A Good Friday Mornin' to all!

Zoe I'll have one of those big blueberry muffins and a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug. I'll go sit in the front booth and watch the flowers growing outside.

Currently 71°F here in the Finger Lakes with a high of 80°F predicted this afternoon.  Lots of sunniness outside as well.  I think I will do some clean up around the outside of the house of stuff THAT didn't get done last Fall.  Need to get last years ferns out of the asparagus bed before this years starts to come up (which should be soon).  Will also spend some time remembering what today is about.

As far as the,  uh, discussion.....  I am quite comfortable letting Science be Science and my Faith be my Faith.  They are not dependent on each other, nor does either disprove the other.  For me, that is.

Hope all of you have a good day!

[edit]  Oh look! lunch is on me.  Order up and enjoy a good hearty lunch, friends!

Sawyer, I'm more of a Evoation guy- ya know, somewhere between the two. In Theology, they tell us not to believe EVERYTHING we're told, so I don't say that's not how it happened, but I don't say that's how it did. But THAT's a completely different topic, and I'll just leave it at THAT.

yeah. There's probably a million and half different versions and blendings of creation and evolution.

Well, I've got nothing really planned for today. might do some work on the layout, maybe going to the movies later, i'm not sure.

Hey y'all, we found this awesome radio station this week called Air1 I've been wondering for years why no one had started a radio station like it, never knowing this was out there.

Trainman Sam
I have my verbal tomorrow for Morris to Mantua, and a verbal on Tuesday for 30th Street Station and "Terminal District".  I have a bit of studying to do so I'll be in the corner booth for a while.

Whistling

Hi Sam,

I just wanted to wish you well on the upcoming exams.  It is an exciting time when you are changing careers and especially going into one that you are really keen on.  Good Luck Buddy.

Good (FRIDAY) Morning to you all,

Sorry you had to work on the Stat Chloe, but seeing that you are here, please russel me up some scrambled eggs & ham with sourdough toast and a lemon tea. Thanks Mame.

Well I got to sleep in this morning, and my tenant who rents my rental property just dropped by to pay the rent for the month. He is a commercial painter and a good guy to know. So I set him up to paint the trim on my place here in the next little while. I just don't seem to find the time for it. Much more important things to be doing, like railroading or fishing maybe some early season camping.who knows. but much more interesting than painting trim. Right now I can afford it, maybe when my wife retires and I do too, for the forth time, maybe I won't be able to and will be forced into it.  Hope not.

Not too much on the agenda for today. Might go out for some BRUNCH with the good wife.  Then maybe lay some roadbed and track into the staging yards, if I can get the track plan there to my liking.

The snow is almost gone here, just some of the bigger piles that haven't completely melted yet. But we could still have a late season storm smack us.

I had been asking about "BLUE HILLS" and if anyone had seen or heard from him.  Well I guess he has been pretty busy as it appears that he is a Rep for MRH. and was working at the train show in Moose Jaw as an exhibitor.  I ran across an article that he did for them on the Thunder Creeks Rails Show.   Glad to hear you are alive and well (even though tired) Blue Hills, and a great job done to boot. Now if we could just find FERGIE..............

I think the scenery is a little better from this new track, we can see the girls at the swimming pool across the street here while we suck on our RBFs and discuss the more manly details of railroading and sports and such.

Have a great day Gang,  will check back later.

Johnboy out ......................for now

I'll be at the RC where I can--bloooaarrtt!!!!---Sigh whoopie cushions again---

Sorry Barry, I had one of TODD's left-over from some time ago...been meaning to give it back to him, really I was. Welp, I figured since this is the Season of Renewal, I'd just set it there for him; so he could, you know, pick it up at his leisure. Mischief

Good afternoon! Double cheesburger basket with a large Cherry RC Cola please, and thank-you.

The Dinosaur story lives! Mr. Boss agreed, THAT is what we do: put the wing-nuts in the paper, and give 'em their 15 minutes of fame. I'll talk next week to the U of I and DNR... and see what they say about it all. This won't be a large article, emphasis on his effort and ultimate goal. Hopefully, I/we won't paint him as too much of a loon...

Good morning all. Happy Good Friday, and THAT it is.

I agree whole heartedly with Ray on....er, uh, the "topic"

Nothing for me thank you as I was typing my post, I received a call from Brenda, I will be meeting her at the Huddlehouse for lunch. I wonder if she wants me to pay? Silly question.

SPRING HAS OFFICIALLY ARRIVED!!!!! You can tell, ‘cause Jeff's working with the G scale.

Still a tad bit achy. I chose to accept a little job helping a farmer clean up his hedge rows. Mistake. I knew, from past experience, (many times because I never learn), the first real exertion you do in the Spring after a Winter of laziness, should not, I repeat should NOT, be wielding a chainsaw around at shoulder height and above. And dragging logs and such all around all day. Every muscle lets you know it‘s there the next day. It‘s kind of a good ache though. Don't tell the wife.

Dave!!!  Sign - WelcomeThe others seem to have filled you in and I assume Jeff told you a bit about the place before you arrived. I also assume you have peeked in the window a time or two to see what goes on in here, so you know how subtle an instigator he really is. Sly. Just sits in the corner and grins like a fox eatin' briers.

G- That is exactly how they found my problems and the symptoms are just about the same. Make sure they check the lower vertabra for narrowing of the holes the nerves come out of. Not an internet diagnosis just what was/is wrong with me. Nothing serious, but limiting and not much they will do for it but change some ways of movement. (supose to were some sort of back brace like the things you see in many warehouse type stores) Just a thought as it sounds just like what I went through til they found out what was wrong. For quite some time I too thought it was pulled muscles. After I couldn't take it anymore I went to se a Doctor who thought the same thing. It was the P.T. guy who said " something more is wrong here" called the doc and got me in for X-rays. Thus leading to my eventual removal from the military, but, at least when I do something wrong and the burning and numbness returns, no ones depending on me to live.

Congratulations Sam!

Let's see what have I done RR wise. Hmmmm. OK. Still working on the mini trestle. I've stained the abutment, wings and the cross beams (or whatever they are called). Built the other abutment and have the wings for that side to build. Am working on one of the two bents. And I got a Pratt Truss bridge kit by Central Valley for the other area. It's 150' long, I need 100'. Scale of course. It is difficult to find a 100' bridge that will accommodate my angled track it crosses. Supports you know. There is one by Micro Engineering, But I could probably make mine the same way with a bit of scale I beam. But its open deck plate girder, and with the trestle and the other open deck plate girder I'm going to use elsewhere I wanted something with a structure above the bridge. Besides with that type, it eliminates the problem with supports under, other than, of course, the abutments. I hope I will be able to make it fit my area by building it shorter. It should. It might end up dominating the area with it‘s height. I hope not. We'll see. Hey, if I can rebuild the Golden Gate Bridge, I can do this. Right? What?

Oh, I guess you're right. Gotta go.

Have a Great Day!!!

Hey...

Don't congratulate me yet, as I am now "Out of Service"... I failed my verbal today.  I didn't "KNOW" the railroad as much as I thought I did.  I have now typed out all the information I need.  I copied it right out of the book so I will be SURE to have the correct information when I do my re-take on monday. (What I had before was handwritten notes, and I couldn't read my own writing! DOH!) Please pray that I have the memory to remember all of it, as if I fail the second verbal, I will be jobless.

I know I can remember all of it, and I will be reading and rereading the "Study Guide" all weekend!

I got my copy of the May MRR today!  Along with a "renewal" letter, have to talk to the wife about renewing for the three year subscription!  As I KNOW I will still be employed on tuesday!  Which leads me to the next Verbal, for 30th St Station! Yippee!

Anyway, I know there are people a whole lot worse off than me, so if I only have my job to complain about, then I shouldn't be complaining!

I think I'll give the B-mann decoder another shot, maybe it's not fried... I think I might be able so get it programmed yet!

Have a great weekend if I don't make it back in!!!

HAPPY EASTER!!!

Sam

Hey SAM, sorry to hear about the setback. I won't say "don't sweat it," as I know you're probably "sweating it" pretty heavily, and I wouldn't blame you in the least for doing so. I'm not sure what you have to memorize, but what got me through critical parts of paramedic school (Advanced Cardiac Life Support, algorithims for treatments) was near-constant repetition and recitation. I would litterally keep saying them over and over and over again. That's part of why 11 years later, I still remember it was: epinephrine (till the cows come home) with lidocaine, bretylium (sp.), magnesium sulfate, and procainimide (sp.) for V-Fib and Pulseless V-Tach. There was also a memonic going with THAT...but it isn't suitable for a family-friendly forum...Mischief It's a good thing my girlfriend at the time was also in paramedic school...any sane person would've run away from the fool in the Fire Dept. T-shirt talking to himself, repeatedly repeating himself! "Shock shock shock, Epi shock..."Whistling I also copied my notes, over and over and over and over again. ACLS was a must-pass. I wouldn't get fired, but I also wouldn't have continued in the program until I did pass.

My best wishes to you, good luck...you'll nail it!

TODD: THAT  Central Valley truss bridge "should" w**k out just fine. Since the beams, girders, etc. are cut from stock material, you should have no trouble building to the length you need and skewing it. Can't wait to see pics of it. I built THAT kit when I was 18, on a TV tray, in a dorm room. THAT's why mine ended up as 3 scrap loads with a 4th load waiting to be placed as a pile in the future scrapyard...Disapprove

Chris- I'm sure I can get it shorter, you're right it is built in segments and two segments plus two slant ends makes it the correct length to fit. The decking, if not segmented in the correct spots, can be cut I'm sure.  What I'm most afraid, I guess, that the height compared to the length would make it look extremely tall and would just over power the surroundings. Make sense? I'm going to use their template and make a sort of paper mockup to see just what the size will actually look like.

Good Evening All,

   Todd,

I have one of the CV bridges and it should fill the bill for you. most all of it is modular and the main girders that support the track lend themselves to bashing. The bridge tie sets are also available along with the girders if you need more. I dropped the height of my superstructure and modded the cross pieces on each end to suit and still clear (no double stacks on my road so no issue with fouling). A lot of time to build thebridge, but well worth the effort. J.R.

not the best shot of the finished structure, but you get the drift.

Hey folks. been lazing aroudn today.

I do have two videos to kick off April though. I finished up planting the weeds between the two lines, now to continue on that role. should be a few weeks long project.

First video is railfanning. I don't have enough cars to fully simulate all the trains but I did the best I could with what I have:

Next up is an update video. there isn't much but there's been several requests so here it is:

Todd: I've seen some pretty tall bridges out west that actually did kind of overpower the scenery. One that isn't out west but is/was(?) in PA(?) called the Starruca(sp?) Viaduct. Now THAT overpowers the scenery! Smile

 Evenin' folks!

Flo, just a cup of decafe for me.  I'll go sit at the rivet counter for a bit.

I spent some time doing some railfanning on the SLO&W tonight.  Collecting some photos for my clinic in a few weeks for the NMRA Division.

Brought a couple with me to share.  These are photos I will use both for the "how to take a photo part of the clinic"  (part 1) and the photo processing part (part 2).  It will be around robin group of mini clinics each part being only 15 minutes.

and another form a slightly different angle using a 100mm lens.

More are posted in the WPF thread.

Hope all of you have had a "Good" Friday!  Hope you all have a great night as well.

Ray, those are awesome looking pictures. I can almost see the exhaust plume bellowing from the stack and hear the beast chugging out of that tunnel.

Well all not much happening for me tonight, was going to start some weathering practice on my SD40-2 (since its in CSX YN2 paint and I will be repainting her into the current YN3 paint scheme when she gets renumbered, but I've seemed to have misplaced my art kit (has some charcoal pencils in it that would be great for doing the exhaust soot on the roof).  Oh well, I'll find it here before too long.

I also thought to bring by the leftovers from tonight's meal.  We had crockpot honey BBQ babyback ribs and maple and brown sugar pork and beans.  So here's the crock and the pot of beans, y'all eat up!.  I'm just going to have a RBF and sit here at the RC and see whom all strolls in and through.

And I have the top, so y'all eat up, the tab's on me

Got called into work. I'm now not only the mercenary farmer, as a co worker calls me, but a mercenary kitchen worker too!!Laugh

J.R- Thanks for the picture! I love it! You have a very impressive looking set of structures there. I wish I had been around while you had your layout! (I think I have said that before. Just wanted to make sure.) I really like the bridge and yes it will fit the bill. I have also seen the style of bridge probably about as short so I can justify, since I make my own history (gotta love freelancing)such a heavy bridge for a sideline. Used to be a mainline back in the day. DoneApprove. Anyway, I'm just afraid the physical size will be too large. The more I set there and look, I'm loosing that fear. We shall see.

Barry- Oh yeah, I know in real life there are some pretty big overpowering structures. Seen my share. But I just don't want it to look like I've put an HO scale house in an N scale neighborhood.

Rt- Good to se you again. Jerry shows up quite a bit. Inch..., now we haven't heard from him in awhile. Of course with the family it keeps him pretty busy. Still, kinda wish he'd stop in and tell us all is well.

Ray- GREAT! Now I have to decide which picture I like best. I like the one with the glare off the headlight.......but I also like the one without..... First one seems to be a bit clearer.....Can't make up my mind. I've decided to like them both.

Since I'm hungry and Bama's menu sent me over the edge, I'll just have what's left of it. What do you mean I can't have it all!!!! Man oh man does that sound deeeeeeelicious.

Prayers for those in need.

 Good morning.  Another sunny day.

This is a good way so start the weekend.  Yesterday morning I went to let the dogs out, and I stepped on the corner of the porch to yell for them to come back in.  Well The porch (corner) broke off, and splintered all over the place.  You can tell that the corner has been replaced but it was pressed wood, rather than a better wood.  Hopefully the homeowners insurance can fix that.

Other than that, a day out of the house.  Maybe do some shopping.

Hope everybody has a good Saturday.

Good Morning All,

Was that really RT's head I saw pokin' through the door Jeff? Good to see him stop by.

Todd - Hopefully in the next year I'll be able to get started again on a layout. I have the bridges stored away and some of the movable parts of the previous layout though not the area where the CV bridge and the Beichenstaller(sp) bridge above it was since they were part of the flooded area and also carried the bracing for the swing gate which warped when soaked.

Another day at the shop trying to meet deadlines so I'd best get on with it. No matter what we load the truck Monday and it's off to Savannah.  CUL, J.R.

Robby P.

Hopefully the homeowners insurance can fix that.

Be very carefull with that Robby!  If you make a claim for something less than say 5-10K to repair Your homeowners insurance rates can be jacked sky high, your renewal denied, and can be a hassle to get new insurance once you make a claim on any homeowners policy!!! That's why it's better to have a high deductable on your HOI, so you don't turn in the smaller claims. ANd it doesn't seem to matter how long you have been with them, either. A neighbor had *Ahem* Company for 27 years, no claim, made one claim for 3K to replace rug and panneling in the basement recroom after a plumbing leak and they cancelled his policy. He found his policy premium to be 600% higher after that claim anywhere else. MAny others have similar stories!

Beautious Saturday here..already quite warm. Have a headache...it's either from the heat yesterday or from the change in the weather pattern bringing us these 80* temps. Not complaining mind you...just

We may uncover the a/c today but supposed to rain the next few days in the 60s . Still could make the trailer warm.

Well gotta run boys and girls, men and women....

Good morning all. Well this is what has happened since I saw you last Zzz. Rained a bit last night though not as much as predicted thankfully. Did not have my rain gage out yet so I really have no idea. But I set it out this morning so now I can know how much rain lands in my rain gage. For whatever use that is.

Watched the dog in the back yard. Grass suddenly is up to her elbows and makes for, apparently, uncomfortable potty zones. I will have to go through the mowers and get to mowing before we see just the top of her head and the occasional nose poking up to sniff her way. It's not even May yet. Yeesh.

Brenda just left to set up for the Easter Egg Hunt today, we should have a decent day for it. It's open to the public so if any of you want to bring the kids by please do. Starts at 1:00 p.m. and it looks like the rain will be long gone by then. Coffee's on me and we can stumble down stairs and cypher out some stuff on the old pike. Ray, I think the granddaughters would love it.

I hope to get some MRR time in today. It looks good for it. You know, the occasional trip in and a few minutes here and an hour or 8 there.

Have a Great Day!!!

Good morning all,

Beautiful outside here with the temperatures climbing to 80F today.  This is a bit of a shock since we just hung up our winter coats on Wednesday!

House cleaning today, including the MRR areas try and get things ready for a July open house.

RT good to see you in the diner again, how are things down south???

Mornin' everyone!  Hope you are all having a glorious Saturday where ever you are!

Had trouble getting online this morning.  Had phone (VOIP), cable, but no internet.  I reset everything a couple of times, no dice.  Finally unplugged the Cable Modem and the Router, shut down the computer, and went and did something else for about 15 minutes.  Replugged and it came back on.  ????  They may have been doing some w*rk on the system, or my stuff just needed to be off long enough to reset.  Who knows?

Zoe, I'll have the #2 special, over easy on the eggs. sausage, home fries, and a double order of sourdough toast with strawberry jam.  Oh and lots and lots of dark roast coffee in a R&GV Mug if you please.

Currently 73°F here in the Finger Lakes under partly cloudy skies.  May may it up around 79°F this afternoon.  Way too hot for this time of year.  Yesterday we broke the all time record for the date by 4°.  Actaully thought about the air conditioner...........Whistling.  Neighbor across the street is busy doing yard w*rk.  I will very likely do some more cleaning up of the asparagus bed today.  Probably check out the garden as well.  Need to take down the pole bean trellis and pick up some stuff our there.

May actually fiddle with a few things in the layout room, although I am pretty much at a standstill except for putting together the photo clinic.  Ooooo, the neighbor is taking down the Christmas Lights!  It must be Spring! WhistlingWhistlingWhistling

Catch you all later!

Ray-Occasionally my internet connection does that. Rarely, only a few times in the 3 or 4 years I've had it, but it has. The lights show it's connected but I can't connect. When the cable company came and installed the system the installer said it may do that from time to time and all I have to do is, like you did, unplug the modem, let it sit for about 30 seconds, plug it back in and it will reconnect. So far the 2 or 3 times it's ever lost connection, that has worked. Apparently this is normal.

Just started to do something on the RR and Brenda calls. Needs something for the Easter Egg hunt. I knew I'd get roped into this somehow.Sigh

Good afternoon. It's 73 and mostly cloudy. The high is due to be 83 and it will remain mostly cloudy.

We got a 1/4" of rain last night along with a lot of wind. I had gotten most of the G Scale toy train on the display track in the front yard weighted enough that the wind wouldn't bother it, all but the caboose. It's 3 feet from the track now on it's side west of the track. That tells me the wind was blowing east to west. I spent the morning in town with my father. We both went and got haircuts. I needed one. I was starting to look like the Geico caveman. From there we went to breakfast at B.J.'s Diner then to Wal-Mart. I got the remainder of the grocery shopping done. Finally got home about 11:30. I'm just going to take it easy today and let my feet rest. They've had a beating today.

Galaxy.....Our deductible is $500.   If ours was higher we wouldn't be able to claim.  Plus we pay about $27 a month for the insurance (Allstate), and we have a 15% discount for being a claim free house.  Our part of the state in their systems is considered a "state of disaster".   Most of our gutters are bent, the roof on the back porch is sagging, and a several other spots.   The insurance person told us to look all over the house so when the adjuster comes out to point everything out.

Chris.......Found you a CNW hopper today.   Nice and NASTY!!!!

Awwwwwwwww ROBBY! Yer makin' my eyes start to sweat...Smile,Wink, & Grin Actually, other than the..."unmentionable, non-RR applied graphics package," THAT old hopper is looking pretty decent! The Zito yellow sure seems to hold up well sometimes. It's a shame though THAT the "Ball and Bar" is so faded out.Disapprove I've got one of these sitting in the "to do" pile. I won't be going THAT heavy on it however since I'm going for the '87-'93 era.

Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood Afternoon! Double cheeseburger basket with a large Cherry RC Cola please 'n thank-ya... Hmm, an Easter Egg? TODD must've been in here. Oh well, beats a whoopie cushion, I 'spose.

Shot an egg hunt in Swisher for THAT Editor this morning. Three minutes of opportunity, then it's done. Over. Finished. Probably the most challenging shoot of the year! Since THAT said she will NOT need the pics for Monday, I've got a bit of a lull. Therefore, I'm getting some MRR w**k accomplished! Big Smile I'm finishing up one MDC Roundhouse boxcar, and upgrading another. 'Tis good to play with styrene bits, paint, glue, and X-acto blades after a long week of "being productive."

Have a good'un,
