Thanks for the B-day wishes. It was a pretty good day, I got to Castle Trains, my FLHS, and picked up the #4 right hand turn out the lil 4-4-0 will use to get to the station in the tourist town and some scale lumber for the trestle. Tom, the guy that works during the week in the day, both days, was real helpful with the sizes of lumber to get. Get THAT from the internet! Ok so I could have got it here, but I needed it there and I keep forgetting to ask or do some resear.... Well, you know what I mean. Anyway, got slammed hard at work last night. Was behind most all night long. Started out the prep work from the night before wasn't done. Half the topping bins were empty. The ones you had to cut up, dice or mix of course. So, when I came in and there were two pizza orders hanging and no toppings prepared. Then it hit, everybody wanted pizza. They somehow knew the toppings I had to get cut up or we were short on. Then discovered, the hard way, the guys the night before didn't do all the dishes from the night before and we ran out, had to stop, and wash some dishes just to be able to serve like three times, and, of course, that throws everything else behind. Snowball effect ya know. I'm going back to work, this retirement is too hectic.
Ulrich- Nice, uh...., whatever that is. I kinda like it. It appears to be pretty good job of weathering already. Does it come that way? Or is that a "model shown depicts a few options and custom work done. The model you receive will not look like the picture" picture. I'm glad you are being able to get some Mring in. Your tone seems much happier. I think it will be good for you. Therapy. HEY! There's an idea, see if you can get the railroad financed by calling it "Therepy" (EDIT: I'd spell it correctly if I were you though)

Keith- Thought of you yesterday at the FLHS as I was doing the "after getting the needed stuff perusing" Saw an El Camino by Model Power. Only it was yellow and was a '68 or '69. Still almost bought it, 3 or 4 bucks. I always thought they were cool. Best of both worlds ya know.
DerJohn- Yes I agree. I have no problem with an employer using the "likely to get tips" reason for paying minimum wage. But here they can pay them less. I agree with you, I don't think that's right either. If a person does something and a customer feels they want to give them a bit of a tip, THAT should be between the patron and the server. I also have a problem with tipping off the bill. Should it cost me more because my meal cost more? Even though the waitress made fewer trips to my table on a $25 dollar steak dinner as she did on a $7 burger and fries over at the next one because he had umpteen refills and I had one? I know others feel differently, but I have literally run myself ragged on a less than $13 table of four with one 2 topping large pizza "and 4 glasses of water please. Could we get some lemon with those? Could I get some more ice? Oh, I'm sorry he didn't want any ice in his water. Can we get a dough ball or something to occupy the kids? Could she get some ranch dressing for her pizza. I'm sorry now he'd like some ice." and breezed right through a $50 table of 2. Irks me to get $2 to run a rut to the 13 dollar table of 4 (Hey, 15%, they tipped well) and barely even bring anything extra to the couple who left $10!!!!

well, the weather is back to what is normal for this time of the year - dull, overcast, a little drizzle now and then - at least it is much warmer than a few weeks ago. Not a time to be spend outside, though.

Had to fight with PayPal about my payment to UK for the loco I have ordered. They were not able to allocate the payment to the order. It was the only order on my account ... how stupid! . Needed to drive to the bank and re-issue the payment. I am not sure whether this will turn out right now.
I will see my neighbour this weekend to talk about building the benchwork with him. He has a full set of woodworking tools and that extra pair of hands is always welcomed. I have to solve some construction issues on the sector plates, as I have never build one before. Proper indexing is an issue for reliable operation. The plan is now finalized - all I need to do is to make a 1:1 print from my CAD program to check whether all will fit the way I want it. There are some clearances which may be a little tight
For those who collect track plans, here is the updated version. I "softened the s-curve and re-arranged the terrace houses a little.
Keith - when I was an exchange student in Washington State back in 1973/74, that El Camino was high up on my favorite list. Those cars where quite handy to go "watch the submarine races" - a phrase used by the teenagers of Bainbridge Island for Friday night dating... I remember there was a spot at Hood Canal where you actually could see subs go into Bremerton Shipyard. Ah, those memories of days gone by

Right now as far as the layout is concerned.. I took Jims advice on Avalanche city.. and am planning on doing some major surgery on that cliff hanger. tone it back a bit. So as you can see~ I take everyone's advice into consideration.. even Jims..~ lol. i think I over did it a bit much .. and I thank you Jim.. ~
Bama.. for what its worth. I've been having fun just cleaning this baby up. Fun things.. well some car fanatics are crazy about certain things. Myself personally.. I have this thing about Front License Plates. They usually mess up the looks of the car.. and I usually take em off. Only once have I been writen up for no front plates. But on the El Camino.. well.. I dropped the front plate down.. almost unoticable, and out of the way of the trim on the bumper. I'll try to get a pic of it. It looks much better. As far as the paint.. well I think it was waxed one time.. in its whole lifetime. The paint.. is there.. but the lacquer finish.. or the clear finish is has an 'orange peal' look to it.. so I've been using "Mother's" car polish /3 step / wax. I've tried all sorts of polish and wax.. and the 'Mother's' seems to really do a great job. I'm even on the lookout for a chrome exhast tail pipe.. with a mellow 'varoom' to it.. just dumb stuff like that.. but its fun. Even gonna check out on some 'twin tail pipes' installed if possible.
I forget who asked.. but to me.. an El Camino is a truck.. and has the suspension to handle some fairly heavy cargo. It may look like a car.. but its a truck. I even like the fact that it comes with Chevy installed 'Air Shocks' and they work just fine after all these years.. and hold air. I've put some in .. and placed the Elk on a slight 'Rake' Looks cool~

The Halifax TV station we watch most for our weather news has been showing pics of Nova Scotia bridges. Today it was the East River Bridge, Sheet Harbour, and "Cindy-the-weather-lady" said she'd never seen it. So I took the camera on my walk this evening. I'm sending her pictures of Sober Island Bridge - and inviting her to visit our community. LOL.

Went to the LHS today to pick up a few tubes of flexible paint for handrails. I took a cursory glance at their train stuff and noticed that they are now MSRP. They also don't have any kits (all pre-built buildings) and almost nothing in HO. They did have atlas trucks and I need a few sets of trucks. On the plus it's usuallcheaper than ordering.for small things and they have been a pretty good help with the paints and stuff.

Kieth, I'm not really sure what El Caminos, Rancheros, or Bajas are supposed to be. They are somewhere between a car and a truck, but I'm not really sure where....

Got the yard finally cleaned up/out. Today we got to 17C (62.5F) and the sun, being all bright, was strong enough to cause a few of us to have sunburns. Went to the doctor's today as well and ended up with more prescriptions. I got those and that was when I went to finish off my backyard-----by placing a scale model floating dock and played with a R/C boat in my lake

Finally got the new antibiotic today. All this fight and bother for Ciprofloxacin, something I've already been using for some years now, and the insurance starts a fight over it like it's something new being added. That's crazy. At least I should be able to get a few things done tomorrow as I don't have to go anywhere. I have to pull the EGR valve on the car and put a little epoxy on the base of it so it'll seat right with the manifold. That would take about an hour and much of it can be done while sitting.

Currently 55°F under sunny skies here in the Beautiful Finger Lakes region of NYS. Today we are supposed to break the 60° mark for the fist time this year with a high of 61°F this afternoon. (I'm betting it will get higher by a couple degrees...) Spring is evidently here as my neighbor across the street was out raking his lawn yesterday. THAT also means Sn*w by next week....!

Good morning. It's 42 and sunny. The high will be in the mid 60's and it will be mostly sunny.I went to the Deer Creek hospital this morning to have blood drawn so they can see what the level of Vancomycin is in my blood at it's lowest point. I have to go in again 30 minutes after my morning Vancomycin dose is complete so they can draw more blood to see what the high level is. Leave it to doctors to make a lot of work out of something. I also have to go see my primary doctor this afternoon and it will give me a chance to see if the pharmacy has gotten the approval yet for my newest antibiotic. I wonder, is this a preview of the kind of mess we'll have to look forward to with 'Free health care for all'? It seems so funny sometimes. The docs tell me to stay off my feet yet they demand that I go get this done or run over and get that done then to go jump through a bunch of hoops. Sometimes I don't know if I'm a patient or a mouse running through a maze.
TMarshTomorrow is me birth anniversary and I'd like to work on the RR but I doubt that will happen at all.
I'll leave a donation jar on the RC for anybody wanting to chip-in to buy a card for the occasion.

Hey, we had another run last night...THAT brings the total number of calls for the Clarence Fire Dept. (1-3-1) to...4 so far this year. Around 0400, we get paged to "...a car smoking on the railroad tracks at 7th and Lombard." We roll, and yep...got a POS car, smoking a little bit, on the north side of the crossing, fouling the eastbound main. Those upset about the Detroit FD parking a ladder truck on the mains and being hit by AMTRAK will be pleased to know the Clarence Fire Dept. staged on the south side of the crossing, well clear of the tracks. I am presuming (I didn't hear the radio traffic) THAT dispatch notified the UP of our presence. Sheriff's deputy was there with his fancy SUV, hooked a chain to the car, drug it off the crossing. I thought it looked a little close to the rail yet, our DOT cop/firefighter agreed, he told the deputy to pull it farther. Pop the hood...belt slipped was burning off. We went home.
Gotta run, have to be in North Liberty by 10AM to interview the director of the NL food pantry, then to Solon to try and find out more on a drive to get stuff for a wounded soldier recovering at Walter Reed...then home to play newspaper guy as I try to hammer out these two articles and the one I was starting to write yesterday when we got the house fire.

Good morning all,Mike good to have you back. 60 today and snow on Monday, worked at the club layout doing scenery work while the other members ran trains. Nothing much to report other than the big train show is this weekend in Kirtland, OH.
Nighty night time, but I thought I'd check in first. Peeeee Yoooouu! What's that smell??? Oh, Bama's been workin' hard eh. Oh well, I've had my fair share of smelly days too.
I now have all the road bed laid for the lower half as far as the bench work I've built so far. The track is laid under the upper level that has not been applied and I need another sheet of glued together wood scraps for that. Tomorrow is Mom day and I have to work in the eve, so if there is enough time when I leave mom's and have to work I may pick up another sheet. We'll see. Tomorrow is me birth anniversary and I'd like to work on the RR but I doubt that will happen at all. Before I put the second level on I'd like to test the track. I've put feeders about every 6 feet so I should be alright as far as voltage drop goes.

I know you didn't ask my opinion, but I'm gonna give it to you anyway, might help/can't hurt. First, I'd start with having a chat with the Dean of the department. If THAT doesn't help, go on up the chain of command. Keep in mind, you'll have to prove your grade was lowered due to political differences... Having A's and B's on other assignments will help in side-by-side comparisons. As a former instructor and "Dean (Program Director, Regional Center for EMS Education at Kirkwood Community College)," I'll remind you of what I had to remind my EMT and Paramedic students of: saying "so and so doesn't like me" won't get you very far. Just beeeeotching won't work either. You'll have to have facts, hard and defensible facts. Also...how you present your case will make or break you. If you give 'em a martyr complex, the persecuted victim... "she's out to get me because she's a (fill-in poly-tick party of your choice) and I'm a (fill-in the other poly-tick party)..." Won't work.
Trust me. DON'T doubt me.
Be prepared to cite specific, exact instances where you two had a difference of opinion, with direct negative impact on your grade. Have any witnesses?
Above all, act professional and mature...whining won't get you anything but the door. As for talking to a lawyer...I hope you got the bucks, the meter starts running as soon as they pick up the phone! And again, unless you've got a strong (i.e.: the lawyer thinks he's got a good shot at winning), they'll probably give you a lot of the same advice.

Good evening, I've got a craving for...El Charito bean and cheese burritos...as made back in '87/'88!!! I LIVED off of them in my early college days, haven't seen them since. Of all the microwave, nuclear nightmare burritos...these were THE BEST!!!!!!
Welllllll, I started this several hours ago. Got called-out for a house fire a block over. Heavy damage to the attic and 2nd floor, mostly heat/smoke with some H2O on the first floor. I sucked down two air bottles, went back in later for extensive overhaul and a game of "hide and seek" with the fire. It tried to sneak up on us, flared up very impressively in fact... I got the nozzle and as I was blasting The Beast, I said "now, it's personal." Afterward, back at the station, the gentleman who's house it was stopped by to say "thank you." THAT's rare, at least in my experience. The Legion was having corned beef and cabbage, and sent 20 meals worth to the station for us...so we had us a post-fire dinner.
Now, It's ten 'o clock...I'm exhausted, I'm sore...and it still feels like I've got an air-pack on my back.
I'm going to bed...see you-all tomorrow, God willing and the river don't rise.

More or less started the demolition of the logging section on the SLOW today. removed one of the Torti operating one of the 2 stub end switches (turnouts) on THAT part of the pike. Checked to see where everything is held together and plan how to remove what needs to be removed to complete the project. There is a remote torti using a piece of code 100 rail to link to a turnout on the mainline I will have to relocate somehow.
Mike, good to see you back in the forum! Very sorry to hear about the stroke, but hopefully in time you will get some use of the affected limbs back. I'll keep you in my prayers!

I keep looking out my kitchen window and smiling when I see the empty driveway!!! After all these years the &@#% boat is finally gone! Tomorrow night the Committee of Troop 1 is going to discuss buying my equipment trailer... I'll be talking with their Commissioner tomorrow afternoon, and will probably show him the trailer then. Soon I may have more driveway space....YES!

So, the other day was Pi Day (as in the number, not the Diner's signature dessert). So there was extra credit for Algebra, and I made a pi hat. The teacher liked it, I think almost a little too much! lol She has a Pi obsession. She even played a Pi song. Good evening all! Just stopping in before heading off to the shower. My mom and Heather (oldest daughter) just left the house. My mom is off on her Spring Break (school bus driver), so she's taking Heather for the rest of the week. I'm not going to complain as it means one less person to have to get ready in the mornings.
Zoe, just a RBF for me, had a large dinner tonight, chicken leg quarters on the grill, scalloped taters, and mac and cheese. I'm a little stuffed for the moment. Might come back in here later and have something else.
Keith, going by the VIN information you gave me, the vehicle has a 305cid (5.0L) V-8. While the 305 isn't/wasn't the most powerful V-8 in the vehicle, considering its relative light weight, it should scoot. Again, if you need part numbers for anything lemme know. Also, just a little information for you. On everything but true internal engine parts (pistons, crankshaft, camshaft, etc) you can cheat and call the engine a 350 (5.7L) V-8 since the engines are actually the same block, intake, heads, etc, just with smaller pistons....(what can I say, I love to help people with/through my automotive knowledge).

Some of you have openly asked me how I can keep such a good attitude with all that's happening with my health. To tell you the truth I don't really know. It does take a heavy toll on me emotionally as well as physically. I try to keep that stress under control and away from those I love but it's hard sometimes. It helps to have an avenue to vent it through such as boards like this. I know you guys and gals don't read everything I post but that's not why I post. Just drafting the post gives me a chance to vent some of the frustration I feel at being able to do little or nothing to change things. In no way am I trying to unload my baggage on you. Rather it gives me a chance to go through and sort out what's important and focus on that. In this way I'm able to look at the brighter side and not focus on the negative so much. I thank you all for your patience in putting up with me. Just having someone to talk to, even just through a keyboard, is a big help.
Good evening folks: Peace and quiet has returned to our household now our daughter and #2 grandson plus surrogate gs have returned home. Not a bad visit,a nd this time no-one was screaming at anyone else. (#2 gs knows exactly which of #1 gs's buttons to push for maximum instant reaction - and does, far too frequently for his, or anyone else's good. Since #1 grandson wasn't here this trip, it was not so noisy.) The layout was however well used, which was a surprise and a pleasure.
