Good evening.  It was a looooong day at work, so this will be a quick stop.

Jim........Thanks for the comments.  Its a Walthers "cornerstone" kit.   It was $40.00.   I was going to use this kit for the cement trucks, with a small siding for hoppers.   The other cement plant is the main one for cement.  It has three sidings.   As far as your beams, I would darken them a bit, and rust the ends up Wink

The new plant (smaller one)

 The old plant (bigger one).

The new gas tank is strapped up under the van and the fill line is connected but we ran out of daylight. Tomorrow the vent line, suction line and return line will be connected. Then the return line will be reconnected to the fuel filter up front. It's blocked off right now.

Evenin' folks!

Flo just a cup of decaf please.

Robby, nice w*rk on the industries!

Jeffrey, daylight or beer.....???Whistling

Just got home from the local Boy Scout Council's annual Council recognition dinner and election.  Local is nlow pretty much based in Rochester, NY.  It covers 6 counties in NYS.  Since I am the representative from the Presbyterian Church in Geneva, I am a voting member of the council.   Got to see a lot of people I haven't seen in a while.  One person was the scribe from my Woodbadge Course back in 1993...  He was 81 at that time (I'll let you do the math).  He is a Fox Patrol member like myself.  He was introduced with two other gentlemen who represented over 180 years of service to Scouting.

I got to sit with several old friends form my district along with our District Executive and his wife.  He got married a little over two years ago.  Turns out his wife was one of my students way back when.....  They make a great couple!

I have to turn in a bit early tonight as I need to be out at the R&GV RR Museum bright and early tomorrow to play Docent for about an hour and a half.  Then I can come home and start to mow the lawn.  may even get a few minutes in the train room if I am lucky???

Hope you all have a great night!

Was going to say something but now I forgot what it was. Oh well

Prayers for those in need.

Plate of enchiladas, rice & beans, please.

***Robby, both those plants look great, especially with those weathered cars under them. Only thing I would like to see added would be larger copies of "that" Budweiser sign here and there.TongueLaugh

Question: If I had several DCC (N scale) locos with different decoders (Athearn Bigboy, Proto Mallet, and let's say a converted old Concor gas turbine), how easy or difficult would it be to make them all run together as a tripple header? Still have not purchased a DCC system, but am heavily leaning towards doing so soon. Just thinking ahead a bit.

Cheers! -Rob

 Hi Folks,

have not been in here for a few days, as I am haunted by too much worries. My Mom is back in hospital, as the docs have found cancer of the colon in her. Her heart condition does not allow for any surgery, so all we can do is hope and pray.

Zoe, just a cup of coffee for me, please.

I´ll be back later.

MOrning guys

Did not feel well stomach wise yesterday and in a lot of pain all over-wondering if I'm coming down with something with vomiting and diarrhea.

SO i got no work on the train room done yesterday, but I did find a large box in which to put things! Then I tuckered out.

still not feeling well today but did manage to have bacon and eggs for breakfast, and it seems to be staying down- so far.

My other half wants to go today to the Windmill farm...halfway between here and HOWMUS RAY, but I'm not feeling up to it yet anyway. about 1.5+ hour trip. SO we will see. WEve seen it advertised on TV alot, supposed to be crafts vendors and artists and the like there.

Ulrich, we will add prayers over the prayer candle for your mother, and for others who need special thoughts and prayers today.

Jeffrey, at least you got taht far on the gas tank, Thumbs Up, did nephew help you at all?

Well guys, have a great day.

-G .

Just my thoughts, ideas, opinions and experiences. Others may vary.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Good morning all,

Rob,
with DCC they will all be speed stepped and matched so they should run no problem.

Ulrich, truly sorry to hear about your mother…..

Keith, if the jaw looks like a lab then it might have a mix of mastiff or Dane.  Regardless of the breeds the puppy WILL grow into those feet.  May I recommend naming him Moose……?

Jeff, so did you get the fuel tank installed?

Good morning.  Its going to be a on and off rainy day.

I was thinking about making a LHS run today.  Maybe pick up a "weathering" project.  I haven't weathered anything in a few weeks.  Plus I need some money Mischief.  Maybe later I can try to finish up the smaller cement plant today also.

 Ray.......Thanks!!

Todd......Frosted flakes?  McDonalds?  How about just drinking it Big Smile.

Ulrich......I hope it all works out.

I will pop back in later.

Morning. Coffee and a regular stack of Flapjacks please. Yup good ole maple syrup. They talk funny, but boy they sure have good syrup out there. Thanks. Whew, Rob had Enchiladas, rice and beans at 10 o'clock at night. 11 for him. Hope the windows were open.

Ya know, I do believe there are waaay more folks who enjoy Model Railroading the way most of us do, than the ones who bark "perfect prototypical or die you toy train playing hobby killer."

Well I remember what I was going to say last night. But now, it's not worth bringing up.

Robby- Nice cement plant. Did you notice you seem to lean towards grungy dirty things on the layout, yet, you took a job at a car wash? Laugh

Ulrich- I'm sorry. Pray I will.Angel

Well I know what I need/ want from the LHS. BUT..., can't get there for at least the week or so it seems. Just too much stuff going on. Next week hopefully things will calm a bit. Jim noticed I have been getting into Toddland (of which I'm king) more lately. Usually a couple of hours in the morning is my home time. So between laundry, picking up around the house, killing them little sugar ants when we get a sudden invasion like this morning and the like, I try to pop in and do at least something. Even if it's just look or something small like maybe attach one piece on a model, a splop drywall mud or a couple of spoons of ballast.

That being said I believe I will head there now and see what I can do. W**k will take up most of the day today. Plus we are suppose to have storms popping up all over. Today will be they day we lose power. The day I can't get home to start the generator. Oh well, the layouts 40" and, like Lee, the important stuff is in plastic tubs.

Hmm, Robby suggests drinking my Finger Lickin Rub. Hmmmm, I wonder........ FLO! Can I get a spoon please?

Have a Great Day!!!

A couple of weeks ago my digital camera went belly up. Yesterday while we were out grocery shopping and running errands, the wife suggested I get another one. I thought it best not to get into an arguement about it, so I said "Yes dear" and made that the next stop.

Unfortunately, it's a very dismal day here as the rain has returned. So my railfanning plans for this morning have been put on hold. Too bad, as I was anxious to try the new camera out. Even worse, she has suggested a few chores that need doing inside. I think I've been out manuvered somehow. Of course, I get that feeling a lot.

Oh well, better go and get started. Everybody have a good one.

Strongest cup of coffee we have in a  UNION PACIFIC  mug, please.

***Lee, Thanks! Can you also tell me if basic MRC decoders for N scale are any good?

And which brand makes a cheap, yet decent sounding decoder/speaker combo for HO scale? Still need to add sound to the wife's Bach 2-8-0. Thanks again for any guidance,

Still waiting on the Slowest Online Vendor in model RR'ing history to deliver stuff for the wife's layout. When it finally arrives, I'll be busy working on the wife's layout again. Not that there isn't a TON of stuff to do in the meantime. Just no energy at all recently. Guess eating Mexican food at night doesn't help with insomnia.Dunce

Good Morning, Zoe - I'll have a #2 special, scrambled, wheat toast and blackberry jam, and a Rio Grande mug of coffee, please 'n' thankyouMa'am. Smile

Robby P.
Thanks for the comments.  Its a Walthers "cornerstone" kit.

Ah, Robby, it's the one they call some kind of asphalt plant! I didn't recognize it from the other angle. On the beams, yeah, I definitely want them a darker grey than that, plus the rusting. Our MRR club member/LHS owner has one of those 'asphalt' companies on his layout, I'd noticed (last time I was by and saw the layout).

Speaking of the MRR club, last night it was too hot Cool in the clubroom space (don't have the A/C vents or the drop ceiling in yet), as we got to upper 90's (F) and a heat index around 103-105 F during the day. It had NOT cooled down much by 7 p.m. So we sat around a little while and talked about what needed to be done to get the A/C ductwork in, or otherwise how to get the painting done. [Edit] (We were in another room up there that IS air-conditioned, by the way). Well, short of our one idea - show up about 6 a.m. before it gets really hot! - we didn't get lots more done last night. I picked up my order of 3 of the Accurail 40' boxcars I'd ordered (the CP, SP and another D&RGW). The SP one has a '62 rebuild/reweigh year on it, and the lettering I know is the later SP style, but I'll paint over that (and the rebuild/reweigh year - the original build year was '54, I think) and get the older round SP logo decals for that.

Jeff, sounds like the nephew showed up yesterday. What was his response when he found out about how much beer you had (or did you tell him)? You just might have your van up and running before the end of the month. Yeah!!

Ulrich, have added your mother's health to the Angel list (and you're already on mine).

Galaxy, hope you get feeling better, hopefully in time to make that trip to the Windmill farm. Angel

Ray, your meeting sounded like fun, and getting to see a number of friends you knew for a while (Notice that I did not say 'old friends'...) Wink

Bill T., good to see you back in again. Yeah!!

Todd, no matter what was suggested, I'd hesitate about drinking (or having a spoonful dry) of the FL Rub. Shock May your power stay on all day today.

PA Tom, I understand that wives are like that (about the being out-manuevered)...Whistling (But I'll let our married Diners confirm or deny about THAT...) Smile,Wink, & Grin Hope you do get some time this week to try the camera out on a railfan trip, though.

I'll grab a spot at the window booth and watch the morning switcher doin' its thing out there. Prayers continue for all of us in need of comfort, healing, and other things.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Yeah, he showed up near dark. His response was astonishment. He considers me a miser because I can live off of less than $700 a month and he spends more than that in two weeks.

"Coffee and Morning to all Diners!"

Yeah yeah.. we had another earthquake.  A small one.  I know last time I said to all of you,  Native Californians take the earthquakes with ease.  Its the people that are not used to them, that panic. So,  if you saw on the news the baseball going on during the quake, well, you saw people laughing and just riding it out.  Although, if it was a shaker.. that might have been a different story.

This one was more of a rolling one,  continuous and steady.  It lasted for 45 seconds and nothing really bad.  I kept waiting for something stronger or at least gaining in momentum... but nah.. just a small one.  When it happened I said to Jeanne.. 6.2.. 200 miles away.  Well I was close,  but it was only a 5.7.  Nothing like the last one.  That last one,  I've never imagined a cavern with large rocks or bolders tumbling.  I've never felt / heard one like that last one.  The sound of bolders falling deep inside the earth was a bit much~

That one that hit Alaska in the mid sixties,  well that one lasted for 5  minutes.  Can you imagine shaking for that long?  Now that Sylmar quake.. well since then..  after a min, you start to wonder if its going to get bigger.  The Sylmar earthquake, it lasted over a minute and seemed to get stronger after each jolt.  I still remember that morning,  all I wanted to do was go back to sleep, but the after shocks were just as bad, I finally got up 30 minutes later.

Now as far as my layout goes,  well the small details are getting to me.  Its just about time to put the diorama on the shelf and work on it in between gluing times of other projects.

Yes the small details.. no not the ones on the diorama.  The things to come~

Oh.. like wiring the train yard tracks.. even the weathering of the yard tracks.  Maybe I surprise everyone with boring pics of my train yard.  I actually layered it with small changes in elevation.  With the newest main line.. the highest.. then graduation on down each level from second main line to the train yard.  As you all know, I'm trying to fight the 'flatness of a layout'.  Thats all folks.  I'll be sitting in the corner reading up on a few posts.

I just wish I had something good to post! .. lol.

 Good afternoon...

Rain rain go away! We be looking at ark-building how-to's. Baseball was washed-out last night, softball likely will this evening as well. Oh well, I've got some other content for THAT...so THAT means the possibility of some RR Room time.

ROBBY P: I'm liking the cement plants Thumbs Up I'm also really liking the Budweiser ad...I remember it oh so well...Whistling

JEFF: Glad the gas tank issue was resolved, and THAT it is being installed. Your nephew sounds like he's "busy doing something close to nothing" as the "musician" formerly known as Prince once sang. Or, perhaps he's "too busy doing nothing" as was said in the movie "Trinity is my name." Maybe you should deduct beers from the total stash as the hours tick away until completion...

VINCENT: I've got the wide-vision coupla boxed...if you still need it, shoot me a PM on how to get it to you.

We've got lightning about, and we're getting zapped...so shutting down.

A good, DRY and SAFE day to all...

 Its afternoon already??

Well I've been working on my next weathering projects, and the plant.   I got one car faded, and the other car is getting grimed up right now.  The cement plant is about done, other than adding some scenery.   Here's a shot of it.

I had to paint the part I painted black all over again.   It turned out better this time.  I also bought a cement truck today from the LHS.   Of course it will get a bit dirty also Mischief.

Its afternoon already??

Yes it is, by golly!  I spent much of the day at the R&GV Museum conducting tours for several classes of 5th. graders. They were on a field trip from Brighton, NY.  I consider this stuff fun!  I have always enjoyed teaching 5th. graders so this was right on track for me.  Got some history in, a lot of information about how railroads run both now and back then.  Mosty important, I did a bit of "Operation Lifesaver" stuff with them as we looked around the museum.

After they all left, I hung around shooting the breeze with some guys for about an hour and a half............

Ulrich, so sad to hear the news about your mom.  My prayers also go out to you and yours!

OK, now I best get to w*rk......Smile,Wink, & Grin

Later!

GRRR, I hate cats. Take a look at what my sister's cat did Guess where the coal in the tipple went? Look on the track to the left. Most of that was post-clean up. The tipple was knocked over with all the approach trackage pulled up. A Cheap BR Mk1 and a brake van. That cat knocked them over pawing the debris pile I had. All that is left of a pile of rubble in the station yard.
I want to throw that cat outside soooo bad. I got some parts and I wanted to repair a locomotive I had, guess not. Now it's post-kitty clean up. A LARGE fried heart attack please. and a diabetic comma to drink.

No Rob, those aren't cattle cars, those are cat-killed cars. I do have some cattle cars, but out of shot. That's why I keep my Bachman Spectrum shay, and Hornby B12 up stairs in my room, out of reach of my little cousins when they come to visit. (YIKES. My mom's cousin's kids are the worst offenders. It is getting to the point at times where I have to guard my room like Fort Knox to keep them out. Best not to ask.)
well, the repair work is done, so now that blasted cat should stay off my layout, if she doesn't, she is outside. Anyone want a free cat?

Good afternoon, I'll take a plate of cheeseburgers (for me and Rerun) with a large Cherry RC Cola please 'n thank-you...

Ahhhh, another tale of kitty-created disaster. ***WARNING, ANTI-CAT STATEMENT FOLLOWS***

TEEN STEAM FAN: Cats are inherently EVIL.

THAT said, Mr. Rerun almost became an outdoor dog early in his career when as a pup, he pulled some freight cars off of a shelf. He then proceeded to chew them into near oblivion. He also got ahold of some limited edition die-cast fire apparatus. I came home from w**k to find a fleet of FDNY pumpers on the kitchen table in various states of destruction. It looked a little like something from the FDNY shops post-9-11.Disapprove  I was able to repair most of the Engines, 2 became a parts source as they were just too far gone... Steps were taken post-haste and forthwith to isolate Young Mr. Rerun from the expensive stuff. Funny thing was, he ignored the Hot Wheels and Road Champs stuff...went straight for the Code 3 Collectibles! My dog knows quality when he sees it!

Then, there was our wedding day. A very young nephew escaped the "supervision" of his parents and found the trains. "Trains CRASH!" he happily said as my mother found him sitting on the floor, bashing rail cars and locomotives together. Disapprove Angry

With critters, doors and deterance.

With kids... ***WARNING, RANT ENSUES***...where are the parents?? WHY are your mother's cousin's kids allowed to run wild, do whatever, break things, etc.???? I was taught THAT such actions would surely result in DEATH!Shock Let me guess, when the little darlings break something, it's just shrugged off right?  YOU probably get "in a jam" for barricading your door, and/or getting upset when YOUR things are broken. It just shouldn't be THAT way. Loving Wife and I were talking about this just the other day. She still regrets not putting everything up out of the nephew's reach. I still maintain THAT WE shouldn't have to have worried about THAT... THAT it falls upon the parents to...*gasp!* PARENT. I saw it again over the weekend as a bunch of young kids climbed all over a small apple tree, pulled developing apples off and threw/dropped them all over the place. ONE PARENT told a kid "it's not our tree...leave it alone." Thumbs Up But, THAT same parent, not long after said to the kid "I've asked you several times now to leave the tree alone."Thumbs Down "ASKED?" "ASKED?" How about "I TOLD you to leave it alone...now your butt is grass and my name is Toro!"???Mischief

SoapBox SoapBoxSoapBoxSoapBoxSoapBoxSoapBoxSoapBox

OK, OK...rant ends, soapbox goes back to the corner...for now! Whistling

In other words, TEEN STEAM FAN, I KNOW your pain... and it's all 100% preventable. Kitty-proof barriers to the RR, and a CLOSED door to the kids coupled with some responsibility on the part of the "adults."

As Mark Levin says: "THERE, I SAID IT!"

Gee...I'm in a foul mood again...

Yeah Chris, you do not want to meet my mom's cousins. I would post a picture here of the precautions I take, but I would have the FBI knocking on my door. It looks like a WWI bunker. They used to have a little, little one, but he passed away a few years ago. We honestly think that the Good Lord sent him here to try and get some sense in their white-collar city slicker heads. I could of saved him alot of trouble with my fists. So they pass it off as a reaction to his little brother's death. (RANT!!!!!) [explicative removed], I can't drive around giving my buddies a lift when riding quads, but I guarren-***-tee you that this little mother will be in more trouble when he is my age (16) than I'll be total in my life, when I am 70. My parents do try and stop them from wrecking my stuff as well as my sisters, but I take my own steps as well. Like I said before, Fort Knox. The parents enable them. The most expensive things my sisters have are dance shoes. Me, I have a 1952 Farmall, a 1990 GMC sierra and Jeep Cherokee, and a 1998 Jeep Cherokee. Then my model railroading stuff. All of it I bought myself, and I have cousins whinning to my mom because I'm being an *** and not letting them play with them. Bless my parents because they do explain to them that I bought them, so they are off-limits. But they come from, what I call, the White Collar region. (In case you haven't picked up, I am blue-collar proud, and a redneck. 8). ) I drive through it almost every week, guess what? ZZ Top blasting from my Jeep. If it makes em mad, I have reached my goal. (I'm done)
As for kitty proof barriers, forget it. Our basement is completely open and my dad won't let me undertake the construction work to finish it so I have that. Even if I pay for the materials!!!!! For now, cheap models and keep all my good ones up stairs. I do try and train the cat to stay off the layout. When we first got her, She was up on it all the time. I think there is still cat hair in the workings of some of my lesser ran engines. Sprays of water worked the best, but not perfect. It wasn't until I was fed up and threw her off of it and across the basement she finally got it. Anyone want to hear about the cat getting stuck in an air duct?

SteamFan, take a closer look at my previous "cattle" car comment....or the one I just wrote.Smile,Wink, & Grin I think we're on the same page. And I'll third those previous comments about parenting.

It"s here! Well, almost. Found one of those parcel slips in the mailbox this evening and it's from THAT online vendor. My wife's MRRing stuff has arrived. We'll pick it up tomorrow.

Me, I have a 1952 Farmall,

SWEEEEEEEEEEEET! M? H?

I'm not really sure what color my collar is... I've had "white collar" jobs, I've had "blue collar" jobs. Either way, and don't doubt me... idiocy and self-centered arrogance know no color!! What it comes down to is personal responsibility, and basic old-fashioned common decency coupled with some simple respect for others and their belongings. There's just too many knuckle-dragging reprobate chowder heads out there THAT lack these traits which are essential to a civilized society.

Thumbs UpThumbs Up as a local stagehand, I worked the Recycler tour at the former Five Seasons Center in Cedar Rapids. I've always had a desire to own "The Eliminator." Cool Cool stuff....

It seems to me, there's been a plethora of discussions on cats and how to evict 'em from the layout. I'm in favor of dispatching kitty to wherever it is they go when the 9th life has been spent...Evil But then, ya go back to respect for others and their belongings...can't really execute your sister's cat, unfortunately. There must be some deterrent to keep kitty off of there. Live wires on the power poles? Switch to three-rail and keep the center rail "hot?" An old buddy used to put Tobasco Sauce where he didn't want his cats to go...hot pepper too. Seems like once kitty got a nose full of hot pepper, it learned fast where to not be!!Mischief

Farmall H, I did all the paintwork myself.
I'll have to try the Tabasco sauce trick. Normally the cat is pretty good. Besides the occasional (about every once a month maybe more) I'll have a non-corridor 4 wheel suburban coach sitting on it's side step. Trust me, I've tried to ban Charlie (the cat) outside, or at least, to my dad's shed. But then the problem of cats in cars, my old GMC, scratching up the paint on stuff, including my Farmall, and last thing I want on the inside of my Jeep is cat hair. Dog fur is hard enough to get off the carpeting. Cat hair must be a nightmare, and I keep my Jeep clean.
