I have to agree with mykroft. My local hobby store (here in Canada) only had one HO CN diesel loco.
Now that I've bought it, I don't know how long it will be before they get another current loco in.
I could always order off the net though.

CN and CP! Canadian versions of six axle Century units, RS versions of GM switchers, late model MLW switchers, most common types of steam locos, etc. There are some US modelers out there looking for Canadian stuff too.

I liked the way Bachmann has taken various semi-standardized steam designs (USRA and Baldwin) and manufactured them in several variants; I think this was a great "halfway" approach to satisfying the need for sales volume while still providing customers with reasonably accurate models at decent prices.

Has anyone else noticed that just about all of the high-end die-cast locomotives now on the market are in Kalmbach's "Steam Locomotive Cyclopedia?"

I would like to see some of the Common Standard steam (especially the 57" drivered 2-8-0s that ran on SP & UP); perhaps the chassis and frames could somehow be adapted to make the MC-1 2-8-8-2s and the early cab-forwards.

And, if manfacturers were willing to incorporate slightly greater variety in model boilers, cabs and fittings, a generic set of 57"-drivered chassis could probably be sold as a range of locomotives, such as Grande little 1100s and 900s.

But if I could chose a single model with no generic applicability.....it would be a Colorado Midland Class 175!

Sunset is releasing a brass SP&S 700-(also NP class A3 and A4) with sound and lights
for about $600. As pricey as plastic sound equipped steam is (however nice!) this seems to be pretty reasonable. They are due around March. Yes, I have one on order.
However, regarding other road specific locomotives, I'd like to see:
GN S1 or S2 Northern-(2584 is in Havre,Montana-an S2)
NP Z6,7 or 8 Challenger-fleet second in size only to UP of these.
will also work for SP&S.
GN O1 Mikado-they had almost 140 of them.
A Baldwin 2-6-6-2T-especially the smaller ones
It would also be nice if Life-Like would do a GN specific GP20-they already make all
the parts needed.

yeah, it seems that if you like santa fe, you're stuck with a F-7 a and maybe b model. And if you like UP then your stuck with the ubiquitous gp-38 or gp-40. Kinda boring. hope to see some more access to some different models where I'm at!

A few more good ones........

A Grand Trunk Western U3b 4-8-4. C'mon, these brutes were beautiful. And they were very similar to CN's 4-8-4s, so they could be produced in both road names.

A C&O 4-8-4 Greenbriar. Now here's a loco that screams to be modeled! Big, powerful, good looking, you get ther message.

A Milwuakee Road 4-8-4, such as the 261. Another beautiful and powerful machine.

Cotton Belt 4-8-4, like the 819. IMO, one of the best looking 4-8-4s.

Reading T1 4-8-4. Unique brutes built from older 2-8-0s and 2-10-0s.

Spokane Portland & Seattle 4-8-4, like the 700.

With all these 4-8-4s, everyone could have a fleet of Northerns!

I'd like to see more CB&Q passenger units - specifically an EMC E5. BLI could do a superb job of modelling one of these if built to the same quality and standard as their other E-units, and there's never been an E5 in RTR plastic. 9001A is preserved at the Illinois RR Museum so there is a surviving example to measure before designing a model, which is always helpful. Given how willing model manufacturers seem to be to tool steamers that are road-specific, I'm amazed an E5 hasn't yet appeared - they could use the drivetrain, trucks and electrics from their existing Es to keep costs down.

N&W and C&O modelers of the '50s have it the best in HO.
I would personally like to see more Southern Pacific steam. A good AC-12 4-8-8-2, F5 2-10-2, or MT-4 4-8-2.

Most SP steam is Baldwin built, as is ATSF. Plus the roads both exist over alot of the same territory.

Anything Boston & Maine , part particularly a BLI QSI equiped 4-8-2 R1-d Mountain with centipede tender with red stripes and nice red and silver "Boston & Maine" speed lettering on the side.

Liddiard--you have just recieved my nomination for election as some sort of Roman Deity!!! Yes, I would like to see some Rio Grande steam that 1: isn't expensive brass and 2: narrow-gauge teapots. Oh, my, would I like to see Proto or BLI come out with one of those big F-81 2-10-2's, or better yet, a 1500 series 4-8-2 that--unlike the Custom Brass model that used to be available--could pull something more than just it's tender! Or maybe Spectrum could grace us with one of those beguiling, chunky little 1100 series 2-8-0's. I've got a lot of Rio Grande brass steam, and I love 'em all, but my, it would be nice to see BLI or Proto or someone come out with something nice and NOISY!

I voted for New York Central because I want to see P&LE steam in N. There are certain crimes that I might consider committing for a good running K-6 in N scale as well as an H-10 (do I dare dream about a vestibule cab H-10?) and an A-2a.

One 'generic' road locomotive that has been overlooked in N is a USRA heavy pacific with a larger tender. Many roads had copies of this (only the Erie had originals, they even had a class of copies as well), but with larger tenders.

N scale also needs a decent running and pulling steam switcher.

I voted for more cn/cp where's our BLI steamers the cn hudson was nice but it's price was prohibitive [xx(] it was $1000 cdn and mostly brass why did we get stiffed? some nice sound equiped 4-8-4's 4-6-4's and 2-8-0's in proper cdn attire and detail would be most welcome please BLI we don't need MTH making them or even though I want them they will stay on the shelf. cheers Rob

WHere's my plastic Royal Hudson 2816? or Bullet-Nosed Betty 6060 (The IHC hack job doesn't count). The Royal Hudson in particular is one of the most famous steam locomotives in the world today.

The only CN or CP specific diesels in plastic are the Atlas C-424/425 run and the P1K RS-10's and RS-18's.

I want some M420W's, HR412's and some FP7's & FP9's, and some CN steam, in plastic. I'd even shell out for the lone M640 in CP pacman.
