jazz, classic rock, classical, bluegrass or old country; sort of in that order and not all at once.

Jazz!

Chuck Loeb, Brian Culbertson, Phillip Brown, Joyce Kooling, Steve Cole, Greg Karukas.
Cool and upbeat! Won't put you to sleep. Their music makes me visualize trains that are rolling at speed!

"I like my Pullman Standards & Budds in Stainless Steel flavors, thank you!"

Since we are talking about the "Iron Horse"(Ferro-equine), I'd have to say that only "Heavy Metal"(pun INTENDED) would be my choice, some Metallica, or Pantera, or Anthrax(the band, not the virus),Crank it up!!

Modern jazz on very low volume, stuff like the old George Shearing albums, even a little Stan Getz. Once in a while I can get into classical, but none of the moderm classical that sounds half done and off key.

Depends on where I'm working and what mood I'm in.

The current playlist on my iPod has some techno (mostly Basment Jaxx and Felix Da Housecat,) some blues (Blues Brothers, ect,) Rock (Billy Joel, Gorillaz, Garbage, Stones,) Celtic (Cranberries, Cheiftans, bagpipes lol,) Hip Hop (Black Eyed Peas, Wycleff, X-Ecutioners)

LOL I know my girlfriend likes to listen to indie rock while she builds models and runs trains.

Tried Buffet, ended up building boats and drinking boat drinks in a hammock , Blue Oyster Cult made me want to sma***okyo commuter trains, so now I listen to what has always got me by, The Beatles. Side 2 of Abbey Road is pure heaven.

I don't listen to music when I'm working on my layout--no CD player in the garage. I do listen to a lot of industrial music, though, which may be appropriate for my layout and its emphasis on industrial switching! As for the gothic stuff, well, I do have a weakness for SP's "Black Widow" paint scheme...and hey, Love & Rockets' "(This Train Is) Bound for Hell" is a great song...

Mostly rock, depending on what mood I'm in and what I'm currently working on:

Nirvana, Foo Fighters, QOTSA, Korn, Status Quo, Deep purple, Led Zep, The Darkness, Franz Ferdinand, Auf Der Maur, HIM, Placebo, The White Stripes or whatever I may find in my CD collection.

Ever heard a bonus track play just when you're very conentrated in painting some lining or other details [:D]
