^ That makes anything I do look awful. Tongue

I was using Chameleon paint stripper, but the cracking was my own fault from being too aggressive with the model. Hopefully I can just patch the crack up, brace it with some styrene, and I can reuse the shell for an easy project, like a NYC GP30 (that actually has a prototype!) As a side note, the Chameleon stripper works very well, and I strongly recommend it.

More pictures... About 2/3 of the module has its scenery base down. I  haven't gotten to the last third yet. I shot the freight house with its first coat of gray yesterday, and will go back and do another coat later today. I might have to buy some spare super trees off Tyler to build up a foresty area on the hill. Another thing I need to get around to is painting the targets on the switch stand. Hopefully I can finish scenery by the end of the summer and then get to work on the telephone and power lines.

The scenery down now was started with a base coat of dirt. I then painted on matte medium in some areas and dabbed the static grass on that. When all that was dry I took a pack of Woodland Scenics dark green foliage and rubbed it between my hands so that the particles of foam rained down. I then went back and sprinkled some static grass over this.

Justin, what were you stripping it with?

I'm building a 4x8 myself, it's a serious WIP, but I'm having fun and trying new techniques right and left, so I'm decently happy with it.

I'm also looking around at the railroad world and figuring out where I want to model later on in the future.

Hey Joe, Sawyer! Thanks for the welcome, seems like a great place here. Cool

I guess I should post some progress updates of my own, hm. I've just started my layout, it's a 4x8 using a plan drawn by Alex, and I'll be modeling New Haven fictionally in the 60s.

...I have a great lack of motive power so far though. I've been working on the GP30 but I couldn't do the scheme I was trying for since it's my first locomotive I've done, so I was stripping it and I've decided to paint it like a GP9, but while stripping it the shell cracked! Banged Head Hopefully I can order a new shell from Bachmann!

Shame the hill's coming down SD60M, it looks pretty cool.

GG, sweet work on the module scenery man!

Today I'll be going to the mall to buy a CD, so I'll be buying some paper towels from dollar tree as well. We're heading to Augusta tonight for dinner and to go to the $2 movies (the whole family is) and I get to visit both LHS over there, so hopefully I'll find some plaster cheap there.

IVRW
the consensus was he has tumors of the bile ducts

*@*b.

Pardon me while I flashback three months or so. Been there, done that. Dad's colon cancer put tumors in the bileducts, only these tened to produce a mucus that clogged everything up. Dad eneded up on an external port, which lasted all of a year, but the bile duct backing up creates a- Ah, you don't want to know this, it ain't fun. If he ends up phosflouresent yellow, like they could use him as a traffic cone, then it's time.

IVRW
He has one week to one month to live.

I'd get a second opinion on that one. (Okay, I'm gonna finish a previous thought here) from my experience with Dad, One week means that the entire body is trying to fight off an infection (or more) stemming from bacteria in the bile duct being able to ride out to other places. One month means he's a pea soup phosflouresent yellow who could double for an asian skin color. If he ain't crashing, you've got a little bit of time. There may be close calls, but you'll know  when it;s time. It may not be much more, I could be wrong, but I'd stil double check that.

When they first found Dad's cancer (colorectal) his first doctor walked in and said "I'm sorry, it's not curable". His second came in and said "I, think that might have been a bit premature. I think we can do this."

Made a world of difference.

Welcome Justin! I'm Joe, I'm modeling a freelanced shortline in NY, NJ, and CT (I model one line in Northern NJ), and that's about it.

As for the age policy, I think that kinda died...

Wow, John, that sucks. Mine is the same way. He has Parkinson's; absolutely horrible thing. Mentally, he's fine, but his body is essentially dead, so he probably doesn't have long.
My grandpa on my mom's side has Dimensia (sp?), a form of Alzheimer's. Physically, he's fine, but his mind is almost completely gone (Basically, all he remembers at this point is his childhood. His grandkids (me) and his kids (my mom) are completely gone, and he barely knows who my grandma is).
I don't know what's worse- knowing your dying, or having absolutely no clue at all...

 Updates from me--
<> Walthers order came- glad I got the stuff at such good prices, hoping to repaint them soon
<> Finally got my copies of MR and Trains- MR was okay, but August's Trains was great!
<> Getting a new camera either this week or next
<> Hopefully getting a new computer in August- will be able to post more and give updates when layout construction begins
<> Mom ordered my first Christmas present tonight- Yes, I know it's EXTREMELY early, but it's a super-limited run, so they may be gone quickly. It's a Stewart mechanism for Island Model Works's PL42AC. Hopefully I'll be able to go to the Transit train show in October, and I'll grab a shell and decals there.

Guess that's it. Catch you guys later!

John, I don't know how to express the sympathy for that man. we use that sucks so much it's almost lost it's meaning, but that really reallllllly sucks.

Justin, howdy man. I'm sawyer. most people pronounce it SOY-yer, but the proper pronunciation is SAW-yer. The only people I've heard pronounce it right the first time are the folks with a southern accent. usually I correct people once and then just forget it and answer to it either way.

Kade, sorry to hear the hill is gone, but glad you'll be rebuilding it eventually.

well, cleaned off all my rail today. I had used Goo Gone, read it leaves gunk behind, went over all my rails with 70% rubbing alcohol, trains run fine. whenever I get a masonite house car cleaning car built though I'll swap back to the Goo Gone, it works like a charm.

Hello everyone. Its a while since ive had anything to show here. I've been very busy at work and i havent really had time to do anything but here is the last picture of my hill before i tore it down.

" mce_src="">

Before anyone asks i rushed into making the hill and had alot of operating issues(runaways) and i just had to take it down for now. Im going to rebuild sooner or later but there will be no grade,

I'm so sorry to hear that John. Something like that within one's family is very hard to deal with. We're having some trouble with our grandparents lately too.

On another note, it's great to get to meet you guys! I already know Alex... Unfortunately... Tongue I'm Justin.

Literally seconds after I posted, the news came in. Finally, after months on the MD Anderson Tumor board, the consensus was he has tumors of the bile ducts. He has one week to one month to live. As a testament to this man, I say this: Even though he nearly killed me by analysis paralysis when explaining how he published his news website, he is the man who built me my first model railroad. Need I say more

OBSERVATION: December last year, the only posters were me, Sawyer, Tyler (BTW where is he?) and Joe. In 2010, WC fan, and Flashwave returned as regular posters, and we now have 3 new posters (is there a 4th Im forgetting?). Is this hobby coming back? Shucks John, Life just aint fun for us iis it? I lost the only Grandpa I knew several years ago to a brain tumor, my Dad lost his when he was young to complications from life. Best I can say is remember the good, treasure what time you have left, and if he's well enough, make sure you record the family stories. I'm rapidly running out of them.

And when it dies come time for him to leave, remember to duck. Lifethrows wild things at cha, keep moving with them.

John, that sucks man. My mom's dad died from cancer before I was born; he played rugby as well. My dad's dad though, well, there's a reason my dad calls him to tough to kill. my dad's dad has

-had 3 heart attacks

-almost had a 4th

-there's a defibrillator built into his heart

-he smokes like crazy (not like chain smoking but still pretty heavily)

As to the Twilight, my sister has the movie, and I've watched it, but idk about the log dump.

Well, I get to go to the hobby shops in augusta tomorrow, I'm hoping to get some plaster, then maybe go by a dollar store and get some paper towels and maybe get the hills finished soon.

My, it has been a long time since Ive posted. Things aint good. My poor grandfather will probably be dead in a few months. I dont know what to think. So far, Ive done nothing beyond risers. Just a few more, and Ill be able to start scenery. I have also been able to build my first craftsman kit, a kadee caboose, the one truck logging kind. I think things are settled as the Bradley-Woodard Timber Co.

One thing I have noticed. I just read the book Twilight. Being interested in the movie, I went onto youtube, to the official Twilight channel. I looked at one of the trailers and I think that one part of the movie was filmed at the old BWTC log dump. Does anybody have the movie and can you confirm it. All I saw in the trailer was that Bella and Edward were standing on the bank of a river (the columbia?) and a line of wooden pylons were leading away from them. I do know for a fact that the movie was filmed in Oregon. This could be an amazing coincidence.

Coming up, Ill be leaving to go to stanford for a month. Probably there will be a drastic lack of trains then. But from there, I could be staying here in Orlando for another year, or I could move back to Utah, scrap the layout there, and keep working on the BWTC. It all depends on if grandpa is alive or not. Lastly, Welcome, Chessie. Do you have a name to go with that? BTW, Im John. GG is Alex. Packers is Sawyer. And Flashwave is Morgan. Until Next time, Ill be in Bradwood Oregon, 1932

Nah you can post, as long as you like trains you can post here. I don't even think you need to be a teen anymore.

Well, we sure are gonna be hurting here in three/four years... I'm gone in 2-3, Sawyer's out in 4, I dunno wwhere others fall, but darned close.

I think there's some 14 and 13 year olds here; wow it's weird saying that because I was 13 when I joined up here.

I think the "teen" age is more under 21, at least that's how we do it for the TAMR offices.

For this thread though I don't think we'll force anyone to leave, but I'm guessing around maybe age 30 we teens now will end up moving on.

Chessie, I'm looking forward to seeing that GP30, those locos, in the right paint, kill all other locos (although I'm a big fan of the Alco C628 in Lehigh Valley paint)

My absence was due to rugby camp. I learned a lot of techniques even though I worked my tail off. but I'm back home now.

I don't have much planned for the layout; I think I'm gonna work on some structures for the yard.

Yeah, it's been downright nasty here too. There have been brownouts from AC load all over the state, and the T has been having some problems too. On Tuesday the Greenbush line was being bused and my Worcester Line train was announced while it was still in the station throat moving towards the station. Usually most trains are at the tracks they'll be departing from a good half hour before they're announced. Most of the subway stops, especially Park St., are like saunas. Whoever decided to install the huge fans hanging from the ceiling all over the place is my new best friend.
