W**k went slow tonight and I'd have been in sooner but a bunch of wackos in red robes and poofy looking hats grabbed me and threw me roughly into a very comfy chair. Then they tried to make me submit by poking me with soft cushions. Luckily the stuffing wasn't pushed up into the corners very well and I was able to resist. Anyway they left and I made it home. Hey, that looks like the chair right over there. What's it doing in here?
Robby- You may get away with using the food processor for foam. I wouldn't however use it for dirt. Dirt will dull metal faster than JR on a Sunday afternoon. And THAT my friend is a good way to find yourself looking for a place to sleep. If you do, for your sake, wash it and put it back BEFORE she comes home. At least that is what I suppose might happen. I don't know from experience or anything.
I'm not congratulating JR until the house is done, well for the most part. I don't want to jinx it.
Jim- Glad the day went well. I love Looney Tunes. My favorite character is Daffy Duck. Those were great cartoons not like these third grade drawn weird things that are on now. Petra and I did a lot of talking yesterday. Actually, we talked more than in the years before.... In a nutshell, we have decided to pull the spikes, fold up the tent and move on. It will take some time until we have settled all the issues here, but the perspective of a new life will help us to bear the unbearable. It helps to have a goal, if not a destination. We don´t know yet, where we want to go to, but it will most likely be somewhere in the US or Canada. Petra has an uncle living in the Portland OR region and I still have lots of friends in the Seattle area. British Columbia or Nova Scotia could also be an option. We need to figure out, how to make a living, before we can determine where to go to. I still would like to do something connected to ships - there is an old project of mine which I can maybe revive, providing I will be able to find an investor. It is a motor yacht of a length of about 130 feet to be used as a cruise ship and it looks like this (my design):
Would be certainly a lot of fun to operate.

Been busy with kids, football and chores so haven't had much time for playin with trains, so no layout updates to speak of.
As far as weekend plans, unless something happens, we'll be goin up to railroad days at the Monticello Rail Museum tomorrow [to bad Todd's been drafted to cook] and catch some real live steam and a few train rides. Mother's talken bout stopping at the Tuscola outlet mall on the way home also. Then she has an AL Aux doings Sunday afternoon and I have chores, MRRing n football [mostly the later].

Supposed to be beautiful weather today and tomorrow, with a chance of rain Sunday. I'm good with that!
I'm going to see about cutting out of here a little early today and I'm taking the family to a bike rally / camping trip. Should be fun! It'll be mostly BMW bikes there, but there'll be some cruisers and whatnot there as well. I'll be carrying the Kawi banner with at least one other Drifter in attendence, so we may not be strong in numbers, but we're representing in high style!
I added my 2up seat last night, along with my 1969 Harley tour pack project. It's far from done, but it's servicable and at least semi decent looking (read: not completely ugly). I'll try and catch a pic of it later and throw it up for ya. It changes the look of the bike completely from what I showed the other day.
Oh well, I've gotta get busy if I'm gonna get outta here!

A regular and a donut please Zoe. 50's again but with fewer clouds this morning. The sunrise was beautiul if a bit too red (red sky at morning sailor take warning - right?).
Ulrich - the boat thing looks good and by the time you've moved and gotten it all worked out the economy should be better able to move things like that. If you do the west coast move, Taiwan is doing lots of custom work on yachts. On the east coast here there are many custom builders who could do the work. I also hav a client who does aluminum for marine use and I can put you together with him should the need arise.
Bama - I see the Housatonic with 38's and even a restored RS-3 pulling freight up and down the line behind the shop all the time,. A typical train for them is lumber cars and hoppers for the local transfer facility. Also the P&W so a weekly stone train but they are using larger power than the Housie.
Interesting evening yesterday. I think the house jinx has been transferred. As I was on my way to the house I was sitting at a traffic light when a woman who had fallen asleep crossed the road and hit me. I'm fine and the car isn't too bad but it did trigger both air bags and smashed the windscreen as well as breaking the right front suspension. At least it was an offset crash and not completely head on as it had looked to be at first. We'll wait for the adjustor to see where it goes from here but a 2000 Focus isn't worth much on the books and I have a ton of special parts in it so we might have a bit of a battle if they want to total it. Did get a few hours in on the house and should be able to get it in move in shape for us with another couple of days labor.

Gooooooooood morning. Just got off, and it was a rough night. The supervisor seemed like he was in a "yelling" mood last night.
I forgot to tell everybody this the other day. About a year ago a natural gas company was trying to get our city to meet them to talk about getting a natural gas station built in town. Nobody would show. A guy stopped at the house the other day, and he told us what they wanted to do. *PA, WV, NY have A LOT of natural gas a few miles in the ground, and people are making up to $5,000 a month for the gas company to pump it out* He said he was sent to go door to door to get about 3,000 people to sign a agreement to lease land to pump out the gas. He said they would run pipes about 9000 feet underground, and you wouldn't know they were even under you. So we asked a few more questions and signed up. Just for signing up we will get a check for $250.00. He also said that a neighborhood would split 12% of what was pumped out, and the company would get 85%. My wife did the math at 500,000 (gas volume), and we would look at a check of $500+ a month. He also said it would be for about 30 years. Now thats some GREAT FREE MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!
A lot of farms near me have 1-2 pump stations and they are the ones making $5,000+ a month free money. He said the pump would be at the old bus garage. He also said give it about a year. They said a lot of paper work is involved on the gas companys side.
I've been working on the upper part of the layout lately. Painting some mountains, etc. Who knows what today holds.
The wife bought me a blender last christmas for bushes, etc. I guess so I wouldn't mess up the new one. I just didn't wanna have to spend $7.00+ for a bag of fine. I rather make it myslef, and save.

Robby, never used either for scenery material, however, I have used them both in kitchens for years and I can attest that a food processor will render any food product to as fine a grind as you want. The longer the process time the finer the final product. And with your new "Gas" money you can afford one of these professional food processors, the R2N.....we used to call ours the R2D2....lol

Had a bumpy flight last night. Lucky I landed in a deep pool and was spotted by coconut carrying sparrow that alerted some German guy in a luxury liner who was kind enough to fish me out of the brink. Then I hitched a ride over here from some guy with a dented 2000 Ford Focus. What Zoe? No, no 'tis but a flesh wound, no really only a scratch (bleeds on table). Well all right then I could use a band aid, just a small one........ But I'm not dead yet!
And now for something completely different.......!
Chloe I think I need a very large mug of dark roast this morning and a Raspberry Danish.
The neighboring NMRA Division is having a major outing and has invited all our membership to join them. On the same day that we had planned to have a meet........ This appears to be probably the only day we could have had a good turnout..... I may contact them later this weekend and see how many openings they have. I have a Steering Committee meeting tomorrow. This may be a major item for discussion.....
I'll go sit on the front window booth. Somebody said something about a coal drag and I can hear the locos up in notch 8 even without my hearing aids.....And I'm gonna sit there until that pie that just came out of the oven.. The fresh fruit one, is cool enough that I can have the first slice for lunch!

I had double Driver's Ed today. And for those 83 minutes, we watched an Operation Lifesaver Video about crossing the tracks safely. The OLS video was shot with UP, and was kinda strange... And we also saw a slideshow from New Jersey Transit. It was mostly about safety at RR crossings, but also had short segments about safety around Light Rail and buses. I found this more interesting than the OLS video, and I especially liked when they had a photo of a train of Comet Is, since they are just amazing, and it brings back memories. And of course, it had "Don't race the train, because you will lose..." along with a photo of a car that was destroyed by a Transit train... Both the OLS video and the NJT powerpoint were mandated by NJT, even though it was basically common sense.
Enough blabbing for me. I'll be at the RC catching up.I hear that ther'll be a high-and-wide rolling through town tonight, so I'll keep an eye out for that.

Todd (and a few others), I guess I'm used to growing up in St. Louis (back before ...cough, cough... climate change...), where when it would s**w in the winter, schools would let out and we'd head for the empty mall parking lots to do 'donuts'. Few years back when I was married (okay that would make it a couple of decades ago..) we lived way further south in Caruthersville (think about as flat as a lot of Kansas), and the 's' stuff came down one winter - they did not know what to do with driving on it! Hilarious for this guy who's used to rolling hills and driving in the 's'. (For my ex-wife, on the other hand, 's' strikes terror into her heart if you mention driving in it) Of course, in St. Louis area, we had better sense than to try 'donuts' if there were another car within sight of yours.
Ulrich, I also wouldn't mind at all, having you and Petra a bit closer (like on this side of 'the pond'). That liner looks great, too! Keep those dreams going, friend! They're like the icing on the cake (or on the strudel, perhaps!)

W**k was not bad today, not bad at all. Of course, my one client who keeps rescheduling (or just plain missing his appointments) was true to form, but my follow-ups managed to show up. My co-worker found out that a client he'd talked with yesterday had been found and was in an area hospital (and mad at him, for keeping things from going the way the client wanted). My co-worker was kinda bummed yesterday when he left w**k, so he felt better some today. My only afternoon appointment rescheduled, so I got some of my paperw**k closer to caught up.
Got laundry done before 7 p.m. tonight, so tomorrow until my pager decides to go off, I'll start a bit of tracklaying. I'm trying to figure how to change a turnout at one end of the mainline (which had a crossover not far from where the tracks curve), so that the inner track goes directly to the further mainline, without any S-curve. Currently:

By way of explanation, the 'top' of the two mainline tracks branches off to an interchange, while the 'lower' track goes on the CAW trackage (off either end - the left side closes off the passing track back to the mainline).
I'll chill out here for a bit and finish up my strudel before I head for home.

I'll be busy with doctor's visits this coming week as I have three of them back to back to back. The podiatrist on Monday, the urologist on Tuesday and my primary care provider on Wednesday. The visit to the podiatrist will be to get the stitches removed from my foot, the visit to the urologist will be for a general examination of the state of my prostate and the visit to the PCP will be for a general physical., so that's three days shot as far as getting anything constructive done. You know how doctor's appointments are. Just like the military. Not for sure, but I think one of my fellow residents in the building may have moved/be moving out today. When I left to get gas, there was a white pickup parked on the grass by the back entrance with some stuff in it, but when I came back the truck was gone (and the back entrance to the building left open).

Up here it snows most every year, if I remember correctly, and you'd think these people have never seen the stuff before. I usually try to stay off the roads when the first s**w hits because most drive like idiots on dry pavement. I think your track change is for the better. Much better. (oh, and glad the are working for some peaceful days at work. Now let's try for a good weekend)
Robby- Sounds great. $5oo bucks? Boy that'd sure help out. I'm a bit suspicious though. I don't know your laws but around here, few people own the mineral rights to their property (unless family farmland forever and no one sold the rights. Not uncommon but not common either) so I don‘t see where they would be obliged to pay money to a land owner to bore under their property. Are you and the others who sign up agreeing to lease or buy some land? Pay into some Co-Op? Form a Co-Op? Did they ask for money or just offer to you? Have you seen these facts and figures and power company and it's intentions some place OTHER than what this guy gave and showed you? I guess I don't understand why they would do what they are doing. Of course if the mineral rights are owned by those landowners then I would understand but......Sounds too good to be true it probably is, is running through my head. Like I said, things may be very different out there.

Jeff- After hearing that you are cleaning off your layout, yesterday I decided to do the same. I ended up laying a piece of track and working on the supports for the grade instead, and left MORE stuff on the layout when I went to work. Is that a black wash on today's picture? How did you apply it if it is. I can't get mine to keep from pooling and yes I'm holding the thing roof up.
Joe- You would think a train going up against a car or truck would be a no brainer. Common sense. But no, no my young friend. This world is filled with mush brained people whose thoughts are being strained through rap music and energy drinks with no more Farrah Fawcett swimsuit posters to set things back to reality. Recall, if you will, the video someone posted here a little bit ago. Learn to drive, and drive well. Just remember, no matter how good a driver you are, there is ALWAYS the other guy. Ask JR.

Yes, it is a black wash, specifically 70% rubbing alcohol and pure black acrylic paint. I apply it with a hand sprayer available from any hardware store. To keep the wash from pooling I wick it away with the corner of a folded paper towel.
Aaaaaah! Sprayed on. Ok I'll try that. I thought about the wicking but figured it would remove too much and wouldn't leave the paint other than in the cracks and corners. I shall try it and see what happens.
