Good evening all.  Flo, I'll have the country fried steak, mashed taters with gravy, corn, and a biscuit please ma'am.  Oh yeah, and a sweet tea to wash it all down.  Yes ma'am, I'll stay at the RC and wait for it.

Nothing happening in my neck of the woods, its been a warmer, although rainy and dreary day today.  Rain is supposed to clear out later tonight.  I'm currently in an empty house, Amy and the girls are at her mom's house and I've yet to hear from them on when they'll be back home, which is okay for right now since I'm enjoying the relative peace and quiet.

Vincent glad to hear that you got the o-rings for the injectors, hope that you are able to get her going "properly" again.

Well, thats about it from my neck of the woods, I'm going to hang out around here and see what comes up, if'n y'all need me, just holler.

Jeff- I thought you would. Next to being a terrific modeler, you are one HECK of a MAN. Get well kid. Enjoy seeing your work.

Heck, I'm yawning. Shower and beddy-time. Yeah, don't laugh. Wait till you get my age  and put in the hours and PUT UP with stupidity. No, not going there. To close to bedtime.  Wish you all enough and Gods Blessings.

Yep. It was so well-known and identified with Minnesota that the St. Paul Pioneer Press named the bear as a runner-up on its list of "150 Influential Minnesotans of the Past 150 Years" in 2000.

Good Evening All,

Knocked off in the basement when the framing gun went belly up. I'll take it to the shop tomorrow and see if I can fix it.I've got the CFO's exercize room about half framed so I made some progress. Also dropped into the LHS and picked up some KD's and metal wheel sets to so some fixin' on the freight cars for the after school group.

I see Krump dropped in. Hope he stops back for a cup and an update. Been quite a while since he last visited

Tom - any stripper that would attack solder would need to be acidic. I don't think any of the alkali or glycol based strippers are powerful enough to erode solder joints. That must be some nasty paint they used. You could try commercial aircraft or fibreglass stripper as you can't erode either of those when you strip the paint. I do remember some commercial strength akali strippers (whatever redi-stripp used) would eat aluminum though.

Ulrich - Just because you have to live within your means shouldn't mean you must give up all your dreams and pursuits. I like the smaller revised plan as well as the larger room sized one. An advantage with your waterfront layout is it should be readily expandable should your circumstances change (and we all pray they do). Are you going to try to handlay all the track or will you use one of the regular brands? I haven't seen any hand laid N scale track is it difficult?

Ray - I shouldn't laugh at your logging bridge. We have similar bridges on both the HO and O gage layouts at the museum. The HO suggests that the main line past a yard has a branch heading off layout and the O is an extention of the overhead trolley line the other end of which goes into a tunnel. We have an automatic reverser that shuttles the car back and forth as part of the action.

Jeff - great that you're healing faster than expected. Hope you can get back to your layout soon.

I'll hang out for a bit while I finish my wine and chocolate then it's off to get some sleep. Lots to try to do tomorrow.  Cheers, J.R.

Evening all from FoggyCal, awaiting the first of several Pineapple/Alaskan expresses:

GMT/Packer:  Thanks for the comments on paint strippers.  But guess what?  I forgot to read one little instruction on the Jasco:  "SHAKE WELL BEFORE USING."   I mean, talk about a DUH!! moment! Confused

Anyhow, I'll get started on the little lady tomorrow.  And the stripper is not acidic, thank God, so it shouldn't effect the solder.  I'll try it on a 'broad' surface before getting into the details.

But if you guys are interested, this is what I have to do:

She's a little cutie, but as you can see, I've got to take off what looks like house-paint all over her.  I think I've got my work cut out for me for the next week, LOL!

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Todd & Jerry ..... Yes, I recall Hamm's advertisments. I used to see their cartoon commercials watching the Cubs games when I grew up in Chicago area. Jack Brickhouse announced the play-by-plays while Ernie Banks slammed his home runs over the vines in Wrigley Field.

Krump .... good to see you again !!!

Ulrich .... That's a neat looking loco.

Cal Tom ... have fun with that brass loco. I bet you can make it look the way it should.

We were at a wedding today. Next to days will be really busy.

Happy Model Railraoding.

 Good Morning Everyone,

well, is it really a good morning? I just heard in the radio, that one of our competent politician has the idea of introducing forced labor to the jobless people, because he thinks we don´t want to work!

We already had that before, some 70 years ago, when that Austrian with the strange mustache ruled the world ... Sad

Folks, it is getting time to pack up and go - Germany is not my country anymore. From forced labor to forced labor camps to - we all know, what happened back then,  are only little steps.  I am worried. But where to go to?

Flo, just a coffee, please, I don´t feel like eatin´ anything.

Chris - I am glad you like my layout idea. Over the time, I have developed ideas for a number of different shelf layouts, which I can mail to you. Or if, you like, you can provide me with your givens and druthers, so I can develop a track plan according to that. Just give me a word ...

I am out for the moment - I have to collect my thoughts. Don´t know whether I just should be embarrassed or to start to fear for my life.

Good morning.  Kinda hard to sleep in when animals are running all over the house.

Thanks for the tips on the windows.   I was thinking about doing the windows like Barry said.  Heck Sawyers sound good also.

Not much planned today.  Its only 7:00am and the wife is talking about going shopping again.  Do I go or not is the question!!

On a funny/sad note (either way you take it).................A drunk driver (lady) took a wrong turn and drove 60ft over a trestle yesterday.  She said "she didn't know which way to go, and thought it was a road".  Of course she got stuck half way over.   I don't understand how you wouldn't know you were on a trestle???

  Hope everybodyhas a good morning.

Seems like I have "top honors".    EAT UP!!!!!!!!!!!  No pie throwing!!!!  Well as long as its not: pecan, cherry, apple, pumpkin.  The rest can!!

Good morning. It's 46 and cloudy. The high will be in the high 50's  and it will be partly cloudy. There's a 20% chance of rain this morning.

Yesterdays rains left the area wet and muddy. Hopefully today we'll have a chance to dry out a bit. Nothing special going on today so maybe I'll get a chance to clear off part of the layout. It's starting to look more like a desk with the stacks of papers from the assorted doctors and pharmacies they came from. There are also assorted tools, small paint cans, several rolls of tape, a couple of tubes of glue and assorted pieces left over from some recent projects. It doesn't take much to make a mess.

Good morning all,

Krump, welcome back.

Still working in the main yard on the layout.  I did get all my decoders tweeked and running very well with the SPROG.  I'm considering taking the roundhouse area off the layout and completly rebuilding it.

Good morning All,

A regular and a coffee roll please.

In the shop this morning to tangle with the pneumatic nailer. Turns out that a 3/8" dia seal cracked and stopped all 8lbs of nailer dead in it's tracks. All I need now is the trigger seal kit and I'm good to go again. Of course all the shops that would carry the trigger kit are closed today save one so all my hopes are pinned on the local Lowes. Wish us luck.

Tom - thanks for sharing the pics - you're very right that is a real cutie. If the stripper thins thepaint enough and turns it chalky you might be able to call it very weathered, declare victory and go homeWhistling. They never owned any articulateds on the New Haven (that I have been trying to model) but did test one for use on the Maybrook Line and stuck with the smaller stuff which they felt better suited the confines of New England. Since I also am modeling a museum of some sort, i suppose I could add one of the N&W class A's for display (then of course I'd also need to give equal time to SP with a cab forward....).

Well, no kits for the pneumatic trigger in stock so it's time for plan B.  Catch ya'll later. J.R.

Mornin' ...... er.... Afternoon everyone!  Well it was still morning when I was going to post, but I decided I needed to get my laundry started before....

Zoe, whatcha got good for lunch?  Ok, I'll have the Hot Roast Beef Sandwich and Fries with gravy to go along with a cup of dark roast in a FGLK Mug if you please.  I'll be in the back booth by the stove.

I have about half of the Art and Poetry Certificates done so far.  Waiting on a couple spelling checks on names right now.  I'll have to spend time on the layout waiting for the washer to get done........ Whistling

Did get to "play" with the "Bridge to Nowhere" for a bit last night and now have ties laid on the structure.  Photos will be updated later today in the WPF. '

J.R.  Hope plan "B" is fun!

Afternoon ya'll, RBF for me

Now that my car is runnning as it should, I started prepping my car for paint by sanding the "rough" spots and spraying primer over any bar metal (mainly on the rear fenders from hammering them so the rear tires would fit). Tomorrow I'm going to bring the slide hammer and bondo out to get the body smooth. There is a dent on the front bumper cover and I'm not sure how one would get that out since it's a plastic part. I can push it back out from the inside, but it pops right back in. Maybe run some hot water over it or use a hairdryer?

I just now noticed that atlas has 1978 fairmonts in both the sedan and wagon versions. I'd like to fill up a few open or plated-side autoracks with them, but they get kind of pricy. I've though of buying a few unpainted versions of each, then making molds of them so I can cast them in resin. Anyone have one they can dis-assemble so I can see how they go together? Secondly, how would one cast the windshields? I have testors clear parts cement and window maker that may work, but if a cast could be made clear that'd be great.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

*Walks in whistling the "Hamms" song...for some reason....*

Good afternoon everybody, double cheeseburger basket with a Coke if ya please Flo... thankya.

ULRICH: The trouble with your "competent" politician, is THAT he, she, or it is using an all or none solution. We've got people gaming the system over here...you probably do there as well. Yes, something needs to be done about THEM...but not to the sorrow of those who truly NEED some help. Sounds like an idiot to me...but then I'd be pretty hard-pressed to find a politician, of any party, THAT isn't an idiot in my book anymore. A politician's #1 problem: how to get elected. #2 (way down the list) your problems. A politician's #1 problem once elected: how to stay in office. #2 (way down the list) your problems.

Thanks for the offer of your track planning services. Part of me wants to hold-out for the room-filling National Docks Ry (flipped and rotated), which would give me the Quaker Oats complex, "city" yard, CCP yard, Loftus Distributing (lumber), Jerabek Wholesaler (beer), and a Cargill facility. I don't have to build it all next week... but I'd like to have it by the time I retire...which, at current projections will be in about 60 years (when I turn 100).

Then again, I look at THAT shelf layout, which would allow me to replicate the switch jobs working Quaker Oats. I could sell-off a lot of the other stuff I've accumulated to finance it...and maybe have it built in a couple of years. Then again, it would ONLY allow me to replicate the switch jobs working Quaker Oats.

I think THAT would get old fast.

But again...I don't have to have it built by next week either.

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, I'm not sure what to do about it all.

Heck, I could also go into the basement which at this point is only good for holding up the house... dump a bunch of time and money into it (waterproofing, studs/drywall, flooring, lighting, etc., etc., etc.) and have a basement-filling empire winding its way through several odd-sized rooms.

Now if I could get ahold of an insulated, heated, air-conditioned shed... where I could have the nine arterial avenues crossing the tracks between the Quaker area and Jerabek's and Loftus, I could have the old Iowa Steel and Iron works....plus the few more blocks to the south passing the former Wilson Foods (Farmstead) plant and RESCAR facility before hitting the Cargill plant.... About an 80 foot long building would do nicely...if 60' = an HO mile...welp, I could get by with a 60' space, I guess.

Why did I ever get into this hobby?????????

The trouble is...I want to model a specific area, in a specific era...and I do NOT have the space, nor resources to really do so. Tony Koester can "LDE" this all he wants...it just don't work here. I've been accumulating cars and locomotives for 22 years with the idea of modeling this specific place...the era keeps shifting from "today" to "yesterday" to "20 years ago." It was really neat...I'd skip-out of class early and take a daily hike around Cedar Lake, check out the CR to Manchester train building in the CCP yard, walk along the CNW North Yard and watch jobs 23 and 24 go to work pulling the TOFC tracks, assembling a drag for Cargill, going to work Quaker. It was literally "see it today, go home and build it." Now I find so much that I never took a picture of ...but SHOULD have.

So...all in all, is my predicament...

Stubbornness?

A failure to face reality?

Or insanity?

ULRICH: Maybe sometime in the near future I'll send you some "givens and druthers," room dimensions, and background info on the area. Of course, I'd expect to compensate you somehow for your time...so will need some time to build-up the coffers a little.

JERRY: Love that billboard! While I can't say I've ever tasted that brew...I sure remember the song and the bear. I did a web search, Miller was selling Hamms as-of a few years ago. Now apparently Miller and Coors have merged. The website shows the current beers. No regular Coors SoapBox just Coors Lite Dead.

Somebody...take me back to 1987....PLEASE!!!!!

I'm gonna go have a seat in a corner booth...maybe bang my head against the wall lamenting missed opportunities, idiot poly-tick-ians, improbable/impossible layout dreams, the passing of yet another American icon (Hamms Beer), the need for time-travel capabilities...

Jerry - great job on that billboard, and scratchbuilt, too? {tup]

Tom, it'll take some doing, but that little gal should look great once you get her cleaned up. Yeah!!

Ulrich, take care of yourself and Petra there - if it comes to it (to avoid the looney politician), hitchhike your way to England, and maybe the two of you could w**k cook your way across 'the pond' on a tramp steamer...?

So...all in all, is my predicament...

Stubbornness?

A failure to face reality?

Or insanity?

Yep, but no problem, Chris, since we've all been, are currently, or soon will be in a similar fix...Laugh

As for me, this afternoon I got the stuff on the Community Church building I am scratchbuilding (modeled after a craftsman kit I'd seen a ways back, and loosely adapted). Was going to do some of that cutting window openings out, but realized I need more board-and-batten stock for the bell-tower addition on the side. Oops I also got the layout design program fired up and looked at my future layout designs, and found that none of them had much space where I could locate the church (unless I left out the parking area, and the little cemetary to the side like country churches often have - hey, I have the W-S Tombstones, so I need a small cemetary!). Chris, can I come drink my RBF at the corner booth there for a little bit? Thanks.

Prayers for comfort, improving health, and at some point, room/time/funds enough to finish some kind of layout. I think we all could go for that!

Blessings,

Uh Flo? ya got any aspirin back there?

Hey JIM, with your bone yard by the church dilema, here's an approach they took in Flush, Kansas. With the rectory (Priest house) to the immediate south of the church, and the school on the north side, and with farmland along the east border (back) of the church property...the founders of the parish decided to plant the dearly departed deceased across the road.

Here's a shot of the whole town for your amusement...

Maybe THAT will help...if nothing else, a sunny, peaceful scene of tranquility stands in stark contrast to the gray sky, fog, white snow, white houses, gray roofs, gray trees, gray roads, gray poles outside....

Today, got a switch repalced, track glued down, began painting it, and scratchbuilding a tree.

Evening all. Flo, can I please get a RBF?

We lost our game last night, 10-0 (mercy rule, so it ended in the beginning of the 3rd period). We were expecting to lose. So far, we're 0-12, and are last in the state.

Chris, you may want to cover your ears for this next part...
In the game before ours, the ref actually got knocked out... legit. Out cold. Apparently he got caught in the middle of a hit and hit his head on the boards. So they had to finish that game with only one ref... And he was supposed to be our ref, too, so they had to find a replacement for our game. We started about a half hour late, but whatever.

And we had practice at 8 this morning, but it was an hour away! So we had to leave here at 6:30. Which meant getting up at 6. Sure, I get up at 5:45 for school, but just cause it was the weekend, it felt that much worse... I actually came home and just slept...

Well, today I ran the last train on my layout. I have already begun taking it apart, in preparation for the new one. Depending on when we can get the room rearranged, I can begin on benchwork. I already have wood (my dad bought some for something last week, and doesn't need it), so that should be easy.
Anyway, some railfans got out to catch the last train:
Last run on the Watchinson Line

I think I missed, like, 10 pages in here, so IDK if it's even worth catching up...

I'll be at the RC if anyone wants to chat.
