I did some electrical surgery on the GP30 today. I removed the capacitors that can (and often do) cause the DCC board to strange and not so wonderful things and also removed the resistors that were limiting it's speed. I didn't much like it crawling along at full power. Now it moves much faster at full power. Eventually I'll pull the chintzy Bachmann decoder and replace it with a Digitrax DZ125. Until then the Bachmann board will have to do.

Well, I see from the clock on the wall that it's getting on to bed time. Main project today, since the weather still held, was to put a support leg under the deck at the side of the house. There should have been one at that spot, but they just relied on nailing two deck sections together. Over time the nails have pulled loose, and the deck squeaked and sagged. Got it all done, and now will have to do the other side of the deck section further down the side of the house, as it's made exactly the same, but isn't in such bad shape....yet! This is actually the first bit of deck work I've ever had to do..... Mrr wise I tried to program Rule 17 lighting into the Digitrax DN163A0 decoder using my NCE PowerPro System and the CV#s TCS Decoders have for the Rule 17. No dice! In fact doing so lost any reverse light function. No worries, thanks to factory re-sets, but I'm now waiting to hear back from Digitrax Tech Support on the matter.

Oh, so I think I mentioned about the 'blind date' I was going on last night. After the game, I found out that my friend was bringing the girl, the girl's friend (I had already met her last week), me, and him into town. But it gets better... He had to make a quick appearance at a wake, but needed clothes (let's just say what he was wearing wasn't really great for a wake...). So we stopped at our other friend's house, he grabbed clothes, and we all went into town. We sat outside the funeral home while he went to the wake, and then we got food. We went to Veggie Heaven, an Asian Vegeterian place. I'm not into Asian food, and I'm definately NOT a vegetarian... So I just stuck with the fruit salad.Anyways, I guess the blind date went pretty well. It was awkward, but I was expecting that. I dunno what'll happen, but we'll see.But anyways, the story keeps going... My friend (the one who set the whole thing up) and I then met some other friends at a party. Well, it ended up getting late, so we just stayed there. But it was pretty fun, and we just hung in the hot tub till it got really late. Then we went to my OTHER friends house this morning, and then practice. and then I FINALLY got to go home!So yeah, that's my story novel about what happened with the blind date...
Well, I'll shut up now. Between being extremely busy and the forums being down, dunno when I'll see you guys again.

Not that I don’t know who they are, but as I read posts on a busy day or if there’s a lot posted since I was able to get in I glance at the Avatar out of the corner of my eye, I guess, and I must not really pay attention to who says what and then well, I confuse myself sometimes. Luckily that happens very rarely, but like this time it does happen.

a "dull" day again, just gray and awkward. Nothing specific to do than the regular household chores and job-hunting in the internet. Economy is still pretty much down over here, so there are only few opportunities. I still have more than 20 open applications, with no answers, yet.

I ordered the stuff for my benchwork, but the folks gave me a call yesterday evening. Shipping cannot be made by regular service, so the charge is an additional $ 75 instead of the $ 12 as stated on their web page . I canceled my order with them and will go to my local "Baumarkt" (Home Depot). I need my friends station wagon to haul it away, so I will talk to him tonight. Could even speed things up a little...

Joe - Blind dates? Now, just about everybody thinks they are awkward, but still they happen. Take your time - finding the partner for life is not easy. I was 27 when I met Petra, just by incident. I had just split up with a girl in France, after 3 years of "going steady". On the way home from Paris on that very day we split up, I suddenly got hungry, stopped at a pizza place and the waiter dumped a pizza on my lap. That pizza was meant for a girl sitting next to me - Petra. 6 weeks later we got engaged and are now married for over 25 years . when I saw her, I knew, she´d be the right one for me.
John - I wonder, where you get all those pictures from - burning trestles, toppled locos. I hope you are no re-enacting those accidents on your layout
I like your clock. The loco on it is a German Railway class 01.10 3 -cyl. Pacific, built in the late 1930´s and re-boilered in the 1950´s. Some of them were converted to oil-firing, but this one not. They had about 2.300 hp and a top speed of 90 mph.

That horrid lamp will have to go - I will mount a lamp underneath the benchwork to light up my workplace. As you can see, I still have to fit those floor boards to the wall - a job I don´t like very much - too old for crawling on the floor

Mornin, an irish coffee please Zoe. Got a chilly start to the day here [34] had to fure up some heat. Suppose to be up round 60 laters with sun, might have to do some outside chores after lunch. Went up to Paris last evening for a G-kid track meet n it was sure cold, 50 with a wind. Jussy didn't do very well, 4'th in 200 yd, and was trying to pole vault with a heavier pole and couldn't clear 11'. Just not enough bend in the pole. He goes back to his lighter one for Saturdays meet.

GALAXY,,,,, I know what your going through with the pain. I've been dealing with for a number of years, got so bad last year I ended up in the hospital. End up going to a pain specialist, who gave me a shot in my spine, it sure help. It might be something to look into in your case.

As for plans, today shampoo the dinning room carpet, and other chores. The weekend Deb and her mom are going to her cousins wedding in Evansville Sat. I stayin home and passing up the chance to spend 6-7 hour with my MIL. Still quietly trying to talk Mother into Springfield Sun for the swap meet. I don't hold out much hope; since it's a 3 hour drive one way.

I made sure everything was working on the layout yesterday. Seems like everything went good. The track is a bit dirty, but that will give me something to do. Not much planned today. Maybe clean the house some. Later go into the basement.
Ulrich........I LOVE the clock!! I have brick in the basement, and I can't really hang anything. I have paneling board going into the basement, and it has a couple of pictures (puzzles) of some trains. Also your train room looks nice.

Good morning all. Huge Big Eatin’ Breakfast platter please and coffee thanks. Gotta stock up for the weekend I guess. Doesn’t sound like the place will be open for lunch here in the Midwest or Central States, depending on whoever you talk too. Woke up to frost this morning. May not get any mowing done today. I hope so, but with the temps only about 63 though sunny, there will be no wind and as tall as the grass is it may not dry enough before I go to work. Tomorrow is to be in the 70’s sunny and remain there through at least Tuesday so, maybe tomorrow.
Ulrich- Beautiful woods you have there. I’m afraid my wife, if my train room started out looking like that, would not allow the transformation. I am pleased to see the lack of baseboards. I have yet to reinstall mine also. Makes me feel better to see someone else hasn’t gotten ‘round to things as well.
Ray- Though I must admit, for some reason, I am most partial to the first photo you posted, this last is number two for me. I agree if you could find some cylinder puffs it’d be great. Take your time, you have all weekend.
Inch- If you get in before closing time, I got one coming back attcha.
Think I’d best get doing something, busy weekend. Some vehicle maintenance, lots of outside stuff to do and the inside…. Well, to be right honest, lately things have been put off for Spring Cleaning, which is supposed to commence this weekend I’m told if all goes as planned, and I do declare we are living in a filthy mess. I had to take a vacation day so the gas company can install a radio transmitter on my meter, or they will shut my gas off; nice of them to be so threatening. I hope they send a skinny technician, a fat one will have issues crawling under the layout to get to the meter closet.Urlich, thanks those were my first try at apple trees. The club layout orchard will be much younger Macintosh apple trees. A friend asked me to service his childhood locomotives from the 1950’s, all metal Marklin European style units. I’ll try and post some pictures tonight.Last week it was 80F-90F now today the high will be 47F, nice day to be sequestered in the train room, maybe I’ll get something accomplished. I spent my MRR money on a new cell phone, believe it or not to save money I bought an Apple IPhone, I should save $10/month on my current service once the initial cost of the phone is paid ($149), and hopefully it will replace my aging laptop that I carry when I’m out of town.Lee

Good news for the weekend- found out that coach cancelled tomorrow's practice, and actually encouraged us to go to the Big City Classic, even though I was already going. I'm surprised he cancelled it because of "extreme heat and all our hard work in the games this week"- somehow, I think that's mostly BS, since yesterday he just told us to leave practice, didn't even make us run (although it was 90 on Wednesday, and about 105 on the turf...).
Well, that won't make today any easier, so I gotta go. I'll see you guys when the forums come back up- and I'll catch up then.
Good morning. It's 41 and sunny. The high will be 73.I started work on the Bachmann GP30 this morning. Getting the handrails off without breaking them wasn't hard, which makes me think that getting them back on will be anything but easy. I darkened the shell with a black latex wash that was allowed to dry just enough so that what was left after I wiped it off looks like grease and soot smears as well as some paint oxidation. I'll let that dry good before the next step. That will be to add some rust highlights below the vents and some of the door hinges. The trucks will be a little tricky. Perhaps the best thing to do there is to remove them then weather them. That will give me a clear shot at the wheels too.Remember it as it is here because it's changing fast.

Well, I see we have about 2 and a half hours before they shut everything down on us. Guess I will spend the time getting as much done as possible on the SLOW, possibly mowing lawn for the first time this year, and weeding out the herb garden. May also see about adding some steam from a leaking cylinder on photo.....
Last night at the Camp Properties meeting, I talked with the guy who was (retired from it last Fall) the committee chair for our Science and Technology camp. Looks like nothing has been done at all for this years camp! Nothing! So..... Looks like the camp is gone (at least for this year). Well, one more week I have to w*rk on the layout, I guess this Summer. We are not happy campers. I did get a visit from the commissioner of the troop buying my trailer when I got home last night. I just need to contact the scoutmaster and deliver the trailer to his house. I will do THAT right after I haul one last load in it myself. Camp has a bunch of "dead" refrigerators to dispose of. They have a Scoutmaster who owns a business that can recycle them, but we need to get them to him. I volunteered.
Hope all of you have a great weekend and don't suffer too much "withdrawal" symptoms of not have the coffee house fare. I see all of you as soon as they get the site up and running again!

Morning all, think I'm going to make the post in before we're closed out for the weekend. Oh well, leaves me a little more time to not be lazy and work on some stuff around the house. Like getting a new tire for the riding lawnmower, and/or doing some general yard work. Its a little cooler today than it has been, dunno if I like it yet or not, was growing fond of the warm days and riding to work without a jacket and all. Oh well, it'll warm up again soon enough.
Guess I'll be taking a chilled 55-gallon drum of RBF with me as I know I won't be able to make it back in here all weekend long.

I have been putting in lots of hours at work lately and the progress on my staging yard has slowed some, but I did find some laminate flooring underlayment that is only 1/8" in thickness and quite rubbery, so I have put that down as a trial to help quiet the hollow core doors that the yard will be on. I think I will level ballast most of it with sand. i will keep you posted as to the success of this venture.
We have an Alberta Clipper coming through here today. Winds up to 100 KPH. The snow is only supposed to come within 80 miles of us. Sure hope that is right. CN Charlie, be glad the boat sold, you won't have to worry about that when the wind gets there. The wind has upset four semi trailers in our area and visibility is cut way down either with blowing snow further north and with dust and dirt and tumbleweeds here in the south. It is a good day to keep those car weights in your pockets if you are going out.
Hope you all have a great week-end no matter what you have planned. Mine again is mostly work. Too darn much work for a fellow who is supposed to be retired, doncha think ?

I'd hate to admit it, but the canadian postal system may be worse than the US one (if that's possible; could just be border issues), but 12 days is a bit much, don't ya think?
