Good morning All,

A regular and a coffee roll please.

In the shop this morning to tangle with the pneumatic nailer. Turns out that a 3/8" dia seal cracked and stopped all 8lbs of nailer dead in it's tracks. All I need now is the trigger seal kit and I'm good to go again. Of course all the shops that would carry the trigger kit are closed today save one so all my hopes are pinned on the local Lowes. Wish us luck.

Tom - thanks for sharing the pics - you're very right that is a real cutie. If the stripper thins thepaint enough and turns it chalky you might be able to call it very weathered, declare victory and go homeWhistling. They never owned any articulateds on the New Haven (that I have been trying to model) but did test one for use on the Maybrook Line and stuck with the smaller stuff which they felt better suited the confines of New England. Since I also am modeling a museum of some sort, i suppose I could add one of the N&W class A's for display (then of course I'd also need to give equal time to SP with a cab forward....).

Well, no kits for the pneumatic trigger in stock so it's time for plan B.  Catch ya'll later. J.R.

Good morning all,

Krump, welcome back.

Still working in the main yard on the layout.  I did get all my decoders tweeked and running very well with the SPROG.  I'm considering taking the roundhouse area off the layout and completly rebuilding it.

Good morning. It's 46 and cloudy. The high will be in the high 50's  and it will be partly cloudy. There's a 20% chance of rain this morning.

Yesterdays rains left the area wet and muddy. Hopefully today we'll have a chance to dry out a bit. Nothing special going on today so maybe I'll get a chance to clear off part of the layout. It's starting to look more like a desk with the stacks of papers from the assorted doctors and pharmacies they came from. There are also assorted tools, small paint cans, several rolls of tape, a couple of tubes of glue and assorted pieces left over from some recent projects. It doesn't take much to make a mess.

Good morning.  Kinda hard to sleep in when animals are running all over the house.

Thanks for the tips on the windows.   I was thinking about doing the windows like Barry said.  Heck Sawyers sound good also.

Not much planned today.  Its only 7:00am and the wife is talking about going shopping again.  Do I go or not is the question!!

On a funny/sad note (either way you take it).................A drunk driver (lady) took a wrong turn and drove 60ft over a trestle yesterday.  She said "she didn't know which way to go, and thought it was a road".  Of course she got stuck half way over.   I don't understand how you wouldn't know you were on a trestle???

  Hope everybodyhas a good morning.

Seems like I have "top honors".    EAT UP!!!!!!!!!!!  No pie throwing!!!!  Well as long as its not: pecan, cherry, apple, pumpkin.  The rest can!!

 Good Morning Everyone,

well, is it really a good morning? I just heard in the radio, that one of our competent politician has the idea of introducing forced labor to the jobless people, because he thinks we don´t want to work!

We already had that before, some 70 years ago, when that Austrian with the strange mustache ruled the world ... Sad

Folks, it is getting time to pack up and go - Germany is not my country anymore. From forced labor to forced labor camps to - we all know, what happened back then,  are only little steps.  I am worried. But where to go to?

Flo, just a coffee, please, I don´t feel like eatin´ anything.

Chris - I am glad you like my layout idea. Over the time, I have developed ideas for a number of different shelf layouts, which I can mail to you. Or if, you like, you can provide me with your givens and druthers, so I can develop a track plan according to that. Just give me a word ...

I am out for the moment - I have to collect my thoughts. Don´t know whether I just should be embarrassed or to start to fear for my life.

Todd & Jerry ..... Yes, I recall Hamm's advertisments. I used to see their cartoon commercials watching the Cubs games when I grew up in Chicago area. Jack Brickhouse announced the play-by-plays while Ernie Banks slammed his home runs over the vines in Wrigley Field.

Krump .... good to see you again !!!

Ulrich .... That's a neat looking loco.

Cal Tom ... have fun with that brass loco. I bet you can make it look the way it should.

We were at a wedding today. Next to days will be really busy.

Happy Model Railraoding.

Evening all from FoggyCal, awaiting the first of several Pineapple/Alaskan expresses:

GMT/Packer:  Thanks for the comments on paint strippers.  But guess what?  I forgot to read one little instruction on the Jasco:  "SHAKE WELL BEFORE USING."   I mean, talk about a DUH!! moment! Confused

Anyhow, I'll get started on the little lady tomorrow.  And the stripper is not acidic, thank God, so it shouldn't effect the solder.  I'll try it on a 'broad' surface before getting into the details.

But if you guys are interested, this is what I have to do:

She's a little cutie, but as you can see, I've got to take off what looks like house-paint all over her.  I think I've got my work cut out for me for the next week, LOL!

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Good Evening All,

Knocked off in the basement when the framing gun went belly up. I'll take it to the shop tomorrow and see if I can fix it.I've got the CFO's exercize room about half framed so I made some progress. Also dropped into the LHS and picked up some KD's and metal wheel sets to so some fixin' on the freight cars for the after school group.

I see Krump dropped in. Hope he stops back for a cup and an update. Been quite a while since he last visited

Tom - any stripper that would attack solder would need to be acidic. I don't think any of the alkali or glycol based strippers are powerful enough to erode solder joints. That must be some nasty paint they used. You could try commercial aircraft or fibreglass stripper as you can't erode either of those when you strip the paint. I do remember some commercial strength akali strippers (whatever redi-stripp used) would eat aluminum though.

Ulrich - Just because you have to live within your means shouldn't mean you must give up all your dreams and pursuits. I like the smaller revised plan as well as the larger room sized one. An advantage with your waterfront layout is it should be readily expandable should your circumstances change (and we all pray they do). Are you going to try to handlay all the track or will you use one of the regular brands? I haven't seen any hand laid N scale track is it difficult?

Ray - I shouldn't laugh at your logging bridge. We have similar bridges on both the HO and O gage layouts at the museum. The HO suggests that the main line past a yard has a branch heading off layout and the O is an extention of the overhead trolley line the other end of which goes into a tunnel. We have an automatic reverser that shuttles the car back and forth as part of the action.

Jeff - great that you're healing faster than expected. Hope you can get back to your layout soon.

I'll hang out for a bit while I finish my wine and chocolate then it's off to get some sleep. Lots to try to do tomorrow.  Cheers, J.R.

Yep. It was so well-known and identified with Minnesota that the St. Paul Pioneer Press named the bear as a runner-up on its list of "150 Influential Minnesotans of the Past 150 Years" in 2000.

Good evening all.  Flo, I'll have the country fried steak, mashed taters with gravy, corn, and a biscuit please ma'am.  Oh yeah, and a sweet tea to wash it all down.  Yes ma'am, I'll stay at the RC and wait for it.

Nothing happening in my neck of the woods, its been a warmer, although rainy and dreary day today.  Rain is supposed to clear out later tonight.  I'm currently in an empty house, Amy and the girls are at her mom's house and I've yet to hear from them on when they'll be back home, which is okay for right now since I'm enjoying the relative peace and quiet.

Vincent glad to hear that you got the o-rings for the injectors, hope that you are able to get her going "properly" again.

Well, thats about it from my neck of the woods, I'm going to hang out around here and see what comes up, if'n y'all need me, just holler.

Evening ya'll

Got the new o-rings for the injector in my car, turns out the old ones were tore up pretty bad. Hopefully now the milage will be where it's supposed to be. It's gotten less than 20 so far.

In MRR news, in cleaning of my workbench I found the Ice-machined GP18. I tested the unit to find all axles broke (one of the shops in pensacola replaces those for free), and realized my brass steps haven't arrived from "TJs model trains and things." Wonder what's taking, I ordered them before christmas...

Tom, what have been using to strip that articulated? I would think soaking it in can of carburetor cleaner (although I'm nore sure the engine would fit in the cans; the ones I have are gallon paint can sized) might work. I'm not sure what it'd do to solder or brass, but it sems to be safe for every kind of metal I've used it for; but plastic and maybe rubber wont last more than a few seconds in the stuff. I've soaked the winterization hatch etching of my F45 in is since it got CA all over it; although I think the hatch was actually stainless steel and not brass. Took off all the paint and the CA in a few hours. I've also cleaned out paint jars with the stuff. That or blasting of some sort, but that could eat the brass.

Jim, the UP rotary is way different than the athearn one. IIRC, the athearn one is a lima-built that would be steam powered. I've never bothered to mess with mine much more than installing a decoder. The blades spin by a series of rubber-band belts, and it pickes up power from one rail in the tender, and the other from the body so it's kind of finicky over rough track. Remind me to finish installing wipers so it can pick up power from both sides from all trucks.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Ok a question.................... If I want to make my own buildings (nothing special).  How do you add the windows?????  Like cut the holes out??

Robby: The way I do mine is that I would drill/cut out a small hole that I can fit a nibbler in--basically a small scissor/cutter. I work my way around that hole until I get close to the outline of the window----the rest is taking needle files to the edges until they match the window frame---in my case---when I reach  that point I can usually just pop them in.

If anyone is interested, O.J. Ed sent me the roster of the D&RG E me and I can send it to you.  The weather the last two days was perfect for bikers. mid to 60's to low 70's and plenty of sunshine. Today was not so good-dreary and low 70's with some sprinkles. Expect more rain tonight and early sunday. Hope all are well and warm.

Hey, Jeff?  How about the catapult?  I don't see it?  I could fabricate one? LOL  Awesome Diner!  Do you have a place on your layout for it?  Or will the switcher just move it about once a month, as it does on the "prototype"?

Nope, no catapult. I had Vinny crunch it up into tiny pieces and burn it out back. I already have a spot for the diner. I just have to wait until I can work on the layout again.

I hooked up the SPROG II USB DCC programmer and small layout controller!

Price: $99.99

Comes with: Programmer, 1.25A power supply, USB cable and software.

This SPROG II is very different from other USB DCC interfaces currently on the market today. There is no need for a layout or DCC system to program your locomotives.  The SPROG II works completely independent making this a great tool for anyone who belongs to a large club layout or for those that want to sit at the kitchen table with a laptop and program their locomotive. Once I installed the SPROG II I took a piece of wood and mounted a 24” section of track and soldered two wires to the end.   I hooked the two wires into the SPROG II, plugged in the power supply provided and connected the USB cable to my computer.  I downloaded the latest JMRI software (free) and fired it up.  The first locomotive I wanted to try was a Bachmann Berkshire I had equipped with a Soundtraxx DSD-101LC sound decoder.  The first screen allows you to identify the locomotive in a roster and allows you to query the locomotives installed DCC decoder.  The software quickly identified my decoder and I was ready to go.  I’m not going to bore you with the workings of the JMRI software, but the SPROG II allowed me to program the CVs and test the locomotive without touching the locomotive or connecting it to the layout!  I was able to run the locomotive forward and backward and test all the functions without my layout.  Did you catch the I DIDN”T HAVE TO PUT IT ON THE LAYOUT part?  I would recommend buying a set of roller bearing stationary test stands in conjunction with your test track if you want to program QSI equipped locomotives.  Some of the QSI sounds only operate while the locomotive is moving.

It was very nice not to have to move the locomotive between the layout and the programming track, better yet to sit upstairs at my workbench and test a locomotive without the trips up and down the stairs.

I’d give this product 5 out of 5 stars.

Hey folks. sorry for the absence yesterday; had a "nothing" day, haha.
Absolutely LOVED the rugby scrimmage Thursday. didn't prehydrate well enough and my calves locked up at the very end. Otherwise, I did pretty good. definitely have some stuff to work on, but overall I didn't screw up, haha.
