Good evening... time for a night-cap RBF.

Lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng day. Long meeting with THAT as we divied-up duties for the North Liberty Community Guide. Nothing too tough, just time-consuming. MR. BOSS didn't seem too happy with THAT today, the joys of w**king for a husband-and-wife team!

Came home, got the mail, found a "love letter" from the IRS. They want "their share" of tax from a credit card debt setlement from '08! THAT's craptastic...absosmegging craptastic!!! If it ain't one thing, it's another. Just about the time it looks like we're actually making progress towards "breaking even" (I doubt Kit and I will ever "get ahead"), another crap sandwich hits. SoapBoxBanged Head

*sigh*

We'll figure something out...we always do.

ROBBY P: Yup, she saw them Veeee-Dubs, and loves 'em! Thanks again!

JIM: You may have a point about THAT toilet seat and Rerun... No, he probably would NOT put the seat down, which could lead to: a SPLASH!Shock, followed by a screamAngry, which in turn would be followed a few minutes later by an ICY STAREBlack Eye. Hmmmmm. Maybe I oughta cogitate on this. Of course, I've always told her, IF she has a "splash-down," it's technically HER FAULT for not looking before landing!!! Mischief

When we were planning the disaster THAT was our wedding day...we considered writing our own vows. I was going to vow and swear before God and man to 1) NEVER "fluff and stuff" her...and 2) to always put the seat down. She thought better of all THAT...and we recited the traditional vows while covered in a swarm of Japanese Beetles (outdoor wedding).

Back to the lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng day. I covered a "middle school lock-in" which consisted of 5th and 6th graders running wild and loose throughout parts of the building... THAT described it as, and I quote: "...a festival of chaos and hormones run amok." Yup. After an hour of THAT nonsense...I retreated to the local coffee-house. Wanted beer, badly,  very badly. But, I settled for coffee. Then, it was to an "all-school dance show" at the high school. Now, I'm NOT a prude...but what the dance teams were doing... kinda felt at times like they shoulda just put a pole up for 'em... If'n they was a bit older...we coulda tossed dollar bills at 'em. Incredible.

Too tired to edit/process pics tonight...I'll do it tomorrow, THAT will have 'em for layout on Monday.

And so it goes...

G'night,

ChrisEight Ball

Oh yeah...THAT locomotive with the school spirit, kinda neat. Solon has the Spartans as well. The Solon Fire Dept. has the school's Spartan head logo, inside a Maltese Cross, with "Spartan Firefighters" on their apparatus. Not quite as impressive as a complete locomotive though...

Evening all, just stopping in for the night.  A RBF for me, wasn't horribly hungry tonight.  Everyone at my house is asleep, Amy wasn't feeling too swift with queasiness, so she's crashed in our reliner.  Heather has followed her night routine of falling asleep while watching a movie after her bath.  Mikayla is asleep in her swing, but will probably be waking up shortly to eat.  So here's me up and at 'em!  Tomorrow is hopefully going to be a good day, mom and dad are supposed to come down and help me out with some projects around the house.  I've gotta be at w**k at 3:30, and Amy's got her scrapbooking small group from 3 til 8, so yeah, no one's going to be at the house all afternoon/night.  Oh well, its good to get some projects accomplished around the house.

Well, that's about it for me, I'm going to check on a few other things then I think that I'm going to be doing the same thing that Amy and everyone else is already doing, and that's sleeping!

(EDIT) and as it apppears, I've got the TOP, so y'all eat up!!!

Evenin', Chloe - I'll have a bowl of New England clam chowder (if it isn't frozen over like a lot of New England lately...), some oyster crackers, and a Santa Fe mug of hot chocolate, please. Thank you!

Hmm... I notice that our four-legged help isn't around anymore, and I happened to see that there are some new additions to the menu. (Shock Ohmigosh - surely not!) Whistling

Trainman Sam
EDIT: here's what the "Diner" looks like again... I am only going to paint the "stripes" and the signs for this thing.  Iwill be painting the whole thing with a "Stainless Steel" paint first, then the stripes, the plastic is too dark grey to pass for stainless steel...

Thanks for posting that, Sam - I recognize that kit (and Walthers' copy of it - "Miss Bettie's Diner"). I won't get onto a rant about how a certain distributor copies some manufacturers' kits and then comes out with their version of it (produced off-shore...SoapBox How DID this thing get under my feet? Stepping down now... Sam, I will warn you that those rounded corners look nice and unique, but are kinda tricky to assemble so as to have them come out right. Oops Don't ask how I know.

JR, now I recall those buildings. They turned out excellent, I'd say! Thumbs Up Is that your club layout, or your own?

Rob, I'd guess your sis might be willing to admit that, because probably liability suits may not make a big chunk of her cases (but I could be wrong on that, of course). Whistling

Ulrich, on your house thing, I'm going to ask on my Angel list (as DerJohn suggested) about those folks to change their mind, or someone else to see the house and go for it before the bank gets to foreclosing. Hate to see your MRR'ing have to go away (for any length of time!). Does your doctor have you on any medication for the panic attacks to ease them up (so they don't cause such havoc with your heart)? And great to hear about your son's excellent academic success! Bow

PC - they're in Sebring? Too bad you couldn't get some vacation time to go with them (and avoid what white stuff I think I heard your area has been getting). Nice shot of that diesel - NOT your average paint scheme, nosiree! Yeah!!

Chris - yeah, but if you got Rerun to actually use the toilet, would you be able to get him to put the seat down (to avoid problems with the CFO thinking it was YOU who neglected that detail)? Oops

Garry, that's one unique rotary plow there, all right! Thanks for posting that. Cool

Ray, as you hinted at in your post, when it sn*ws (and drifts) like that, best course is to drag more logs inside from outside of the door (if you can find them...) and just spend the day by the fireplace. Wow!! You all east of me are getting hammered with that white stuff!

Robby - hope some of those job fair leads wind up being good prospects for you. And good that you sold that hopper (and the next one, if you can get another Sasketchewan one). Thumbs Up

DerJohn, that was a bit breezy out your window the other day - bet you could hear it inside, as well! I like your 'winter diesel' shots, too, thanks!

We made it into the 40's (F) here today, and with the bright yellow thing shining in the sky, it felt warmer than it was. No precipitation for a couple of days, I think. Supposed to have some clouds over this weekend (and first part of next week), but no wet or fluffy stuff predicted. I'm grateful for that, even if we aren't as warm as Sebring or other place down toward Flip's place.

Got first part of my Walthers order in at w**k today - couple of dwarf signal kits (2-light, Oregon Supply) and a P2K Frisco gondola with that ductw**k load. Just what I need, eh, another kit to put together? Actually, I should start on some of those kits over the weekend in between any pages for on-call...

Well, I'd best get going so I get a good night's sleep. This week at w**k has been busy, I finally today got all but Thursday's paperw**k caught up. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were chock-full... Prayers for those digging out, those healing up and those in need of comfort (and all those should cover all of us in here).

Blessings,

Evenin' folks!

Flo just a cup of decafe to warm me up a bit.  I'll be at the Rivet Counter to see what being discussed over there.

I did a bit more w*rk on the Engine House today.  Cut out some of the side walls for the side work room and started on the floor for THAT.

Went out to the street and got my evening paper, the Finger Lakes Crimes, ah, Times earlier tonight and there on the front page ocupying more than half of the front page, was an article about one of my students from way back in the late 1980s!  Unlike so many other students, this article was not about him being given a long sentence.......  But rather something he has been doing for the past many years and its relevance to something in the news these days!  Marcus Goddard is the Associate Principle Trumpet player for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.  He has been involved in most of the recordings of music (including all the National Anthems) being played at the Winter Games!  Cool, huh?  More about Marcus here: http://www.vancouversymphony.ca/mu_musicians_bio.php?musiciancode=79  I knew he had gone on in music as a trumpet major, but had no idea what he was doing these days.  Graduated from Geneva High School in 1991.  He was a great kid in class!

Other than THAT, not much happening here other than watching a few little white things falling out of the sky from time to time.

Hope you all have a great evening!

Good Evening All,

If it's repainting I vote for the black and orange . It can be quite handsome don't you think?

The old layout wasn't all urban. This is the top of the nolix linking the upper and lower levels. New Haven GP-9 in the foreground working it's way out of the cut,

Another long day and more tomorrow. We're closing in on it though with one truck loaded and staged in the yard and the other ready to start loading tomorrow. If only all the cars were done.

Ended up with 6" or so of sn*w but thankfully not the winds some of you have had. It's coming down again so we'll see what tomorrow brings. J.R.

Sam: Thanks, ...and what about the "warm sand" I'm guessing is available from a steam loco's domes. Would it make a significant difference in icy conditions do you think?

Jeff:
The insulin I use is Lantus, the slow acting stuff. I usually take a fast acting glypizide tablet in the morning. I didn't this morning for obvious reasons.
I'm on Lantus, but the Diabetes Clinic a few months ago in conference with my GP started me on Apidra (the Solostar Pen) as a fast acting. It's that which is giving me the learning curve. I really like the Lantus, but it wasn't totally managing levels the way it did at first. Thought you might like to see what the view from our bathroom was late afternoon Friday. That’s about an hour before high tide. Wind due east at about 50 mph.  Bedtime again, so Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all in need of Healing, Comfort, Prosperity and Peace.Angel

Philip, that's one interesting loco man! That'd be a REALLY fun custom build from the paint job alone.

I didn't get any time today on the computer until now b/c of rugby, but WHATAGAME!!! We lost again, but I played better and had a lot more fun! made a high tackle on the first kickoff but after that kept them low and hard haha. I made up for that high tackle on the next kickoff though. I did have a great flying tackle as well. Our team overall played much more physical; just had mistakes that will be ironed out as we get more playing experience.

Evening ya'll

I've been busy with an essay I've been working on. I can safely say it is one of the toughest ones I have done. I had to write about a current events issue from BOTH sides, while remianing nuetral. Hard to be nuetral when you think the issue in question is a load of hogwash, and the next essay is where you take a side on the very same issue.  And hopefully that last essay will be the last one ever. (After this semester, no more general ed classes!!!!)

Ulrich, that bites, hopefully things work out. Good to hear about your son though.

PC, that's an intresting looking loco there

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

So we ended up with another 6" again this afternoon---we took the blower out and redid our's and the neighbour's driveway while he went and got the elderly people's homes done with his. To all those asking about the pic......

I'm not sure who owns the loco.  It was just parked there, same as it was a couple of weeks ago.  There's a bunch of autoracks always nearby, and a local spur that leads to a plant about a 1/4 mile off.  The tracks are owned by the White River Scenic Railway Co., but I don't think thats one of their loco's.  Coincidentally, the local high school team is named the Spartans, so I'm thinking that loco is locally owned, maybe by the company that always seems to have 20 or so autoracks around?  There's another loco there too, and older switcher, but it was too dark to get a good shot of it.  I might try again next week when I'm in the area.

Great paint job on that loco though, huh?

Jeff: That Seaboard car is nice and neglected looking! Thumbs Up Is mid 50's OK for painting outside? Just curious. Had a bit of a scare last night on my walk. Felt a bit "off" so I checked the blood sugars - 34.2 in your terms - not funny. Had had a good supper - larger than normal I thought, and fairly carefully eyeballed carbs. Dessert was heaping too. I guess I  over-estimated the amount of fast acting insulin I needed, with the walk accounting usually for the equivalent of one unit....The learning curve on this fast acting stuff I'm finding brutal.

Right now these old cars I'm doing are experiments to see what I can do and what I can improve on. A photo tells a lot more than eye-balling it. On the blood-sugar deal, I know just where you're coming from. I have times like that myself. I woke up with a level of 60 this morning and raided the fridge for a few little chocolate squares to get the level back up. The insulin I use is Lantus, the slow acting stuff. I usually take a fast acting glypizide tablet in the morning. I didn't this morning for obvious reasons.

the thought occurred "I wonder if the sand in the domes over a steam loco gets warmed enough to make a significant difference to the braking  performance, over against a diesel in the same conditions? (assuming sand application is allowed for braking, not just traction on grades)
by Barry BTW---I think the diner should be stainless steel----- Otherwise go green
Dark Green if I may refine a bit, and there has to be Cream in there somewhere - maybe not a lot, but it should be a statutory requirement Approve

To answer your question, we use sand during braking sometimes, (most of the time the computer automatically sands when it senses wheel slips...).  We have been taught to "sand" as we are coming into station stops during slippery conditions, so that when we apply traction leaving the station there will be better adhesion to the rail.

I have your "vote" for diner colors logged!  Yes, I am still collecting votes, I don't know what to paint this thing, with the exception of the Stainless Steel...

I am watching the US vs Fin Olimpic Hockey game...  USA 6 / Fin 0 at the end of the 1st period!!!

Shazbot! ( and for Flip's sake) I'd better not order the scrambled eggs then! LOL Maybe a hot chocolate; and if Chloe's still holding the whipped cream, I'll lighten her load some!  Just after getting through telling Flip that our woodstove has been burning continuously for weeks, we had to let it go out last night. The up to 56 mph winds in this current rain storm just suck all the heat up the chimney, and the draught eats logs at a senseless rate. So we are on the oil, and not happy campers, except that the vehicles are getting washed, and we won't have to shovel to get out.. A small bottle of white glue on my desk has been actually shaking on its own off and on for a while now!

Sam:

That happens when ice builds up on the wheels and/or brake shoes.  It is prevented by applying the brakes every few miles, to keep the shoes and wheel tread "warmed"!

Just a quick stop.  Sweet tea to go!!!

The job fair wasn't bad.  I found a few I will have to call about.  Maybe something will come about.

Went by the LHS and found the same hopper.   Seen a piece broken, but it was fixable (took it out and looked).  Got home and took it out, and it has about four broken pieces.  I guess I didn't look to good, huh Dunce.  I would take it back, but the one guy is VERY rude.  So either I will sell it cheap, or keep it.  Its a grain car, so maybe I can fit it into a mix of cars.

I will stop complaining about the cold x 100 . Should I print or write in script? Jeeze, guys.

Deb is back to her normal Irish/Indian temper. Had a set to with daughter. Should have asked her dr. for pills to have her sleep or something. Luckily I haven't crushed the eggshells I've been walking on.

Dropped into my LHS and had shell-shock. Prices are atrocious. Didn't buy anything but man, there are three boxcars would fit my FEC rr and an engine  also a Tropicana car. Man, if I can hit the lottery. lol

Herr Ulrich, we are all pulling for you. Congrats. to your son.

Prayers for all.

Flip

p.s. Oh good grief! T O P  My credit card is by the register, so enjoy. Heck, no wonder I don't have money for more rolling stock.                  lol

We have had about 4" here outside Pittsburgh. Just enough for the snow blower early this morning, and then a couple of minutes ago. I'll keep ahead of it this time around. This really is nothing compared to some of you other folks.

Ray, I was just thinking how pretty the view must be looking down on Seneca Lake from various points along Route 14. I love it in the other seasons, but I'm too old to challange the winter upper there, no matter what kind of enticements Glenora Inn & Winery send me.

Hello

Don't you just love this wind? We had about 6" fall last night from a "partly cloudy" and get knocked around by that wind. Not much wind but enough to drift things up and make for interesting driving---seems a lot of roads around here are closed or nearly so.Whistling

I ran around this morning getting a bunch of mailing and bill paying and other grocery buying and blah blah done----now I can sorta kinda rest before more running around is done---Big Smile

Chloe, I'll have a plate o' fries with mushroom gravy and a RBF please-----I'l be at the RC for a bitBig Smile

Does the SLOW have a plow???

Nah!  But then it is August 15, 1925 on the SLOW........Whistling

The wind has calmed down, but the Lake Effect generator is bringing a lot of flurries this way.  I will wait a while to fire up the blower.

I have just spent the last 4 hours snowblowing. I actually had to stop to refill the gas tank twice!! My street got about 26 inches of the stuff overnight. That does not count the 12+ I snowblowed last night beforehand. Unreal.

Mornin' Tim!  I guess you got all the "partly cloudy from both Barry and me.......Whistling  Winds from the North West! In Geneva the biggest problem is just the drifting snow.  It has created some interesting patterns like my kitchen window.

My dining room windows....  (Notice there is no snow at all on the roof of the house across the street.  There is a 4 foot drift on the sheltered part of my roof right over my doorway.....)

I will have to dig out the snow blower before I can put it to w*rk today.  It sits under the roof overhang!

There is about a 2 foot deep drift on the deck.  Notice there is a bare spot in the driveway behind the car. Shock  You can just see it through the rails of the deck.

I will be playing outside with the blower later today after everything has settled down a bit more.

Mornin...Coffee please...large bore needle...wide open drip. Actually...how about just a couple of spoons of grounds on my eggs. I have just spent the last 4 hours snowblowing. I actually had to stop to refill the gas tank twice!! My street got about 26 inches of the stuff overnight. That does not count the 12+ I snowblowed last night beforehand. Unreal. I will pop in later after I go out again and help the neighbors out. Tim

Ulrich ... Have faith in yourself. You can rebuild. Here is a tidebit of trivia that may inspire you. Col. Sanders started Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) after he was bankrupt at age 65.

 Hi again,

Zoe, I´ll have a mug of cafe au lait, and a slice of this delicious cheese cake, please!

Yup, Petra and I are really proud of our son - he graduated  "summa (c)um laude". I don´t think it will be long until I have to say "Herr Professor" to him... Big Smile, but, of course, he will always remain my "little one" - just because he is 2 inches shorter than me!

In Germany, although the debt is on the house, you are still held liable in person for this debt. There is no way out of it - unlike most countries in the world. That´s why the suicide rate is so high, when people are not able to pay the mortgage anymore. Well, I am not thinking of that, but it definitively means the end of all my dreams. Wish I just could come to the US and go into teaching, economics or German, or whatever...

At the moment I don´t see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Sorry for ranting...

TMarsh

Garry- I understand the fear of going into your home and finding someone else there. Takes the safe feeling away. Brenda, when she lived in Springfield, had her home broke into. Luckily they were gone when she returned, but the safe feeling was gone. I hope they regain the "trust" of their home. Sure glad no one was hurt. As if the tragedy of the other family isn't bad enough, the details are just horrible. I'm sure it isn't the right way to feel, but in this case, the sentence is a bit light. You're outhouse suggestion gives me an idea. Now to figure out how.....Mischief

Todd ... The murderer in this county actually was sentanced to 6 death penalties. I suppose they will only administer 1 of the 6. ... As for our family in Cincinnati, they got a dog that is half great dane and half pit bull. They also had an alarm system installed. Our grandaughters still have nightmares and fear the dark which did not bother them before. ..... Prayers continue for your situation. Let you family know we diners care for them.
