by, I would be pleased to show off the Seneca Lake, Ontario, & western RR at most any time. But do let me know so I will be around..... I seem to spend about half my life these days either at my son's house or the museum. And BTW, the invite goes out to any of you THAT find yourselves near this part of NYS!
Hope everyone has a great night!
Later!

"Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated"
... but it was close!
I was released from hospital yesterday evening, after suffering from a severe heart failure about two weeks ago. I was feeling funny at that time and Petra took me into that dreaded place. When we entered, I just collapsed. Can´t say that I am fine, but I am still around. Need to go really slow - Ray - that´s not a trip down your model railroad
Thank you all for your prayers and wishes, must have made Him to rethink my calling in. How many more years? Only He knows, but as I turned just 54 yesterday, I´d like to have a few more years.
I could only skip through the last days´ posts, so please bear with me if I don´t respond individually.
Ray - I am sorry to read about your BIL´s passing. My go out to the family.
Edit: I don´t think Vinnie and the girls will mind if we reserve a place for Ray´s BIL here in the Diner as well.
Ulrich!
Good to hear from you and very, very good to see you have survived another Heart problem. Hope you will make a full recovery!
And , Thanks for your kind words about my BIL!
Take care and hope to see you here tomorrow.
Ulrich .... What a relief to see you! ... Tell Petra "thanks" for looking out for our German buddy! ..
The Chapel Car is available to pray for your recovery from this problem.
I wish, I could get you over here to my hospital (Vanderbilt, Nashville, TN). . They have done miracles on me. August 13, 2007 was when they flew me by 'copter as my heart stopped six times. ... I have heart failure.
Ray ... I really think that is a wonderful memorial for Bernie.
Sir Madog "Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated"... but it was close!
Hello Ulrich and Petra, Welcome back ( to the land of the living )
No Joke Intended.
But so very glad to hear what happened to you is now in the past as you have recovered this much and are at home again.
We were really worried when the wire from your connection went dead. There were lots of inquiries and many of us e-mailed you to hope to get some good news. It is wonderful to hear from you again.
Be sure to listen to all the advice from Doctors and Nurses and your good wife Petra as well. Rest and exercise as directed. We want you around for a good long time. Remember that old character in the comics. "Alfred E. Newman" He used to say "What, me worry??" You should take that as your personal Motto and stop sweating the small stuff. Handle the worrying that you have been doing and you will heal much faster.. Good luck Buddy.
It will be morning in your part of the world, while I am just heading to bed. I have to work all week-end again this week, and I have much to do on Monday so I will only have Tuesday to myself until next Friday. Oh well Busy Hands are Happy Hands, so they say.
Will try to check back in over the week-end.
Sleep well all, on this side of the POND anyway. Petra is making breakfast for the old German modeller.

Wow... I stop in for a late night shot of 7-Up and some sedation... and I get two surprises: One a wonderful photo by RAY of an awesome tribute. I think it turned out very well. Bernie looks like quite a character.
Then, who do I see? But our good friend ULRICH!!!! *there needs to be a "HIP HIP HOORAY" smiley-thing...* One prayer answered this week...our buddy is BACK! Like others have said...take it slow and easy, take your meds, do what Petra tells you to, etc., etc., etc.
On THAT note... I bid ULRICH a "guten morgen" and the rest of you's...a good NIGHT. Finally got THAT's stuff done, now 'tis time for some shut-eye before weekly facetime. A good and SAFE day to all!

Hello Ulrich. Nice to see you back here. Sounds like a nasty close call there. I've had one myself so I know pretty much how you feel. I felt much like a wrung out dish rag myself.
Good morning.
I see Ulrich made it back in. You had a lot of people worried. Its good to hear from you. Not much planned for me today. Go by the post office, and maybe start on the next weathering project.
Chris.......Thanks for the comments. I just ordered five cars from MB Klein, and I hope to get them today or tomorrow. One of the cars will be a Ex.Penn Central to a Montana Rail Link. The one that is half blue, and green. That will be fun to do .
CN Charlie.........Just (PM me), and let me know if you would like to get the system. I only used it for two days or so, and then sold the engine (dcc, and it had sound). Now its doing me no good.
Ray......That is a very nice tribute. The family will like that.

Good Morning Folks!
Just coffee for me today please.
I put the first layer of grass on the diorama last night, that was my first attempt ever. Like I stated before, this has been a great learning experience, I will be adding the other layers and textures over the weekend hopefully. Next I have to work on the loco that I will be adding to it. I already have ideas for my next project, which will include some scratch building. Have a great all, and enjoy your weekend!
Steven
It´s past lunchtime, but I am still hungry! That hospital food was no good - I lost over 20 lbs.!
Zoe, make that a Hamburger special for me and a RBF to wash it down, please.
Feels good to be back, although I still feel like Jeff stated it - a wrung out dish rag. I need to get back on my own two feet soon. Despite that setback, I still have plans to leave this country behind me.Germany makes me ill!
Tomorrow, we will have a little party - just my dear friend Lothar joining us - to celebrate my "double" birthday in the old fashioned German way with coffee and a birthday cake. Petra will make one of my favorite cakes - cherry crumble - and I might even risk eating a slice of it.
Good to know, that you people care!
Ulrich, glad you are back home. Now, only have cheeseburgers here at the dinner, not at home.
Train Front I sat down yesterday and hardwired my PK 2 SW8 switcher. Used a Digitrax DZ 123, and the install was not that hard. I use to hate hard wiring and still cannot say I love doing it. But, getting a little better at it. Problem I did run into is it seems the motor was upside down in the chassis. So it is wired backwards, not a problem, just change a few CV's. I was very pleased with it's pulling power, it dragged 8 coal cars and a track cleaning car.
Next project if my drive shafts and NCE decoder is at my LHS will be my Athearn RTR Rio Grand SD 50. Model Maker, Jay is sending me a few left over Athearn motors. I hope they will fit my old Proto 2000 BL 2's.
Jeffery Good luck on the steering column. All so have enjoyed looking at the layout pictures as well.

I hate Rust
Good morning. It's 76 and somewhat cloudy. The high will be 98 with a heat index of 110 and there's a 30% chance of thunderstorms. Scattered showers are expected.Well if UPS is on the ball the steering column for my van should come in today. Total cost will be $120 ($75 for the part + shipping). After it's installed there's only a few more little things to do to get it ready for the road. On the layout front, I did a lot of work on the extension and got most of the clutter from the rebuild out of the way. Today I'll be doing the same on the main part of the layout. I still have some areas to smooth out so the track will lay flat. That should go fairly quickly as the plaster there isn't as thick as it is on the extension.
Good morning all,Ray, well we shall see what happens with that, but I already told the boss I wanted to go out there and do a visual inspection of the bridge before we get too deep into the process. If I make it out there I’ll defiantly give you a heads up. I think the travel time will allow me to get a hotel over night in the area.Has anyone used a static grass gun? How well did it work and is it worth $150.00?
BM1 Lee Soule USCG (ret) L.S.&W Railroad Serving the Lower Great Lakes
Lee - I guess you are talking about the Noch Grassmaster. It works nicely, but has two major drawbacks - price and battery operation. This thing eats batteries like Barry eats burgers , so you´ll have to have a good supply handy if your are putting down the green on a larger patch of land.
I have a gadget which works equally well and hooks up to the 16V AC plug of an old Marklin transformer. It had cost me less than a third compared to the Noch thingy. It is, of course, not UL certified, so it is illegal to use in the US
Good Morning. Busy day again today so that means no time for my little world, WHICH, is not getting any bigger lately by the way.
I'm liking all the positives on the Digitrax. Though I have no immediate plans to go DCC, as I only have one loco capable at this time, I plan on going in the near, yet not too near, future and plan on the Zephyr. I must admit at first it was, as Lee said, the knobs that swung me in that direction. Now I just like the way people talk about it.
ULRICH! Boy you had us worried! I'm glad you're doing better but sorry that it happened at all. You may not feel quite that way yet, but a late !!!!
Lee- $150 is the reason I can't answer your question.
Well once again I am getting a late start. So I shall bid you all a DerJohn TTFN.
Do they have dish rags in Germany?
Have a Great Day!!!
morning guys
At the suggestion of a friend I tried using an alcohol wash to try to unfade that GP9. It backfired. Whenever the weather is better I'm going to try to airbrush a thin coat of black. If that fails, then it'll be the very first loco I will repaint.
I might be tempted to lower the headlight on the unit if I repaint it, maybe even add the gyralight if I can figure out which type of gyralight the CB&Q used on its GP9s.
Ulrich, glad to have you back!
Lee, my answer would be the same as Todd's. I've seen some things about making your own for less though.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
