Ty, your welcome for the tip on the GP18s. If I may ask, why aren't you getting both of them for $35 as opposed to one for $20?
Sawyer, I'd go with keeping the GP9 and the 35. I don't think there are very many GP30s, U23Bs, C-liners, or FMs running around anymore.
Not much new from me, heck I only have 2 days before I'm not a teen anymore.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
There are far more U Boats than GP30s, and to my knowledge there are no running FMs in the US.
One of the GP18s had already sold because Tyler is slow!

I think there's a couple rebuilt by FM (they still are in the marine business). I'm going to keep the 35, the only two I'm gonna sell right now are the H-15-44 and rsd-4/5. Everything else should fit in.
I might sell more locomotives as time goes on though. I'm not sure. I really lie the GP30s, and heck, I don't care if a 35 is more plausible, long as a 30 could possibly be operating (which it could), I'll run it.
In other news, I have enough turnouts to lay my yard plan. I however won't be able to get the yard lead completely laid as I need one more turnout to go to the loco shops, and also I need one to branch off the main to go to a couple of industries. but point is I can get my yard sorta laid out and at least operate a bit.

Ah, finally a change of pace. Trackwork! nothing is soldered or set in stone yet. And before y'all start questioning the yard design, it is the end terminal and beginning terminal of a shortline that runs to one town. Yes, there is a separate yard lead. yes, the A/D is stub-ended, but I don't need it to do anything but be stub-ended (when the train returns yard crew pulls it onto the second track and the road power goes to servcing) I will post a complete write-up of the yard operation when I have time.

Ty, I ran a check on GP18s on the infamous aution site (I was looking for a BN) and there are a bunch there that are less that $25. There was also a shell (N&W HH w/o DB) for one so you could put it on 5817's chassis. While I was there I got a good laugh out of what some people are trying to get for stuff, like a $120 non-dcc ready one.
I'm not really looking for high-hoods...anyway, 5817 has already been sold.

Vincent, assuming that I'm thinking of the same infamous auction site, there is a BN GP18
So today, I went to a LHS that I had never been to before to order my Atlas Genset. While I was there, I picked up a Walthers Platinum P&LE bay window caboose. Since it is already yellow, it will be easy to paint it as a MOW caboose (which would be yellow anyway) and throw it into service. I'd just have to patch over the P&LE marks and letter and number it. So now my rolling stock fleet is one NS boxcar, and two TSRy cabooses (one for regular use, and another for MOW use).
I also got my Blue Box SW1500 from Atlas in the mail just before I left. Since I don't have a layout down here, I haven't gotten a chance to run it yet, but I'll be home on Sunday.
Which reminds me, school starts on Wednesday! Wednesday is Sophomore/Junior Orientation (I'll be a sophomore). Then I don't have to go back till the next Tuesday! So I basically don't start for another two weeks! So I'll be spending the next week just hanging around.
It's likely that I'll be working Saturday, and possibly the Saturday after that. And I'll be down every weekend in September, so I can work if they need me to. And my aunt still owes me birthday money from June...So I might be able to start tearing down my current layout and starting construction on my new one sometime soon (September or October). It all depends on income and stuff, because I don't want to use all money on my layout (spend some on other non-train stuff, and maybe even save some).

I need to get a right hander for the engine servicing to replace that left-hander (the back-down track will get in the way of the ground throws for the yard ladder as it is now, and I'd rather just fix it by replacing the switch than getting some brass rods and extending the ground throw reach. Also, now I only need two turnouts instead of three for the servicing area, lol.).

It definately feels great to be home. And, of course, to have a layout again...
Well, for the first time in the three months since I bought it, 1300 has run under its own power! I swapped the frames on 1300 (patched ex-NJT SW1500) and the BN unit, which is now the dummy. The BN unit will be "rebuilt" as a Genset, and then will once again be swapped with 1300. 1300 will go on display (as NJT 500), and 1300 (which will become 1100), will work as a switcher. Here's the 1300 on a caboose hop (note the exposed wires below the yellow caboose and the gaping hole, this is the beginning of the destruction of the current Watchinson Line; a new, larger Watchinson Line layout will be built in its place):
The SW1500 is an Athearn Blue Box model that was custom painted (not by myself, I bought it as-is).

On Saturday I held my second operating session on the WRS. Steve ran CDWJ / WJCD (a turn between Concord, NH, and White River Jct, VT), Greg ran LE-1 (Lebanon, NH, yard job), and I ran LEWC / WCLE (the local turn between Lebanon, NH, and West Canaan, NH).
The session ran extremely well, especially since I'd never tested the schedule with more than one person. There was a pretty long wait for the crew of LEWC while LE-1 builds it's train, and CDWJ waits in Odgen Siding that whole time as well. I'll change that by having the local already built when the session starts, and it will be the first train to depart. The switches for Lebanon Cold Storage and the Lebanon Engine Terminal acted up, but other than that, there were no derailments that I was aware of.
Fix-it list for the next session includes those two switches, soldering a couple joiners in Lebanon Yard to fix some dead Class tracks, and getting Digitrax to repair my UT4 throttle.

Well, Alex, I guess you can finally have your Multilevels after waiting. Even though our 448 car order (I believe that is the total number now; it has been changed SO many times...) hasn't arrived. Of the 448 total MLs, we have probably around 300ish. They had enough to retire the Comet Is (which was the original goal, in addition to creating capacity), and now will have enough to retire all the Comet IIIs, which will NOT be rebuilt. Not that I care, my ride on a CIII was the worst train ride thus far in my life. At this rate, retty soon, they'll end up retiring all the single level cars (the Comets) (although the CIVs arent even 15 years old and the CIIM rebuilds and CVs aren't even 10, probably about 7-8).
But we still should get our Dual Modes (ALP-45DPs) first... Especially now that some Canadian mayor is complaining that they will be "unsafe in the event of fire," although they are no more dangerous than any diesel-electric or electric loco, especially since these will have fire suppression systems and the 1600 gallon fuel tank will be divided into four separate 400 gallon sections...

Wow, your Multilevels look really nice in that paint. I notice that the end doors have long doors (ours don't), so they are low level only, while the quarter-point doors (closer to middle) are high-level only (like ours). Now your conductors and TCs won't have to worry about not knowing how to operate the trapsAnd your next set will be low-level only. I wonder how they'll get a staircase at the quarter-point doors without obstructing the trucks. Hmmm, should be interesting to see.And the horn doesn't look like two stacked K5LAs... A 10 chime horn would be rediculous(ly cool)! Our K5s still sound nice because, although they are restricted (stupid NIMBYs!), they were done correctly at the factory, instead of the MMC way (scary thought). (Photo not mine)
And I didn't know that you got more CIs. And in the pictures, I noticed that they CIs and your cars (IDK what you call them) seem to be paired, or it's just a huge coincidence. Like how 707 is adjacent to 5707, 731 is adjacent to 5731, and probably so on...
I've ridden on the NJT multi-levels, and I ride the MBTA Kawaski multi-levels every week, so I've been comparing them... They are both extremely similar, but the NJT cars are longer and have one more pair of doors on each end. But on our cab cars, they have doors with full traps for low-level platforms even by the engineer, who sits on a drop seat on the trap. Also, our cars have free Wi-Fi!
