Lets try this again (Road specific locomotives pt 2)

Its odd that 2 of the most popular railraods, Santa Fe and Southern Pacific, have relatively few models out there. BLI brang out a GRAY 3751, and an AC-4/5. Rivarossi has that terrible version of the AC-11. And Bachmann is supposed to have a Spectrum GS-4 way in the future. Thats about it.

How do the awesome Espee and ATSF have only that many models while roads like UP get : BLI 4-8-2, BLI light 2-8-2, Lionel Veranda, Trix 4-8-8-4, Lionel 4-6-6-4, Rivarossi FEF-3, Rivarossi 4-6-6-4, Rivarossi 4-8-8-4.
Those N&W guys get a P2K 2-8-8-2, Rivarossi 2-8-8-2, Spectrum J, BLI J, and a BLI 2-6-6-4. Pennsylvania has a whole roster available: BLI T-1, BLI GG-1, Bowser I-1, Spectrum K-4, BLI J1, BLI 4-8-2, IHC GG-1, Bowser L-1, and BLI Antenna E7s, etc.

I'm not really pissed about it, I'm just saying if SP and/or SF are that popular, shouldn't there were a few more specific models out there? Can we get them out soon? The clock is ticking.


I want to see more SP and/or SF stuff. What road do you want to see more unique equipment from?

I'd like to see more Missouri Pacific and Illinois Central. What has been sadly lacking all along, too, is C&EI. I don't recall ever seeing a loco decorated for that road.

How about some New Haven Railroad specific Locomotive. I-5 4-6-4, I-1/2/3/4 Class 4-6-2's ALL the electrics in plastic. L-1 2-10-2's T-class 0-6-0's. Waht we need too are Alco S-1lowered cab roof cabs from Cannon & Co. and New Haven and Boston & Maine steam loco cabs with the rounded windows in plastic.

As far as "railroad specific" goes, how about :

a Davenport 44-tonner,

a TA set in Rocket scheme,

a SD40-2 in RI red and yellow,

a 4-8-4 R-67 (the CRIP had more Northerns than any other RR!),

a GP35 in maroon with striped nose (RI had 34 of them!),

and a E8A in red and yellow "Quad City Rocket" scheme,

for starters !!!

I still say (preparing to be flamed) we need a few more UP. We still don't have a 4-12-2, an FEF-2 and FEF-1, a 2-8-8-0 (the late single expansion version) a 4-8-0, a 3 Unit Turbine, an ALCO Century 855, or a DD35A or B. (or a GP9B, for that matter)

Ahh yes,,, I want Western Maryland oil fired Pacifics, H7, H8, And H9 Consolidateds, I-2 decapods, Chop nosed geeps with 1 piece windsheilds, and more!
True, P2k has been a friend to us WM modelers, with the high nosed geeps and the FA's, and the cabeese , but they owed us[}:)] since the first offering we got was the homely little BL2!![;)]

I'm sick of seeing nothing but UP and ATSF in every LHS, especially ATSF. There are other railroads! Walthers seems to release a diferent ATSF fleet every year. I want, no I need more B&O transition era steamers and diesels, and I want them now!!!!!

Though I voted CN/CP, C&O is always a welcome addition which seems to be getting more and more prominent. A C&O Greenbrier would look nice on my layout. barring that, CN Mikes, Northerns and Mountains with Elesco Feedwater heaters would definately get my attention.

Heck, SP and SF have tons of stuff available in plastic compared to CN or CP.

WHere's my plastic Royal Hudson 2816? or Bullet-Nosed Betty 6060 (The IHC hack job doesn't count). The Royal Hudson in particular is one of the most famous steam locomotives in the world today.

The only CN or CP specific diesels in plastic are the Atlas C-424/425 run and the P1K RS-10's and RS-18's.

I want some M420W's, HR412's and some FP7's & FP9's, and some CN steam, in plastic. I'd even shell out for the lone M640 in CP pacman.

I too am a fan of the Rock (although not nearly as much as I am a CB&Q fan!), and I would love to see a R-67 Northern made, as well as these Milwaukee Road and Burlington locomotives: (noticed that I'm a big fan of all of the Grangers yet?!)

M-4A "Colorado" (Q talk for a Texas 2-10-4 type)

O-1A Mikado 2-8-2

EMD E-5 diesel

Milwaukee Road:

Southern and L&N. A lot of their locomotives can be kitbashed pretty closely from what's now available, but the Southern Ps-4 heavy pacific and the L&N H-28 and 29 consolidations are a lot tougher.

Instead of making road-specific locomotives for a particular railroad, consider making models of specific locomotives from one of the major museum collections, like National Museum of Transport or the Illinois Railway Museum. That way, you'd get a range of different railroads, large and small.

Hey-Ho! I've recieve the answer to my modeling prayers, and its from BLI! they have an AT&SF 2-10-2 and 2-10-4 planned. I really hope they can make a locomotive that works as it should.

CP, specifically the Baldwin DRS44-1000. Not that I'm holding my breath since only 20 or so of them were ever built and 13 went to the CP. I guess it's what you'd call a niche market.

And it isn't that they haven't been done, its that they haven't been done in consumer grade. There are some pretty fantastic models of almost every thing out there in brass.

That is easy on two counts.
1. Other than SPs cab forwards and War Babies and Santa Fe's 3000 they didn't have a lot of super unique outstanding equipment.

The manufacturers can make a Big Boy which is unique to the Union Pacific and sell it to a lot of people. How many non-Santa Fe people would buy a Santa Fe 3400 class just by seeing it sitting on the self? I guess not many. Big Boys, NW Yb6s, and Js are impressive. Look at how many NYC & Penn. unique steamers they have produced that aren't selling nearly as well as the Challengers and Big Boys. I saw one of the NYCs on clearance for $144. Neither can they raise the price to produce more road specific, low volume, models because then they would be competing with brass.

Unfortunately they are doing the same thing with these as they did with the Northerns. Producing the small 3800 class, rather than the big brute 5000 class.

How about Broadway Limited doing a C.P. H1b Hudson after all there is one preserved and they could get their boffins to go and actually measure it to get it right rather than having to rely on drawings . I think it would be a seller, its been into the U.S. as well as a high proportion of Canada. PLS.

you just have to wonder, why hasn't any producer (save the much maligned Rivavrossi) taken on the Hiawatha? If a reasonably priced, well detailed version came out, say, with a DCC plug, (hint, proto heritage series) I think people would buy it, not just Milwaukee fans but of great streamlining!

I would like to see more D&RGW specific STEAM locos built, 4-8-2s, 2-8-0s, 4-8-4s (both the 1700s and the 1800s), and even some of the Grande monsters 2-8-8-2s and finally a Grande 4-6-6-4, not the UP nock off.
I could use more D&RGW SD40T-2s as well.
In the non loco department...some 01400 series D&RGW cabooses would be nice.
