Well we went to the doctors today (after a 1 1/2 hour wait ), and he told us what probably happened. The doctor thinks my wife was pregnant about two weeks before her (monthly thing), and the clomid (pregnancy drug) started the miscarriage. Thats why her number was so high 900+ (she was about a month pregnant). If we knew that, she wouldn't have taken the drug. Well she was alittle upset, but we can move on from that.
I do start FedEx in about 5 hours. So..........its almost bed time.
Tom.........Its a dunk under layout, and the middle is mainly were I walk. Very little room inside. I want to expand to do more switching, more engines/rolling freight, etc.
Layout wise. I think that one section will have to come out. Unless I wanna have a headache, moving track around. I will probably start on it this weekend.
Well its bed time for me. I will be back in tomorrow afternoon or so.

Sheeesh!! Ulrich: Audrey and I have you on our prayer list I know summat about what stress can do with the heart--and what it also can do with one's bloodsugar! My heart condition involves a Left Bundle Branch Block which, in my case kind of drops a bit and then goes--dup dup dudup dup --sorta and then sometimes throws in a DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDup DDDDDupupupup then goes back to normal---Now mind-- When under stress then, that'll happen more frequently. With more stress my Bloodsugar wants to go from under 100 to way over 200+!! Hopefully they'll find out what is going on.
Sawyer: I've tried those dang shots but what I've usually did was tried them outdoors with the sun in such a position that I'd get a dark silhouette. And usually with an all sky background. What would happen instead would be something like the neighbours cat--"Vikky"-- ending up in the photo much like a feline Godzilla-----

I'm going on another little side trip on Saturday to get some more industrial pictures and such around the St. Thomas--Delhi area. That is, weather permitting--- And sometime that weekend I'll get to post some interesting kinds of weathering photos---I found a rather odd photo of an old CNW boxcar that was at "The Racetrack"--the large CN yard here in London ON that I took back in 1978 or so. This dang thing was all patched up-- as in holes filled/patched--but even the patches were all rusted up---I'm looking for a scanner that I can use or summat to get the pic uploaded herein

Afternoon from SunnyCal. Mid '80's today, low 80's tomorrow, with some thunderstorms predicted for the Valley. .
Wait a minute. This is California. In AUGUST!! It's supposed to be between 90-105 this time of year with absolutely unbreathable air.
Well, it's been a good day. Sold 3 of my BLI's to a buddy in Southern Cal, which means I've only got 4 more to go. I know he'll get a lot better use out of them on his DCC layout than I've gotten on my DC one. Shipped them out FedEx today, he'll hopefully have them by the weekend. The lokies were in really GOOD shape--they've been broken in but not run to death.
Now if I can get a bite on my 3 Pennsy's and my ATSF 4-8-4, I will have officially 'cleaned up' my motive power roster. Besides, I just bought that Proto 2000 Rio Grande 2-8-8-2, (DC version, of course) which has so far, changed my mind entirely about Proto and their pulling ability. Just a sweetheart, that lokie. Beautifully balanced, and no Traction Tires needed, thank God.
Robby: Congratulations on the job. And as far as your layout--you have more 'open' space on your 8x12' than I have on my 24x24, LOL! Neat photo. Nice looking layout. Do you have plans for all of that 'open' space, or what? I'd really like to have that kind of 'running' room where I could just 'let them out' and 'let them rip' for a bit. Mine is all grades and curves. And bridges, of course, LOL!
Todd: WHAT mess? Kinda/sorta looks like my locomotive servicing facility, there. Only 'level' spot on the Yuba River Sub, so of COURSE, that's where the 'stuff' ends up, LOL! I like the beer bottle, it gives that spot character. I had an empty Gordon Beirsch pilsner bottle hidden behind my coaling tower for about a week, didn't know it was there until I slammed a coal car into it. I've got to be more careful about that.
Sawyer: Sorry you got slammed about your photos on Weekend Photo FUN (!). But I admire you for taking it like you did. I know a lot of Old Farts like myself who would have pitched a major Hissy about the criticism. You proved that you're more mature than a lot of us, my friend. Cheers to you.
Well, that's about it from SunnyCal. Going to go out into the garage and add some more cars to my new Mallet, see just how MUCH that little devil can handle. And no, I don't like to load my lokies up to the point where the pilot is touching the caboose, LOL!, I just like to see what their capabilities are. I figure that if my BIG lokies can handle from 20-40 cars up my grades, then they'll be very comfortable with my usual 15-25. We'll see.

TODD and JIM: Thanks for the comments on my "artsy photos." The K-1000 is/was(?) the Volkswagen of cameras: cheap, reliable, and it was rumored you could drive a nail in with it (probably once, at least). I sold mine years ago...wish I hadn't. Then again, it'd just be sitting on the shelf next to my Nikon FM-2, collecting dust. I'm about tempted to try and sell my Nikon N-80 (film), since I dove head-first into digital photography last November with the reporter/photographer job.
JEFF: I'm liking the garage you're building. With a little modification, it might fit-into the future Loftus Distribution Company, a lumber wholesaler with a compound full of odd little buildings. Then again, it could be a good stand-alone somewhere along the industrial district trackage...if/when the layout ever gets built. Thanks for posting pics of it!
Finally finished (for now) the 41' CNW gondola. Pics coming sometime. I'm not entirely happy with the weathering job. By the time my era hit ('87-'93), the gons were rolling dumpsters, hauling used rail/track components, and used ties. I could really scuzz, grunge, and rust this thing...and be just fine with it. Don't know, like I said, I'll tack up a pic of it sooner or later for some ideas from youz guys.
I also managed to fire up the airbrush. Some of you may recall the intercontinental ballistic airbrush cap crisis of a few months prior. Well, I fired it up and successfully applied a coat of Floquil Reefer White to the CCP caboose, as a primer coat for the eventual red. The protective cap was removed prior to ignition, so as not to jeopardize any and all exsisting treaties; especially with THAT King of Toddland!
It w**ked like a charm! I only had to fiddle with it for a few seconds to get a spray I liked, the paint went on just fine...nirvana! Now I wonder why I wasted so much time with the el-cheapo Testor's units. The downside? I discovered the "perfect" seams I had puttied with Squadron Green Puty weren't so perfect afterall. I think I've still got some Testor's white putty around here...so I can fill the gaps, without having to do a lot of retouch with the paint.
The hard part now, is waiting to ensure the paint is dry/set/ready to handle.
I hate waiting...

Oh 30 day suspension for putting a car on the ground ya know. As far as starting over, I did but what I'd built was so convoluted (a spaghetti bowl) and difficult to operate that I felt I had no choice. The second round the walls set up was miles better and operated very well with the swing bridge the only thing that needed constant vigilance. It all depends on wether you can get what you want out of what you already built. I think many of us do what I did with my first "new" layout and just added on without a clear overall plan.
Robby - to tempt you further, I think the BLI refurbished website has the same loco with DCC and sound for reasonable money. Also like ost of us I think if I got every loco i fancied I'd have one freight car for each power unit. It's tough to avoid the temptation.
Jerry - hopefully you can stop doing wheel stands with your power chair long enough to serve your 90 days. And hopefully the next chair will be designed a little better. You really have had more than your share of trubs with it lately. Any chance you can just get one otf those FRED or EOT things and dithch the caboose thing altogether? No worries about road numbers or style then, no?.

I think I might have to fire the builders of the Whataburger. Kinda shoddy work so far. We'll see. I sent them packing for the day and then decided to move some RR cars. As you can see I didn't get very far.

I decided to see if I can get any better pictures. So so better using the zoom, but I think I need to paly with it some more. That's when I decided to take a quick shot of the tourist trap town as far as it is now. Still needs some more structures and alot more work putting the ground to the buildings etc.
Theeeen, I looked around and asked myself, "I wonder if anyone elses little piece of paradise looks as messy as this. Let's ask."
As you can see I kinda skip around to see where things I want go and will fit things in later. I get an idea of what I want and start it, place it and then finish later. Probably the wrong way to go about it, but that's the way I do things. That's why you here me talk about starting things but you never hear me talk of finishing You also can see the fruits of a non thought out track plan and to many flat spots for stuff to be put. It's been worse. At least the track stays clear!!!
Robby- As you can see I've thought about tearing out the track I have and working on a new one. I still should and probably will. but in the meantime I just play around. Think about it a bit and maybe you can just move it as a whole to a new location. Or not. On second thought, look at my layout again. Maybe you ought not to take any advice from me.

Building a protolanced industrial park layout
Ok I know I just got the new job, but next time I got a job I was going to expand the layout. Its currently a 8x12 HO SCALE layout. I was going to take it out on the sides and maybe make much bigger. The question is............Would you take up what you have or build around it? I was going to take the this whole section out from the coal tower, to the tree. Then I was going to expand out maybe 10ft or so. I might be able to build around it, but I would have to use "curve turn-outs".
Would that be a waste to destory whats done, or a headache to build around it? That part if left would be like a island, but the train would back into it.
I'm thinking take it all down. Then expand and rebuild it up somewhere else.
Ideas??
Lee......MB Klein has them in the Athearn *RTR* series. I don't think the owner orders from them. I have my eyes on some many cars/engines I would spend over $1000 if I could!! Thanks for the heads up thou.

Just brought the wife home from having her tooth extracted. She had a pain free experience and really likes this new Dentist. (she isnormally terrified of Dental work) Now she just needs to rest and heal up.
I'm heading over to browse through the track plans here next and see what might work for my shelf layout. Not entirely happy with what I have set up presently and there is still time to make changes.

Well I start tonight for FedEx at 2:00 am . Do some paper work, and what nots. I think they might make me a switcher. Which will be very easy, by just moving trailers around.
I also went by the LHS for another "Ann Arbor" boxcar. They seem to be real hot right now. I'm going to try to still do eBay some, and put that money towards bills/layout. I also put a down payment on the Wheeling Lake Erie engine. The owner said they don't make them anymore, and he's the only one I know that has one. He also said they don't make the Ann Arbors anymore either. Maybe I should get some for myself before they are all gone.
Well it seems like "The Diner" has had some good luck rolling in lately. Maybe it will continue. I will pop back in later.

Chris, I'm with Sawyer on your first 'artsy' photo of the Geep. For me, the measure of a photo is, how'd the final pic turn out? And yours looked good great. But you gotta consider that on my undergrad art degree, I did one independent study in photography, and did some shots of textural things and other 'artsy' stuff. Texture is just neat to me - maybe that's part of why I like weathering! (But I like your Morrison, IL photo, too)
Sue, good to see you in again, and hope your locos don't get too neglected. Maybe come winter you'll get back to the trestle and mining track (do I have that right?).
Rob, I hope your solution for feeling better is as simple as just modifying what you eat - that's less expensive than medications usually are, anyway!

I heard that last night we got three inches of rain and that about 7500 people in this part of Missouri are out of power. A few co-workers this morning said they have trees down in their yard, and a small willow tree along one exit drive from the office's parking lot got blown over, I noticed. Surprisingly, my apartment building didn't lose power, though around dinnertime last night I had some flickering once or twice when the worst of the lightning was going on. I turned off the A/C and unplugged the laptop and went on. When I was out later visiting the Diner, it was really pouring down some then. Hope everyone else faired okay on your weather.

I had set aside some of the money that I made to buy an airbrush, some paints, and two covered hoppers, but then I got the email about the $20 SW1500s from Atlas (even though they're made by Athearn). I think I'll get two, and then maybe I can still get the airbrush and paintsThen, I'll have four locomotives (5 if you count the NJT F40) to pull around the same boxcar and a caboose! Woooo!!!
Went to the boardwalk with friends on Monday. On the Enterprise, they have a train horn (pretty nicely tuned). It was rather loud when you spun right past it, but I was probably the only one who actually appreciated it. Everyone else is kinda POed about it. Oh well.

Ulrich, I was wondering what was going on with you. Hope the heart has righted itself and they find out what it was and how to correct the problem. Stress can be a very bad thing!
I got to take Blackie and Manét to the Vets this morning. I have to take one at a time as they both do not go in the carrier at the same time. Blackie gets very nervous and shakes and tries to hide his head under my arm the whole time. He will not stay still on the scales so getting his weight (19lbs.) is a lot of fun. He has an erosion on one of his molars. The vet says he will sooner or later probably break the tooth off. She says they usually heal by themselves, but if it doesn't she can cut the tooth off and put a flat crown on it. I get him home, Manét sees the carrier..... only took me 10 minutes to find him, pull him out from underneath the bed by his paws (he is NOT a happy cat), wrestle him into my arms, and get him into the carrier (he is adament that he is not going in there...), close the door on it and lug him out to the car (MEOW! MEOW! MEOW!) and drive the now crying kittie over to see the doctor. I get him in the room and he will NOT come out of the carrier! I pry him out of it about the time the vet walks in. He sees her and calms right down and starts to purr. Lays down on the scales with no problem (20lbs.) gets his check up (he is in good health), and decides to snuggle as if if to say, "that wasn't too bad Daddy..." They both got there yearly Parvo vacination as well.
I told the vet that one of my sons has a miniature Chiwawa dog that weighs in at 4.7 lbs. full grown. I said I told him he could bring the dog over to my house and that I didn't think he was going to hurt the cats...... She roared and said, "I think this one would eat him for lunch!"
[edit] Oh, Hi Ryan! The spices arrived while I was at camp. I have used the Finger Lickin' Rub on a nice little steak I had last weekend... Mmmmmmmmm Good! I also used some of the Cajon Spice mix on a filet of tilapia I pan fried a couple of days ago. Excellent sir! I am going to do the Beer Can Chicken for my son and his family a couple of weekends from now.
OK, now I'm heading downstairs to the layout to continue readying it for visitors......

Found out Monday that our contract with the EPA was extended from the Federal fiscal year end which is Sept. 30th to the end of the year. But that the contractor we work for now is not eligible to bid on the new contract that would go another 7 years. So we many be out of a job after Jan 1, 2010, who knows. We may have an opportunity to interview for our jobs again, but I hear that not 100% of current workers ever get picked up by the new contractor company. Needless to say most folks are frouning now. I'm just rolling with the punches. Whatever happens....happens! If I loose my job maybe I can spend more time in the train room....

Yesterday I was starting the post and a storm blew up then the NWS in Lincoln put out a severe Tstorm warning and I shut the computer down and waited. We didn't get much in the way of a storm, I heard it, but it went just to the south and some to the north of us then kinda fired up a bit after it passed. I only got about ½ inch of rain others in town said the got 1 and a ½. Not sure why such a big difference the towns not that big. Went about my daily routine and just this morn turned the computer back on.
Let's see, now to catch up. Only thing happened here was Brenda thought she'd over sold corn by about 15,000 bushels. Some guy called and said to sell 15,000 that day and she bought and called and sold and then found out he neglected to tell it was sold on a "later to pay" meaning the elevator has had control for a few months now and she was afraid the Manager had already sold it. Luckily he returned from a trip, he'd been gone since Thursday I think, and said no he's afraid to do that because the potential to loose money is to great. So she didn't oversell and was very relieved.
Jeff- Besides a log truck up the trunk and potential death with the oncoming cars which is enough anyway, I would be thinking "he's gonna total this car out after all I went through with the starter." Thank goodness the spacing and timing of the cross traffic gave you the opportunity to escape. Good call.
Jerry- I didn't understand, did he fix your axles and then say you need a new chair? Or did he walk away and say you need a new chair and you still have broken axles.
Robby- CONGRATULATIONS!!!! On the Fed-Ex. See, you did fine, you shouldn't have worried, the wife was right. Oh, did I just say that? Somebody pinch me. Still for your family to be.
Chris- Yeah, I'm not much into artsy stuff. Like paintings and things. I see what looks like a cat dipped in a paint bucket then got it P.O'd at the canvas. Plain simple and looks good. That's what I call art. But, if we all liked the same thing, WPF wouldn't be so Fun. Pentax K-1000!! That was my first camera! (well other than a Brownie Box (some may remember) I had handed down as a kid) Still is my only camera. (the digital is the wife's) Bought it in 1980 for my senior high class trip to Florida. I love that camera, simple nothing fancy basic camera. You do it all yourself. Now, if I could just figure out how to get a decent picture with that digital thing that does all the stuff that I don't want or know about...... I might get a decent photo posted.
Garry- Oh no! Not the Demo Derby too!!!!! Say, how'd you weather the flooding? I saw briefly the general area but couldn't make out exactly where.
Rob- Great News! At least I hope so. So, if it proves to be correct, do you have to pay yourself?
OK, Robby's got a real promising job outlook, Ulrich is close but no banana just yet (hang in there buddy), Bama's wife got a job, who else do we need to get a little of the "Diner Power" flung too? Seems to be working. Not as fast as we'd like but working.

Have been out for a few days - had to spend some days in hospital due to a collapse. My old heart just stopped beating. The tests they did in hospital did not come to a conclusion on the cause. More tests to follow.

Good morning.It's 76 and sunny. The high will be in the high 90's and it will be partly cloudy.Took my mother shopping yesterday knowing it would turn into a multi-hour affair. She went into Stage to 'just look around'. This translates to 'browse 3/4's of the store and spend several hundred dollars buying things marked 50% off'. Add on her VIP discount and her senior citizen discount and the savings really stack up. So does the amount of freight going out to the car. One good thing about it. We stopped at the Wagon Master Steak House to eat. I had a 1/2 rack of BBQ ribs and an 8 ounce sirloin with a side salad. That's pretty much my 'usual' there. I had intended to go to town to do shopping of my own but by the time I got her home and got her car unloaded it was way too hot for me to go anywhere in mine as it has no AC. Maybe today. Spent last night woking on the Ross track we use on the O gage display at the museum. We had lots of voltage drops so for now we're soldering the joints. I think we should use drops and a buss like many of us in Horribly Oversize do, but I'm having trouble convincing our resident electrical engineer so for now I'm just joining the tracks together.

We be getting sun today with a high of 25C. Right now we're sitting at 13C. And drier!! No sitting around in the humid bucket today at least.
I'm off to do more finishing up of the the report. I present tomorrow afternoon then I finish off the stuff before I go on vacation---can you tell I'm counting the time off?

Good late evening everyone. Just stopping in to say a quick howdy before heading off to dreamland (since Heather finally just "crashed") W**k has been keeping me pretty busy, so not much time to get on here. Good news is that my wife has found a permanent place of employment (since her school let her go this summer), now I've just got to find something more permanent than what I'm doing. If only I had the money, I'd open my own shop and go into business spinning wrenches like I really know how to. Planning on trying to get a "primer" (read: probably flat white or light gray) coat of paint on my GP40-2 since its still enjoying its alcohol bath and all the decals are eaten off, but the paint's staying, so on to primer, detail parts, and then back into service with it.
Robby: Congratulations are in order on the job and my family extends best wishes and heartfelt prayers to you and your wife until you know for sure about the bun in the oven.
Jeff: You are correct sir, a very close call indeed. I've had a couple of similar incidents happen with me, and likewise have had to make a break for it, but thankfully been spared damage. Oh yeah, the starter change would have gone a whole lot easier if you would have beaten it with a hammer and called it dirty names first.

Jeff, that was a close call. Can't say I've had that experience but the way some drivers tail gate I sometimes wonder if they will stop. I've had some nervous moments looking in the rearview mirror.
Not much new with me, we had a quiet long weekend as it was a year ago Sunday that my FIL passed away. My MIL wanted the family together so we all went out to brunch at a spot that was my FIL's favourite.
