I've been working on an Athearn BB 50' boxcar this week and have it looking fairly presentable.

First one side:

Then the other:

The wheels were painted with Floquil rust and the trucks were painted with Floquil rail tie brown and rust.

The doors were done with Floquil weathered black, rust, rail brown and a little dirt and grime for good measure.

The sides of the car were treated to a spray wash of alcohol and black acrylic paint. They were then colored with rust, weathered black, grime, mud, dirt, roof brown and rail brown.

The ends got pretty much the same treatment as the sides and show a little hint of grime thrown up by the car ahead.

As the final touch the entire model was sprayed with Valspar Clear Flat.

Tried some different lighting today.  There is one 75 watt spotlight and one 100 watt florescent bulb in the metal reflector shields hung just above the scene.

Here we have a couple small frys passing on there way to there respective drop offs.

The plymoth holds on the main with a load of logs for the mill while the 70 drags a couple gons down the line to drop off parts.  I just weathered the orange gon yesterday.  The inside is done with sophicated finishes real rust toned down with chalk.  The sides are chalk.

an overhead shot.

and a couple at track height

Have a great holiday everyone

crandell I love your pics.  Jeff your weathering is getting better, we all just need practice + I love the new backdrop.  Much improved

 Crandell......Good looking shot.

Wolfgang......No way Icould do that.  Looks very good.

Jeff.......Anything "Southern" I like Big Smile.

Here's a boxcar I've been working on.  I gave it that "years of service look".  I was about to make it a MOW car, but thought...nah, looks good in its old reporting marks.  Its a 40' UP "Grain Boxcar".

Here's a new video from me...finally! It starts out with the generic Run 8 up the pass shot that I'm getting sick of, inspring me to finish more of the layout, then has a sunset shot cresting the grade, and finally meets another train in a remote siding at midnight! (Yes, I know it took nearly 6 hours to cover 10 miles...there was a...uh...broken air hose...yeah! Whistling)

Enjoy!

Thanks for your positive feedback, gents.

DJ, I do that all the time.  I take a few shots, fiddle, take more, and then, when I figure I have a good one, I notice something leaning or in the way, or impossible to focus...and I have to alter/displace it and start again.  Later, I'll wonder why an item is sitting somewhere else, like a tree lying on its side.

I actually have something to post for once. I managed to put 2 of my u-boats back together, and put a wash on the U33C.

I took a shot at weathering some cars with washes as well:

Also weathered one of my SD45s after putting the beacon back on:

Personally I think the front sill of the SD45 came out really well.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Thanks! You're right, there was a derailment during filming which I didn't catch. I noticed it soon after I uploaded the video and left the video up to see how long (and how many views) it would take somebody to notice! Smile,Wink, & Grin

Really nice photos so far everybody. Those videos are fun to watch.

I cleaned up the layout a bit just before some intrepid individual climbed onto the front of a locomotive with his video camera...

Great photos and some excellent videos so far..   and it's only Friday with 3 more days in the weekend....  Wow!

I got out the 100mm lens to get a few shots of the new 1914 Model T  Touring car.  The Stoddard family shows up a bit late for the afternoon concert.  Tough to always get to things on time when you have to close up the store for the day..... Yep, he is the owner and proprietor of Stoddard's Little Store just down the road a piece.

Different angle and a bit closer:

I also got a couple shots of old 135 switching the yard lead:

First with the 100mm lens:

then with the 17 - 85mm lens:

I will probably pick one of these for another use, let me know which of the switcher shots you think is the best (within the limits of WPF please.....)

The Cedar Branch & Western recently purchased a number of cars from the defunct Pine Tree Valley shortline.  Unfortunately, several cars were severely damaged in shipping.  Pictured below are two of the resurrected MOW cars.  The crane had to have new trucks and the crane tender had to have some of its wooden parts replaced or repaired.

Close up of the crane tender's custom load.  The end handrail is nothing more than a paper clip painted black with a Sharpie marker.

Underneath the crane tender is an A Line Masonite track cleaning pad.  The sides and end are painted black to reduce the "noticibility".

Overview of the end product.

Good work, as usual, this weekend.

Not much from me, but here's a couple of shots from an ops session earlier today-- #1405, one of my 3-cylinder Mountains has brought a freight up to Deer Creek from Carmichael.  2-10-2 #1400 is on the ready track waiting to hook up to the 4-8-2 as helper for the journey over the Sierra.

Hello ...

I am very impressed with all of the great photos so far.

My photos shows a GN passenger train exercising running rights on my railroad. The train is a fictional GN train I call the "plainsman". It has 7 cars following the F units. It is passing through "Prairie View".

Jeffery -- "Valspar Clear Flat" is that in a can or shot through an airbrush?

Packer -- That SD is coming along. Just don't neglect the trucks. Wink

Robbizle -- what did you use for the white logo bleeds?

I used white professional watercolor for the bleed here:

Wow.  I'm always impressed by the shots in these threads.  Even though I'm not at that stage yet, these photos give me inspiration.

Here's my contribution - I've been converting my N scale steamers (2 x Bachmann Consolidations and 2 x Kato Mikados) from coal-burning tenders to oil-burning tenders, as was ATSF practice.  Here's one of the consolidations;

Aggro....Just acrylic white.  The kind you would buy from Wal-Mart, Micheals, etc.  I used a foam brush, and some paper towels to get it to run.  Then added a light dusting of a rust color.  Kinda breaks up the bright white.
