Just got back in the house from clearing the sidewalk and driveway of snow again. There's probably around 3" so far. That's a whole lot better than the 6 to 8" there were predicting by morning. The roads don't look all that great, of course, they didn't before this latest round of snow either. I hope to see plows and salt trucks soon, as the wife has a doctors appointment this morning at 10:00 am. I want to try and get her there as she has been having some health issues. There's also the possibility that the office will call and cancel, lots of places have been shutting down.

Took a look around the house after shoveling this morning, and WOW, there's going to be a lot of yard work this spring. Bushes and hedges are pretty much flattened or broken. The neighbors cable line is also laying in the street after pulling off the house. It had a lot of ice on it for some reason compared to the other wires. Oh well, "and this too shall pass."

Everyone have a good day and stay safe.

Good snowy morning.  Its cold, and yes snowing.  Calling for 3-6 inches, and thats on top of the 20+ last weekend!!

Well I guess the plan today is more basement time.  The wife called off, and the roads are a mess.  Maybe this morning I can go and clean/start some cars.  Oh JOY!!

Lee......I don't think the LHS has any pallets.  I have some small pieces of wood from past buildings I can try and make some.  Maybe if it doesn't snow this weekend (which they are calling for it), then I can see what other LHS might have.

...... not too many people say they like Jerry’s caboose on the internet.

Shock Whoa, that's a fine thing to hear as soon as I walk through the door. I won't ask. Laugh

Good Morning. Two eggs over medium, hash browns , sausage patties and biscuits with Gooseberry jelly please and coffee too thank you.

Today, I must take Mother to the Physician. A follow up from the last, "your doing pretty good" visit. The roads around here are pretty good so I shouldn't have any trouble getting around.

We are much better off than many. Much better off. Angel Some magnet head has run over the stop sign on the corner here. How? I don't know. Happened yesterday. Didn't know the roads were slick I suppose.

Aztec- I sure hope you guys don't get the ice. I'd personally rather have snow than ice. Ice makes for the aforementioned road conditions and downed power lines and Todd's like electricity. Keeps fan in furnace going and the sump pump pumping. Things me like.

Ulrich- Congrats on the diploma!! Maybe you can rest some now. You think Petra will make us a cake so we can celebrate?

What's THAT!! Village snow plow!!! The road didn't even need plowed! THAT'S IT! They're just going around plowing peoples drives shut after they think they've gone to work. Ohhhhh, those rascals. They've got one coming. Gotta think on this for a while. Angry

Jeff- You best get to feeling better so you can really get cleaning on the layout. It's starting to show in your pictures. That latest layout shot you're using for your avatar has some sort of hairy growth showing up in the picture. Laugh

Have a Great Day!!!

Good morning. It's 28 here with some passing clouds. The high will be about 50 and it will be partly cloudy.

Have to check this morning to see if my two remaining prescriptions have finally come in. If they haven't I'm gonna be building a fire under someones butt and lighting it off with gasoline and a flare. Other than that there's not much happening today. The Home Health nurse will be coming later to reattach my wound vacuum. Oh joy. NOT! Hopefully soon I'll be able to get back to doing some serious layout work, like cleaning it. The track is OK, but something has got to be done about the dust on the scenery. I can only reach a small portion of it. Until I can get underneath to the access holes the rest will have to wait.

Robby, I think my set of pallets came from Life-like, 100 pallets for $3 or something like that.

JR, I found a “water resistant” HD starter for $210 and a “water proof” solenoid for $26 at the local 4 wheel drive place for my 7.3L.  The shop replaced one of two batteries for me and they cleaned and put the red sealant on all four posts and clamps last time it was in the shop. My F-250HD only has 106,500 miles on it; I can’t believe I’m having issues.

Jeff, I use a static duster I found they work well, for the tough weathering, I mean dust I’ll also use a over-sized model paint brush to loosen it up.

Lee,  "Keith, I worry about you; not too many people say they like Jerry’s caboose on the internet.'

Well, for one I miss Jerry's weather report.  I miss Jerry as any other frequent patron of the Diner. I'd love to tell you guys about my weather... but I came to the conclusion you guys don't need to hear about Socal weather.. cuz.. like today.. sunrise is 40 degrees with a high today of 65 degrees.  By nightfall, don't be caught without a jacket.

As far as cabooses go~  I like em all.  I don't care what line.. what ever.. if its something I don't have.. and I think its unusual.. I want it.  I really don't want what everyone has, and if you came by and visited.. I'd probably give you a guided tour of every RR car I have..with a story behind it.  I must admit,  I've never seen a small caboose like that.. well at least not in N scale.  But today I will check, take a photo or two.. and we'll see how if I do have one like it.

As for me today~  I shall do some reading .. again.  I have read more books and articles that I have ever in my college years.  Its information over-load.  I've also been looking for some of my books.. of layout plans.. because I think I saw a VERY nice shelft layout .. perhaps for Ulrich to take a look at.

Keith - in my neighborhood, the appropriate clothing looks like this:

... and the best form of transport is this:

Your 65 F translate into 18 C over here - we don´t expect this to come before May!

Forecast for tomorrow: Low 14 F, High 20 F!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a slice of the

Sir Madog

That Ulrich brought in this morning.  Oh and a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug to wash it down, of course.

Ah yes!  Another terrible Winter storm completely fizzles out here in the Finger Lakes!  We managed to get around half an inch over night.  Just enogh to make a nce fresh clean look outside, nothing more.  Today should be ?????  All depends on which map and prediction at the National Weather Service you look at.  Maybe somewhere between  0" and 6" of the stuff.  Since my Snowblower is all gassed up and ready to go, I would bet closer to the 0".  We are right at the edge of the snow and it keeps shifting around so who knows what will happen.

I have to get a couple prescription refills this afternoon, but the rest of the day is unencumbered.

Ulrich, congrats on your graduating with honors from the Gulag.....Smile,Wink, & GrinLaugh  I know you are glad to get THAT over with!  Hope you get rested up and can start to make some plans for your future.

Jeffrey the new photo of you looks a lot like my BIL........  Scary!  Don't think I have a photo of him from back when he had a beard.  I'll have to look.

Later!

Funny thing - first time I see a pic of you, Jeff, and you look the way I pictured you would! Don´t let Ray Kid you!

Hmmh, come to thing of it, maybe I should grow a beard, now that my hair "on top" is "receding", to say the best ... Smile

Yes Ulrich, by all means you should have a beard. It's a well known fact here in the U.S. that you can locate a train store or show by following the groups of bearded old guys to where they congregate.Confused

Mornin, an irish ta-go please Zoe.

Thought I'd drop a loke off for all you teachers n grandparents out there.

The Cowboy Boots

The Cowboy Boots (Anyone who has ever dressed a child will love this one!)
Did you hear about the Texas teacher who was helping one of her kindergarten students put on his cowboy boots?
He asked for help and she could see why..
Even with her pulling and him pushing, the little boots still didn't want to go on. By the time they got the second boot on, she had worked up a sweat.
She almost cried when the little boy said, 'Teacher, they're on the wrong feet.' She looked, and sure enough, they were. It wasn't any easier pulling the boots off than it was putting them on. She managed to keep her cool as together they worked to get the boots back on, this time on the right feet...
He then announced, 'These aren't my boots.'
She bit her tongue rather than get right in his face and scream, 'Why didn't you say so?' like she wanted to.

Once again, she struggled to help him pull the ill-fitting boots off his little feet. No sooner had they gotten the boots off when he said, 'They're my brother's boots. My mom made me wear 'em.'
Now she didn't know if she should laugh or cry. But, she mustered up what grace and courage she had left to wrestle the boots on his feet again.
Helping him into his coat, she asked, 'Now, where are your mittens?'
He said, 'I stuffed 'em in the toes of my boots.'

She will be eligible for parole in three years!

Ulrich... on the flip side, the weather here gets very hot.  When I was a boy, school would be let out if the temp. got above 102 degrees.  Any higher your skin feels like its on fire.. or burning.  At 113 degrees.. working.. you would have to drink a gallon of water.. just to continue working.. the next hour, or get a heat stroke... not a sun stroke.. but a heat stroke.

I see the huskies in the pic ... right now my husky is outside.  Everymorning I take her out.  This type of dog can only handle the heat if she has a chance to cool off.  During mid summer.. she's out on the front lawn.. in shade tied up.  She's a people watcher, and loves to just keep watch out front.

Just a quick stop.  We are currently under a "blizzard warning".  Just light snow right now.

Inch.......My wife is a kindergarten teacher, and she thought that was very very funny.  I asked if kids really do that, and she said "yes".  AND "as adults you don't think to ask".  Big Smile

I'll have one of those bread bowl with corn chowder thingees and some hot tea please. Yes Jeff, an imposing picture it is. Hope the leg/foot thing is still improving for you.

Lee - did they load test both batteries? I had to ditch both on my Excursion because the second would drag the first replaced one down enough to make it turn over slowly. Just got that back from having a sooted up pressure tube repaired and the exhaust pressure sensor replaced (ouch). We're over 165,000 now with little beyond regular up keep. The 7.3 diesel just keeps truckin along.

Spent the morning going over the turbo toilet with the owners mech who will help do the w.rk on it here. The turbo toilet is the ex Bob Sharp Racing twin turbo V-8 280zx we ran in IMSA back in the day (80's). It's a tube frame one-off and the only recognizable panel is the roof. It hasn't been run in years so we'll have to have much of it apart to check over - at 1000hp you don't want to take chances. http://alex62.typepad.com/imsablog/2008/02/bob-sharp-racin.html has some info if you're interested. Hey ya'll

Taking my break between classes. My have went smoothly so I jsut have to sit through another hour and a half of lectures and I can go home. I'll probably replace my tank on monday snice I can get some help and I don't really need to go anywhere on tuesday if I don't finish.

But yet again murphy struck, I think one of the bolts for my shifter is loose so the top part of the stick "bends" when I shift.... yay, more stuff...

JR, I though about it, but I don't know where or what the previous owner did with it and I used it to get a "core charge." Despite the fact that it isn't too hard to swap out, I hope it doesn't go out and I won't have to use the warranty any time soon. My guess is he used it for off-roading and lived on a gravel road. I still have some fairly sizeable dents in the hardest to reach places (front of door and below the trin line on the passenger side) and the sides look like a relief map of the rockies. I'm still sanding and bondoing the thing...

Jeff, are you buying the cheap valu-craft starters? Those things don't last very long, the one that was in my car was fairly new, but it busted...

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Keith - even in really hot summers, temps never exceed the 2-digit range (in Fahrenheit) here. But remember, Hamburg is at the latitude, where Alaska starts - and that´s some miles north of your place. Big Smile

Ulrich, if you are that high up on latitude,  I can only imagine the summers, of the sun setting around 10:30 or so..  rising a little after 4 am.  I've only seen that once.. and I was in Alaska.  Alaska was something if you've never been there.  I saw eagles everywhere.. every day.  The formula for converting temps.. I believe is 9/5th's times Centigrade (Celsius scale) but I'm not too sure.  Then again.. I remember back when you some of you guys said no use for math.  My son said that too...  I said.. in so many words.. "You see that gold nugget I paid 125 dollars when gold was 585 and ounce.  Gold is now at $955 dollars and ounce."  "How much is that nugget worth @ $955 an ounce."   If there was ever one thing I remember concerning math.. its got to be the 'unknown quantity of X'.

Keith - IIRC, the conversion is something like temp in F minus 32, divided by 9 and then multiplied by 5. I used an internet conversion table Big Smile

Yup, end of June, the sun sets at about 10.30 pm here - only to rise at 3.30 am again. Compensates a little for the "dark" days during winter.

Rice & beans, please.

Another thing my wife wants to find for her HO layout (along with a go cart, a tot on a tricycle, and a tot riding a tiny bicycle) is a few grocery carts. Anyone know of any of these being available?

Had my first full blow immunopathology/herxing last night. Yikes, that was kinda spooky, but is the start of my immune system being brought back online, so to speak. Interesting!

Well, waiting on the hay delivery. Hope to make it baback into the train room tonight.

Have a great day y'all. Cowboy Rob

*cough cough sniffle snort gasp wheeeeeeeeeze cough cough*

Good....*hack!* afternoon... Chloe? A bucket of Ed's OJ, a plate of oranges, a bucket of chicken soup...and a gun if all THAT doesn't knock-out this brackin'-frackin' pestilance!!!!!

Geez, thanks to a number of you guys, I've had to pick my lung up off the Diner floor, wash it off in the kitchen sink (Chloe was less than impressed), and stick it back into my chest. Why oh why do you guys have to be so blasted funny when laughing is Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health????

ULRICH: Welp, congrats on your official release from Das Gulag. Yeah, I'd hang the diploma in THAT room too... never know when you may run out of the "standard issue" paper, and need a substitute pronto! As a roomate in college once said: "I hate getting caught short in critical situations." This AFTER he did get "caught short." We were all under strict orders to go out the next day and obtain no less than 4 rolls per man (5 of us at the time).

Ah the things we hang in... "the room." In my bachelor days, I had a picture I took of a presidential candidate, who won, framed and hung so THAT whilst sitting upon the thunder mug, I could look upon said President. Worked like a charm, better than Ex-Lax. No...I won't say which president it was.

Going with N-sane scale makes sense for the space you've got, ULRICH, and the operations you desire. It makes sense for me for what-all I wanna do. But, I figure you've either got: a) better eyesight, b) more patience, c) better tiny-stuff dexterity, or d) all of the above; than I do. N-sane scale for me would be...a disaster of epic proportions.

Speaking of N-sane scale, hey SAWYER: I forgot to say how much I like THAT scratchbuilt warehouse!Thumbs Up THAT's the kind of industry I'm talkin' 'bout: multiple tracks/multiple spots...keep a guy with a switcher busy for a spell.

Speaking of structures. ROBBY P: I keep forgetting to comment on your pallet shop... very nice, Sir! With the pallets themselves, I can see your finesse for weathering coming in handy. I'm seeing new pallets, "repaired pallets," and pallets waiting for repair/reclaim. Maybe a container dumpster with scrap wood, piles of sawdust, stacks of new lumber... could be a detailing field-day. How are ya at weathered wood effects??? I've got a small pack of pallets in my next Walther's order...need some stacked up outside the ex-RI roundhouse. They'll get "run through the mill" when I finally place said order in a few months.

JEFF: I thought THAT was a shot of Red Green in your avatar-thing at first. And, I'm a little surprised at you, especially being a FD safety officer and all... Don't you remember? NFPA standards for controlled burns state you can't use gasoline...too volitile. However, some good old No. 2 diesel is just fine. Should work wonders under the butts of certain sluggish pharmacists, receptionists, medicos, etc.!

TODD: So you've got the Villiage snow plow closing up driveways 'eh? I think they train 'em to do THAT. Around here, the City of Clarence goofball is driving around in the plow truck...nothing left to plow though, he's just running the plow to look like he's doing something. Oh, wait, he's got the truck with the sand spreader on it. Ooooooh, wow. He just put down a handful of sand at the intersection of 8th Ave. and Ball St. Yep... a handful. Wow.

Nothing planned for today other than I was going to try to get at least 2 of 3 articles written for THAT... may just crawl into the isolation zone and pass out for a few hours. I've got a sad Rerun, he really really really wants Daddy to play with him. He grabs one of his hedgehogs, and I then have to chase him around the house, Reruns live for moments like THAT. But...I feel like crap.

I think a nap is in order...maybe write those articles for THAT later...

Have a good, SAFE rest of the day,

JR, I replaced one 3yo battery and kept the 1yo battery and replaced the alternator in January. The shop checked everything with a meter and its ok, and then they checked it two weeks after the install to make sure the older battery wasn’t draining the new battery.   I just ordered a new starter and new fender mounted solenoid with harness, both parts are from an off road specialty shop and designed for muddy/wet environments.  $255.99 for the parts, shipping, and tax; should arrive at the shop Tuesday or Wednesday.  The shop I go to quoted me $80 to install everything, I don’t think that’s too bad since the solenoid has all the wires for the starter already permanently hardwired and booted.  The dealership wanted $350 just for the starter and said that I was wasting my time to replace the solenoid.  The dealership wanted $95 to trouble shoot the truck then an additional $85/hr to make repairs.

Rob, follow that link I gave you this morning, they have it all.  They even have shoppers with carts and baskets.

Chris.......Since you said something about a "dumpster" I thought about making one.  So its in the basement right now, well the first steps of one.  I didn't think about other pieces of wood, sawdust etc.....As far as the weathering of wood. I do it a cheap way.  Rust powders!!!  I have a few dark colors and I just use a paint brush and spread the powder on.  Then I would take a "makeup sponge" and rub it down on the wood.  That kinda smooths it out (powders), and picks up the loose.

Hey, I've got an article from the August, '82 RMC with plans for a small one and a large roll-off unit. IF the Wife survives the trip home this evening, maybe I can ask/beg her to hook up her in-storage scanner to my 'pooter; and ultimately I could scan it for ya. Lottsa "if's," but THATs life with the Wife... heh heh heh.

Better yet, maybe I can get her to scan it/.pdf-ize it...probably quicker than if I was to fight my way through it.

I really need to go take THAT nap... maybe another dose of RAY's theorum of cold/flu treatment... sans coffee... hee hee.

Afternoon folks!

Flo, I'll have a RBF to celebrate!

You see, Spring is officially here in The Finger Lakes with the appearance of the first sure sign of spring.  As I was leaving Tops Market here in Geneva this afternoon I saw it.  The first one to arrive this year.  The LOONY BIRD!!!!  Now I always make it a practice to play "Spot the Loony" any time I am out and about...  But today I saw one right in front of my eyes!  Now the Temperature was 27°F with a 13 MPH breeze giving the area a wind chill of 16°F  and snow flurries coming down somewhat sideways in the afore mentioned breeze.  Now this was not one of those Middle School kids trying to be "All grown up and manly" nor was it one of tha brothas downtown who always dress in style....  This was a full grown man who appeared to be in his early 40s happily walking into Tops to buy Milk 'n' Bread probably because of the panic going on (we have college kids around here from warmer climes) due to the possibility of getting another half inch of snow or so tonight.....  Anyway, he is the first spotted Loony Bird of Spring being casually dresses in Burmuda shorts!  Now in his defense he did have a light windbreaker open over his shoulders........ Whistling  So Spring is Officially here!  YES!!!

Ah, now that I have arrived home, put away the groceries (yes I did buy milk and bread but only because I was out of both...) and gotten back on line, the sn*w has once again stopped.

Ah the Mailman Lady has just arrived so it is time to see if she brought me any Fee-mail today.

Later!
