I spend about 2 hours a day on average, but it can be alot more, never much less, unless I've got to go someplace.

Noah- at work, the 'puter is on line 24-7, so when I get there , I check the forum ASAP, then minimize it, checking back throughout the night, trying to dig deeper into the back pages.
It always surprises me just how much dead time there is on a quiet 8 hour shift. Before forum (BF) I would draw trackplans or read, but now it's more fun to see what all of you are thinking.
When I get home I usually snooze a few hours until it gets too bright, then I'll check again to see what was added. And for the past week or two, the rain has been coming down so there is even more downtime to sit here and veg.
Speaking of neverending rain, how's your layout rebuild coming? Are you going to make big changes or restore the status quo? I like the ARK idea, keep us up on it.

philnrunt, I think I'm going to put it back together so I can run trains for now, but I might draw up plans for a new layout anyway, and change it over the next summer, who knows (well, I should-but-I don't so....)

I come and go several times a day, so overall I guess I must spend about 2 hours every day, more or less (leaning on the "more" side).

I have to limit myself to 15-20 minutes a day on this forum. I need to spend more time on model railroading.

So many hobbies, so little time!

If you define it as the Trains forum, only about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes. If you want to include about 5 or 6 different sites, it's closer to an hour and a half (the other sites don't have that much traffic).

Lately though, with all the UP bashing and what will Horizon do next, I don't spend nearly as much time as I used to.

I spend about 45min to an hour on train forums, about 1-2 on car forums (I moderate). On days when my health isn't all that good, I spend a little more.

Hi again Noah, I usually put on average 2 hrs. a day. Alot more in the winter months. Lately I have not been on here all that much due to long days at work & the usual yard & home up keep. Once the basement is back in shape I'm going all out on my layout & take a weeks vacation to get her up & running so then I'll spend about 20min. or so just to check up on this site. PS; Unless I need advise for my layout.

on the average 1 hour and mostly from 5 pm on just before dinner and I call it my happy hour. Sometimes when I also connect to the Atlas forum or some other forum here in Europe (yes we have 'em too) things may get out of hand or should I say out of time.

Noah, I've been home the past seven months recovering from a couple of major surgories, so have had a lot of idle time to spend here. Never gave much thought to the amont of time until you made this post. Must admit I spend tooooooooo- much time here but, the fine people we have here has made it addictive and is hard not to leave or hard not to click the putor on when I get up in the morning to check in. Is there a Model Railroad Forum Asylum out there to get help ???[(-D][(-D][(-D][:O]

I'm averaging 45min., sometimes an hour. With school, work, and homework, I'm lucky to do that. I added a link on my desktop (actually Microsoft Network's icon), to "Active Topics," by clinking on the Active Topics link, then file/properties/
swipe the address/URL by left click and hold across the entire link, right click, select copy, then exit the properties window, reselect file/send>shorcut to desktop. I review the Active Topics before I read the Trains mag e-mail. If I have not been to the website, since midnight, and have to log in, one letter activates my auto log-in. Then the page automatically refreshes back to the last time I visited. If I'm lucky, someone has brought pics or a link, to chase and surf by, which I install in my Favorites folder. Cutting/Pasting...is the only way! ACJ.

I average less than 15 minutes each time, but I usually get on three or four times a day. I am watching Fort Madison live trains at the same time tonight and a BNSF freight just went by to the west. You can watch trains and talk about the models at the same time.

I was trying to think how in the world I missed this topic, but I see that it was posted during a peiod when I was very busy with other things. When I'm not busy, I can spend 8 or more hours. How do you think I got all of these posts in 9 months?

Have to confess that this past year, I've spent so much time daily on this forum since January 04 that it cut into my actual modeling time. I'm talking 2 to 4 hours a day or evening! This is why I have well over 1,000 posts. [:0][:p]

Nothing to do with trying to acquire stars ( In fact, I wi***he darn things were eliminated!) But I've often been eager in posting questions and posting responses to people that I think would benefit from my comments or info. I can't complain as it's my fault, nobody elses and I've had a good time. [:D][8D][;)] Part of my "obsession" has been that as a model railroader I have two close friends that I share the hobby with, but because of work and community activities, I seldom get to see them. [C):-)][C=:-)][4:-] Like many of you, I get to "talk trains" here and feel very comfortable about it ! Difficult to do that at work or school! My wife, though patient and supportive, doesn't know what a GG1 or an F40PH is, but most of you all do!

However, being flamed recently "woke me up" [:0][8)] as I had not even realized that I was becoming repititious in some of my responses to fellow modelers. The jolt from Dgoodlander made me realize that spending too much time here cut in to quality time with my family and my MODELING time. BTW: Dgoodlander and I are o.k.

On the home front I stll have:
[1] locomotives to re-motor, bodies to detail (including see thru fans & grills)
[2] P2K E7s to strip and repaint,
[3] E&B New Haven passenger cars to assemble,
[4] Passenger car interiors to paint and install lighting,
[5] Freight cars to repair!
[6] Figures to paint
[7] Layout planning to finish

I've let myself become sidetracked. I'm not leaving this forum, no way! Nor am I joining any other forum. I keep reading so much "hype" about the Atlas forum but I've been very happy here. Info here has been outstanding and has saved me from making mistakes with my rolling stock as well as purchases. I will still visit and post but I'm cutting my time back to 10 minutes a day.

I want to say a special thank you to: Jfugate, NHRRJET, ErieDiamond, Dgoodlander, BentnoseWillie, Dave9999, BigBoy4005, Son of BBSky (Grayhound Challenger), Cacole, M636C, Bill Matthewson, Don Gibson, and the rest of you all.

Keep encouraging each other and put out any "sparks" before they turn into flames, guys. If you do join Atlas, don't neglect your home here! A home is what you make it! [:)][:D][8D][8)][4:-)][C=:-)][C):-)][tup]

I won't be here as often, but I'll still be checking in!

God Bless!

I'm in and out of here many times throughout the day (thanks to a T1 line here at work), so it's hard to add it all up. I'm usually not on for more than a few minutes (at most) at a time.

I have one of those tedious desk jobs, so I cut in and out at various times to break up the day or I’d go crazy.

In all, I probably spend too much time. I need to cut back. [*^_^*]

Hi Noah,
I propably average an hour per day on the forum. It varies depending on what else is going on and how much I've got to do that day. I'll usually pop in in the morning before I get started with the day's projects and then again in the evening after dinner. I enjoy it. I've learned a lot, I've gotten good useful answers to my questions.Hopefully I've been able to help some others with their questions. I particularly enjoy stopping by the coffee shop for coffee and conversation.

Have Fun,
Tom Watkins

Thanks Antonio, I must admit I do kind of play the "post count game", but that is not my true motivation here. I really enjoy talking about TRAINS, and sharing my experience in the hobby, in an effort to help others.
