Jeff- That's kinda what I thought. I hope all works out well. Will you be wearing a special shoe foe a while even after the healing from the surgery is complete or just be careful and hope for the best until the bone thickens?

Don't have any idea yet.

Thanks for the Anniversary well wishes guys. Though I annoy her I think she'll stay another year at least. Tonight is the icing on the cake. We have a new Texas Roadhouse in Springfield and I think, no I know, we will have a romantic supper there. Her choice so I know I'll be a hero.

Jeff- That's kinda what I thought. I hope all works out well. Will you be wearing a special shoe foe a while even after the healing from the surgery is complete or just be careful and hope for the best until the bone thickens?

Robby- See? I knew you'd get it down quick. Looks great. Say, on the first picture of the weathered version. The group of five or six streaks on the left. Do you think maybe they should be tied in juuuust a tad more at the top? I was just thinking if the seam was rusting it might give that appearance. Just a thought, but I wouldn't try to change that one also remember who's askingWhistling. Need I bring out the picture of the hopper again?Laugh

Trainman Sam- Yes! Congrats on getting the woman AND the division you wanted. Many blessed and happy years for both. I hope your marriage is as happy as mine. Um, one piece of advice though. Don't use the wife's electric food chopper to pulverize dirt for the layout. ( or at least clean it up and put it back BEFORE she gets home)Black Eye

SLLLUUUUUUURRRRRP!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhh, tastey RBF. Thanks Garry.

Well better take a shower and get ready to go. Try to beat the rush. The place is real busy all the time.

Afternoon all

I got the peeling paint on the house scraped and put down a coat of primer in those areas. Right now some T-boomers are rolling in, so much for going to the beach.

Jeff, they make printers that big so they can print floor plans for building and stuff at some larger scales. I've wokred with a few in my CAD drafting classes.

Todd, happy anniversery

Rob, looks good.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

I can break my foot and if not for the swelling never know it.

See, that's what has me curious. By grinding this bone thinner, would it not make the bone weaker and more prone to break? I would think that would be a concern, especially for a guy with your activity and not to mention the nerve damage. You wouldn't even know. Of course the alternative of rubbing through the skin isn't so fantastic either. Lesser of two evils?

Jeff- Sounds like we won't be out of the waiting room very long from Ulrich till we comeback for you. Thankfully your surgery is not as involved. However should go as well to help your quality of life. Take it easy and don't do anything that would cause the procedure to be postponed. Though I have heard of people who have the conditions, I can't imagine not having the ability to feel the pain of an injury until way too late if at all. That was the reason I kept refusing pain meds when I was having issues with my lower back. I said I want to know when I'm about to do something wrong before it gets out of hand.

Pain meds )in my experience) deaden the pain. It's still there but is only an annoyance. The nerve damage I have is so bad that only very deep pain is felt. I can break my foot and if not for the swelling never know it. I stepped on a board one time that had so nails sticking out of it. The only one I didn't see was the one I stepped on. When my foot wouldn't come back up as it should have I looked down and saw a 40D nail sticking out of the top of my shoe. Never felt a thing with the exception of little pressure. It's the same in both legs and both arms. I can feel pressure and a little heat, That's it. The docs gonna have me on anesthetic anyway. It's required. That way I won't know when they remove my wallet.

Good morning, today is Brenda and my Anniversary. You know, the perfect wife who let me tear down a wall to expand my empire shortly after getting back into MRR. A hobby she had only heard about me having until she saw the old 4 X 8 layout that was propped up in moms garage behind some pieces of paneling. Despite knowing my habit of starting a project and loosing interest, she didn't say, "you show me on this thing that you're going to stick with it then we'll talk about ripping down the wall", she actually suggested it. Ah, the perfect wife. At times like that I ask myself could there be a better woman out there? I think not. Then other times like when she says, " Say, if you're not doing anything, could you get the dog some water?" I think, "why me"

Of course because I wasn't taking pain meds other than the occasional Tylenol, he surmised it must be nothing and sent me to PT for muscle spasms. After a couple of weeks the folks at the PT contacted the Doc because they found out there where no X-rays. (apparently they're a bit touchy about dealing with someone's back on a guess) and he sent me for X-rays and said, "Hm, I guess you do have a problem" Thus endeth my career.Disapprove

Garry- That is probably a very accurate description of the Dept of the InteriorLaugh. At least for some. I'm sure there has to be a few good employees. (there. Disclaimer done)

What am I going to do Garry asked. Well it will be hard to narrow down as I skip around a lot. A whole lot. My plan is to more or less concentrate on one area or scene and complete that, (if there is such a thing) I have acquired enough stuff to keep me occupied for a bit except for the few odds and ends we see that can't live without. Since I've altered my track plan sufficiently I'll be rewiring and making one control board instead of two. Also hopefully I will begin construction of the connecting leg of the project to make it around the room. We'll see it that happens within a couple of months. I hope it does before the weather turns because the saw makes a big mess in the house.

Lee- You are so right, you never have enough room. I didn't know they made home printers that big either.

Guess I'll head down to the Empire. This has been a great weekend and is looking to be a great Labor Day for MRR.

Have a Great, safe and relaxing Labor Day!!!

I must wonder who spent all of that time compiling the write-up about the inconsistancies of the English language.

Garry, that was probably done by an English major (and this was written by a former English major - before I switched to just majoring in art)...

As for my plans, I hope to have the layout up to where I can run trains by Christmas. We'll see... Whistling  [Edit:] Figured maybe I should clear that one up - I'm re-laying most of the track to eliminate gaps, checking gauge (and maybe replacing switch or two as needed), then need to wire the feeds (currently have those terminal joiners, and will at least solder those to the track), string the main wiring bus under the layout and hook the feeds to them, make a bracket to put the power supply and powerpack on, hook things up and test it all. If I get really lucky/ambitious, I may have buildings and scenery in before Christmas (rough placement of buildings, anyway).

PC, that is one funny piece there! I sent it along to my friend Linda in Memphis (Master's in English), as well as to my friend Marj up in Joliet, IL area (who just got back home from her visit here on Sat. night). They should both appreciate it, I'm sure.

Lee, you do realize that Mr. Murphy will guarantee that the paper for your new printer will cost about as much as buying those backdrops would've run you, yes? Smile,Wink, & Grin Hope it turns out otherwise, though. I have had friends who look at the cost of printer cartridges/refills, and have decided it's cheaper to just get a new printer. Confused

Keeping Ulrich and his recovery from the surgery in mind and AngelAngel today. Since I didn't hear a lot from him about how much his wife understands English (even before PC's post), or even computers, it might take a while before we hear much on Ulrich's progress. Better leave the chapel car parked by the Diner, Garry.

Clearing up today here in Cape G-land - currently 67 F (19 C) and supposed to reach 86 F (30 C) by this afternoon. Weatherguessers are saying there's still possibility of afternoon pop-up showers today, even though most of the wettest stuff has moved east. We had a lot of fog this morning, but it's pretty much gone by now (about 9:30 a.m. CDT).

I'll grab a seat at the window booth and see how the morning local's doing out there. Everyone take care!

Blessings on your Labor Day (if you're in the US, at least),

Jim in Cape Girardeau

I picked up an HP that will print on 19” x 44” paper.  Now all I need to do is find that size paper for the machine.

I didn't know they made them that big. You should be able to print up a good one with that.

Good morning all,
I’ve decided it was cheaper to buy a new printer than to buy new backdrops for my layout, so I picked up an HP that will print on 19” x 44” paper.  Now all I need to do is find that size paper for the machine.

Rob; rule number one about layout construction is: You never have enough room for what you want.  Mrs. Rob sounds like every one of my non-MRR friends and family.  Everyone wants a carnival or an airport or something…..

Vincent a very happy belated Birthday wishes to you!

Hello .... I'll have oatmeal and OJ...

Ulrich was scheduled for surgery today, and I am hoping it went well and he will have a speedy recovery.

PC...... I must wonder who spent all of that time compiling the write-up about the inconsistancies of the English language.

Why do people drive on parkways and park on driveways?

Barry .... I liked seeing the pictures.

Jim CG ..... Sounds like you had a busy time.

Todd asked..."And why do we call the governmental agency that has to do with things outside, the Department of the Interior" ..... Answer: ...Because they all sit on their posteriors while they are inside the interiors imagining they know about the exteriors while spending excessive amounts of taxpayer money on inferior government boondoggles..

Jeff ... I'm still liking your layout with the new backdrops.

My freight yard tracks are slowly being installed. I only have been doing a small amount at a time with all the non-model railroad stuff going on. This is part of the major layout expansion I started a few months ago.

What are some of your plans in the months ahead?

BOC: That third one looks like it was not only designed by a committee but built by one as well.

That one has some interesting history to it---apparently it was a diner at one point , became offices to a motel that was 'built' beside it--we have the pix for that---the ex-motel is now also used as a residence--there is between these two places a driveshed turned studio with two wood burning kilns. And an 'antique' barn owned by someone else----We assume it is a type of communal thing going---

Good Morning

We are currently 13C and dull. A 60% chance of showers and those t'underin'boomers is back as well for all this week and next---oh well, back to 'normal'Whistling

We are spending today doing a bunch of small detail stuff for the buildings that I'll be building---AACCH such is english----Laugh

 Good morning.

It's 70 and foggy. The high will be in the low 90's and there's a chance of rain.

No layout work yesterday, maybe today. Got roped into looking up stuff on the net for my parents. I'd find what they were looking for then they'd decide that wasn't what they wanted and have me look for something else. After a few hours of their waffling back and forth over everything I told them to find it themselves. Man,I hate wafflers. Well it's 24 hours and counting down to the time I head off for the hospital for my foot surgery tomorrow. One of the nurses will be coming to my home to pick me up. After the procedure she'll bring me back home. That's good because I'm not going to be in any shape to drive.

Today's Weather for:
Sundown, LA  71446-6114      9/7/2009

Wind Chill:  70°F

Through 7 AM...patchy fog will continue to develop across the area. Visibilities will be as low as 1/2 mile in some spots.

Today  High: 92    Partly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 90s. Northeast winds around 5 mph.

Tonight  Low: 70    Partly cloudy. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Lows around 70. Southeast winds around 5 mph in the evening becoming southwest after midnight.

All is quiet except for the people who live two hice down.

I shall leave you with another thought from the mind of the comedian Gallagher, why do they call them buildings when they're done building them? And why do we call the governmental agency that has to do with things outside, the Department of the Interior.

Evenin' folks!

Just a cup of decafe for me Chloe, I'm still stuffed from dinner.

Spent about 4 1/2 hours getting caught up with a old college buddy of mine.  He was actually a half year ahead of me at Eastman.  We had most of the same classes together and hung around together when not in class.  Other than being 40 years older now....  He and his wife look and act the same as they did back then.  He is now a trainer for a major insurance company and has 3 years to retirement.  His wife is now retired and loves it!  The only active music he does now is direct a church choir program in Chicago.  He was the guy that first got me into playing classical guitar.  He was a professional guitarist before he became a voice (education) major at Eastman (fantastic Tenor voice).  I worked for him as a Bass solist in a church choir in Pittsford, NY the last 2 years of college.  Something I never knew about him was that his Grandfather was a railroad men.  The 3 of us sat and talked then got a tour of the layout, and then went out to dinner.  They are on their way driving back to Chicago.

I no sooner got home and was going to check my emails and check in here when my sister called.  She needed a shoulder to cry on as she got in an argument with a neighbor again. She also wanted my take on a camera that she saw in a catalog..... It is one of the new 12 Mp Olympus models.  Looks to be just what she is looking for.  Not an EOS DSLR but very close with a price tag she can swing without getting into her savings.

Barry nice photos.  Looks like you have some fodder for some major scratch building.

Philip, why do we drive on a parkway and park in a driveway???

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO
