Well, I have no good comments of technology today. We just had another DVD player die on my family. Worst part was , it was mine! I got it as a present from my uncle a few years ago. We have gone through 2 in less than 6 months.

.

We have a Kawasaki {I get to practice my Japanese here Wink} DVD/CD player with surround sound system built in that we have had for about 8 years. Still works great. Plays either DVD's or palys music CDs. OF course we don't play it absolutely everyday either, nor does it record.

Just my thoughts, ideas, opinions and experiences. Others may vary.

Jeff, 500 isn't bad. My dad spends 200 on Redwing at our constant nagging. I do know the value of the dollar, but compared to an amputation of hospitalization, seems like a good way to go. Best wishes Jeff.

I wish I could just go to the shoe store and get my shoes. It would make life so much easier. But those days are long gone for me. It takes several doctors visits, getting castings made as well as a few other things to get one pair of shoes made that will fit my feet. If anyone tries wearing my shoes they'll end up wrecking their feet. Ditto for me if I try wearing a 'normal' pair of shoes. They'll mess my feet up worse than they already are. We all have our own crosses to bear and this is one I hope you'll never have to bear. Foot problems are nothing to be taken lightly.

Jeffrey-Owh, that sounds like it hurts. Just be careful with your feet. A friend's dad lost both of his feet because he let his diabetes go. Well, I have no good comments of technology today. We just had another DVD player die on my family. Worst part was , it was mine! I got it as a present from my uncle a few years ago. We have gone through 2 in less than 6 months. At Christmas, we had the main DVD player go ker-put because the transformer on the pole at our house blew up. Flooded the basement, screwed up almost all the sensitive electronics that were not plugged in to a surge protector. Thankfully, my dad wired my layout on a circuit with a light switch that cuts the power to everything. After a clean up the day after Christmas, and about a half inch of water. Now, after I typed this, my sisters told me that they got it to work.

Well, I'll have a slice of that fresh apple pie, some vanilla ice cream, and a diet Doctor. Thanks.

I will eventually lose my right foot as the ankle joint will fail completely and totally collapse. It's at the point now that I have to wear a low top boot to support the ankle and keep it from folding over sideways. Problem with that is the boots are very expensive as they must be custom made. I think the bill on this latest pair was around $500. Medicaid paid for all of it for which I am thankful. There's no way I could have afforded it. My total monthly income wouldn't pay most people's rent but I get along on it as I live a quite spartan lifestyle with my model railroad as my big indulgence. I pay my electric, insurance, grocery and credit card bills as well as my gas and car parts with less than $700 a month and have some money left over. My home and my car are paid for so I own them outright, so no rent or car payment makes my life a lot easier.  As for the DVD player issue I've had several myself. My first one was an RCA which I eventually gave to my parents so they could watch a DVD or two every once in a while. I had a couple from Sony and Durabrand. They both went belly up within a year. The ones I've had the best luck with are the Magnavox and Philips systems I have now. I gotb the Philips player because I needed one that plays PAL format disks without a problem and I didn't want to pay through the nose for one. It also connects top my TV with just a HDMI cable instead of a bunch of patch lines like the Magnavox player does. On the surge suppressor issue, I have them on every [lug socket in the house as well as a whole house surge protector on the main breaker box. I have yet to lose anything to a lightning strike even though my trailer has taken several direct hits over the years.

Thanks Jim, I actually have it plugged into a surge protector, so if for some reason, the layout is live, my DC transformers are hopefully safe. The DVD player needs some gentle persuasion.

Also, I think that the word you are looking for is TARIDS. Try this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TARDIS It's from the BBC SciFi Doctor Who.

Good afternoon/evening Flo - I'll have a RBS (roast beef sandwich) with the veggies (tomatoes, lettuce, onion slice, pickle spear on the side, etc.) and a RBF, please. Thank-you-ma'am!

I see we've had some insomniacs around the Diner lately. Hope THAT gets itself w**ked out of your systems before too much longer, Rob and Ulrich. Yeah!! When I can't get my quote of ZzzZzz, my body is out of whack for the next day or so. Not fun!

Ulrich, I'd say THAT for what equipment your friend has, plus what his/her needs are, the plan fits the bill. No need to backtrack Whistling or apologize, IMHO. [Edit:] Like the revision, too. After reading Todd's response, I realized that I don't have any staging even in my expanded plan (unless you can count my one yard as staging...?Confused ). And yes, I'd say that is love, my friend. Definitely, you have a keeper in Petra!

Chris, I was thinking THAT those looked like U-boats or 'toasters' there (Not intending any insult there - though yes, I do have a preference for EMD stuff). Thanks for the info and emails about the fire engines - I may go the Ahrens-Fox one, since my biggest town isn't that big, and I could easily justify it still being around (maybe even sold off by a bigger town to the one on my layout) in the 1950's. May need to do some lookin' and figurin' on what to use for a ladder truck, since I'm figuring that about four stories would be the absolute max. height my F.D. would need. Yeah, that sounds about right!

Hey, everybody! LOOK! Jeff has a UP car that he hasn't patched over (Yet, anyway...). Smile,Wink, & Grin Just funnin' ya, Jeff. Big Smile Sharp job on that trailer lettering, too. Hey, that idiot in the Cutlass probably has his license number memorized by that officer by now (much to the idiot's disappointment). Wonder how many tickets it'll take to wise him up (not the cop)?

Now Ray, I wonder why that photo of your granddaughter was your favorite one? Whistling

Galaxy, I thought for a minute there that you were just "sorta-cleaned-up" cussing there, with all that 'frickin' and 'frackin'...Wink I'd agree that when it starts messing up (sorry, TM Fergie) the drinking water, that's too far gone.

Tim, with how 'well' you were taking to sitting around when you weren't supposed to be at w**k, I'd guess that it's high time for you to get back to 'it'. Thumbs Up Of course, that has the downside of cutting into your MRR'ing time, but the positive side of helping with MRR'ing bucks. Yeah!! Hey, I found what might be the one you mentioned via the 'Antique' link - would that be your department's Dodge? Looks a lot like some of the ones I've found so far.

Joe, I just got to your report on Ms. Nov's death - that is a shocker, and I hope the police find THAT 'person of interest.' I occasionally have someone at w**k who has broken up with spouse/boyfriend, and I recommend they set up having the local police/deputies there when they come to remove their belongings (always, especially if he's been abusive or threatening!).

Vincent, yep, it has been a while (too long). Hoping to avoid that long of a delay re-happening anytime soon.

Lisican - Daleks! All Right, good choice on your animation/comic! I like your (forgot its name) phone booth, too. Thumbs Up And yeah, this'd be as good a place to post THAT link (without getting much of any 'lecturing'... Smile,Wink, & Grin What's your MRR'ing like? Started, still planning, or what? Fill us in about your big (or not so) plans, etc. - and have a beverage of your choice; just ask one of our virtual servers (Zoe, Chloe, Flo, Janie, and whatsername-the-new-gal).

Sawyer, the ANR might want to invest in a converted tanker/roadbed sprayer for the kudzu...Whistling (Tee hee...) Wink

Keith, my guess would be it's a science fiction (maybe time travel? Both? Stargate?) sorta thing for your mystery pic. You may have some difficulty getting that pup to go camping with you next time, if that was his first introduction to a 'cool' camping night. Excellent job on your area there - it's amazing all the detail you have in the itsy bitsy little iNvisible scale area. Thumbs Up

Robby, I'm sure the appraiser will be please with your (painted) garage (even if we really know that you'd like it all to look like that 'old' half on your earlier pic...). Smile,Wink, & Grin

Barry, my RDC's project will be even more... interesting, as I'm taking two (Athearn ones) and chopping and re-assembling to get something closer to actual length, with about the right number of windows, for example, on the RDC-1's. (Guess I've been hanging around the RC too long) so that means I will have to find how to lengthen the chassis/chasses to match the longer bodies, and put the Ernst re-gearing kits into them, and rewire them for DCC. I hope to retain my sanity to the end of the process. Oops And thanks for clearing me up on Audrey's true identity (makes her sound like some kind of superhero, doesn't THAT?)

TeenSteamFan, glad to hear your folks got the DVD player to w**k. Two in a year (let alone in six months) is WAY too many. Good that your layout was off-the-grid (so to speak) when the transformer pole bit the dust. Shock

Time for this one to mosey on home and fix some of the food in the fridge (before it goes bad on me). And tomorrow morning it's back to the office again. Sigh Well, it provides the bills money and MRR'ing bucks. Smile Have a good evening, and raise a glass of Finger Lakes wine on my behalf tonight!

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

... so I just popped a couple of pain killers. I'll probably be out of it for a couple of hours....

Sounds like me. Popping pain killers, sometimes like they were candy. I have also discovered that for instance after a day of helping my friend, or a day's outting like yesterday to the Windmill farm market that apparently now I need almost a whole day of  bed rest to recouperate, sleep and back rest the next day afterward...oy.

I frequently have the same problem after an outing where I have to walk (if you can call it walking) more then a hundred feet or so. By the way, some time back the doc removed three bones from my right foot. The latest X-rays show that a mass of new bone has grown into the space that was formerly occupied by the original bones. This seems to be somewhat common among diabetics. It's a solid mass so there's no way that I can flex my foot anymore and it's a real problem when up or down steps. Just going up or down the two steps at my front door is a bit of a problem.

 Good HOT afternoon.

I got off of work early, and worked on the layout some.  I made about 8 trees.  I will try to get some pictures up tomorrow.  Now its time to sit back and relax.

A county up from us in under a "tornado" warning, so I guess its that time of day for "pop ups!!"

Ray.....I was thinking......Maybe start with the fade tomorrow Big Smile.

Went over this morning and mowed the parent's yard. The Peerless broke down right as I got done with the front yard. It flooded out for seemingly no reason then I discovered the the choke handle was broken and the choke wouldn't stay set. I had to do the back yard with the little Yardman mower. It's OK I guess as long as I don't have to back up. That weird backup pedal kills my ankle so I back up as little as possible. Now I'm back home and my ankle is screaming at me, so I just popped a couple of pain killers. I'll probably be out of it for a couple of hours.

Afternoon all!

Chloe how about a RBF to tide me over until supper?

galaxy
Well after a good breakfast, we opted to go out Ray's way to Penn Yan and The Windmill Farm/Crafts Market.

What?  You were about 18 miles from my place and you didn't stop for a visit?  Oh well, probably just as well as both my house and the layout are a Mess (â„¢) right now.  (Whatever happened to Fergie???)  Next time you come up this way, let me know.  You are always welcome to visit!

galaxy
Of course, We also picked up some Finger Lakes wine and Honey mead, of course.

Stopped over at Earl Estates Meadery I see.  Good stuff!  Very smooth and tasty.  Bet you also went to the other end of the building and got wine at Torry Ridge Winery?  Both have very good quality wines.  I have to stop down there and get some Mead one of these days myself.

Well, Ray , maybe next time we will stop by to see you,but only  If'n we deccide early enough and not jsut that morning to go to Windmill again. {so's you knows we's a comin'}

We didn't stop at the Meadery. We had plenty of choices right there at Windmill. WE opted for Montezuma Winery of Auburn Rd., Senaca Falls's Sweet Honey Mead. I thought we bought wine too, but I see we bought 2 kinds of mead as we figured we could get wine anytime, but the mead was good.

THere were several wineries reprsented at Windmill, but if'n one drank at all and bought at all one would be poor drunk folk leaving.

Well, the other half working and I so tired form yesterday, I think a day in bed rest is in order.

See ya all later!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, #2 special for me this morning.  Over easy on the eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of sourdough toast.  I'll go sit at the Rivet Counter........

Keith THAT puppy sure is growing.  Cute as can be as well!

Barry, I read your post about Audrie's car and went and checked my driveway.  Yep its still there!  I mean I have one of those as well.....  It's a 2008, and also Red!

Hope she likes hers as well as I like mine.  So far (knock on wood) I have had the oil changed 3 times.  That's it!

Robby nice job on the garage!  So when do you weather it? Whistling

Tom, next time you get up towards Geneva, give me a holler!  I love giving tours of the SLOW.

My son just called, coughed into the phone a couple of times, and then nothing......Shock  I waited a bit, and he was still not there.  So I called back.  He just accidentally hit something on the phone when he coughed.  He's OK.  They invited me over for supper tonight.

The temperature here in the Finger lakes is already 80°F and it's not even Noon yet!  Humidity is high as well.  I may try doing some things outside, but the trainroom is looking very good at the moment.

Later!

I guess I'll chime in here about the quality of the wines from the Finger Lakes area, especially those from Seneca Lake. A little over 11 years ago we attended my nephews wedding in Rochester. One afternoon during our stay we rode down to Seneca Lake and visited the various wineries along Route 14. Great fun wine tasting and met some really nice folks.

Ever since, we make a wine run once or twice a year. First stop is Prejean Winery for their semi-dry Riesling (my personal favorite), then to Torrey Ridge for some Cayuga White, Blush, Catawba and Diamond, and finally to Glenora for some other odds and ends. It's a long way to go for wine, but well worth it to us. The funny thing is, I never drank wine until going up there, and still don't like the wines they sell in our State Stores or serve in our restaurants.

I also usually get a chance to peek in at the Finger Lakes railyard in Geneva, as well as catching them coming out of Watkins Glen on late Wednesday afternoons. I hope they don't change their schedule this fall.

It's a nice scenic drive over Interstate 86 and a little trip we really look forward to every year.

Good morning. It's 74 and partly cloudy. The high will be about 95 and it will remain partly cloudy.

Finally got around to doing some more weathering on some freight cars yesterday with what look to be some good results. There is however still room for improvement. Went to a Japanese restaurant for dinner last night. It's always fun to watch the chef doing the cooking right at the table. I know some modelers who would like their razor knifes to be as sharp as those chefs knifes are. It still amazes me how they can flick an egg into the air, hit it with the knife blade and catch both shell halves on the blade while the contents make a perfect landing on the cooking surface. But that was only part of the fun of the evening. I knew I was low on gas when I left the house and would have to get more on the way. I was going to make a nice leisurely turn into the service station so the fuel pump wouldn't run dry but the jerk who had pulled in the wrong way and decided to pull out onto the highway going the wrong way changed all that. I had to swerve violently to one side to avoid hitting his huge land yacht (an ancient Cutlass) and frowned in dismay as I heard the engine sputtering from fuel starvation. It died completely while I was halfway through the turn to the pumps but I still had enough momentum to coast slowly to an almost perfect stop in front of one of the pumps. Only then did I look around to see if anyone else had a problem and I laughed out load when I saw that one of the city cops had quickly nailed the jerk. Why then did I have the feeling the fool was too stupid to learn from this near encounter with disaster. My suspicions were confirmed when he went on his way. Instead of waiting for the traffic to clear he pulled right out into the roadway still going the wrong way and made a U turn in heavy traffic and somehow did it without causing a wreck. He did however get the cops attention once again. I hope they impounded the idiots car. Somebody that stupid doesn't need to be driving.

And a good morning to all!Big Smile

Yes I am piculous this morning--we went for a walk through Springbank Park out to Byron and then we came back home and now I'm going to work on my layout---yay!Wink

Y'see I actually have time to do these things now that I got the hd gotta dos done. I've got the hoppers done up to where they should be---somewhat rusted but mostly just plain ol' dirty----ApproveSmile,Wink, & Grin

Sawyer - are you going to lighter/pastel colors like that second pic? Ah, I now see you posted what the new scheme looks/will look like. That pastel color scheme does look sharp, though. Hey, looks like your RR's maintenance crew needs some bush trimmers there! Wink (Good job on the scenery)

I like how the locomotives will look there Sawyer, I'm sort of in the stage wherein I'm now pretty sure that the colours I'll be using will be Yellow and earth tone Brown. I've got to check that site out to do one of those up and see how that'll look---the scenery work looks very similar to what I've seen up here around Hensall ON---keep up the good work!!Approve

Ulrich, I know something of what you wrote about your parents and moving to another home. My Mom died in 1977, and Dad was able to live in his own (ground floor) place until respiratory things took him down (former smoker). He would NOT have done well with any nursing home, I'm sure. Better that he went to his own 'mansion' before that happened. Hope something w**ks out for your folks (and for Todd's mother). I will second Ray's comments about your true wealth, and can tell you that coming out the other side of bankruptcy, there is light on that end of the tunnel. Been through, done THAT.

Both my parents went to their own mansions before we even started looking at nursing homes---man that has to be a tough decision to make. One's true worth is not tied to money but to their own life and how they treat their fellow man---thats what my father taught us'uns---Smile

About time for me to start winding things down and head for home. On a good note, I was checking my locos today, and was pleased to find that (except for most of my RDC's, which is another project of its own) about all of my locos have geared drives on them - even my old SW7! I may have an Ernst regearing kit for the Athearn (SP) GP7 that - depending on how the thing runs - I might not actually need. My Athearn locos appeared to be newer than I'd realized. That's good; now all I have to do is start learning how to re-wire them for DCC. Hey, Garry! Lemme pick your brain for a while, since you've newly learned all that stuff...

You're going to have fun with the re-wiring---I'm in the process of re-wiring my RDC's and my RS3's-----geeeshWhistling

Good morning.  Its going to be a hot one.  90 degrees, and maybe some storms.

Well we about go the garage finished up.   Just caulk a few more places, and clean it up a bit.  Not much planned today, other than going to work.

Jim.......I thought about breaking the step to fix it right, but I said I would leave well enough alone.  If the car doesn't sell, I will put it to work Big Smile.

A couple of pictures of the garage.

  "Glass of Milk please~"

I'm going to bed soon, so I'll have to catch up on the reading tomorrow morning.  Yeah.. we survived the vacation at the beach.  Taking two dogs is not easy.  But what I did read, wow,  I glanced over a bit ... here's what I think I read.

Chris.. omg.. what did you order?  A quadrupel cheeseburger.. omg .. lol .. that is so funny... you musta have been hungry~!

Ulrich,  you can always plan your layout slowly.  There is plenty of time to plan from what I have learned.  You'll see in the pics to come.

100_1432-1.jpg picture by Blazzin55

I can't believe how much time this is taking.  This bit of work happened to be right before I went on my usual 'Summer Solstice' vacation.

100_1441.jpg

I'm not kidding.. lol.. if you make a mistake.. well its what I call "Zero Time"  .. this alignment has to be exact.

Speaking of vacation, and I know you know our weather out here... well here's a pic of our view we had over looking the pacifc ocean.  OUr campsite is right here.. no I'm not kidding... me leaning over the wire fence to protect us.. lol.

100_1447.jpg picture by Blazzin55

Our tents were pitched right next to the fence over-looking the cliff.. and we could hear the ocean waves all night long.  Really a nice evening.   But wait.. there was more.. We took two dogs with us.  And yes.. we took the pup with us... and the pitbull.  Here's the pup!

100_1445.jpg picture by Blazzin55

He got along real well with camping.  He greated everyone.. loved it day or night.  Slept with my son in his tent.

Now that pitbull.. she slept with us.  And that very first night well the wind picked up.. got real cold.  Now I know you guys out there say.. "Cold.. Keith doesn't know what cold is!"  Well it got cold.. wet .. windy.. of storm proportions.  So cold.. well that night.. the pitbull actually jumped on me.. climbed into my sleeping bag.. and was shivering like you never knew a dog could.  She turned her head around placed hers by mine.. I pulled her into my chest .. and kept her warm.   She shivered for a few minutes.  I truly understand the meaning of a "Three Dog Night"  I would have had to sleep with 3 dogs to be warm.  Of course.. I remember a time when Jeanne and I went camping,  it was so cold, I got up and gathered the smooth rocks by the fire and left-over baked potato's wrapped in tin foil and threw them into the bottom of the sleeping bags.

Rob,  .. lol.. now getting back to the Soylent green factory.. lol.. I laugh everytime I think of that.. but then again I've always wanted something different.  Now I've already mentioned to Jerry about the 'Where's Waldo'? scene.. and you've all seen my T Rex ..  but other scene's  taken into consideration were.. well here's one..At1.jpg picture by Blazzin55

I bet not a single peep here could identify this setting.. nor am I telling.  Der John? care to guess? .. lol.

But considering my layout, I often thought in some far and away corner of the layout might have something like this.

SG1.jpg picture by Blazzin55

Now I am only posting this in the name of education and in the pure interest in Model Railroading.  If the information is not put forth,  the public can not find it or even be aware of what is available.   I am in no way promoting this ebay seller other than what is considered fair to all parties.  I also have written permission to use this photo from the ebay seller, if anyone desires proof.~  feel free to write me. whew~

So anyways Rob,  I bought this off ebay..  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300379739238&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Stands 4 inches tall.. yeah a bit tall for N scale perfect for HO.  I am planning on setting mine deeper into the ground with some stairs. to be closer to the actual size in N scale!  LOL.

SG2.jpg

It comes with the 'Event Horizon'  (blue water) and the actual signs of the Gate.

  Jeff.. wow..

nice pic.. I already made a copy of it.

Well the van ran nicely.  I'd rather not go into it .. but here's the story on the batttery/alternator.. lol.. it worked fine.  If I had to guess.. well the holding/mounting brace that actually holds in the battery was loose and as time went by, the cable hook ups got loose.  I suppose I might take that new volt meter to the battery and check it.  I actually found a youtube that shows you how to check to see if the alternator is working.  Hmm.. maybe tomorrow~

Jim,  thanks for the kind words on the hound dawg.  He's grow ing so fast.. today he is actually 4 months old.

He weighs 34 pounds and I think I actually watched his ears grow this past week.  Here's a pic of him today 5 hours ago with his mentor. 100_1452.jpg picture by Blazzin55

I know .. I know.. yeah the date is wrong.. but today his paws are the same size of the pitbull.  Jeanne had me place some sod for the pup.  She swore that if I laid down sod we could train the pup faster as far as 'potty training'  As you can see .. the grass/sod.. is dead.. and I'll be laying more / fresh sod down.

Ok.. I'm glad to be back.. sorry for typing a book.. again~

Yeah, I still have an SCGW plan that has some lighter colors, might still use it on a diesel when I want to get some variety going. Course it'd probably be a GP40-2 or GP38-2 or something. As to the trimmers, it's the South, plants grow quickly. course, no kudzu on the layout...YET

Steamed veggie plate, please.

***Jim, she wan't close. Interesting you bring this up, as I also have many relatives who I think the world of, yet have only met in person a few times during my life.

Never made it into the train room today. After farm chores I steam cleaned 2 rooms, which exhausted me. Oh well, it's still good to remove dust that messes with my lungs.

I'll have a Rio Grande mug of decaf, please, Janie. Thanks!

Jerry, your new loco acquisition looks sharp. Our formerly-seen-here Diner (from Texas), C&O Terry, would love that one, I'm sure. I'd say you did all right on your swapping. Yeah!!

Todd, I'm still catching up, but sorry to hear about your mother's return (even temporarily) to the Stalag. I'm with Ray - I would hope a decent ALF could be found in your vicinity (key word there being decent, as in a place with some good-attitude staff on the premises). Will keep your finding something in w**king with Senior Services that is in that category. Angel Oh, wise choice on your part, to keep that comment under your breath, rather than direct it at Brenda. Whistling Of course, now you have my mouth watering, and I'll have to find Cajun Chef Ryan's website again... Dinner

Rob, sorry to hear of your wife's cousin's death; was she close to that side of the family? (I've seen some branches of families that even due to distance don't actually have a lot of contact, is why I asked)

Jeff, seeing how THAT van looked to begin with, you've already improved its looks 100 percent; next, the running! Thumbs Up

Galaxy, I can see what you mean about a ranch home. Of course, I prefer them because all the homes I grew up in as a young'un, were all one level. Of course now, I live on the second floor level in my apartment, so I was thinking if I ever had to recuperate after any significant doctorin', I would definitely need some assistance from daughter and/or SIL. Got to find that single level house (with basement train room) that I can afford. Yeah, real soon now...

Johnboy, actually, it was me that Jeff (and others) was (were) responding to about the fire trucks. And Chris emailed me some useful links, too, so I have a couple three possibles I'm checking into.

Lee, that barcode scanning/wishlist app you mentioned almost would have me getting an iPhone (though it would mean dealing with the DeathStar - I mean the Bell Mother... I mean...)Oops

Robby, with that Athearn and the wrong-placed step, you maybe could've saved it as a collector's item and sold it on the 'Bay as a 'one of a kind'...? LOL - Hey, they look good, and you did a fine job of moving the step to a more likely location than it started out in. We could talk to your appraiser and try to s'plain it to him, but I think he's not a MRR'er. Smile,Wink, & Grin Thumbs Up on your town, as well.

Ulrich, I know something of what you wrote about your parents and moving to another home. My Mom died in 1977, and Dad was able to live in his own (ground floor) place until respiratory things took him down (former smoker). He would NOT have done well with any nursing home, I'm sure. Ray, sorry to hear about your former student. Sounds like he kept the love of music that you instilled in him, though.

Barry, I think I might have Audrey confused with your wife - or has she never got her license yet? Confused

Chris - glad you're proud; it always helps (in a lot of areas, including MRR'ing) to have good tools to w**k with, doesn't it? Thumbs Up Of course, the ones who'll appreciate those tools most will be the people you can get pulled out of some wreck by using them, I'm sure.

Vincent - a Burlington Northern loco? Shock Imagine that! Whistling Nice haul from the show - that's a passel of cars there!

John W. (jwhitten) - it's been a while since you were in, hasn't it? (Not that I should talk much...LOL) Sign - Welcome back!

About time for me to start winding things down and head for home. On a good note, I was checking my locos today, and was pleased to find that (except for most of my RDC's, which is another project of its own) about all of my locos have geared drives on them - even my old SW7! Will catch up the rest of the way (I hope) tomorrow. Prayers for all of us in need, whether of comfort, good night's sleep, healing of body or soul, or all of the above. AngelAngel

Blessings and a good night, all,

Ray...My niece worked at Torrey Ridge Winery the entire time she went to college at Keuka. Man do I remember her coming home on breaks with a few cases and well...let's just say I now consider myself a ninophile..(spelling?).

Very cool!  Yes there are many world class wineries in the Finger Lakes.

fireman216
good stuff in the Finger Lakes...Blows the California stuff away...

You are very right!  What amazes me is the number of so called "fine restaurants" around the area still not promoting and carrying Finger Lakes Wines.  A couple of weeks ago I went to a "high class" restaurant in Bushnells Basin, NY for the annual BSA Council meeting and dinner.  A gentleman (retired doctor) who has been on the Board for the Council for many years and who is also from my church came over with a glass of wine.  He asked me if I would like something to drink and I told him a glass of wine would fit the bill.  We went over to the bar and I asked what they had in a Finger Lakes Chardonnay.  The girl tending bar said, "We have a California Chardonnay, but no Finger Lakes white wines."  So I said what do you have in a Red from NYS.  Her answer, "We don't serve any NYS wines."  I gave her an earful about the number of awards Finger lakes wines have been bringing home from international contests and supporting our own wine industry here.  She turned to the gentleman I was with and started to roll her eyes.....  He grinned and pointed to his glass of wine and said, "Frankly my dear, compared to what we make right here in this area this is crap!"  Then he started in on them not carrying local products!  I have made a scene in a couple restaurants in Canandaigua over the years (much to my sister's - the world traveler who doesn't like anything local- embarrassment).  Both of the places had Finger Lakes wine by the glass at good prices the next time I went there....

BTW if I lived in California, I would most probably be touting their wines. Well,  maybe not, but I like to promote the local economy where ever I am.
