Ugh, I can't sleep... And I'm getting up in 6 hours to leave for Boston... (for someone who's 15, 6 hours of sleep is NOTHING)...

Jim- Not sure how much of an advantage the garage really is. The decals were dry to the touch, but were destroyed the second they hit the water... Maybe something to do with the cold temps in the garage, and they weren't sealed correctly? IDK. I'll try again in a few days when I get back from Boston...

I'm bring my computer up with me, but IDK how much I'll be in while I'm up there...
Later!

I've been down with a busted computer. It crashed five times yesterday before I got to where I could do a somewhat successful setup. The video drivers won't load, the sound is on the blink and half the USB ports don't work. That spells main board trouble! Great! Just what I didn't need. I tried installing an old Sound Blaster board in an attempt to get sound back but no dice, it wouldn't load. XP can't see a 16 bit device. The USB ports that are out are the ones that came preinstalled on the main board. The added on ones work fine. That points another finger at the main board. I'm also getting some flaky readings from the CPU. Still another main board indicator. Looks like the computer is gonna be down for a while.

 Good Morning Everyone,

Zoe, make that a large coffee for me, please n´ thanks!

I am done with today´s tests, no reason to stay in bed all day long. I just got dressed and walked over to the internet cafe to check my mails. My provider will not transfer the "old" messages, so they are lost for good... Sad. I hope I did not miss anything important - like an invitation for a job interview.

Jeff - I am with you! I just hate having computer problems. My internet connection at home is just like push-ups - up and down and up again, maybe down in a second. It is supposed to be highspeed DSL ... Sleepy

No idea, how long I will have to stay in this place. I am getting bored, as there is just nothing I can do other than read, sleep or walk around a little. Petra will not come today, as the roads are icy this morning. I hope they get sick and tired of me and send me home soon Smile,Wink, & Grin

Hope you all have a good day  take care!

"Rant"  I know at 5:00am Dead

Well the roads were covered again, and no way I was making it to work (tried both cars).  I tried, but the cars was all over the place.  Came back home to call the supervisor, and he tells me "One more call off, and your fired".   I was furious, well I'm still furious!!  So.........If it snows again, and I wreck, I loose my job?   I didn't ask, I was worried I would go off.  I'm honestly REALLy turned off about that job.  Ever since the wreck trying to get to work last week.  I guess its time to start job hunting again.

I will pop back in later.  Once everybody wakes up.

 Good Afternoon All,

I have just finished my luxury hospital meal Dead and slipped out again.

Robby P. - your supervisor seems to lack any social competence at all - I think it is irresponsible of him to call you on duty when road conditions prohibit your safe arrival. IMHO, your rant is justified! I hope you don´t lose your job, though - I keep my fingers crossed!

Ray - I started out with a VW bug myself. It was a 1972 1302L in dark blue. I bought it used with very little mileage. Never failed on me until I sold it. I still wonder how I managed to get in and out of this car... Big Smile A couple of years ago Volkswagen was pondering whether to produce a "real" VW bug again, based on the platform of the new "up!"-generation  of sub-miniature cars (i.e. the new Lupo, but I am not sure, whether this one is marketed in the US/Canada). It was supposed to have a rear engine and looked very close to the old one.

The New Beetle does not sell well over here - it is just a VW Golf (or "Rabbit") with a lot less space. I have not heard whether VW is following up on this project.

Edit:

I just heard that I will be out of this place by Thursday morning - in time for New Year´s Eve! Still no clue what caused the break down, but as long as I am feeling fine, I don´t give a dang!

The weather-guessers are predicting 16 - 18" of sn*w  over the next days in and around Hamburg Shock

Good morning all,

I’m behind on posts so I’ll try to catch up later.  Saturday, Sunday, and Monday I worked on the area around the Ice House just south of the LS&W yard near Fox Creek, OH.  I’m modeling a rough grassy area with debris of a torn down field stone structure the RR removed to make room for the Ice House.  Since then the RR has discarded several 55 gallon drums and some scrap steel on the adjacent empty lot.  It appears some Methyetheleatyourfaceoff has escaped some of the drums.  This doesn’t seem to deter the deer from grazing on the rough grass.

7.3” of snow here in 24 hours, too bad it arrived 2 days after Christmas.  Still snowing and we may get another 3-5”.

Sam, I have an older Bachmann 0-6-0 with tender; not too impressed the locomotive doesn’t move until you have about 50% power on.  Not sure it’s worth the effort to install a new motor and convert it to DCC or not.  We shall see.

Bama, you could start out with a car that has horn hooks on one side and a knuckle coupler on the other, or hook horn on one end of the locomotive and a knuckle coupler on the other. I found using the Life-Like and the Bachmann replacement couplers easy, KayDee #5 is the best, but they are more expensive than the plastic couplers.

Good morning. Ham and eggs please, over easy with hash browns, the shredded kind, no the diced ones, no how about the rough cut, aw, make it the sliced potatoes. With onions. Coffee too, Thank you

Utility bill was about $100 less than I thought. That's a yeah. However, that just means 100 less I have to pay, not 100 more to play. Not sure what my work hours are going to be this week, the owner kept saying something about I may call you for some things. ( I hope it's not to wash her feet. She's a very pretty lady, so that means she probably has nasty toes.) Going in to see Mom today. It's Tuesday and the FLHS is open. Unfortunately I can't think of anything I need/want that is in the end of month budget. Or the "dip into next month's budget and hope for the best" budget.

They have done something with my internet connection (cable) in the past few months. It was rather shakey and I lost connection enough times in a day to thing it possibly was my modem but then there was a prolonged outage, like 4 or 5 hours, a month or two or three ago and the thing has been rock solid ever since.

Robby- I see both sides here, your Supervisor needs employees and you need to keep the cars operable and would prefer to remain alive to see that the railroad gets completed. You know what is safe enough for you. A job is a necessity, but only if you're around to need one. I agree, start looking for another job before the Stuper-visor gets a wild hair.

Ulrich- We have the new VW's over here. Have for several years now. Pretty good sellers at least around here. Are you speaking of a newer yet Beetle? That's great news you're gonna be set loose Thursday.

Lee- Were those meant to be links in your first morning post? Or are you laughing your posterior off knowing I'm sitting here clicking away on every blue word trying to get it to bring up a picture. Laugh

I think I'm going downstairs to the train room before I get involved in lifes daily events.

Have a Great Day!!!

Computer crashed first thing this morning. I had to do another Windows setup to get it going again. The sound drivers won't load, the display drivers won't load, the PCI bus won't initialize and the onboard USB ports are dead. Looks like the main board has had the computer version of a stroke. I put in an add-on display card so I at least have default video. No, the drivers for it won't load either. Remember the PCI problem? It's a PCI video board. Looks like a new computer may be the lower cost choice this time around. All my drives are ATA 100 IDE and finding IDE capable boards is like hunting for hens teeth. To rebuild the current system I would need to get a new mainboard, at least one SETA hard drive because I seriously doubt I'm going to find an IDE board and a SETA compatible CD drive. That all adds up to a major expense in money I just don't have at this time. Looks like I'll only be online a couple of times a week when I can get to my parents computer.

Todd, I’ll fix the links when I get home, sorry about that.

Jeff, I see those AT&T laptops are $299 if you sign up for a 2 year wireless connection with them.  I have the USB AT&T wireless add on for my laptop and I love it.  The only time I’ve had a connection problem is near major highways during rush hour due to the cell tower switching issue.  You could convert your old hard drive to a USB external drive.  If you set it to Disk Zero, LUN Zero you can boot from the external.  The external boxes with power supply run about $15.

Hey Jeff, sorry to hear about your computer troubles.  I wish you the best of luck and getting it taken care of.

Ulrich, glad to hear from you and also glad to hear that you will be getting out of there for New Years!

Well all its a cool morning down here in Bama, low last night was 25 and its only right about freezing at this time, but that's all right.  I'm currently at my house waiting for the gas company to show up and fill the tank for us, but if he don't show up in a few minutes, I've gotta jet to the fireworks stand to go and open it at 10, then I have to be at w**k at 1, so its a pretty busy morning for me.  Thanks for all the advice on the couplers all.  I've been emailing back and forth with Jim and he's got a bunch of accumate and such knuckle couplers that he's taken off whilst switching over to Kadee's, so I believe that I'm going to take those off his hands until I can start accumulating Kadee's to convert my fleet over.  If any of y'all have any spare couplers (don't really care what brand they are at the moment as long as they are knuckle couplers) I'd be happy to take them off your hand, just shoot me a message.

Other than those things not much happening in my neck of the woods, guess I'm heading off to the other end of town to go and open the stand up, wish the gas co would call and say that they were on the way so I'd have an idea of what's happening on their end.  Oh well...

Todd - the New Beetle is not a seller over here - VW is planning to replace it next year or the year after next. They had plans for a car called "The Bug", with a rear engine, just like the good old bug. Would love to have one of those Smile

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a big bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar this morning and a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug.  What can I say, I'm a creature of habit.....  I'll be in the front booth watching the switcher working a string through the drifts.......

Ulrich glad to hear you will be making a break for it before the New Year!  Hope you are doing well. There are a few of the New Beetles around Geneva, but they are all the diesel powered ones.  I see they have gone back to gas engines for them.

Jeffrey sounds like its time for a computer upgrade to me.  Knock on wood my 5 year old Mac G5 still keeps plugging away so it will be a few more years before i feel the need to "upgrade".  Without all the business stuff I will most likely go to the iMac type when the time comes.

I was wondering the same thing Todd........

MMM--I was a strange duck back then

Back then, Barry???  (Sorry I can't leave a straight line like THAT alone.....Smile,Wink, & Grin)

It is currently a sweltering 9°F outside the house with wind chills bringing it down to around -9°F.  Forecast calls for snow and wind!  Nice day for a drive to Rochester International Airport.  My sister arrives late this afternoon and I get to give her taxi service to her house.  Aren't I lucky??? Whistling  I also forgot to pick up her winter coat yesterday when I was feeding the kitties so I get to go via her house in Canandaigua...  Luckily it is not too far out of the way.

If I get moving, I might actually get some railroading time in before I have to leave.

I'll catch you all in a bit!

Its lunch!!!  I will just take a sweet tea to go.

I went out this morning, and got me some SNOW tires.  It only took 3 hours to get them put on the car.  Talk about a wait.   So...........I should be good to go, as far as work wise.

Ulrich.......I agree.  I guess its the "southern" in me, thats part of the reason I can't drive in snow.   I wish we could meet in the middle with this.  Most of my jobs have.

Todd......I guess it does work both ways.  I like the job, and he told me I am hs eyes and ears.  Just that dang "SNOW" keeps getting in the way.

Jeff.....I know all about computer crashes.  I'm having to use the wifes laptop, and I hope this one doesn't crash.  Man I wouldn't hear the end of it.

Jerry.....I was looking at jobs around here, and VERY VERY few.   Hopefully my tires will make a difference.

Ray......Good ole' VW.  My grandparents had one and snow was nothing to it.  Its good to have the engine in the back.  I had a 1972 standard beetle.  Factory look........NO WAY!!!!!!!!  I painted it teal, with a purple pearl.  It would change color in the sunlight.  The inside was out of a Ford Mustang.  The radio was four (yes four) 15 inch woofers, and it was LOUD.   The engine was all chrome.  Duel carbs, drag cam, BIG pistons, the bug was also slammed to the ground.   It rode so rough, when my grandmother would ride in the car, sometimes her teeth would pop out.  The engine was so LOUD.......The neighbor was going to call the police (thanks to the cam).  The whole car shaked.  It was GREAT.  Had that "Chevy big block" sound.  Thats one of my favorite cars I've owned.

Good Morning all from Foggy/RainyCal:

Hope everyone had a great Christmas.  Vancouver was overcast most of the time, but no snow.  Some rain.  The trip up was beautiful going over the Cascades, though.

Unfortunately, Christmas Eve afternoon, my step-granddaughter Robyn had a flareup of Crohn's disease that put her in the hospital for two days.  So most of the holiday was spent going back and forth between the hospital.  Unfortunately she has a system that doesn't respond well to pain medication--even a morphine drip--so it was not a pleasant situation.

I hate to think of what she's got in store for her with that disease--she's only 16.  I sincerely pray that it doesn't involve surgery in the future.  That's one NASTY disease, and as she told me, you never know when it's going to strike.  She's one sweet girl, and I hate to see her in pain.   Part of the controlling of the disease is very carefully watching your diet, but at 16 it's hard to follow some of the rules.

Hell, at 70, it's hard for ME to follow some of the 'rules', so I know where she's coming from, LOL!  Tongue

Santa was good to me, he got me a gift certificate to Bruce's Train Shop here in Sacramento, plus a cute little 'undec' Bachmann Spectrum 2-10-0 that runs like a little jewel.  I have no idea what the Yuba River Sub is going to do with a 2-10-0, since the Rio Grande never had that wheel arrangement, but I'm sure I'll find something to do with it, and a fake number classification to squeeze it into.  I mean, hey, after all, MY Rio Grande bought Yellowstones, so I suppose MY Rio Grande could have had a 2-10-0, right?   I mean, sometimes it's necessary for 'reality' to take a back seat to 'what-if'. Whistling

Seems I missed another explosion on the Forum, though I did catch the first part of it.  I kinda liked the StromBecker post until it deteriorated into a Slam-fest.  I still thought those kits were an awful lot of fun when I was a kid.  Building them was sure a big help with better kits when I started taking HO seriously.  Oh well--

Ulrich:  Glad you're getting released by New Year's.  So the "Beetles" don't sell well in Germany?  Out here in California you see them all the time.  I had one of the earlier ones when I was in college, and those little puppies were Indestructable.  Got me thoroughly convinced that the Germans build the best cars in the world.   I've been a devout Audi driver for the past ten years and love 'em!

Jeff:  Sorry to hear about the 'puter.  Dang, buddy, sure hope stuff turns around for you this New Year!

Decided what I'm going to do with my Bruce's gift certificate--use it to start collecting those Walthers "City" cars.  I've got a lovely BLI "City of San Francisco" A-B-B E-6 set that desperately needs a train.  Of course, I'll have to wait until this time next year to obtain the full train, but it should be fun.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Good afternoon to all, been a while since I dropped into the Diner, I see many familiar faces but no Fergie or Duke or Ed..hmmmmmm, where are those guys? The temp has been dropping like a rock all day, now down to 12.9F and winds are gusting to over 35 at times, so I dont have to tell you guys where the wind chill is!!!

Finally getting to do some MRR today after weeks of other delays. I finally decided that I had enough with my old computer, and I was tired of blowing money buying newer ones every so many years, so I built my own. TigerDirect.com and Newegg.com have the best prices by far if you intend to build your own. The new PC is a beast running Windows 7 64 bit with 6 Gb of RAM and SSD for drive "C". Building it was a piece of cake and I can tell you that you guys can do it with even the smallest experience.Essentially, everything is just plug in. Jeff can attest to that, he has built PCs.

ULRICH: Very happy to hear you are on the road to recovery, may the New Year bring you Health and Happiness.

ROB: Hope you are doing better buddy, hang in there.

JEFF: Time to get rid of Xp and get Windows 7 , build a new PC Jeff, or at least get an new i7 Motherboard.

CLOE: If John, Fergie, Duke or Ed show up, the tab is on me.

RAY: Enough with this cold and wind !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even the squirrels and Coyotes have run for cover !!! Build the fence higher at the Canadian border !!

GARRY: Glad to see you got back home safe and sound from the holiday trip !

Later guys, mrr time

Good afternoon Diner people!

Just thought I would pop in before leaving to get my sister who is returning from the "very far".  Mexico this time actually.  While checking my email, I found a video sent out through the museum server (same one that the LSD NMRA uses).  It should have been sent out before Christmas I think,  Server has evidently not been doing its thing.  An email I sent out to NMRA members several days ago finally went out this morning.  Anyway, I though you folks might enjoy a Trolley Ride at the New York Museum of Transportation.  The video is shot looking out the front window and may be what people might have seen riding home for Christmas a 100 years ago on the Rochester and Eastern maybe?  (The R & E served Geneva from Rochester until about 1930).  Enjoy!  http://www.youtube.com/rgvrrm

Tom sorry to hear about your step-granddaughter.  Crohn's disease at age 16.......  My heart goes out to her.  Sounds like you had a good Christmas though.  You didn't really miss much in the explosion...  Just the same old being the same old saying what amounted to "Yes it was!  No it wasn't!  Yes it was!  Routine.  Seems to be impossible to have a conversation with some people.  They seem to be stuck at the age of 11 or so..... ("Shut up!"  "No you shut up!"  "I told you to shut up first!"  You can't make me shut up!" etc!)

Robby and Barry, a college friend of mine had a high school classmate who stuck a huge V8 into where the back seat was supposed to be in a VW Bug....  Used to have fun blowing away all the muscle cars in his home town of Torrence, CA............... I have a BIL who used to have a little old Jeep he stuck a Chevy 283 in for the same purpose.  I was kinda cool leaving a stop light blowing blue smoke off all 4 tires........Smile,Wink, & Grin

Need to get a move on here.  Later!

No I'm not dead. Just been workin on the layout and texting my butt off, lol.

I might get the roof done today on the furniture factory, or I'll wire up the layout a bit more. I picked up the wire today for both the town side and also to run a bus. will just be soldering connections though, as it still works fine and also is a HECK of a lot cheaper than suitcase connectors. In other ANRR news, 3 50' insulated boxcars have arrived, as well as 4 Evans 53' dbl. plug door boxcars. The furniture factory can be switched out, although there are not enough boxcars on roster to model the flow of lumber (I'll be building up a boxcar fleet for this b/c they can be used to switch out other industries. I'll later build up a fleet of centerbeam flats to take over this job.) Don't have any pics. have taken some with my new phone. the Env3 has a 3 megapixel camera. not magazine quality, but still decent snapshots.

 Have a great day folks!

JEFF: Time to get rid of Xp and get Windows 7 , build a new PC Jeff, or at least get an new i7 Motherboard.

Can't afford to go that route.

Went out and priced a new main board and processor today. The board (IDE capable) is $54 and the processor (2.6 dual-core Intel) is $81. Comes to 146.48 with tax included. I'll have to spread that over 2 or 3 months.

Good afternoon, Chloe? a double cheeseburger basket 'n Coke to go please 'n thank-you. Oh, a couple plain cheeseburgers for Rerun too while you're at it.

All this talk about VW Bugs would set Loving Wife's heart a-fluttering. She loves those cars. Someday I'll have to get her a real one. Her 2000 New Beetle has been a fine machine. My 2002 New Beetle...welp, I keep debating how best to get rid of the piece of crap. Fine German engineering with ***-poor Mexican assembly.

Got the new glasses yesterday, a costly penalty for a dumb-*** moment.

ULRICH: Glad they're kicking you out, hopefully for good reasons.

JEFF: Sorry to hear of the 'pooter troubles.

ROBBY P: Snow tires and invincibility do not equal. In other words...they'll help, but I wouldn't bet my life on them. Use all due discretion and caution 'eh??

I'm in a little too foul of a mood to hang out in here amongst nice people today.

Hope everybody has a good, safe rest of the day, and an even better tomorrow.

Sam, I have an older Bachmann 0-6-0 with tender; not too impressed the locomotive doesn’t move until you have about 50% power on.  Not sure it’s worth the effort to install a new motor and convert it to DCC or not.  We shall see.

Lee, is it a relatively nice looking model? or does it leave you wanting for more detail?

Well, gotta go...  The wife just told me it's time to go have diner with her parents.... Wish me luck!!!

Jeffrey W. I am also very jealous of that 50' B&O Yellow Boxcar. I go nuts for anything B&O , C&O, Chessie, and am warming up to modern day CSX!

If you really like it maybe we can work something out. Got something to trade?

Maybe we should talk in PM's Jeff. IIRC I DO have something you were interested in before my summer of discontent of multiple surgeries, and family surgeries gone wrong too.

Galaxy- Anything in particular in B&O / C&O ??    In H O of course.

Flip

Flip, no nothing in particular and yet one of everything I just like to loosely proto/freelance model B&O and all its incarnates as my fav, with a few trackage rights to PRR to pass through. And Yes, HO of course and all DCC compliant. On disability my budget doesn't allow me to induldge myself as much as I'd like.

JimRCGMO

Galaxy, it sounds like you did up your Christmas celebration for everybody on the gifts. Can I be a relative of yours next year?Wink We tried to do our part to keep things toned down, and besides, this is Elliott's (Trackside) Diner, so we usually wind up having a mug of coffee (or something stronger) after things wind down and we settle down at the RC. Big Smile

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Gee, aw, shucks. Jim, It wasn't all that much for presents for family. But maybe for next year I could adopt you...what would you like for a present?

And it was understood that it seemed there was some temperament on the almost-near flame war I saw going on in the diner, had it escalated I know the diner woulda been shut down. That woulda been a shame.

Just a quick stop.......Gotta beat the snow!!!

.........  They are calling for 2 inches tonight!!!!  That's by day break, and I have to get up at 3:00am.  I'm sure the roads will be a mess.  I honestly don't know what to tell them.  I'm not to drive with that guy again, and I'm not putting my car in danger.  If it gets wrecked, well.........I will be out of work for a few days, or will have to leave work early (take the wifes car to work).  Either way they won't like that.   I just don't know what to do. Confused

Robby...ain't it grand living in a snow belt??? Think or our neighbors to the north.

Robby P.

I agree 100%!!!  Its not that I don't want to go to work, I don't wanna wreck my car, get hurt, etc...

Unless there is a good "State of Emergency" Most employers will expect you to show for for work even if it takes you hours to get there. Just think a good three more months of winter!!!

Sir Madog

I have to get ready to be taken to the hospital. Jeff - take care while I am gone, will you?

You all have a good time! Will see you next year!

Ulrich, Special prayers will be for you too!

BamaCSX83

I do have a question that y'all might be able to answer.  All of my rolling stock and other locos still have plain ole horn-hooks on them.  I'm fairly certain that the Bachmann engine that I've got on order will probably come with some form of knuckle coupler.  The obvious question is will the two work together, or will I be stuck having to immediately convert all my existing stuff over to knuckle couplers (planning on doing that in the future, but its not a "do it right now or else" thing on my list).

Bama I have two passenger cars that have horn hook couplers that will hitch to my Bachman engine  knuckle couplers and play well. I have yet to convert them, I will. They just need to be hooked/unhooked by the "hand of God" method.

Jeffrey W. ain't modern tech and the costs associated with it grand? I often fear being left behind for lack of the budget to support it. AND some of it I don't want!!

WELL! I still ahve 2 pages to go but this is enough rambling from me for those who even read what I write, dyslexic typing as it may be...

Have a great night and a better tomorrow guys!

Tall glass of cool lemon water, please.

Long day of packing the LAST of the Inlaw's stuff from their old room and moving it into a storage locker. Only thing we kept was a display frame thing with glass shelves. I thought the wife could display some of her Breyer horses on, but she thinks it would make a nice model train display. We shall see.

Beyond exhausted tonight, so will catch up to y'all another day. Hope everyone is doing well.

Hey, I survived...

After dinner I went to Home Depot and picked up nuts bolts and lock washers to put together the "new/old" table in my basement.  Got the table assembled and had my wife help me move the train table onto the "new/old" table... ran my new 2-8-0 around and it kept stalling... yes indeed I had to rub down every single rail to get the oxidation off... I'm gonna have to replace all the tracks at some point to reduce the amount of maintenance I have to perform just to run an engine around... I also lost the manual to my Bachmann EZDCC somewhere during the move, so off I go to download it from their site...

Chloe, may Please have a large coffee and a tuna fish sandwich, I have a feeling it is going to be a little bit of a search to gbet the manual downloaded.

EDIT: BTW, the 2-8-0 shows every single flaw in my trackwork... looks like I'm going to have to redo the tracks sooner rather than later if I wanna run this little beauty around...

Good evening,I thought I would share some progress pictures with you.  I still have some final touches to add and a few areas need touched up but I hope you enjoy the unfinished product.  I started this area last Sunday and hope to finish up sometime next week. Please ignore the mess in the background.  This is where the DC throttles sat for the layout.http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2080015720029441264AgnSDz?vhost=ridesLeft side looking east, the rubble was from previous field stone buildings torn down to make room for the Ice House.http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2080015720029441264AgnSDz?vhost=ridesThe deer doesn’t look too impressed with the new paint job on that 1940 Ford Pick-up.http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2156656030029441264VnOGoH?vhost=ridesLooking east:http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2669100140029441264ayouix?vhost=ridesDeer vs. Ford:http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2161326120029441264wxAioG?vhost=rideshttp://rides.webshots.com/photo/2898344800029441264UWTtpM?vhost=ridesThe deer don’t seem to mind the stuff leaking out of the drums.http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2392930450029441264OWpVeo?vhost=rideshttp://rides.webshots.com/photo/2612138990029441264xaLsRg?vhost=rides

Good Evening Diners!

Haven't been on the home computer since the 23rd so I've had a lot of catching up to do.

Well it seems most of us had a good Christmas. Ours was very hectic as in ironing the table cloth at 2 a.m. on Christmas morning. My poor wife was exhausted by the end of day as she spent all day in the kitchen going at a pace I can't keep up with. The meal was really spectacular but she says she won't do it again as it is too much work for too few people. We spent all of Boxing Day and part of the next just vegging in front of the TV as we were too tired to do anything else.

I too had a VW bug while at University. I got a 1961 Beetle Deluxe in early 1968 and you are so right about it going through snow especially the one I had as it had studded snow tires. Mine also had a gas heater which had 2 settings, off or full blast. The heater was under the back seat so you flipped it up for use and then flipped the switch which caused a swoosh from the ignition and then the heat came on with fan force that blew around any passenger's hair. Soon you felt as if your face would boil so you shut it off and quickly the car was freezing again. So it had 2 temp settings, freeze or broil.

Sam, if you want an 0-6-0 I can sure recommend the PK2 version. The detail is amazing and it will really crawl. Mine was produced by Life Like and putting a decoder in it was plug n play.

PC, nice to hear you are working on your layout again and I was curious as to why you are changing your staging to Unitrack. I will soon start on my N scale adventure and am debating between Unitrack and Atlas code 55. I like the look of the code 55 but it seems a bit finicky to lay. What flex are you using?

Chris, I can relate about a pet dog running free. Many years ago I had an Afghan Hound when I lived on the outskirts of a small town in northwest Ontario. In the winter I would let him out for a run and wow could he run. I measured his stride and it was about 6'. I had to stop his winter runs as once he crossed the river in front of my parents house and investigated the barn on the other side. I thought he would get lost for sure as across the river was Minnesota. He did come back though and I caught up with him trotting down Main Street. I opened the door on the truck and said, 'Nazareth get in here' and for once he obeyed me.

Robby, I sympathize with you on your problem with snow and the boss. Where I work you are docked a day if you don't show up and the only excuse for weather is if the city is officially closed which I can't remember ever happening. There have been days with blizzards but again that isn't an excuse but at least they don't give you the sack.

Well we have to take our little Pippa into the vets tomorrow and it is likely that we will have to get one eye removed as there is a crack in the cornea which just won't heal especially in a dog as old as she is. I'm not looking forward to tomorrow but I guess that pales in comparison to some of the health issues some of you face.

Not a lot done on the RR over Christmas but I did get some trees installed. I have been running my CP equipment and have to say that S3 is an amazing little loco.. It can creep so slowly it is barely moving.

See you soon,

CN Charlie
