HA! I've never gotten to start one of these so I'm pretty excited. I'm still working on section 1 of my 6 section layout. Here is some work I did last weekend. I've been waiting to do this tunnel for months. It's a start eh?
One problem I ran into when buildng tunnels or hills like this is never having a good under base to stick trees into. Well, I thought ahead for once this time and set a piece of 1" foam on top of the tunnel. I figured it'll give me a base and add extra contour to the mountain. I think it worked rather well.

Thanks Fireman. I'm not sure. I may just plaster cloth the inside of it and paint it black. I'll have to block off the open back end and see what can be seen in there. Thanks for the tip, I didn't even think about hiding the cardboard strips on the inside.
I've been working on this area for a while now and there are still some things I don't like about it, like... I think I made the long grass in the edge of the water too tall and I don't particularly care for the embossed paper wall. That's gonna have to go for sure. Anyway, I tried not to to get the focus too sharp, I didn't work at composition a lot and I shyed away from any computer enhancements such as smoke from the diesel...
I must admit though that a lot of the unsharpness is in trying to get the file size down to about 100K for those on dial up connections.

FWIW, Jarrell, I find the same thing. I just let photobucket resize as their software wants to, and I post that file as the link. It is a lot larger than 100Kb, but at least it provides a decent account of your work. And your work is excellent; it could easily withstand the better rendering IMO. And should.

I must say I envy you guys with the 'natural' backdrops. They add immensely to the realism of a layout photo. Nice work, Garry.
I have posted the following setting at least once in the past two or three WPF's, noting that I had added a slick to the centerline on the main. Today I present my SD75M with warbonnet motif on modern tracks. I used 22 gauge wire to make cables, and I sort-of weathered the grills, sideframes, and the plow. The diesel has only been in revenue service for a couple of weeks at this point, so it isn't looking well used.

Great start of the weekend already. Just fired the computer up after a 20 hour power outage, Yuk. Freak thunderstorm with 75mph winds tore us up yesterday.

Phase 2 of my layout is taking all my train time, but it's still in the pink foam stage. I did manage to get in a bit of detail modeling one day when the trainroom / family room was otherwise occupied.

Thanks for the comments on the boxcar. I tired to stay away from my "rust bucket" looking car's. This one isn't abused but used .
Driline........ I don't weather as much as I use to. I've put more focus on my layout, and the weathering is on a back burner. I do need to do a car or two once in awhile. Keeps me in my "weathering" form .

Hey, I like that. Though I think the scheme works better Long Hood Forward. At one time, I thought about a modern Monon, I just cfouldn't get past the INRD. Really though, all you have to say is that the ICC rejected the L&N merger as anti-competitive and told the two to play nicely together, and away you go. Thgat'll get them into the Stagger's Act, when they can largely follow the INRD's real-life as normal.

DLMX 231 pauses at Redwood on her way back from a test run. Workers coming out of the hardware store, formerly the freight house inspect the handsome arrival. The town has recently been hit by a violent windstorm, and 281 has just recovered from a rusted turbo.
Okay, so DLMX 231 is a real engine, purchased by the friends of the 4449, or at least one of their members, as HEP power and Dynamic for the steam runs. When Amtrak stored the engine, water got into the turbo, and rusted the thing shut pretty badly, and so far, they haven't gotten it replaced. Mostly, due to a pending move, and the lack of a need. If you look at the model, the silver pinstripe kept sagging on me, and isn't straight in a number of places. (Yes, Gloss>Micro-Sol>Decal>Micro>Dull, didn't help) But I'm tired of trying to fix it, and at this point the best I can do its take it off and redo it. Also, I can't get one of the strobes back in it's hole. It's always something. Can you believe though I got the SP colors from Spraycans? It may be a bit red. but it looks right for the prototype.
The Module is my old 4H diaroma. (10-12 years ago) At one time, the road was done in Hot Wheels street. Since then, moves have taken out a windmill, an outhouse, three trees, and a porch. I plan to redo the road, and re-ballast it, try to make the diorama look nice. And I think I'm gonna take the old backdrop off, it's painted borad, but I'd rather actual sky.
I'll see if I can dig up the pictures from it's debut.

I had been ballasting the track - until I ran out of ballast. So I made a start on the scenic fascia boards and some 'basket weaving' with cornflake packets.
