Just hooked up the night dose of the antibiotics. It'll take about two hours to all run in through the iv. I wouldn't mind it so much if the stuff wasn't so cold. It has to be kept refrigerated until time of use.

Here's the other other covered hopper as it sits at this time. It still needs more work.

Packer
Jeff, how often are you replacing the starter and what brand are you picking?
One to two times a year. I use what I can get from the scrap yard. No way can I afford a new one. That's almost $200.

Evening ya'll

Got a new clutch quadrant and an aluminum driveshaft put in my car. I was a tad skeptical it would make a difference, but holy crap it does. The old driveshaft weighed 30 pounds and the new one only weighs 12 pounds. The car is a lot more responsive to throttle, acceleration has improved and the clutch pedal is a lot firmer; the only down side is it's a bit trickier to get it rolling (manual). I'll get used to it eventually. The new power steering line came in this afternoon, so that will go in soon.

Jeff, how often are you replacing the starter and what brand are you picking?

Sawyer, good job on the locos. When is the next project vid or theme change?Big Smile

Joe, those white cleats will weather very quickly, if you know what I mean.Smile,Wink, & Grin

Ray, nice weathering on the steamer!

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

For dinner tonight I had taco soup. After the time I had earlier it sure was good. I've been working on the other Bachmann covered hopper off and on today. My aim is to give it the just this side of a rust bucket treatment. I should have it back together tonight. I wish there was a way to separate the upper and lower parts of the body without damaging the ladders but there just doesn't seem to be any way to do it. Tomorrow will start with another visit to the hospital. I have to get blood drawn so they can make sure I'm getting enough of the Vancomycin. Then at noon a nurse will come out here to take more blood. Every Wednesday, the same thing.

Ray, fortunately, we have a turf field, so they'll be fine for home games, but not so much for away games with grass... But a quick run through the wash every once in a while, and they should be good!

And EXCELLENT weathering job on that steamer! Appearance of a hard working locomotive, but not like you went crazy with it
Thumbs Up

Good Tuesday evening Diners!

Trainman Sam: I didn't make it in yesterday due to the fact that the CFO gave the go-ahead for the Zephyr... So I have been reading the "Technical Manual" ever since we got home last night around 7pm...  I believe that once I finish the manual, I will be qualified to operate a Nuclear Power Plant...

Jeff:That thing is a bugger to read isn't it? I hadn't seen anything like that since my early days in computer programming. I think that gave me an advantage as I had no problem understanding it. Hex and binary are old hat to me.

...I had a look at Fergie's Digitrax system when he invited me over some years ago. It's mainly why I went with the NCE Powerhouse Pro. Here's their manual - period! Downside is only 6 spaces on the re-call list - and they told me when I asked a week or two back THAT is a basic underlying programming thing not likely to change any day soon.Thumbs Down

Barry: Sorry to hear about your run in with the DUI. Glad you weren't hurt.

Well, I'm just leaving Page 62, so little chance of catching up and commenting this evening. So I'll just bring you up to date with the Service Stand project, and I've a question when I'm done. This is what the built unit looked like before painting. I used Blacken It on the deck and steps to try for the metal (but not brass) look for those. Didn't take too well. I found dry brushing over that with a light grey did a half decent job, but keeping the etched holes clear for the see-through look was a challenge. MT Service Building and Equipment Green plus MT regulation safety yellow for the hand rails finished it off.  Finally, I put it on the layout, but didn't like the spot I'd chosen on the turntable lead near the sanding tower anything like the place I've now got it. I would also have had to make a concrete pad to replace the grass and weeds in the former location, but here there is ballast for the most part. Jerry, that's as close as I can come to layout progress photos. LOL. The stand isn't glued in yet.

Now my question. What things would be on such stands as permanent features?  I can imagine lights - but would there be lubricant barrels, pumps and hoses as in an automobile "Jiffy-Lube" shop? What about stuff underneath the stand for servicing the trucks etc. I don't mean heavy work like changing them out, just between trip maintenance. Any help would be appreciated.

I'll be over at the RC with a bowl of seafood chowder and a coffee - thanks Chloe.

Evening All,

I'm coming in here to get out of the rain. Hope nobody here got flooded out, especially if the trainroom is the basement. I'll have a big glass of ICM and a handful of chocolate chip cookies for desert.

Howmus - I like your weathering job. Nice and subtle without being overdone and making the engine look like it was ready for the scrappers torch.

Jeffery - Glad to hear your feet are feeling better.

I'll be at the booth by the window.

Evenin' folks!

Flo I'll have the Hot Turkey Sandwich with fries and a big Garden Salad with Italian Dressing and Crumbly Blue Cheese.  And, a Dr. Pepper to wash it all down.  I'll check out whatever didn't get destroyed in the dessert dept. later.

Joe..... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up  Cool!  Now, White cleats...???  Don't worry i bet they won't stay THAT way!Wink

Jeffrey glad for 1. your feet are doing well, 2. you got the fuel line repaired!  Feel for you about the starter.

Oh!  Ulrich, I meant to say that I like the layout design and hope it provides you with lots of good times!  You deserve some!

Drove to Canandaigua today and had the starter safety switch on the clutch replaced today at the dealer.  It was under warranty and took less than a half hour. Stopped at the Podiatrist's office and paid the deposit for the new orthotic inserts for my feet.  (Man do my ankles, feet and even knees feel better - should have gone back several years ago!)  When I got home I decided to finish weathering a USRA 2-6-6-2 I started on last night.  Just wantd to dirty it up and take off the shine, so to speak.  The before:

The after:

Hope you all have a great evening!

Evening/afternoon/whatever everyone. Jeez, it's a wet one out there!

Wasn't able to make it in yesterday because of our scrimmage. It went pretty good. They owned us, even though they didn't keep score.
I played a lot of LSM in the Varsity game, and defense the entire time in JV. Personally, I did pretty well.

IM ON SPRING BREAKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, today was the last day! Got out at 11:30, and had to make up an essay I missed last week (when I was sick) because today was the last day of the quarter. So I did that, and went downstairs and found out practice was cancelled. And I had missed the bus by 20 minutes, with no way of getting home. So my mom picked me up (I would have just gone into town and probably stopped at that LHS there, but it was pouring) and I just chilled at her school for a while.

We went to Dicks and got me new cleats, which I needed really badly. They are so sick! They're all white, and that'll look sweet with the white jerseys and white shorts.

Guess that's about it. I have a few pages of catching up to do, so I'll be caught up before we move in a few days.

Jeff - Had the same thing happen to the fuel pump on my old Escort but of course it died in the middle of a frog strangling downpour so I had to swim upstream whilst fixing it by the side of the road.

Been there and done that. I had to turn onto a one way street one time going the wrong way to get out of the highway traffic. It was an easy fix. Five minutes and I was back on the road.

Good Evening All,

Just another coffee to go before I take off for the museum and model train night.

Jeff - glad there's no real news on the feet. Had the same thing happen to the fuel pump on my old Escort but of course it died in the middle of a frog strangling downpour so I had to swim upstream whilst fixing it by the side of the road.

Sawyer - to make an echo - nice job on the locos. will we get another progress video soon?

Jerry - good job you didn't use red paint in the pan - you'd have been caught red pannedDunce

Rob - sorry about the confusion on the enquery about retaining walls  but you can see the similarity in names right (Barry - Garry - Rob)?  I should just claim a senior moment and quit while I'm ahead. Catch y'all later,  J.R.

Sawyer...I forgot to say something about your engines, and your layout (background shot).  Seems like its coming along well.

Thanks Robby. I'm hoping to plant some more weeds today and run a train or two. Good lrod knows those engine decals were a PAIN!

Back from the docs office. They redressed the wounds on the left foot and took some X-rays of the right foot. That's about it. On the way back home the car quit on me. Took me a bit of looking but I found the problem. The wire going to the fuel pump had a break in it. Fixed that and it fired right up. The next job won't be so easy. The starter is cutting up again so I can tell it's coming time to replace it.

Painted some tree armatures (twigs) the other day. Tis' time to turn them into trees for the wife's (HO) layout. A few looked good enough as-is to skip the foliage and use as "dead trees".

Have a good day y'all.

Regarding retaining walls, I have numerous retaining walls. Before making one decide what kind: concrete, stone, or timber. There are ready made at the hobby shops. You can make them out of wood, plastic or plaster. Molds are avilable for plaster ones. Color as desired with acrylic paints or whatever you choose.

 Mornin' Bill!

Mornin' everybody!

I slept late this morning.  Think I needed it.  So for breakfast I'll have the #2 special, over easy on the eggs, homefies, bacon, a double order of sourdough bread toast, and a very large FGLK mug filled several times with dark roast coffee!!!  THAT ought to tide me over 'til suppertime I think!

Good lord!  This place is a mess!  Oh there was another pie fight.  Zoe, I would make the perpetrators clean it up!  Hope OSHA doesn't show up here this morning!

Not a whole lot going on here today.  Have to take the Yaris up to Canandaigua to have the start switch on the clutch pedal replaced.  Then I will think about whatever else I want to get done.

I'll go sit in the back booth and stay out of the line of fire.

Later!

Morning Ulrich, my strudel loving friend ,

Sorry about yesterday, I called your Pike "Potters Lane" and not Bishops Gate.  I believe Potters lane was the prototype for you.  Is that right??

How is the sleep coming along ???

Johnboy out.........................for now

Johnboy - good idea - I am going to talk to Petra about that strudel - have not had any for a long time! Big Smile

Potters Lane is the name of the pike build by Dave of Westcoast Miniatures, which served as the "prototype"  for Bishopsgate, which is actually a "goods yard" and loco depot in London. So I am not that way off with the name. Will think about your idea with the canal and the road.

Sleep´s still not good - I am always up by 2 am!

Morning Ulrich, my strudel loving friend ,

I'm still on that same theme, doncha know........

If that plan was mine, I would taper the canal off to the right of the row houses and use the canal area on the right side as a roadway coming in from the right to service many of those building. (and buses too).

But it really looks like it will be a winner.  Looking forward to your benchwork .

Good Morning~  So,  yesterday.. Jeanne says to me.. before she went out the door.. "Be sure to open all the windows.. and sliding doors.. to let the cool air in.. its suppose to get HOT today"

Well,  I go to the back door.. and the weather gauge says.. 49 degrees.  Now I ask you.. what would you do?

If you opened all the windows..with 49 degree weather,  how long would it take for your house to cool down.. to 49 degrees.?  Yep.. about ten minutes worth.

Well the sun was shinning.. but heck I hate to be cold.. I really do~  So I didn't.. and if you are not ready for summer.. let me tell you..  Its hot and sweaty.. armpits itching.. sweat running off your brow.. and it was 82 degrees yesterday.  Yes.. from a chilly 49 degrees.. to a 82 .. wet t shirt.. pitted out hot day.  Be careful what you wish for~

Galaxy.. just the person I'm looking for.  I asked Jeanne this morning speciffically.. whats the secret of growing the orchids.  Heres what we agreed on.. and what she said afterwards.

LIghting.

Type of orchid.. broad leaf

Hot summer sun, west window

Coffee pot steam and steam from the sink.

But here goes.. she said this morning.. that she waters/fertilizer once a week.    And she does that because the bark.. is the only thing down in there..and she says that dries out a bit. I know she and I have jumped the up in size of planters.. because the smaller ones.. don't hold the water that well.  I know she doesn't over water either.

So good luck.. I wish we could help you two more.  I knows this .. if the blooms didn't last so long.. (2 months) and weren't so pretty.. it might not be worth the effort.

Today I shall finish up on my diorama.. (train station)  with hopes of painting it tomorrow.  I need to paint the background rock faces.. so I can lay down track  then sidwalks,  roads and then buildings.  Then the fiber optics.. lol.

Robby P.

Good morning.      Maybe hit 80 deg. later this week!!

Yep Same here! Isn't wonderful?

Robby P.

I go into work later today (3:00pm).   I hate having mornings off.  You forget you have to work!!

Yeah I always hated working second shift. Wasted a lot of mornings as you have to be careful about getting into  a project then forgetting time and being late for work. But income is nice whether you work 1st, 2nd, or worse yet, 3rd.

Sir Madog

Zoe, is it safe to come in? I don´t want to get a pie

Shhhpritz!

I always wonder if it's safe in here. While we may all play with trians, I think we can grow up a little. Pie throwing is so juevenile and so yesterday. Many places would htrow the throwers out the door and ban them forever! I'll bet the teenagers who hang out in these rooms have more maturity than some here!

Maybe we should install a big 6 spigot shower in the diner so we can all wash off that pie.

Of course, I've said before, while I like pie, CAKE is good too! Let them eat CAKE!

Gotta go pay my Medicaid spend down today. Sign - Off Topic!! When they talk about the costs of Medicaid as a bad thing on TV due to cost to taxpayers, etc, etc. and whatever other excuses they have about Medicaid Health Insurance, I would like you'all to know Medicaid ain't exactly free to everyone!! I pay 18% of my paltry disability check to have my medicaid insurance backup my Medicare, which i pay for also. I spend $268 per month to have my insurances. Not chump change for someone's income of just less than $1k a month on disability. Others live on less or pay more to have their insurances. And we get no cost of living increases for two years. And yet the gov't voted tehmselves nice handsome raises. People who are elected into offices should have salary reviews/increase/decreases voted on by their constituents. That'll fix 'em. Fortunately for my new benefit year starting now, there was no increase in the cost of  my insurances.SoapBox

Actually we've had a few minor bonus checks floating in so I need to deposit them too, today. Seems like whenever we need some extra bucks, some materialize from somewhere. aLso my other half, whose hours were cut all the way back to 12 hours a week to 18 hours instead of the 35 hours supposedto be have been picking up a few hours so that will help.

Makes me nervous about my new van payments, but we are building up a stockpile that is equal to about 3 payments already. I want to make more payments as we can to get that sucker paid off. I's hate's payment's! Like to pay off the 5 yr note in 2-3 yrs. Would make my day.

WE are also trying to save for a house as well. so double benefit to the extra hours my other half works. Hoping to become permenant with 40 hours and benefits. WOuld be nice, but not when they cut you back to 12 hours? I tell you.

Well, I digress, Have a great day everyone!

TrainsRme1- Welcome back. Every once in a while things get a little wild around here. No one's hung from the light fixtures in a while thoughWhistling.

Robby- I know what you mean about starting work late in the day. I thought it would be great as I'd have all day to do stuff. Instead, I spend most of the day watching the clock and saying, "can't start that" or "have to be home by...." I'd rather start in the morning, get up, get ready, go to work, get done, .... Done. Rest of evening is free.

By the way, anyone who throws a Pecan Pie is just plain mean. That's like throwing a slush ball in a snowball fight. Black Eye

I have no idea what I am going to get involved in today. I do not have to work tonight just at about 1030, or tomorrow at all. I hope I find myself able to go to the FLHS this week I'd sure like to get the bridge I need. I like to skip around on projects . You know, start one, start another. That way I have a gazillion things started and nothing finished. You know, worked all week and got nothing accomplished. Story of my life.

Good morning. It's 42 and clear. The high is expected to be 75 and it will be sunny.

I weathered several freight cars yesterday including one of the two new Bachmann Heritage Fund hoppers I got. I did a light weathering job on it. I intend to do that other one as somewhat of a rust bucket partly to set them apart but also to hide the fact they have the same number. Can't read all of the number if you can't see all of it. I also have an appointment with the foot doc around noon today. Not much else planned for this first day of passover.

Jeff - love the latest weathering efforts. I agree with Johnboy about the ladders but don't think it really detracts from the overall effect. How did you do the overall fade?

The fade/rust effect was done by applying several thin coats of different shades of rust colored latex paint with a brush then using a paper towel to drag the paint down from top to bottom.

Been raining here for three days now with up to 6" total predicted. Still trying to jockey things around so we can get trailers loaded and cars finished all at once. It's no wonder I can't sleep lately.

The tech seminar went well here Saturday with over 100 people attending and the rain holding off until Sunday. If we get pics posted I'll see if I can get one dropped here.

Ulrich - I like the new track plan a lot. If i did my conversion correctly it ends up about 10ft x 2 ft overall and would w..k well for any shelf in HO as well. Very nice!

Lee - you've been busy as well. I'd love to see a shot of the wiring for the turntble when it's done. Will you have a switch for each track ?

Jeff - love the latest weathering efforts. I agree with Johnboy about the ladders but don't think it really detracts from the overall effect. How did you do the overall fade?

Garry - (or was it Barry?) cheapo retaining walls can be had from a variety of prefab sources. Plastruct makes some 24" long sheets of random stone that can be made to work as well as some of the Faller or Busch sheet castings. Chooch makes a bunch of retaining wall castings that can be relicated if you get the molding stuff (Michaels or HL) and plaster. Micromark make embossed paper sheets that can loolk ok with a little weathering. The  cheapest retaining wall I made was out of wooden popsicle sticks glued together side by side and then weathered, If they look to wide you can always split them to a more suitable width.

Gotta run - lots to do again today. Besides if I stand here too long I'll get an unoedered pie.  Catch y'all later, J.R.

Lunchtime in Germany!

Chloe, make that a turkey sandwich and a coke, please.

Did a bit of MRRing today. I reworked the snow plows so I can fit them once I have installed the Kadee coupler. They were not in today´s mail, so I have to wait another day or two. I will also oreder some new detail parts, like air barke hoses and steam hoses, but this time white metal castings, which are a little bit stronger than those bl **dy plastic ones.

Here is a pic of the reworked snow plow:

I also did some finishing touches on the rack plan, finalized the bill of materials for the benchwork and will post the order in the next days (when April money is on my account). Things start to roll!

CUL!

Zoe, I´ll have a towel, coffee and a breakfast bagel, please n´ thanks.

Talking about all those itsy-bitsy parts that you can send flying into orbit with just a pair of tweezers - in order to install my Kadees I had to take them off again. Which I did yesterday and guess what? All of them either broke apart or went into orbit!

Banged HeadBanged Head SoapBox SighWink

and of course, the snow plows won´t fit anymore. I will have to rework them. Sad

Should the mail man bring my Kadees today I will be able to show some work tonite!

Have a good day!
